Works as of 10/12/2021, one tip, if you have more than one "soul of" item in the stack, drop all but one, that way it consumes only that one when doing the glitch and you can do it more times.

Little advice, if you do this glitch too many times you will partially lock the second item slot with the estus flask and black separation crystal. To get around this, place the soul above the estus flask by changing the order and putting it at the top posistion, then place another consumable item above the soul.
I’ve not had this happen in my years of using it. But thanks for the tip, hopefully if it happens to anyone in the comments they will get what they need from your comment.

If you've never played the game before I'd really recommend playing it through normally. It's an amazing experience. Save this for messing around after.

For anyone wondering, on PC, when you get to the “use item screen” you only scroll down 4 times, use your mouse to hover quit game, then go back to the controller to physically click “quit game” then it will give you the option to use instead of drop item.

OK what he didn't explain very well in the video is that you must press X and R1 from the system menu whilst hovering over brightness, do NOT go onto the brightness menu and then press X and R1 at the same time. Worked pretty quickly once i figured that out. Thanks for the Guide.

Can confirm that it still works as of 4/29/23. Like someone else has mentioned, it seems that clicking X before R1 helps. Took a little while to get it right, but worked once I got the menu to glitch. To be clear, don't select the brightness and then try the X + R1. Do the X + R1 to get into the glitched menu. I've platinumed the game, but this is a fun way to get OP early for the heck of it.

1/8 2023 IT WORKED!!! But make sure ur not ON the brightness tab and click R1 + X while the brightness option is HIGHLIGHTED. That's where I was messing up. But yh man thank u SOOO much I was stuck on 4 kings for weeks bro

*Pro tip:* When on the brightness part of the glitch, try pressing X (or A) slightly before pressing R1 or RB but it's gotta be a very minicule margin of time. Like milliseconds almost. Like if this helped. Happy Souls Grinding everyone. 💜

On the Switch, it runs at 30 FPS so the miniscule margin of time is about 33 milliseconds.
So, i do it step after step, just like explained. Put the Soulcontainer second place, go to Arrow press drop 999 and cancel. Press LB and directly after press A and RB at the same time. glitched brightness menu opens, i press ok. After that i press on Quit Game and now its completly different for me. It does not say consume Item (quantity), it says Drop Item (quantity). So i´ll press 999 anyway. So it throws me out of game and when I reload back in, i got no Souls and the Soulcontainer is gone. But i do still have got my Arrows. What am i doing wrong??
@@k4rlkl13r3 that’s pretty strange. it should work no problem. make sure that you are following the steps accurately. i would just say keep trying until you get it down.
@@EricRosado I watched the Video like 10+ times and it just keeps making the same shit :/ I used 8 Soulcontainers for this and they keep disappearing instead of beeing used. It didnt say USE ITEM once. The game just drops my one Container 999 times and then sends me to main menu which is strange because it doesn not send the guy to main menu in the Video. If i press cancel on the Quantity select nothing happens and i dont get send thrown out of game
Verified still working on Nintendo Switch. You may want to press B slightly earlier than R to trigger the glitch more easily. Thanks for sharing bro.
Still works on ps4 as of 11-18-22. For pressing X and R1 at the same time, press R1 right after pressing X. It requires a slight delay for it to work properly.

I've seen a lot of glitch or exploit tutorials where it's not well explained and it's kinda just "here do this, like I do it" -sigh-

I know they say X+R1 at the exact same time when selecting Brightness, but I have found best results with hitting X just slightly before R1 (or the equivilants per console)

Still works as of 12/25/22. Great explanation. Once you get the timing of the x+R1 it’s pretty easy. I feel like I have the best result when I press x just slightly before R1. Running around with 99 humanity and 8+ million souls at the moment

Can some tell me why when I get to the bugged out brightness menu on press okay instead of the quit game menu I get the use drop and rearrange order menu has it been patched or am I doing something wrong?

@@jingo6119 make sure the text is overlapped at the top left under brightness like it shows at 1:30, if it’s not it did not work
I can attest, as of June 5th, 2021, this dupe glitch works. Make sure to drop one soul item on the ground so you can pick it up again and do the glitch once more, as it uses all the soul items you just duped at once. Meaning, youve got to find more soul items to dupe

100% doesn't work on xbox 360...
When you do the brightness screen glitch overlap and press OK it doesn't take you back to the quit game screen, it just takes you back to your inventory and asks you if you want to use the soul....I've tried countless times and got angry...
It doesn't work on xbox 360 original copy..end of story.

