I remember having to call nintendo to get the parental lock reset on a 3ds I bought years and years ago. This was before they had sites around to generate the key automatically and I straight up just told the rep that answered that I bought it off ebay and he helped me no problem.
I remember my original 3DS which I got off ebay "unused, unwanted christmas present" came with a parental lock on it. Nintendo customer support in the UK made me MAIL IT TO THEM to get it removed and factory reset the device. I didn't really care in the long run since I got a pretty much new 3DS for like half the retail price, and a few years later it was superceded by my New 3DS anyway.
@Jamesonverse Theres nothing illegal about it, just like homebrewing your console. its legal just against nintendo terms of service, nothing they can do to enforce those terms tho
in the usa people do this all the time gamestop is the worst for this tho and most of the time its just because the item is scratched or they no longer sell that item eg psp or old ds or old model xbox ect
My 2ds instantly shuts down if it gets hit (a small little impact is enough) in the area of the of the power button and it doesn’t show the message like always when you want to close it, the screen gets black and then it’s turned off but when I start it again it functions perfectly :/
A few months ago i got a fully working old 3ds with 4 ds flashcards and a mario kart 7 cartridge for only 20€! I got soooo lucky! Now it's all nice and restored and it basically looks brand new!
I used to just call the nintendo hotline to have my parental lock removed when i was younger lmfao i would just say i bought a used console and need it removed and they will take it off the device for you lmfao
There is one potential problem. You need to put the serial number that goes with the working board on it or if you or anyone else tries to do a system transfer with Nintendo it will transfer to the dead board and not the working one you have now.
xperiaviper Usually there's a sticker or marking on the plastic housing, so you'd need to take the sticker that goes with the working board and put it on the working DS
I get so nostalgic when I go on my old 3DS. Whenever I hear the 3DS Mii music, my heart just stopped. I upgraded to a new 3DS XL and it's kinda sad to see what I always played on a long time ago, is now being unused. It just traps me in an emotional roller coaster seeing all my old videos, pictures, voice recordings and other things I did. Please reply to this comment if you experience the same problems. lol this rant is just about me being a baby because I got a new ds.
iiFeloric bro I just got my first 3ds system this month but I bought an old Pokémon game that I had a while back for the regular ds. It brings back so mich nostalgia
my 3ds was secondhand from a thrift, it had a parental lock so i called the nintendo customer service line and they actually helped me with it which was very kind
I've got a Boxed Yellow 2DS. It seems no one is doing repacement shells for the 2DS. As been looking to do one of these faulty 2DS's and change it into a RED or as your's a BLUE clear shell version. Did the Blue 2DS memory card have the Poky Blue on it then.
You’re implying that newer technology is worse because they’re harder to repair and have more functions. I’m sure you’d love to be using your easy to repair blackberry and Apple II today if that’s so important to you.
Suu Kyofan Excuse me? I never said they were "worse" I was looking at it from someone who's attempting to repair old Vs new technology, not as a general use.
Retro Plus The way you phrased your sentence made it seem that way to me. I don’t care enough to argue, so if that’s wha you meant I’ll take it straight from the source and believe you.
I was able to get a (supposed) launch edition DS classic that came with all accessories and a carrying bag for just $20, was in good condition (had a few scratches) and in perfect working order
Your video has given me the confidence to re-shell an old, damaged US 2DS and give it the beautiful Crystal Yellow casing and buttons. Thank you for the video!
I wish I knew how to remove parental lock back when I got my used 3DS and New3DS. Had to contact Nintendo and they wanted a copy of my ID and it definitely took longer than what you have done here.
I remember one day two years ago my mom woke me up in the summer because she saw on Facebook someone in the neighborhood had a red crystal 2ds at a garage sale for 15 dollars. It worked perfectly and had basically no damage. The kid barely used it and it kinda left me a little sad to see his play time. I gave my old 3ds that was pretty banged up to my friend for her birthday because she really loved animal crossing and wanted something to play it with.
