No, there's no need to upgrade. Only upgrade when the PC dies. 1440p and 4k gaming is the limit. Anything over 4k gaming you have no choice but to upscale it because no card can render 8k. Upscaling is only option if you wanna game in 8k. My favorite apps combined. (Integer Scaler to upscale games to 4k) and (Lossless Scaling) to add sharpness on the games. 1440p and 4k is every card limit.

I'm looking forward to you updating your earlier series on small -medium -big systems using both Intel & AMD processors. It was great and another refreshment would be GREAT .... especially for those of us that have trouble keeping up with all the changes and trying to match components (ie: processors to motherboards) to their respective systems.

Probably take a look at maxing out the RAM(or 16GB minimum), and swap out a hdd for an ssd. Even a low end sata ssd for booting is way better. And sata drives are getting affordable.
    Now to the expensive parts
    a gpu
    the cpu/mobo.

I have a Desktop PC from 2011, it's currently running 8.1 which is near the end of support as I'm typing this. It runs Windows 10 just as fast as a new computer, the pre release of 11 runs great and fast, I haven't tried 11 22H2 yet but I have on a VM and it runs. The motherboard can support a directx 12 card if 11 really needs directx 12. Gaming works but it's always on the lowest setting. I am truly amazed how long this 600 dollar computer has lasted in the family, it was my mom's pc from 2011 to 2018 then I got it in 2019 and have been using it daily since. I do think about upgrading/replacing cause of the lack luster gaming performance but I don't know if it's worth it, it seems like the PC won't die lol.

Like many others Brain, I am all for updating my current desktop if need be but my current Ivy Bridge build operates really well for me as is. I don't game or do any fancy graphics stuff and am running Windows 11 Pro 22H2. My concern would be in buying a replacement machine is again cost but I deal with a company in Melbourne Australia that build basic machines, and they give you options for changing the components to what you want. The trouble is cost and it is eye-watering when I see prices for GPUs for example but again they also allow you to add such older components like my Asus Xonar sound card (which is so hard to find now) and Asus GTX 650 Ti (my current GPU) to the machine without losing the warranty. So that would be the way to go as I don't have the dexterity to build again myself - plus the cost of course. But a good video mate and such great advice which sadly some will not follow. The other concern in building a new machine would also be if Microsoft added more restrictions on the hardware side in running any new and upcoming OS's.

Here's something you might know, the power supply rails are dependent on the internal transformer It's either a single output winding running all the rails , or it's independent windings running each rails with it;s own capacitor regulation The latter one is the one you one because their is isolation between the rails and better regulation/ripple This is something a lot of those high computer channels will not tell you,

I just did a little upgrade that cost me under $30 after selling off the "old" stuff; it included a CPU and RAM upgrade. Changed from Xeon E5-2678v3 to E5-2696v3. The later's price dropped to $51 and I went for it (18C/36T, 3.8Ghz max turbo, DDR3 or DDR4 compatible). Same for the RAM...went from 4x8GB DDR3 1833 to 4x8GB DDR4 3000. Performance improved noticeably, especially on heavy workloads. This CPU was released in SEPT 2014. Nevertheless, I see absolutely no need to upgrade anytime soon.

True Story: This week, I built a pc out of old parts that I had lying around for an older couple that I know, for free. I took payment in coffee and conversation. I was originally going to fix their pc, it turned out that pc was a low-end P4. An old and SLOW pc. (I didn't charge them anything because their dog just had some big vet bills).
I was surprised what 10+yr old parts could do for someone who doesn't play games, the pc specs were an i5-2500s cpu that I put in an IBM pc shell, it originally had a Pentium cpu.
For a video card, I put in a perfectly working gtx 1050ti, it's missing a front bracket & was previously modified for size, and I put in a 256gb ssd for the boot drive. I need to upgrade the ram, it's only got 2x2gb, I told them to only use 2 Chrome tabs at the same time until I upgrade the ram, lol! (I'll do that this week). These items were just gathering dust on one of my storage shelves.
The i5 pc is able to surf the internet and they can watch youtube, check e-mail & social media. For them, the old i5 pc that I have NO use for for IS AMAZING, it's MUCH faster and doesn't crash like their old p4 did.
As with many things, it's perspective. It gave me some, maybe I can keep using my 5600x and 3090 for a while longer even thought those parts aren't the fastest anymore. I don't have to spend a pile of money on the latest and greatest. (I still might though! 😉)

I've always dreamed of having a custom PC, but I still cannot afford one, so I'm managing with my current PC, which is a 2011 HP Z210 Workstation. It's had minor issues here and there, but I will be upgrading the RAM, PSU and graphics card in future. Any recommendations as to what the best power supply for one of those workstations is? I'm looking at ones with about 750 watts.

11/2022 and I am running a 4k/60Hz screen: still running a Devil's Canyon and it does all I need. Yeah, the push to buy new stuff is huge. Just ignore it until you see problems in what you are actually doing. I have had 12th gen Intel and nice Ryzens go in and out of my shop and I cannot be bothered. And yes, I can afford them but why do it ? Boot time?
    My specs?
i7-4790K @ 4.6, 32 gigs (overkill) of 1600 9-9-9-24 ddr3 on a lovely Hero 7, strix 1080ti , and a bottlenecked nvme samsung. And yes, this 2014 rig pegs my favourite game (World of Tanks) at max settings 4k/60Hz all day every day.

I have an HP laptop that's almost a decade old now, and it's so dreadfully slow by comparison to what I'm used to on my new gaming rig... can't really afford to buy a new laptop, so I'm thinking about upgrading the RAM and switching to an SSD. Also, since it runs on Windows 8 (not 8.1, just 8) and has major OS breakage, I'm just gonna switch over to ZorinOS, as I've been told that it can revitalize old PCs to a certain extent.
