A quote from Lin-Manuel Miranda about this song. Makes me love it even more. "I’m the baby of the family. I have a sister who’s six years older, and she got a raw deal. That song is my love letter and apology to my sister for having it easier. I watched my sister deal with the pressure of being the oldest and carrying burdens I never had to carry. I remember my parents woke my sister up to put together a He-Man playset for Christmas before I woke up. They wanted it to be fully assembled when I woke up on Christmas morning. I put all of that angst and all of those moments into Luisa"
great detail: every time mirabel looks terrified and luisa notices, her way of dancing suddenly includes the donkeys and fun dance moves. even in her breakdown luisa is still thinking of keeping mirabel safe
I’m an old lady, but I wanted to comment on this social shift: there’s a dozen popular reaction videos of young men who are brought close to tears by an animated movie. That didn’t exist when I was young, and I am so happy to see young men unencumbered by showing emotions.
Luisa’s character growth, about having to be strong and the related pressure is a mirror to the societal pressure given to traditional male gender roles. By the end, she comes to term with the fact that she also needs to rest and that she shows emotions too. This is the shift you are referencing to with your observation of young men. Emotions are not weakness and strong people are allowed to self care too.
I love that she's talking about herself. Feeling all her pressure and pain. But every time something dangerous appears she puts herself between the danger and her sister. Even pausing to fix her glasses. She is going through it but she never stops taking care of her baby sister.
That’s why I liked Luisa more than Isabella. In Isa’s song, she didn’t hardly consider Mirabel or try to help Mirabel up the tree, Isa didn’t make sure Mirabel wasn’t falling off the vines, etc, nothing. The only time Isa looked at Mirabel to listen to her was when Mirabel said Isa was “awesome”. It truly shows how much Luisa thinks about everybody else, while Isa thinks only of herself
@@mimrora well that was before she became happy and finally knew being always perfect isn't fun and she became nicer but she still isn't the type of person to do anything for her sister.
That's kind of a sign of how central her pressure to protect and care is. Even in her venting song, she still can't fully let go of that pressure. It's sweet of course, but also a sign of just how deep rooted and toxic the pressure is for her.
@@mimrora >while Isa thinks only of herself Bruh, Isa's entire character arc is she following the life her grandma wants because that's the best for their family...
@@mimrora she pulls mirabel up from the carnivorous plant 🤔 but I think it was because it was a big moment where isabel was letting herself experiment, step out of that role she’s forced to play and try something that isn’t “perfect” so.. but we all have our opinions
I read an article somewhere that Luisa's merch is outselling Isabella's and Disney is shocked by it. They thought because Isabella was classically beautiful, that children would naturally gravitate toward her. After seeing this song and witnessing how strong, powerful, but also soft and vulnerable Luisa is, I don't think Isabella ever stood a chance against her. Children are far more perceptive than we give them credit for and the adults that watched (either because they have children or just love Disney) understood the value of Luisa's words and responsibilities. Luisa is a beautifully written character, and I hope that Disney has learned that we need more characters like her.
I teach 3-5th grade its amazing to see how much these kids relate to Luisa's character. So many of my students are 8-10 but have lots of home responsibilities and are always taking care of their younger siblings. Remote school, I had kids with their baby siblings on their lap. I have one student in 3rd who is bigger than all the other students, she's built strong, taller than all the boys and everything, and sometimes the boys make fun of her for it, call her fat and to combat it she puts her an even tougher front. She'll lunge at them and threaten to smack them but she's literally the sweetest and such a hugger and watching her take care of and protect her friends reminded me of how gently Luisa takes care of Mirabel. I love that my kids have a character like Luisa to see and relate to. These kids are young but they see a lot, understand a lot and feel a lot and I'm glad the movies give them the space to process these emotions.
oh yeah for sure! i see her merch on tiktoks where her figurine is being made to carry all these heavy stuff. it’s funny and cute to watch! i love the luisa love!
When I first seen the movie with my 5 year old daughter I thought for sure she would like Isabella more. But she LOVES Luisa! She told me that even though Luisa is a strong girl (like she is a big sister) my daughter loves that Luisa cries in the movie because it showed her that no matter how strong you are you can still cry.
I mean both Luisa and Isabela's characters were gonna see some oddness because Disney has both never had a buff character like Luisa but also never had as dark-skinned "princesa" character as Isabel (even more so than Tiana and Isabela's merch is actually for some reason darker than in the movie) so they both overcame a lot for the love and we should give them both credit.
Before we saw the movies I let one of my daughters Luisa happy meal toys go to the thrift store not knowing she would me MY hero! Now I probably going to spend money just trying to get something!
"Bitch, Imma cry" is just my favorite part of this reaction. I've been watching these reactions for days and I have to say watching grown men tear up over a woman's struggle is heartwarming as all heck. Restores just a pinch of faith for me. Let those tears flow, bro! I still cry every time I see this one song and believe me, I've seen it A. LOT.
I appreciate and respect this man because a lot of guys would think it’s “unmanly” to enjoy something made for children. I love that he isn’t afraid of stereotypes and shit.
Yeah I learned that early with hunchback of notre dame and lion king Just using The infatuation frollo has with Esmeralda is definitely not child friendly and let’s not forget scar’s brotherly regicide for the throne
Especially the latest Disney movies have some really powerful messages that kids can enjoy and adults can relate to. I watched encanto with my youngest kid and she was dancing while I was crying, and I don't feel unmanly at all for feeling emotions!
"Why are you watching that kids movie, you're 26" "Bitch imma cry" IS EXACTLY WHAT I FELT WATCHING HER PART. Like damn, if you're the oldest child this trauma will haunt you forever
Luisa is a middle child and its very accurate to many middle children. The middle child doesnt seem to have much pressure on them but thats because they dont feel like they can show it. Oldest and youngest children also have pressure but the middle children are forgotten a lot and people forget to point out that oldest children are rewarded when they do something good and comforted when they mess up. Youngest are rewarded when they do good and are also comforted when they mess up and if theyre in the middle they are told that they are still doing good. Middle children are rewarded when they do good and some are just ignored because the parents are too busy telling the oldest how proud they are. And when we mess up our parents tell us they know its hard but our older siblings can do it so we should be able to also.
@@justarandombean1493 Whatever you think man, it's your point of view. I was personally never rewarded for the good stuff and pretty much always judged if I did something wrong because I was supposed to be the strong one, the second most responsible after mom. I didn't say that it's just oldest sibling thing. What I said is that's relatable for me as an oldest child and I can say that most of the oldest siblings I know faced the same kind of pressure. I'm sorry you middle child experience sucked?? but hey mine wasn't great either thanks for understanding
The directors had to fight tooth and nail for her to look and be like this. The producers wanted her to be petite and glamorous. She’s the most popular character.