I remember the 2DS I had been playing with in bed and my dad took the sheets to clean them, but the 2DS got stuck in the sheets and went through the washing machine AND dryer. While I'm sorta glad it went through the dryer right after coming out I'm mostly glad it didn't melt. It didn't work at first when we found out about it, but we left it in rice to more thoroughly dry and my mom bought me an identical one. About a week later when it arrived the old one turned on (it only worked plugged in, the battery couldn't hold a charge anymore) and it lasted long enough for me to connect the new one to the internet and perform a system transfer. Kinda wish my parents sold the parts, it was mostly working aside from some blotches in the screen and the battery having literally gone through the wash. That was my second 2DS, I don't want to go into detail about what happened to the first one, I think 'dropped by your brother from the second story window' would void the warranty.
Hey my brother has a DSI which was sent through the wash and dryer The light indicator for when it is turned on/plugged in still works, but both screens are dead. Do you think there’s a way to revive it?
you'll have to clean the internals and replace any parts that's not yet been damaged. that's the only way. a washing machine spins for hundreds of km per hour, no ds isnt going to survive that
my left trigger is broken, and un responsive. i pulled apart the system and noticed that the trigger button housing is detached. will soldering it work? if so then how can i find the parts?
no he cant... $40 for the 2 ds's he used, then another 30 for the screen. Your already over the selling price of a 2ds by 20 bucks before shipping, and assuming selling on ebay any fees.
Wow! I get so scared just thinking about doing something like this! The closest I've come to doing something like this is by homebrewing my 3DS lol. XD
Hello. I finally got a used Crystal Blue 2DS for under $100. It was pretty badly scratched up on both the body and the screen as well as having an input issue with the touch screen. I was wondering if you knew where I could order a new shell and screen from?
Its actually ONE entire screen, and NOT 2. some trickery was done by Nintendo to save money, and only programmed the pixels required to give the illusion of 2 screens. This is why they most likely when with a design that wont fold.
I want to fix my 3ds but I have tried so much and I just don't know what to do with it anymore. The blue power light turns on but then it just makes a loud click and shuts off again. None of the screens turn on and I just don't know what the problem is
Do you refurbish old cameras? I have found a Sony Camera in my house and it just has a dead battery thats all. Its one of those circle ones. I didn't get to check if its fine or not.
It's not illegal. Side note: the last handheld nintendo console I had was a 2DS. Should I just shoot straight for the Switch, or is there some nice middle ground?
The new screen looked better. I didn’t see any bleed on it and the colors looked vibrant. I wonder if the replacement screen is better. I feel like the original looks washed out.
I love the 2DS, I find it super comfortable and also I got it super cheap, I got it for $80 with Mario kart pre installed and Pokemon Sun. When the regular one was $150
Can you make a tutorial on how to fix an og 3ds with a cartridge slot that doesn’t read games? I have that problem on my 3ds and most tutorials or fixes I find aren’t really too good so I’m just looking for one
I'd love to have a 2DS in that specific design at the moment. Back when it was on sale they wanted horrendous prices of over 200€ though. I'm not confident enough to try and get me a replacement shell and a cheaper model. >_
still hoping for a video on replacing broken lcd screens on the n3dsxl. im too shaky to do it myself on my broken one but id love to see how to do it at least
(psst, you cant replace only half the screen, as you mentioned, its one big screen, the sectioned off parts are just covered in take to cover from glare) its done in software to look like two
When he was going into settings the top screen showed 3DS. Instead of 2DS. Does anyone know why it says that as all the programming and internals are from a 2DS.
Great video, but I get the feeling you don't do too much of research before going into stuff. For example if you had this time, you would know that the screen on the 2ds is just one screen so there is no way to just change "one" of them since its just that, one screen and only separated in software and the frame. Keep it up though.
I liked this one needed to know if it safe to replace the screen. I thought it was a two piece screen.my 2ds had a bad flat fall. Now bottom screen a bit burnt out. Still works just the color tone off.
This is why I cry at how destructive my brother is with game systems. He had a limited edition Mario DSI that I learned from TH-cam was literally just a matter of replacing the top screen and the GBA port. Smashed it with a bat in the backyard and gave it to me to salvage the buttons and the top screen shell since it managed to stay intact and fairly undamaged.
btw there was a dent in the plastic of the touchpad wich caused it to freak out, this can be fixed by just simply holdig a lighter at the dent for a short time
1:10 Yeah, There’s a red one for Pokémon red, blue for blue and yellow for yellow. I really wanted the yellow but ended up getting the blue as the yellow was sold out years ago.