Just got it to work. It’s actually not x and r1 at the same time. I kept doing and nothing. I pressed x and then immediately r1 and it worked.
September 2022 checking in... this has NOT been patched on PS4. The R1-X timing is just really tight. It took me a few tries but I got it: 398000 souls while at level nine. Since then, I've done this a few more times and am roughly level 120 a little after the double gargoyle fight.
A big mistake that I was making was that I was actually going into the brightness menu and then doing R1-X. You need to be on the main systems menu, and then do R1-X while the Brightness option is highlighted.

You put the normal soul in your 2nd from top inventory slot
You scroll across to arrows, select drop 999 and cancel
LB to brightness and perform the screen overlap no problem
But, when you press OK on the glitched brightness screen it just takes you back to your inventory and asks you if you want to use the soul, it doesn't take you to the quit game screen....
So if you playing on xbox 360 tough luck, this ain't guna work trust me...
Just did it and it still works. It was a little tricky at first but I figured it out that you press X just a fraction of a second before you press R1.

I got it to work the first time and now its not working at all for me
Couldn't get it to work initially via the video, watched the pinned stream link and got it working almost instantly. The video makes it look like you need to press X+R1 while in the brightness menu, which isn't right, you need to press X+ R1 to GET INTO the brightness menu, the stream makes this much clearer. Thank you for sharing the glitch.

Have been trying for over 20 minutes to get the glitched menu, playing on PC with an xbox 360 controller. Have tried delaying the A and RB button presses by half a second like mentioned in the comments but cannot get it to bug out. Anybody else able to do this on PC with a 360 controller?
Edit: Well I watched another video of someone doing it in real time and now I understand I was doing it wrong of course lol. I was actually pulling up the brightness menu and THEN trying to press A+RB, now I understand you just highlight brightness (don't actually select it) and press A then RB like 0.2 secs after. do you know how to fix. I do everthing right get the glitched out menu but when i scroll down to quit game and do it, it actually quits the game and uses the consumable im trying to duplicate.

@Gaming Exploits I was trying to do this glitch on PC on DS Remastered, and I noticed that when I go to the last part where I need to scroll down to the quit option I actually have another menu option in game "PC Settings". As such with the menu layering; selecting quit game takes you to the drop item menu in the background. I tried to select the PC settings option instead, but when I do I end up not being able to change the number of items to use. Any Ideas?

Ah, the hovering the mouse tip helped a lot :)
To further explain what he means: Do everything as shown in the video, but instead of pressing down to get to "quit game" hover your mouse over it and then press A
Still works as of January 2023.
Make sure you press B then R with a VERY slight delay in between. If you're moving tabs then you're doing it in the wrong order. If it doesn't work just go back to the settings tab and try again.

Worked 3/11/24, the timing is tricky, there's a very specific little gap between Select and R1/RB to nail. Make sure you do the 999-cancel bit every time, and watch for the overlapped words. You need to only have one of the soul available in the SECOND slot (other guides have it in the first spot). Just did it twice, hope this helps somebody else
Edit: you can store your excess soul items in the Bottomless Box and take them out one at a time for the glitch, instead of dropping them and risking respawn.

@@chrissgro5334 you don't NEED 999 arrows but the number of arrows you have dictates how many of the soul items you will use. It can be Bolts as well, basically any merchant sells them, it's like 5-8k souls to get to 999 regular arrows or like 2.5k for wooden arrows

As of July/14/2013 it still works. I found pressing X a split second before r1 helps with causing the glitch screen to appear.

To anyone still searching, this DOES still work, it seems to be a bit harder due to new gen consoles having lower latency on button inputs. But yes this does still work in 2024. They will probably never patch this lol
Just did it on Xbox one remastered thanks! Really only doing this to level dexterity to 24 cuz I was gonna do a slow farm anyways so this helps, I recommend anyone on a first play through to just level a few things and one major thing to help with this hard game haha!
Ahhh PRAISE THE SUN! I'm going through my 1st play through of DS1, I've already beaten bloodborne, dark souls 3, and sekiro (I do not intend to play dark souls 2) and I was looking to have some fun. I did the early pinwheel kill to the bone Smith to get +5 fire great scythe. Then I used your video to help me get a ton of souls to play through. Having fun, thank you.