@@Phillylove100 BULL. She has a traditionally feminine hairdo, traditionally feminine clothes, and a very traditionally feminine body shape, just upscaled. There is NOTHING masculine about her. She's beautiful, if you don't see it, you're blind.
I always thought that look was one of shame. Like, she feels ashamed for complaining about how she feels. She feels ashamed for even feeling negative about her role in the family and town.
It's kind of telling the the first woman in Disney animation history to have the stereotypically masculine trait of physical superiority has the same insecurities as the majority of men. "Only women, children, and dogs are loved unconditionally." - Chris Rock
To be honest, I think doing a lot is better than just chilling all day, only wasting things and not doing anything than benefits someone (I also mean benefit yourself). I don't mean completely stressing out, but I personally feel bad not being productive for example, so it's not generally a bad thing. :)
this is me. I went into the air force but was med discharged from basic and never finished (can't go back, attempted twice now too old). My mom is my dependent and has some (relatively small) health problems but I'm the only one working and paying all the bills. My supervisor position (and many others' positions) was taken away a little over a year ago. If I can't serve (my work, my country, myself, my mom) I am worthless.
My girl Luisa getting the recognition that she rightfully deserves! Best song of the whole soundtrack. Period. Edit : first time ever I got 1k likes on a comment. TY guys! 😄
"WATCH as she buckles and BENDS but never BREAKS---" The emotion on her face and in her voice... The agony, the stress, but the loving self-sacrifice that's also in there... It's just so relateable. I would die for my family.
The imagery at the same time of Maribel seeing the actual weight over her head and the implication that the stones are actually over both of them and Luisa is stopping them from crushing Maribel is a gut punch every time I see it.
The part that impressed me the most was "the ship doesn't swerve as it heard how big the Iceberg is" I love the sound of it, but also that it just says it all. Everyone just expects her to be able to handle every task, they don't second guess their trust in her even if their lives depend on it. It's just a lot to take on for anyone...
I think it’s a question. “The ship doesn’t swerve… has it heard how big the iceberg is???” Gives it a sense of “I wish we would at least TRY to avoid danger so I didn’t have to personally smash every single threat. That thing is big! What if one of these days I don’t manage it??”
I also heard someone point out once, and is my favorite interpretation, was that that's what sank the Titanic to begin with, being too headstrong and over confident in its ability
I'm not an older sibling But I'm the biggest child (A full 6 inches on my older brother) And this song still hits hard for me because I'm the pack mule The muscle
I’m the oldest of 10 kids. When I heard this song for the first time, I broke down crying. The feeling of acknowledgment for the extreme pressure older sisters have is beyond refreshing.
I’m the oldest of 12 and same. 😭 The first time I heard this song I cried like a baby because I relate to it so much. I’m also a first generation American so I feel like not only do I have to make sure my siblings are okay but my parents too. Hands down the best song in this movie.
That line 'watch as she buckles and bends but never breaks' is so heart breaking. It clearly shows how much her family expects of her, its like saying give all the burden to her she will never break, that's why she feels all these pressure to not break or not crack even though deep inside she's almost about to fall apart and she doesn't wanna do it anymore.
Yeah, that line "the ship doesn't swerve as it hears how big the iceberg is" to me means that her family doesn't even bother to question whether Luisa can fix all of their problems for them. They just expect her to do it, and to have it done before it can inconvenience them.
"Child friendly" doesn't have to mean "for kids". This is a good example of that. Most kids don't know this pressure and probably can't relate, but nothing here is bad for kids and it's a great song.
I think a lot do, actually, in several ways. This can be applied to home (I'm pretty sure there's more families where the child has more pressure than what's healthy for them than there aren't), school (because it has no regard for the fact you like having a life outside of it), being an older sister that takes all the responsibility, the person that does everything, and - this one particularly hits home for me - being the emotional support in the family, if not one of the big ones. Kids are durable, yes, but they feel that pressure as much as anyone, and they can be pretty good at hiding it. Granted you might be talking about like toddlers and I'm talking about 6 - 12 year olds (past that is teens) so 😅
Thats actually helpful ahah thanks. I'm 20 y.o. and I proudly watch cartoons since forever, from disney to studio ghibli to less known studios, I've grown up with every kind of cartoons ever, Adventure Time, Heidi, Mazinga Z, Dexter, irregular show, Rick and Morty and many many many others, and now thats not different. The only difference Is that when I was a child i just enjoyed those cartoons, now I enjoy them and then I like to dig deep inside to find meanings, technic aspects and culturale references. But everytime someone get to know i am a cartoon lover they always jump out with "arent you too old for cartoons?", "Cartoons are for children" and similia. But videos like these really helps me out, when I got into the comment section I always notice how many "not children" enjoy those kind of content, so I feel a bit better ahah. Next time someone bring out a statement like this i will sing this song to their face proudly! Sorry for any eventual grammarical errors, english Is not my First League 😁
I love the pink cloud break away part. Jessica's voice is like butter. And I love that Luisa gets to have that moment of relief..But the look that she and Mirabel exchange while freefalling--connected! I like both songs for different reasons and have to say the animation and choreography as well as the AMAZING vocal performances- song writing-- the whole enchilada!
The way that the song is about Luisa breaking down, and being frustrated and burdened by the pressure of having to be "the strong one", but the whole time she is singing, she is still doing everything just to protect Maribel is so sweet😩
@@Sparten7F4 ohh damn I didn't even think of that! Even in this moment of confession, Luisa is filtering what she says so she isn't putting weight and stress on her little sis. 🥺😭
The creators had to fight Disney to give Luisa that body type. She just wouldn't have been the same with a normal woman's body. Also, can we take a moment to appreciate the dance choreography and animation? It's all so amazing.
@adrienne i’m pretty sure you knew exactly what they meant in the original comment. a “normal woman’s body” meaning how society thinks a woman’s body should be. how often do you see women with bodies like hers ? please use comprehensive skills.
@@adrienne4605 I'm guessing a slightly chubby or just a bit thinner than chubby women with not much muscle mass. Maybe strong legs, but weak arms and no visible abs for sure. That's what a typical woman is where I live.
@@ChloeDenise06 I agree, but in my opinion society's expectation of what a woman's body is is an unhealthy thin unrealistic woman that rarely gets that body without plastic surgery. Maybe you meant the women's body type that is most common in society?
@@lullasings3466 I can answer this. Society and movies. Movie execs seem to think us females only want Barbie types as heroines, and that's just not the case. Little girls want to see everyone represented, all colors and types. Luisa is by far my favorite, so far. Paul (OP) is fine here. Adrienne was looking for a fight, methinks.