16 + 22 + whatever spent on the screen - Is it really worth it when you can buy a new one for $79.99? Definitely an interesting video though, just wondering if it would be worth the effort to fix.
the white leaking around the side of the top screen is normal. i have 2 new pikachu 2ds consoles and they both do that. also, the screenshot is from the rosalina menu, which means that the console that the sd card was in was previously hacked.
This is exactly the kind of content i wanted to see from you If you´d expand into even more models (phat DS, DSi and maybe 3ds but those are fairly complex) that would be great.
So I have an old DS not exactly sure from when but I think it has water damage but it will only blink when turning on. Of course you would have to see it to actually know what is wrong with it. I will be willing to have you buy from me if you want.
Has anyone else had any problems removing some of the motherboard screws? Most of them came out ok, but there are three that just won't budge and have now been stripped :/
I recently came close to buying a 2DS off eBay where the shell was absolutely trashed but looked like the internals should be fine, but I stopped when I discovered that I couldn't find any replacement shells on AliExpress or eBay. I found the back half but the amount they were charging for it (without the front piece, which I couldn't even find) plus what the seller was asking put it over what I was finding for a working 2DS... Didn't find any faulty ones with good shells for less than what the broken shell one was going for, which I think I could have negotiated down to $50 but walked before I got that far
Wish I was that handy, my new3ds freezes a while after being turned on. Also if you press down around the lower right corner of the touch screen, might be something pressing against something else...
Thanks to your terrible influence I've been buying broken Nintendo DSs and fixing them up. The last one had a parental lock and I just tried 1,2,3,4 ... and it worked! lol Good content, man. I've been subscribed since I saw you on Ashens a few years ago but until I lost my job because of COVID that now I have the time to do it. My best purchase so far has been a DSL for $5 with a broken hinge and Scribblenauts Unlimited w/box. Just down the road on CL. These things are so much fun to work on. Now I'm jailbreaking them and doing all sorts of cool stuff! Thanks again for all your knowledge on this stuff.
not sure if anyone mentioned before. but the 2ds only has 1 screen, they simply put the metal shroud over it so it looks like 2 screens. i suppose its cheaper to manufacturer one large screen than 2 separate smaller ones.
Its actually cheaper and more resourceful to produce two smaller screens since they don't have to buy all of the liquid crystal for the LCD displays, the most expensive part believe it or not is just the hinge, they cost $50 per hinge to produce, install, and engineer.
Awesome channel man, you just earned yourself a new subscriber. But, that transparent 2DS is AWESOME. I have to get me one of those. Great job, brotha! #LetsRefurb
I wish I had your type of skills cause I'm having 3DS XL issues it would turn on when I press the power button and I see the blue light turn on but no wi-fi light and then black screen and then it just turns off that is the second 3DS I had that broke on me
This is just from experience, but have you tried making sure all ribbon cables are seated properly? Sometimes the cables can loosen up from repeated opening and closing. If one of the screens aren't connected properly, you can get that symptom.
That is so cool! I wish I knew how to fix things like you! Then I could replace the middle part of my 3Ds that holds both screens togethor, which is severly damaged and cracked. I have other 3Ds's now but I miss that old 3Ds, it was my very first one years ago :( It also has a issue with the left key not working...
The top screen on my New 3DS XL is cracked, it has this black fluid looking area (not actually fluid) around the entire screen. This reminded me of it.
i have a 2ds that the top screen is stretched out because i tried doing cfw a long time ago when it was still kinda complicated to do everything else works its just that

That liquid damaged 2ds board may still be fixable. Soak it in isopropyl, get a toothbrush, and scrub that corrosion off. Could bring it back to life.
It looks to be toast because it hadn't been cleaned and dried right after the liquid ingress so it's probably corroded underneath one or more chips .
I thought the same. Well worth a try.
Thanks Mr. Skeltal, very cool!
the chips look corraded, to fix that board would cost as much as 2 3ds.

They probably figured that if you were old enough to call them you were old enough to not need parental control.

There is one potential problem. You need to put the serial number that goes with the working board on it or if you or anyone else tries to do a system transfer with Nintendo it will transfer to the dead board and not the working one you have now.
