GUYS it didnt work for me. It quits the game. BUT. I made it work! Put the soul in the first place in the inventory, then do the same and steps until in brightness menu, stay there. then with your controller, STILL IN BRIGHTNESS MENU , go down (to "ok" but dont click it) then, Best with your mouse click on the soul to select it, (from the background menu). and then with your controller, still being in brightness menu, swipe right to defaults (next to ok) in brightness menu and click it. The menu with 000 amount will appear, change to 999 and ok.

I dont get the Brighness menu to glitch out, I tried it hundrets of times, but it never works...
I was having some trouble until I realized you don't actually enter the brightness menu itself. You do the RB+A combo from the select screen. Thanks for the help!

Just piggybacking on the pinned comment to say:
If you get "Reset Item Order" at the Quit input, you have to first use an item from your inventory, (humanity, moss, etc) then it works fine if you try again.
It seems to use the last interaction you did.

[Issue: On "Reset Item Order" menu appearing (Step #7)]
- GE says to hover to quit game
- DO NOT hover in the middle zone of screen while doing this, instead go around to hover to the quit game button.
(Note that BOTH menu windows are actually opened at the SAME time, so hovering in the middle screen would change the selection for both menus thus resulting to this issue
- Then press(in controller) confirm.
- The "Use Item" menu should popup now, then proceed as intended.
[REMINDER]: When you have more copies of souls (eg. souls of undead x3), drop all quantity but one, so that you can repeat this multiple times by picking it up after duping (and using one copy)
[Others Issue: Cannot drop arrows] => UNEQUIP arrows from inventory
Hey, just a heads up not mentioned in the video. The mouse cursor has to be placed DIRECTLY over the G in "Quit (G)ame" for the last step. Failure to do so will result in an invalid prompt being shown (like Drop Item, or Change order... very frustrating after the 100th time doing this.) and could quite literally make you lose very valuable items. Just a quick disclaimer because no other video says this. Happy hunting homies.

every time I used the glitch everything goes to plan except It actually quits the game and takes me to the main menu screen and deletes the soul I used...
Hi, I was actually able to do this without a controller. What I did was I went into control settings and what would be r1 and r2 for a controller, on pc, it says "END" and "HOME" what I did was switch those keys to m and n and went by that like you would with r1. I just used arrow keys, the select key which is E and M and N, and followed along from there.

hello everyone. i tried doing the glitch but the menu doesn’t pop up and i even timed it perfectly. no matter ehat, it didn’t pop up. i put the arrows in 2nd slot and a proud knight soul in 2nd of other category. but i simply couldn’t get it done. am i doing something wrong? (i have 985 arrows instead of 999, does that have to do anything?)

FINALLY, I've been trying to get this to work forever. Every other video didn't work for some reason, but actually clicking OK did it without quitting out.
Something about it kept having me drop the souls instead of using them, be ware of that because if that happens it also had me exit game so my souls that were dropped were lost forever.
It must say USE souls at that final step, not drop. Not sure what part I screwed up to get that, but after trying over and over I did get the Use souls prompt

The glitch works fine until i get to the quit menu im able to allocate 999 but when i click ok it sends me back to the main menu and when i load back in the soul is used but no souls are gained

I had this issue and found that the fix was switching to fullscreen mode rather than fullscreen windowed