Watching everyone regardless of race, gender, or age come together to get emotional over Luisa and all the pressure she's under is great. It's such a well-written song that conveys so much pain and struggle and it's wonderful to see you go "bitch I'm gonna cry" because same. It really hits hard.
"Watching everyone regardless of race, gender, or age come together to get emotional over Luisa" It comes to show that representation is not about the color of your skin. You can feel represented by, and realate to, any character. I am not a colombian woman, and I can absolutely relate to her.
@@Tkokat representation is important not because you need to look like a character, but because characters with different backgrounds can resonate with people in different ways. It's so wonderful to see such a variety of characters nowadays :)
It adds to my point, really. You talked about background, and I completely agree. I feel related to Luisa because of her life, not whats going on between her legs. Or the color of her skin (although, we do have the same skin color) @@Mothy2003
as a big sister i broke down crying, especially the lines, “she bends and cracks but never breaks” and “she if she handle every family burden” im the oldest of 3 and my siblings call me their Luisa
Oldest of four here and I feel like I have all the pressures of Luisas life, with the being forgotten and frequently feeling like an outsider that Mirabelle goes through. I haven't been included in a family portrait since I was a teen, and my folks frequently forget to even reference me in things about the family. They only seem to remember or think of me when things are hard and they need me to shoulder things or get stuff done or when my life has gone off the rails enough that I'm not there to support them.
I feel ya sister! I’m the oldest of 4 kids and I have three younger brothers. So talk about the pressure to “handle every family burden.” This song hit home so hard for me I cried too 💕
My hyperfixation manifests itself in memorizing lyrics. Surface Pressure was the first one I memorized from Encanto. I was surprised that We Don't Talk About Bruno was the more popular one. Don't get me wrong, both songs slap, but I prefer Surface Pressure. 💪😁👍
This movie actually won the golden globe award. It's officialy well surpassed Frozen profits supposedly most successful disney movie in 26 years. They did a great job with this movie, and to know it was all filmed separately through zoom. Thats some real hard work. This movies a master piece. Same guy who created Hamilton
@@katrinarossi2443 omfg that’s insane! I’m trying to persuade my parents to watch this movie with me. I watched it once because I was curious and loved it. Absolutely amazing that they filmed this over zoom
Luisa is actually the middle sister :) Isabela's (who is the older one) song is a different kind of pressure, the pressure of being perfect. While I personally like Bruno and pressure better, "What else can I do?" is great as well. Enjoyed the reaction and keep going!
I honestly relate to What Else Can I Do more than Surface Pressure, but that makes sense seeing as I’m the youngest sibling who was a accident. My parents always wanted my older sister and I was the “mistake”, so I’ve lived my whole life trying to be perfect like my older sister.
True but the song was written as an apology to Lin Manuel Miranda's sister who is the oldest daughter. So while the character is a middle child this song is about the burden oldest daughters have in Latino families
This song is like a mental breakdown in song format. It was the first song that really caught my attention in this movie and it's probably the best to. They did such an awesome job.
"the first song that really caught my attention" is exactly my experience too. I saw Encanto in theaters back in November. The art style was nice from the start obviously, and I was interested in the characters. But the music so far was just "good" Disney musical fair imo. I heard Surface Pressure and all of a sudden I'm like "hold ON, this soundtrack is doing something special." The whole film is doing something special at the end of the day.
This is my favorite song from Encanto. Everyone is going on about the parts that hit them hard, but the party that really hit me was when the boulders are falling near the end and the look of actual fear on her face. Through the entire song she mostly looked determined even though she was singing about her vulnerabilities, but there when she was looking at Maribel we can see how scared she truly is.
Can we all just stop to appreciate the fact he actually pauses the song and then talks about it not like so many others talking OVER the sing and sometimes missing the best parts?!! 😭❤️❤️
As an older sister, with a mother who has a medical condition and a brother with autism, when I first heard this song I broke down and had a bit of a cry because it brought up a lot of emotions I'd pushed down over the years. It beautifully summed up how I'd felt over the years and never feeling like I was enough for my family. Edit: So thank you all for the likes, love and support, and I just want to point out this comment was not intended to spark any offence with identification of neurological conditions. My brother prefers to say "I have autism" rather than "I'm austisitc" because he feels more comfortable that way. But this does not take away from those who prefer to refer to themselves as autistic, as there is no right or wrong way to express yourself as an individual.
I have a brother with autism and an older sister with her own issues and I felt so similarly. I didn’t want to make things harder on my mom. She couldn’t handle more. I had to carry all my pain on my own (undiagnosed ocd). I’m the middle child like Louisa as well.
@@neen2660 just so you know majority of autistic people want to be referred to as autistic, not “with autism” as our autism is integral to our identity and isn’t just an after thought :) Of course if your brother prefers “with autism” that’s okay but in case you didn’t know! If you would like data to back this up you can view Autistic Not Weird’s survey results with 12k+ answers Edit to add- I’m autistic myself
@@harmony8623 nobody said it was just an "afterthought" and the "with autism" is just describing what condition he has...how does it have anything to do with identity?
As someone who lost her seemingly healthy big brother to stress seizures, he literally passed away because he didn’t know how to properly manage his stress, this song is so freaking relatable and devastatingly beautiful. The way that Louisa protects Mirabel from danger the entire song,The way she straightens her glasses right before the domino doors fall on them. It’s such a sweet song and it’s definitely my most favorite part of the movie. I was like, yeah this movie is pretty good so far, and then they dropped this song and I was obsessed.
I feel like an underrated line in the song is right before the end, "Give it to your sister and never wonder / if the same pressure would have pulled you under." It really shows that she feels like no one even stopped to consider the pressure they were putting on her in the first place.
When she's in the clouds, it portrays her getting a break, and relaxing from the expectations. Then, she sings the "keeps growing" and the background vocals go "pressure, pressure, pressure, pressure, pressure" and they just repeat. I feel like this shows any chance she's relaxed, or trying to be, the thought of living up to Abuela Alma's expectations repeat in her head, and she can't relax because she has anxiety of not being good enough. She's strong on the outside, but this shows her struggle to be strong on the inside. Wow, Lin is the Albert Einstein of songwriting.
Yes!!! She’s got such a great voice and it fits so well with the character and the song. My favorite character is luisa and this song is my favorite it’s just so good???
I hadn't watched the movie before hearing this song and I legitimately though Lizzo released her second single following Rumors because I heard it off the radio that day.
"never wonder if the same pressure would've pulled you under" that line just makes me cry! I've never related to a song so much in the 40 years on this earth.-coming from a fellow big sister
but she isnt the big sister. She is to mirabel but shes actually a middle child and its very accurate to a lot of households of the middle child feeling like they have to put up with the pressure and also not get any help or they are considered weak. I can see how this could also be an older sister thing but it kinda pissed me off when all the older sisters “claimed her” because i finally got to relate to a character then it was kind of taken away. Your feelings are still valid tho.