But it seems to be a simple solution at least

Great video, but I get the feeling you don't do too much of research before going into stuff. For example if you had this time, you would know that the screen on the 2ds is just one screen so there is no way to just change "one" of them since its just that, one screen and only separated in software and the frame.
Keep it up though.
I did mention that... I was referring to the listing saying "only the top screen is broken". Thanks for the feedback.
The Retro Future You mentioned you didn't know how you'd only replace the top screen, but the whole thing is one screen.
im tryn to find a shell replacement but only for the 2ds the web is empty the only way its buy a broken 2ds or u can say me some website??
I liked this one needed to know if it safe to replace the screen. I thought it was a two piece screen.my 2ds had a bad flat fall. Now bottom screen a bit burnt out. Still works just the color tone off.
I might not have seen it yet if you have... buuuut, have you done any top screen repair/replacement on the 3DS?
5:24 When not in use store your Nintendo 2DS outdoors on a picnic table in the rain.
That Shiny Kitty Kat DSI doesn’t have a GBA port
Fallout Boi 2 maybe he or she meant DS lite. But idk
I just found one of the transparent blue 2ds in a bin at work just waiting on a charger to see if anything needs sorting
btw there was a dent in the plastic of the touchpad wich caused it to freak out, this can be fixed by just simply holdig a lighter at the dent for a short time
Omg can u help me fix my poor 3ds blue one, i turn it on and it makes a popping noise then turns off... HELP
Screens are too expensive second hand, not worth it.
Issues with batteries, controls etc are usually fine.
You should make a thing where people could send you their broken stuff and you could fix it
9:22
how did you flip the stylus like that?
I have a question i have new 3ds xl i want to have a body like the 2ds you have that you can look trough and see the internals a bit
the white leaking around the side of the top screen is normal. i have 2 new pikachu 2ds consoles and they both do that.
also, the screenshot is from the rosalina menu, which means that the console that the sd card was in was previously hacked.
how do you switch out the joysticks? i tried on my 2ds but it wouldn't work. pls explain
This is exactly the kind of content i wanted to see from you
If you´d expand into even more models (phat DS, DSi and maybe 3ds but those are fairly complex) that would be great.
Is the 2ds better or worse than the original 3ds?
Worse
The same but no 3d
I don't think it is illegal to get rid of the parental lock. I had to do that before. If it is were in trouble lol
I think the 2ds looks so nice I love the design
patrick king It’s nice to have. My only complaint with it is the type On/Off button they choose for it.
The joystick problem is the same one I'm having with multiple game cube controllers. Does anyone have any tips for fixing it?
Wish I was that handy, my new3ds freezes a while after being turned on. Also if you press down around the lower right corner of the touch screen, might be something pressing against something else...
Oh dear! That doesnt sound good!
Thanks to your terrible influence I've been buying broken Nintendo DSs and fixing them up. The last one had a parental lock and I just tried 1,2,3,4 ... and it worked! lol
Good content, man.
Hi I was wondering how i would go about fixing the shoulder buttons on a ds lite
That’s blue 2DS Button Color scheme look like Japanese Super Famicom
not sure if anyone mentioned before. but the 2ds only has 1 screen, they simply put the metal shroud over it so it looks like 2 screens. i suppose its cheaper to manufacturer one large screen than 2 separate smaller ones.
#LetsRefurb
Thank you very much!
9:21..... just wow
9:20 how he do that?
That is so cool! I wish I knew how to fix things like you! Then I could replace the middle part of my 3Ds that holds both screens togethor, which is severly damaged and cracked. I have other 3Ds's now but I miss that old 3Ds, it was my very first one years ago :( It also has a issue with the left key not working...
⚠️Do you ever go back to the E-Bayer to show them their damaged Console in it's fixed state?
Would _you_ do that if you were in his situation?
@@Connie_TinuityError i would
Interesting, I'm really liking how this channel is moving forward, keep it up Elliot lad.
Thank you!
The top screen on my New 3DS XL is cracked, it has this black fluid looking area (not actually fluid) around the entire screen. This reminded me of it.
i have a 2ds that the top screen is stretched out because i tried doing cfw a long time ago when it was still kinda complicated to do everything else works its just that
9:22 that stylus twirl was sick