Just to confirm that I got this glitch to work. I am using a Linux PC, running the game from my Steam library, using the Proton compatibility layer. Not a usual use case, so worth posting that it works I think.
There are a couple of points to refine the instructions:
1) Triggering the overlay menu glitch: I found that the controller has to be connected directly to the game, not through the Steam Input. I was using a Stadia controller through Steam Input (another weird use case 🙂) and I tried many, many times to get A + RB timing right, and always failed. So, Plugged a Xbox One controller in, not using Steam Input, and got the glitched menu more or less straight away. I found a sort of squeeze between thumb and first finger worked most consistently for me.
2) On the final step, where the cursor is placed is really important. I found that hovering the cursor in the "Exit Game" button and pressing A, I got the option to select 999 and OK, and then the game exited, and on reload the soul entry was gone, but no extra souls. A bit of experimentation and in my case, I placed the cursor in line with the "G", and just below the bottom line of the highlighted "Exit Game" button. Basically the mouse has to be as near to the button as possible without actually touching it. If I went a bit further down, I got the "Reorder" option instead, which makes sense since it's the next item on the action menu that is sitting behind the system menu. I think this may depend on the exact screen resolution being used - which could explain some peoples problems.
I'm not a programming expert, but I think what happens when the cursor is in contact with the "Exit Game" menu, the final "OK" signal is sent to both menus, thus triggering a game save and exit while the Soul processing is started. Hence the souls go missing and the game exits. For someone trying this for the first time, I would suggest placing a single soul item that you are willing to loose as the first attempts, until you have it figured out.
Anyway - November 2022 and it still works! I am so grateful to you guys for publishing this - I really was getting nowhere fast with this game, and this exploit is effectively the easy mode I need to make any headway. Games are for enjoyment after all, at least that's my view.
Finally, a deal is a deal - subscribed.
Edit: I have found that using the keyboard gives me a much more consistent glitch trigger than a controller. Process: Use the controller for all the steps up to the point where you press the d-pad down to get to the "Brightness" menu. When that is selected, put the controller down (carefully!), and tap E + End on the keyboard. Very slight delay between E and End, so it sounds like a quick "tap-tap", not a single "tap". When you have the glitched menus, position the mouse at the "Exit Game" option as before, pick up the controller and press A, and proceed with the final steps.
i don't know what i do wrong evertime i do this i will be landing on the starting screen and when i return the item is gone.

@@GamingExploits He's wrong. You can have multiple types of arrows, but the stack of 999 HAS to be in the second row just like the item you're trying to duplicate. I know it works because that's exactly how I did it.

still not working for me -- if i hover mouse it doesn't pop up with the amount option it just quits the game, if i use controller it pops up with the amount but actually quits the game and i lose the item, I've lost 5 boss souls so for without getting anything
Firstly the glitch doesn’t work with boss souls. Secondly, you need to hover your mouse but click with the controller

While attempting to do the glitch, I go through the steps as normal, but when I exit the brightness screen the System Menu doesn't come up like yours, only the Item Menu, which functions as the game intends. On your screen you seem to have it overlaid between the two. I believe I'm doing it correctly. I can't imagine this game has had this patched out in these past couple of months, either. Any ideas?

I did this and it just dropped the soul and quit the game, when i loaded it back it wasnt there either. Did i do something wrong? I followed the video step by step

I am doing it 17.9.2023 and it doesnt work. I think they patched it. I have done exactly the same, but instead of getting the souls, the just quit to the main menu and the only soul i had is lost. So as now of this day, i dont recomment to anybody to try it, you will only lose souls.

idk why but I was on the quit menu and had 999 arrows chosen, when hit ok it actually quit me out of the game. When I get back the souls were consumed but didn't duplicated

It also happens to me! BUT I discover that in the final step, instead of going left to OK, press right in the d-pad! It worked for me that way.
I tried soul glitch. When I say Quit, he kicks me out of the game.

you dont need the controller you can just use your up down right left buttons and end home enter its not that hard keyboard is just fine press enter before the end button and dont click ok with enter if you do it you quit the game just click

I'm playing this on the steam deck and I figured it out at the end. You use the right track pad as a mouse and hover over quit then when you press ok hold the A button and you'll have numerous souls.
It just moves the camera for me :( how do you bring up the mouse on deck?

I think I'll try and use this when I start a second playthrough.
I want to play a New Game+ but with a different type of character and since we cant re-spec I'll use this on a basic New Game.
It should still be fun, very powerfull character, but having to find all the powerfull tools he needs on their way, a different way of playing Dark Souls that is actually fun and not a show of masochistic tendencies.

20/06/2024 Still works, for those who don't have a controller, use the arrows on your keyboard.

I just tried to do this twice and all it did was quit my game and take away the soul from my inventory in the process. not giving me any. I followed the steps exactly.
FAQ:
- YES it still works on all platforms
- NO it hasn’t been patched, and it’s very unlikely it ever will be now. The last patch was in 2018.
- YES it has to be the remastered edition.

- You can easily afford a stack of 999 wood arrows for 3000 souls by the time you reach the merchant in undead parish

- Press R1 and X with a delay in between NOT at the same time
- ALWAYS scroll down and not up in the menus

I got it working but it's greasy it's very very greasy.
I lost like 5 soul consumables and 5 humanities trying to do it because it kept quitting my game.
just dont quit the game when it give you the option to, and reset the cycle. Also idk if its relevant but remove all other arrow types from your inventory. It worked for me after that.