I'm a big sister. The oldest sister, in fact, in a family of 11. Luisa's the middle sister. My younger sister, the second oldest girl, is the one most like her. Isabela's the oldest, the one pressured to be the perfect one, the standard that the others are held to. Sound familiar?
@@justarandombean1493 yes I can see your point. I never claimed to be the oldest. Just an older sis. I'm technically all 3 in some sense. Blended families and age gaps do that. Older sis but middle at the same time.
I love how the lyrics of the verses, "Under the surface I think about my purpose, can I somehow preserve this?" It makes her sound like she's clenching her teeth trying to express how much pressure she's in, making the song and the character even more relatable.
I was thinking that too. This screams his trademark vibe. Has a Halmiton-esque bop too it that I love. He's definitely one of my favorite song writers as of late.
@@nathancail7939 It gives me heavy “I know my sister like I know my own mind you will never find anyone as trusting or as kind. I love my sister more than anything in this life I will choose her happiness over mine every time..” I adore Hamilton & Encanto sm… I’m a sucker for the sister storylines that Lin creates.
"Give it to your sister and never wonder if the same pressure would've pulled you under" It's this line in particular that really sounds out to me. It rings in a way that shows that genuine empathy and care. The love of wanting to protect not only physically, but emotionally as well. The reason of staying quiet when it's all already so much.
For me it's, "Give it to your sister, it doesn't hurt and see if she can handle every family burden, watch as she buckles and bends, but never breaks!"
This song validates something inside me that I don't know I needed validation of. I felt acknowlegded, understood and heard with just this one song and that's why this is my favorite among all the soundtracks.
Another great song about delving beyond the surface is the other sister's song "what else can I do", which is actually my favorite song where an antagonist becomes relatable. "Waiting on a miracle" is also a masterpiece. Seriously, Lin Manuel Miranda is SERIOUSLY a musical genius. All these songs are more musical theater than Disney-esque.
I wouldn't call Isabella an antagonist at anypoint, but she definitely was meant to be portrayed as an unlikeable character before the song. Even though I liked her before the song as well.
Completely agree. Antagonist doesn’t mean villain. Isabella is an antagonist but once she is understood and breaks down her perfection facade she is no longer an adversary and is welcomed. This movie is incredible as it teaches about the need for communicating and the dangers of misunderstandings and unrealistic expectations. I adore “What Else Can I Do” because it’s so freeing and on the flip side I also adore “Waiting on a Miracle” for that desperation to fit in and be accepted. This movie is a master piece and Lin Manuel Miranda is an absolute musical genius!
@@GemiJD I agree, she is one of the most natural antagonists; a sibling you don't get along with. Throwing in my own thoughts I have yet to see, Isabela and Mirabel are jealous of each other and that's why they don't get along. Isabela gets to belong and is looked at highly by Abuela which is all Mirabel wants, however, with no gift Mirabel has the freedom to do whatever she wants with no expectations put upon her to be anything but herself which is all Isabela wants and both sides, as they are in the beginning, have downsides but that's not what the other person, ever, sees.
This wasn't Disney, it was Lin Manuel Miranda and the ones who designed Luisa, Disney thought kids wouldn't like a woman that looked that buffed, they wanted a more feminine look but everyone involved fought to keep her like that, it's my favorite character, Disney was proven wrong
@@jamieculp8291 Yep, she definitely IS feminine enough. She wears skirts, dances and when she sits on the donkeycorn, she sits like a lady. Just because she is strong, doesn´t mean she has to be tomboy - that´s one of the things I like about her.
This song crushes me. At the end of the bridge, when she heads back into the chorus so quietly, there's this vulnerability, this *terror* in her eyes, and she looks at her little sister like she truly believes that this pressure that is crushing her will never, ever, ever, let her rest for a moment. The visual of her going from a free open sky to this cramped position in the shadows, staring out from under a rock, scared and young and fragile... It is, to me, the most powerful and genuinely painful part of the song. It hurts so much more for having shown a moment of freedom, and rest, and health... and then this return to the responsibilities that she should never have had forced on her. It's so good, but it hurts so very badly.
Exactly! Her face when the boulders are falling on her and then she peeks and you see the sadness! the fear! And the shrug that says at least I had a little time to myself, but back to work! Because who else would do it if not her? Who else could do it? I love this song!
My hearts ACHES every time I watch it. The animation has come so far, but what stands out about it in THIS movie is the expressions _only in the eyes._ They're EVERYTHING. And even when I'm singing this song in the car like every day, because I relate to it _so much,_ I can NOT sing the second half without belting it raw and hard-edged, anger and crying out in every note. And I know it's the same for SO many people out there. I read a tweet that said "Your oldest daughter is not okay, she's listening to Surface Pressure on repeat." That about sums it up.
@@milo_thatch_incarnate I'm sorry big sister. My older sister is kind of like that. She's constantly taking care of us... but I somehow get more cred with everyone. I dont know why. When I talk her up people act like it's weird that I'm so protective but... they're never kind enough to her, vs the pressure they put. She might be em more like Mirabelle, but that's story for another day. Suffice it to say I'm sorry you are getting crushed in on with all the pressure. From a younger sibling: take care of yourself. You deserve a you. Maybe no one else does.
As the oldest of 3 girls growing up with a dad in the Navy and a mom with physical limitations, I definitely relate most to this song. And I would always 'stuff' my worries and anxieties until one day, they pushed me over the edge and I started having pseudo seizures and other physical manifestations of stress. I hope you react to What Else Can I Do next. That's the other song I relate to - the expectation of being perfect.
Ikr!!! I cried when I first heard the song, I'm the oldest of 5 and my 2 youngest brothers call me "mama" because our mother is too busy with her work, she got no time for me and my little siblings (my father is the same and worse)
"We Don't Talk About Bruno" is definitely the most catchy song from the movie Encanto. My personal favourite song is definitely "Surface Pressure" sung by Luisa, the strong one. It has the most power and relatability in my opinion. I highly recommend everyone to see this movie.
We Don't Talk About Bruno is so catchy, that it gets stuck in my head and starts to annoy me. This one doesn't, but I still love it. I'd definitely put this one over the other any day.
