      If you're talking about his foot positioning in the catch, that's because he has extraordinary hip flexibility. He allows his hips to compensate for ankle flexibility. Now, implying that any average lifter who moves their feet super wide in the catch is technically correct just because Shen Lijun does it; watch Zack Telander's "You are not..." videos

    If Irawan can prove himself in the next few months, that could shake things in favor of Tian. His best total at 317 is only a kilo off of Li Fabin's best.
    Adkhamjon Ergashev and Pak Jong Ju are both young and in the hunt too. Chen will be coming back for redemption after Rio but he can't afford any misses.
    World Records aside, I have to say it's looking like the Continental Championships are set to be far more exciting than the Olympics.

    • @durrantmiller8810
      @durrantmiller8810 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pak isn't too much of a threat because while his C&J is huge his snatch falls way behind and Ergashev is very strong he is still young and I doubt he will be at chens level by this summer

    • @TheSkatingreptile
      @TheSkatingreptile 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@durrantmiller8810 They're definitely not who I'd project to win but my main point on Chen is he isn't a runaway for the Gold. He is the favorite but a few missed lifts and PRK/UZB can find themselves in good positions to strike.
      Like you said, Pak's issue is the snatch. He seems capable of doing more but he's got consistency issues. Ergashev I can see improving more since his total at Worlds was already a 12kg PR. Both athletes have time to grow so if it isn't this Olympics, they're not a bad bet for 2024.

    Hypothetically, how would Tian do as an 81?
    I thought he would be a cnj monster, but his best is about 220. At 81, he’d go above 210, which is phenomenal.
    His snatch is what is even more impressive. He’s hit 178 as and 85. That would be a couple kg under 175, which would always get a gold.
    172-3/215= 385+ which as a great total.

      Currently they both have very little chance. In the second qualifying period Rostami received zero Robi points and Sohrab around 100 while their Olympic competitors were hitting 900+. Sohrab has more of a chance, but neither have a great one. I certainly don't underestimate Rostami as a weightlifter, he is one of my favourites, but he doesn't stand much of a chance to qualify.

    I own a gym and I don't allow dropping an empty barbell. I would like to know, if the $1000 ELEIKO barbell is made for this or if these guys just do it because they don't pay for the equipment?

    • @shogun1650
      @shogun1650 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They do it _because_ they are $1000 ELEIKO barbells. Those things are meant to take a beating, and it can take any sort of abuse on the sleeves. Dropping on the shaft like dropping onto safety bars is a bit more dangerous for the bar. But anything on the sleeves is fine. It's not a piece of glass. Its a 45lb piece of metal.