@Reiter Tonitron I gave it a try on your recommendation, it is somehow the easiest and the bug list, but my biggest gripe is that I am currently sitting through the end credits that I can NOT skip. I'm more frustrated than I was fighting the fume knight

@@zachturner1242 hey! PS5, just press X slightly faster than R1. got it on the 3rd or 4th try. Also a little advice, if you have like 6 souls. Drop 5, do the glitch and etc with the rest.
When I do it it quits to the main menu and when I continoue my soul of a lost undead dissapears but I don't get any souls pls help

It does work just keep trying. Also side note, it will consume the soul. Not just dupe it and keep in in the inventory. So keep em in your box till you wanna use it. Cause it'll probably consume them all in one go

Thank you, I gave up hope that it had been patched but just did it as 3/20/23 so
PS4 can still do it but you have to hit the 'x' button less than 1/10 of a second before 'R1' to get the glitched brightness tab
Can confirm works on xbox series x as of november 11th, 2023. It took a few tries but dont give up boys mess with the timing of pressing A and rb

@@bizarreentertainment7308 It’s exactly the same as in the video, only you obviously translate the controls for the Xbox controller. Example: X (on PS) = A (on xbone). R1 (on PS) = RB (on xbone).
The only tricky part is glitching the menu. It can seem impossible at first, but don’t get discouraged. With enough practice, it becomes much easier. I usually get it on my first or second try, nowadays. And the whole process becomes a lot quicker and easier the more you perfect it.

still works in April 2023, the only problem is that it's incredibly frustrating to get the right timing R1+X
The R1 button is slightly more sensitive then the X button so you have to press X slightly before pressing R1

31/ 7/2023 i did this and it still works, tip : for the last step use mouse to navigate to quit game and the press x on controller

i keep trying this over and over and i cant get the glitched brightness menu to appear, it just switches to the other menu
Try pressing the X and R1 buttons with a half second in between. Lots of people have said it’s easier delaying the button presses.
@@GamingExploits It doesn't work when he hits ok in the bugged menu it doesn't open the system menu it just goes to the inventory menu
Did this today! It’s a bit annoying with r1 and x but you get it after while lol. Don’t like doing this but I want to finish this game ASAP to play other games. Also used the fallout 4 glitches so wanted to say thank you for updating for games that game out years ago. It helps knowing what still working if we want to use them.

This is awesome, just did this on the PS4 (date: 28th Jan 24). It took me a few attempts!!! But I eventually worked out why it wasn't working.
For anyone struggling at the last part getting the menu to overlap. I found that on my controller that I needed to push X milliseconds before R1, rather than both at the exact same time. I have a hunch that this might be what the problem is for some people.

I tried it and everything appeared the same, but when I went to 999 and ok it made me leave the game and consumed my soul item without giving any souls.
It works on Nintendo switch update 1.03 when you have to press x and R1 at the same time, I noticed that it works better if you press x and 1/8 second after on R1

Edit: You have to unequip the arrows 1st for the drop option to be enabled.

02/21/2024...still works. I got stuck on the last step. I kept returning to the home screen when selecting the quit option instead of getting souls. As someone else on this thread mentioned, if you are playing on PC, instead of using your controller D-Pad to move down to the quit option, hover your mouse over it, and then select quit using your controller. Note: Elden Ring DLC trailer coming out today!!!

Thanks! I noticed you have to make sure "Use" is highlighted in the background at the same time "Quit Game" is highlighted in the foreground for the glitch to work.

A little advice! You have to hit x and r1 as soon as you get to the brightness menu otherwise it won’t work

@@unohana_ I had to try it for a whlle as well, maybe 20-ish times, so just keep trying. I did it twice so it definitely works. Also, are you sure you are using L1 to get back to the settings and then going down with the D-Pad opposed to up? I don't know if it makes a difference but that's at least what the video says to do so it might.

Works, June 28 2024. Any arrows xbox, and may vary depending on what kind of soul you put in second slot. Either way you get an insane amount.
On PC you need to hover over "Quit" with your mouse, then press X. Now you can "use" the items, instead of "drop". ;)

tried it 3 times now, got the glitched brightness scren, everything worked until i have to go to "quit" and select the x souls, while pressing "ok" i just quit out and the soul is lost.... (edit: instead of using the souls, i just quit out of the game losing the soul)

I play on the Prepare To Die edition, and whenever i press "Ok" on the Brightness tab, the system options tab doesn't show. Any alternate methods?
It needs to be the remastered edition unfortunately. But I’ll see if I can get something put together for the older version too

I'm doing this cause I a glitch made me lose my entire game I spent 40 hours on and I just don't want to grind shit again. For me I do everything the same but instead of saying use item when I select quit out it says drop item and when I select that I quit out the game and I lose the soul I was gonna dup. Any help?
Edit: It might be that I'm on PC and theres the extra PC settings tab before the quit game tab. Cause when I scroll all the way down to the quit game tab it says drop item but when I scroll down to the PC tab it says use item but it doesn't go all the way to 222. Also I'm only using 222 arrows because that's all I could afford.