Unpopular opinion obviously but, while it's good, "we don't talk about Bruno" is far from being my favourite, Mirabel's (Mirabelle's?) sisters songs and especially this one are much more my thing bc they go beyond a catchy tune
One of the things I love about this song that no one seems to be talking about is the fact that it's a song sung by a female character, in a Disney movie, that is in an alto register! That's kind of revolutionary, I'm not sure we've even had that before, the only other songs that comes to mind are poor unfortunate soul from the little mermaid 30 years ago, or possibly mother knows best from tangled. Both villan songs, it's awesome to hear a song sung in that register to portray strength instead of villany. As someone who has a lower register singing voice and loves Disney songs I'm so happy to have another song that will more comfortably fit my voice. I love the villan songs but it's fun to be a hero every once in a while, especially as villan song are less common in Disney films now.
YES! I'm not muscular like Luisa, but I'm almost more of a tenor than an alto - a song where I can use my deep voice, hearing another feminine woman with a deep voice, it's wonderful. And it speaks to me as an older sister, too.
This song hit me hard. My brother died in October. Long illness, my mom who has always been the rock of our family is broken, AND she has mobility issues, my dad's getting older, and we still have to take care of my 93 year old grandmother. Through all of it, I've been taking on more and more family responsibilities. I work 50 hours a week, and spend my days off moving things they can't move, running errands, looking out for my parents and grandmother. I haven't had time to grieve, I only have time to keep going, because one of us has to. At least I don't have kids to take care of. I know people who have to do as much as I do but more.
@@Sir_Zombie1ted thanks, it seems like I've just taken on just a fraction of what my mom always did. And I always feel like I'm failing. But she was able to be a stay at home mom/whole family coordinator. That's not a possibility for me. So I just feel like I'm falling short everywhere. I wish I had her strength.

I used to always kinda roll my eyes when people say music gave them goosebumps and for the first time ever this song gave me actual goosebumps and I was like "what the hell that actually happens??" And Disney didn't realize how popular Luisa was because how relatable she is for practically every millennial right now. They didn't even make enough dolls of her and focused on pretty sister and people are like "no we demand Luisa!" I absolutely love this character and song!
Ayyyy see? SEE HOW IT FEEELS? THE FEELS, THE FEELING, IT'S FUCKIN' AMAZING ISN'T IT M8? You've found it, the potential was within you all along. I'm happy for you.
I know right, and Mirabel mad it very clea in "the Family Madrigal" that Luisa is Beauty AND Brawn. It's facts. Look how pretty she is! And her pouty face when she's sad And then the DANCE MOVES!! I LOVE LUISA!!
Surface Pressure is so underrated, especially when compared to We Don't Talk About Bruno, so it's nice to see someone truly appreciate it for the very meaningful bop it is.
This song resonated with me on a very deep level. I cried for about 45 minutes straight. Then I decided to take charge of the stress in my life and take some heavy burdens off my plate. This song literally changed my life for the better. It still hits me in the feels. It’s my anthem.
I'm glad they made her look feminine despite her muscles. It would've been so easy for Pixar to make her more masculine. And she doesn't shy away from having a muscular body type. She's constantly flexing. You can tell she isn't shy about being a muscular, strong woman. I love that! Strong and feminine.
The animators actually had a lot of trouble with getting permission to make her more muscular, her character build was originally meant to be Isabella’s but they pushed until they were allowed to give her a more muscular build!
We don't talk about Bruno shows a lot of strength in its music and variability, while Surface pressure shows more strength in regards to lyrics and emotions. I know many people prefer the first one, but as I like songs with strong emotional context and inventive lyrics my favourite is definitely the latter. To be honest, We don't talk about Bruno is probably my least favourite of the entire movie, which doesn't mean it's a bad song, but it just doesn't carry enough emotions with it, at least not for me.
i don't like we don't talk about bruno for 1. same reason you don't like it 2. overrated as hell 3. its good and i like some parts but the other parts arent my style
"See if she can handle every family burden " and "Give it to your sister and never wonder if the same pressure would have pulled you under" always get to me when I listen to this song. Favorite song from encanto. Hoping u react to more encanto songs :)
Her voice changes a few times in this song and it’s perfect. The verses and chorus she sounds kinda like she is flexing/tense. But then the bridge when she says “But wait!” She switches to a flowing, relaxed voice to reflect that she’s imagining being able to relax. Then it slowly tenses back up going into the chorus again. It’s subtle, but it’s very much intentional
It's not just the voice. The lyrics have more stressed words closer together during the verses and chorus, with drip drip drip being one of the most concentrated bits. The relaxed bit has the least number of stressed words per bar. The other thing to note is that it is mostly using words that have the stress on the first part of the word. Like MIS-take. So it starts strong, then fades.
This song has always made me cry. As being the older sister i had to grow up way to fast, never got to enjoy my childhood. I was pretty much my sister mom since I was 11. I absorbed all the pain and pressure and carried all the burdens to protect my sister. I’m 25 now and my sister is 20 and she still tells me all the time how she viewed me as more of her mom than a sister. It’s extremely hard and this song touched me deep into my heart and described exactly how I feel.
When I first watched this movie..THIS SONG brought me to absolute tears. I can relate to the lyrics on soooo many levels. I also get a twitch whenever i'm overwhelmed or stressed
Same I was holding back tears during this song because well I was watching it with a family member and it'd be awkward for them to just stop and try to cheer me up lol.
@@lauramercadante2923 Aww, cool you feel comfortable enough to do that, wish I did but I don't get emotional often so when I actually show it everyone freaks out it's weird
This guys vibe is immaculate?!?!? The energy is just 10/10. So nice to actually see someone show how much they’re enjoying the songs they’re reacting to.
This is my favourite song from the movie the line "see if she can handle every family burden" always gets me!! I highly recommend you check out Claire Crosby singing this song she is 9 and just absolutely crushes it! (Also I follow their family on yt and she is the oldest of 4 so her version choked me up more honestly)
I had to have a listen to Claire’s version after you recommended it. She’s very talented! but naturally being a young child, lacks the emotional ability to convey the actual concept and burden of responsibility and expectations. Which is good, because she’s 9 and if she felt she could resonate with the lyrics too much, then I’d be questioning her upbringing. She’s still a baby, and should be enjoying her carefree youth and not feeling pressured to uphold any hard standards. When she’s aged more and her voice matures and she truly discovers the meaning and genuine sentiment of the lyrics, then she will probably be able to evoke more expression and emotion into her vocal nuances so that it communicates the message and meaning of the song a little more. That’s just my opinion and observation though, doesn’t mean I’m right or wrong. I think she will go on to do amazing things.
I’m not the oldest sibling in my family, I’m actually the youngest, but I still find this song really relatable. If you have successful siblings, you can feel the pressure to be as great at they are. It’s really overwhelming having to watch your older siblings succeed and struggle at being adults, while you are on the verge of adulthood and wondering if you can succeed or if you will fall to the pressure.
I watched this movie with my little sibling - who is the Mirabel of our highly dysfunctional family, while I am Luisa. We just held eachother's hands for much of the movie. They're normally not the type to cry at movies, but we were both a bit of a mess at the end. It definitely hit a little too close to home in more ways than one, but that just made it a more incredible experience.
@@doritocoolranch Yeah, we're glad to have eachother too. We're both big proponents of found family, but it's so good to have at least someone from your birth family who you can always count on and who understands what you're going through even if all the other relatives are useless at best and actively hateful at worst. Sib has a twin sister, but not only do they look nothing alike, they're also complete opposites in every other way. The two of us on the other hand share a single braincell, look alike and even our parents can barely tell our voices apart. We often joke that WE were supposed to be the twins but they chickened out, so I scouted ahead and they had to be dragged out kicking and screaming two years later via cesarean.
i’m obsessed with this song! it’s my favourite after we don’t talk about bruno, that one’s my all time fav :) i’m about to watch this reaction i’m super excited!
I’ve noticed a small detail, which idk if anyone else did already, but she’s like the living embodiment of Atlas from Greek mythology. He was given the burden to carry the literal weight of the world on his shoulders, and you see just for a few seconds in this song. You can come up with your interpretations to this, but it was something I’ve noticed and put together in my head.
@@themisia4870 Ohhh, I always thought it was the Earth. The name, and depictions of Atlas made me think that he held up the earth. You learn something new.
I like this guy's reactions. He's totally honest and reliable. He's not like other reaction that just focus on the lyrics or the music. He sees it as a whole but he doesn't miss the details in the lyrics and arrangements. I agree in all his comments and perceptions. Going to follow him. kudos
not to mention his happiness is very contagious. I thought this song was alright the first time I heard it, but now im on an Encanto reaction marathon, and his reaction by far hyped me up for this song. It's my favorite song now. I didn't even realize it related to me so much, as the eldest sister and sibling
me too. I like all songs of Encanto and We don't talk about Bruno is a great one, but this one has so much more impact and emotion it is the best song of the movie. Surface Pressure shows both what the others see and what is really happening. It shows how messed up the family is in a wonderful song. I mean 'give her every family burden see if she will hang on a little longer' is messed up. You don't do that to family.
Disney told the animators to make her smaller...like a princess. They said it's her character, she has to be big and strong! ❤ Love this song. I'm crying every time o hear it.
i also love how despite her being very strong and muscular they still kept her feminine. like strong women are not always masculine and i love that the creators considered that
I love that they fought for Luisa's designed. I'm 100% sure it wasn't easy even when Disney was told it was based on the FIRST Colombian woman to win a gold medal in wrestling (or maybe it was just the first woman wrestler I can't recall right now) point is they fought and won and now we got a super strong looking Luisa that doesn't look like a Tomboy.
What I find so interesting is that the strong sis, Luisa, took that "I have to stay strong" to an unhealthy level, but the act of admitting via this song that she feels crushed by the pressures is an enormous step forward for her in finding a healthy balance and not trying to pretend she has no flaws or weaknesses. Not only does this song absolutely bang, but it's a really important moment of character growth, and those two combined make me practically giddy whenever I hear it. This song is going on ALL of my playlists!
What most people dont realise that everything being portrayed in these songs in “Encanto” are all based on real expectations and real family strains that most Colombian families have. For example, the older sibling is expected to carry the load of younger siblings as well as be successful to then take care of parents. And so on, it shows Colombian culture so so well that as a Colombian is hits really close to home
I am not Colombian nor any kind of Latino at all but, god damn I sometimes I wish I was part of that. The family dynamics hit different, and I have an extreme admiration for the culture.
I don't mean to undermine what you said. But this kind of culture is also prominent to Asian families if not maybe a large percentage of families in the whole world. Like as the oldest, you are already expected to be mature even at a young age :(
@@shaded_gentleman8363 part korean here and yep. I related to this song because my mother was the oldest daughter and I was her oldest daughter. My mom has always been forced to be the responsible one.
@@shaded_gentleman8363 Yes, in reality Encanto shows Colombian cultures beautifully. But, overall it encompasses family dynamics of People of Color in general. Because this is Blk families too. They did a great job with Encanto. The writers and team also consulted therapists when writing it.
@@shaded_gentleman8363 yup. same here with the lebanese family for example: especially that lebanese families hold a lot of "pride" and "public image" on a pedestal vs self-care.
as an older sister i teared up the first time i heard this, because it hit so hard "see if she can handle every family burden" like damn. And just objectively, this is probably the best song imo bc this song keeps that same amazing energy, but unlike we don't talk about bruno, there is so much nuance of emotion and she carried this song by HERSELF, like that is crazy!!
This has to be the most "Broadway" of the music from Encanto. And the way she takes this powerful, driving chorus and turns it into this delicate, fragile moment is just so brilliant.
I loved 'We don't talk about Bruno' -- but as time goes on, I realize that this song speaks to me so much more. Like, Bruno's just this amazing bit of music, but the lyrics of this are hard hitting and close to home. "I take what I'm handed, I do what's demanded but ... Under the surface, I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service." How about it.
The “who am I if I can’t carry it all” for Luisa is literal. If you haven’t seen the movie, everyone in the family has special gifts (except Mirabell) and Luisa’s gift is strength, nothing is ever too heavy for her.
It's literal on face value, sure, but the magic of this entire song is that it uses Luisa's real, tangible physical strength as a metaphor for her mental state.
I have a guilt and hero complex. This song really hit hard and made me cry, especially the line "I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service"
I’ve also had to deal with a guilt complex in the past (and still do to an extent, though not as bad as before), and *yeah,* that line is heartbreakingly powerful. Hats off to Lin-Manuel Miranda for this masterpiece.
I like how powerful her voice is at the beginning but becomes weak as it goes on to really let her insecurities shine through. It makes the song a whole lot better
I wasn't overly interested in seeing Encanto even while "We Don't Talk About Bruno" was blowing up, but I heard this song and like you said, it's just so powerful and relatable- and hearing how her voice strained, especially in that quiet verse, this song alone convinced me to watch the movie, and I love it even more now. Luisa is such an amazing, beautiful icon, not only because she is buff but because in this song she reveals that that's not all she is - and I've listened to this more than 50 times but still watching your analysis brought me to tears all over again. I'm glad you'll be watching this- it's definitely a movie I'd recommend to everyone just for the messages and emotions
Same--i have a voice similar to hers and I'm the big sister, so my bff sent this to me because she knew it was perfect for me lol. This is what made me watch Encanto and Luisa is my favorite for sure! This song is amazing
This is what Lin-Manuel does best. He is masterful when it comes to his composition and lyrical balance. He is a masterful storyteller and uses the music to build the character to be fully realized and relatable amd not just a shell. She is my favorite in this whole movie and i have watched it 3 times in 2 days. Lol. This song is the best one from the whole movie. LMM killed it with every aspect of this song. As someone who has a degree in music, this is what it is about.
The first time I watched this movie, and heard this song, I had to pause it and cried for about 20 min. I never knew a song could LITERALLY explain every single doubt and dark feeling in my mind & heart that I've been battling for over a decade. Just the expectations and pressure put on people nowadays, especially the younger generations, is suffocating and so detrimental to mental health. I really appreciate Lin Manuel Miranda, the cast, and Disney for shining a light on such issues.
The actors did this in the pandemic at their homes. Some of them never met each other in person until the premiere. So to make such a masterpiece individually, it is absolutely incredible, amazing. Mr. Lin Miranda (Hamilton) wrote these songs and did a Magnificent Job!!!
This song makes me wanna dance but also makes me cry. Her vocals are perfect, the lyrics are raw and emotional and the song gets better with each listen.
Her voice is such a unique beautiful gift! and as for the lyrics? well that's Lin Manuel Miranda for you. Lyrical genius behind Moana, Hamilton, Vivo etc. Anything he touches right now turns to gold. He's slowly becoming a go to lyricist for Disney and as a Puerto Rican I couldn't be more proud.
When she starts that song with “that tough indestructible surface” and throughout the song she’s constantly standing between her sister and the dangers really drives home the fear and the sense of responsibility and pressure. She’s so acutely aware that if she falters it won’t be her who gets hurt and that is literally keeping her up at night. I cried and I am proud to cry for a song like this. Which song I prefer changes based on my own mental and emotional state. They are both so incredible that it comes down to what song I need to listen to more than which one I want to hear.
My eldest, who's 10, made me watch this song on TH-cam before I ever saw the film and I had exactly the same reaction. This song is absolutely brilliant. The weight of how oldest siblings feel obligated to carry the weight of their families made me reflect how my daughter must feel trying to carry more weight than she should have too. My wife is the oldest in her family, and she hates this song, but it's literally about her. Fantastic song.
I relate to this song so hard, and that ‘drip drip drip’ line gets me every time. I’m the youngest in my family, the baby, so my pressure wasn’t in being the oldest sibling that shouldered the burdens. Instead I was the only one who was neurotypical; both my older brothers were diagnosed with Aspergers at a young age. It was hard for them because of a judgemental world, it was hard for my parents who had judgemental siblings of their own, and it was hard for me because “She’s the normal one, what’s her excuse for acting up? She’s the normal one, she’s supposed to be the easy one.” I had a tearful conversation with my mum as an adult about the fact that I didn’t feel like I could rely on her while I was a teen because it felt like she didn’t care about me. She admitted to me that she had no energy or ability to deal with my (very normal) problems growing up after she was done dealing with my brothers (not as normal) problems. She was just done with it by the time I hit puberty and started having my own issues.
as a rapper, you should react to encanto’s ‘the family madrigal’. the rapping/speed singing is so impressive. every syllable is so clear and the tempo is similar to ‘we don’t talk about bruno’
This song makes me cry every time! Even though I'm the middle child, my two older siblings took off as soon as they could and I was left to take care of my alcoholic mother and two younger brothers. No one ever questioned if it was too much for me or asked to help. I FINALLY stood up to my mom years later but even looking back I don't think my brothers know what I did to try to protect them. And this is also why boundaries are so important because you can't handle every family burden by yourself and you shouldn't have to.
I feel like Encanto has a lot of things adults can appreciate but even the more adult concepts my 5 year old niece caught on to and understood, Encanto is just a fantastic movie.
Goodness. The line "I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service" made me realize I hold so much of my worth in my talent and job. Like, yeah I feel that, if I lost my job, it worse lost the ability to do it I'd feel worthless.
It's brilliant too that Luisa is the first muscler female character in Disney,to prove that not only slim and elegant is beautiful of women. Ps. Love your reaction,so emotional❤
First time I heard “Surface Pressure” I was felt both attacked and finally seen. I’m the oldest of 4 children. When my dad suddenly passed away almost 9 years ago, I realized I was the only other person in the family with a job, so I immediately shouldered the provider burden. Two of my siblings have moved out, so it’s me, my mom, and my younger sister still. And somehow I’m still here. “No pressure.”

Totally support you granny

This is my first video from this TH-camr but it’s so refreshing to see a guy share his emotion like this!
This old lady agrees 100%!
@@mimrora >while Isa thinks only of herself
Bruh, Isa's entire character arc is she following the life her grandma wants because that's the best for their family...

"WATCH as she buckles and BENDS but never BREAKS---"
The emotion on her face and in her voice...
The agony, the stress, but the loving self-sacrifice that's also in there...
It's just so relateable. I would die for my family.
Girl same
That's my favorite line, the way she's struggling but that doesn't matter... She pushes through literally carrying more than anyone ever could...
The imagery at the same time of Maribel seeing the actual weight over her head and the implication that the stones are actually over both of them and Luisa is stopping them from crushing Maribel is a gut punch every time I see it.
sAME,- i NEVER WANTED MY FAMILY TO DIE CUZ i THINK IF MY FAMILY ĐIED I'D BE USELESS--
The line " give it to your sister and never wonder if the same pressure would have pulled you under" has so much power
I’m surprised no one has commented on that… it’s a hidden Easter egg. The ship is the Titanic
I think it’s a question. “The ship doesn’t swerve… has it heard how big the iceberg is???” Gives it a sense of “I wish we would at least TRY to avoid danger so I didn’t have to personally smash every single threat. That thing is big! What if one of these days I don’t manage it??”

My thoughts exactly. @@kodahansen8080
"Child friendly" doesn't have to mean "for kids". This is a good example of that. Most kids don't know this pressure and probably can't relate, but nothing here is bad for kids and it's a great song.
Exactly, Disney is a master at making movies that kids love and adults enjoy
Also, it's _really_ good for kids to understand that sometimes adults aren't OK too, which helps everyone understand that we're all in the same boat.
The way that the song is about Luisa breaking down, and being frustrated and burdened by the pressure of having to be "the strong one", but the whole time she is singing, she is still doing everything just to protect Maribel is so sweet😩
Mirabel*
Notice that every time Mirabel is out of her depth, when the stuff happening is getting too much, the scene changes as well to give her a break.
Esecially at the end, when Mirabel looks scared, and Luisa IMMEDIATELY makes the song more poppy and fun and starts dancing.
A normal woman’s body? Where do I even start with that comment….

Can relate here I'm the oldest out of three as well💕 😭 aaaa
Hope you're getting lots of hugs.

EASILY. LMM is a brilliant lyricist. And Jessica Darrow just knocked it out of the park. So so so good. Best song from the movie BY FAR.

@@c0smicm0nkey Yeah…?
This song gives off MASSIVE middle child vibes
On the reverse, "What else can I do" is like a revelation in song form.

I feel like an underrated line in the song is right before the end, "Give it to your sister and never wonder / if the same pressure would have pulled you under." It really shows that she feels like no one even stopped to consider the pressure they were putting on her in the first place.
That line hits me like a truck.
Also its full of unicorns, like it is some fantasy or something impossible to achieve
@Nùria Malet your so right like she can’t ever get A break and it’s sad but relatable.
I love when people react to Luisa’s voice like this, it’s so wholesome. I absolutely love her voice, and her VA was such a perfect pick.
This is classic Lin-Manuel. And yes, his lyrics are unbelievable. Also, the vocalist who sings this is a very petite woman, but man, is she powerful!

"Give it to your sister and never wonder if the same pressure would've pulled you under" It's this line in particular that really sounds out to me. Yeah not just at home at work too🤪
This song validates something inside me that I don't know I needed validation of.
Even though I liked her before the song as well.
omg "waiting on a miracle"
my soul ascended when i first heard it
He iiissssss!! I love him
Completely agree.
Disney, I want something that ISN'T tiny, unrealistically thin, and other adjectives. I wanna see something that isn't my body type.
I mean, I wouldn't classify Louisa's figure or look as unfeminine. It's just not the figure of a traditional Disney heroine.
@@jamieculp8291 Yep, she definitely IS feminine enough. She wears skirts, dances and when she sits on the donkeycorn, she sits like a lady. Just because she is strong, doesn´t mean she has to be tomboy - that´s one of the things I like about her.
Not surprising considering they made Elsa and Anna wear makeup on 24/7 in frozen
This is a perfect description of that moment.

And her pouty face when she's sad
And then the DANCE MOVES!! I LOVE LUISA!!
Surface Pressure is so underrated, especially when compared to We Don't Talk About Bruno, so it's nice to see someone truly appreciate it for the very meaningful bop it is.
idk its MY fav.
To be honest, We don't talk about Bruno is probably my least favourite of the entire movie, which doesn't mean it's a bad song, but it just doesn't carry enough emotions with it, at least not for me.
i don't like we don't talk about bruno for
1. same reason you don't like it
2. overrated as hell
3. its good and i like some parts but the other parts arent my style
Bruno is a good song, but THIS is a masterpiece
It's always the emotional and meaningful song that we love more because we are able to relate to it so much
"See if she can handle every family burden " and "Give it to your sister and never wonder if the same pressure would have pulled you under" always get to me when I listen to this song. Favorite song from encanto. Hoping u react to more encanto songs :)
“I’m pretty sure I’m worthless if I can’t be of service” also hits hard. This whole song is brilliant.
Just reading this comment makes me tear up
@@justjaelen8435 aww
Same I was holding back tears during this song because well I was watching it with a family member and it'd be awkward for them to just stop and try to cheer me up lol.
@@TiredHumanBeing oh see i sobbbb in front of my family constantly lol they just look at me and go “ are you crying again?! Lol
This song broke me emotionally. Instant favorite song ❤️
Oh wow!!! Just checked her out and yea she did great!!!! Thanks for the recommend!!!
@@breannadaniel9119 of course! She is super talented and I always recommend her when I can :)
That's so sweet!! They sound like a great sibling!!!
Aw that’s so sweet i’m glad that you too have each other :)
Brush got the exact same favs as me
I’ve noticed a small detail, which idk if anyone else did already, but she’s like the living embodiment of Atlas from Greek mythology. He was given the burden to carry the literal weight of the world on his shoulders, and you see just for a few seconds in this song. You can come up with your interpretations to this, but it was something I’ve noticed and put together in my head.
Yeah, that came to my mind as well
Atlas has to carry the sky not the earth
@@themisia4870 Ohhh, I always thought it was the Earth. The name, and depictions of Atlas made me think that he held up the earth. You learn something new.
@@themisia4870 But then why is he always depicted in statues as carrying the Earth?
Jessica Darrow, Luisa's voice actor, did a jazz version of "Surface Pressure" and it is legit as good as (if not better than) this version!
I like this guy's reactions. He's totally honest and reliable. He's not like other reaction that just focus on the lyrics or the music. He sees it as a whole but he doesn't miss the details in the lyrics and arrangements. I agree in all his comments and perceptions. Going to follow him. kudos
Just what I was thinking
not to mention his happiness is very contagious. I thought this song was alright the first time I heard it, but now im on an Encanto reaction marathon, and his reaction by far hyped me up for this song. It's my favorite song now. I didn't even realize it related to me so much, as the eldest sister and sibling
As much as "We don't talk about Bruno" is good, "Surface Pressure" is definitely my favorite song. It's so meaningful and hits hard.
SAME HERE! 😍
Same
Disney told the animators to make her smaller...like a princess. They said it's her character, she has to be big and strong! ❤ Love this song. I'm crying every time o hear it.
Didney: we want cute and tiny!
Animator: LOL, nope.
I love how she's big and strong but sweet and kind, however ALWAYS powerful! ♥
i also love how despite her being very strong and muscular they still kept her feminine. like strong women are not always masculine and i love that the creators considered that
I love that they fought for Luisa's designed.
Luisa is an underrated character. I hope we get more of her in a sequel movie or TV series.
She’s the normal one, she’s supposed to be the easy one.”
I had a tearful conversation with my mum as an adult about the fact that I didn’t feel like I could rely on her while I was a teen because it felt like she didn’t care about me. She admitted to me that she had no energy or ability to deal with my (very normal) problems growing up after she was done dealing with my brothers (not as normal) problems. She was just done with it by the time I hit puberty and started having my own issues.
Same
as a rapper, you should react to encanto’s ‘the family madrigal’. the rapping/speed singing is so impressive. every syllable is so clear and the tempo is similar to ‘we don’t talk about bruno’
Yes I was impressed by that too. I was like "Okay, Maribel got flow" 😂.
i'm nearly 30 and as the first born daughter and eldest, I bawled listening to this song.
I'm glad this movie is getting all the attention it deserves. Encanto is hands down the best Disney movie in the past decade don't @ me.
The decade just started
@@PsychotiX1022 he said past decade though meaning 2010-2020
i’d argue that it’s the best one ever made!
This song is such a masterpiece; the lyrics, how they’re distributed in the cadence, the stylistic changes… it’s so amazing. And beautifully executed.
btw if you missed it, at 2:59 she as a ball on her shoulders which looks like a world, saying that she’s carrying the world on her shoulders
