Jay, I am a 66yo guy who sold audio in the 70s. I have been an audiophile for over 50 years. The reason I bought this unit is because of the HDMI connector to play my large SACD, .DSF files for both stereo and multi channel. It works great and is a great feature.
exactly why i am thinking about getting this. Re-ripping all my SACDs into multi-channel would be awesome. HDMI is what sets this apart since so many streamers can do stereo today.
@@markdecker2112be careful. If you are using the unit to rip music, it isn’t great. Everything else is excellent about it tho. I have 2 drives that won’t rip more than one album
So its basically to the input of an Oppo unit or AVR with multichannel analog inputs from a multichannel sacd player and then you can do 5.1 sacds and dolby or dts discs/files? I have a 7.1 multichannel hdmi dac and about 20 multichannel albums, but i sold off my center and surrounds, i'd be interested in doing going back to surround if the Eversolo has a library or an app with multichannel music/concerts. Otherwise i wouldn't do it for just my current multichannel collection.
There are also places where you can buy DSD files and that is probably the website native DSD and HD tracks. Higher DSD level than on an SACD Higher sampling frequency
I have an ever growing collection of vinyl. I have some 901 Bose (not crazy hi fi but huge sound stage) with a 100 watt tube amp. It doesn't get much better than that. Folks that haven't hear vinyl through a tube amp and some decent speakers have no idea what they are missing. Uncompressed through the whole chain. The music breaths. No other way to explain it. Beautiful !!! Great video I think for lots of folks this is perfect.
The issue is vinyl is mastered separately anymore, so you lose all the fidelity. More and more people are also buying remastered vinyls. Records haven't had a warmth sound to them no matter what equipment you use for decades. If you think you're hearing these things, it's 100% placebo, especially, not judging, but your age. Your ears get worse no matter how well you look after them.
I use a 11y.o., hand-me-down iMac with Audirvana and a seperate dac/preamp. Unmatched software and ease of use, 27” screen, equalizer module, unlimited storage/streaming capability, etc., etc., etc… I also have a Bluesound Node that is relegated to garage duty. (don’t care for it much)
As 70 yr old senior I do not need another screen. Not because I am incapable. I use MPDroid on my smart phone to control my streamer from my chair. It looks just like the screen you are showing, just far more convenient because it is in my hand. I don't want a screen several feet away that I can't see and distracts me from the warm glow of triodes. Yonge whipper snapper.
as a audiophile, and seller of audio i completly agree too with you ! well spoken. im just 33 but on the same line as you respectable man. what speakers do you have,if i freely may ask you :D?
I have a ME and R26 and I am more than happy. I don't think I will want to change this for a very long time. A lot more money may only bring small changes, not even necessarily better changes. 😊
I sold my gen2 Bluesound Node2i for $400 and used sales funds towards purchase of the Eversolo DMP-A6. Pound for pound value, build quality, screen, interface and app functionality was a no brainer. Plus out the box experience is super easy to use, great sound, and packed with features that would make justifying the bigger boys cost a second thought. Perfect no but this hit the sweet spot for majority of consumers that offers allot.
I did a long A/B test with Node 2i and an Audiolab streamer and the Audiolab bested it in almost every area. I then got a HifiRose and that keeps up with the Audiolab and beats it more than it loses in categories. I would like to compare the Eversolo vs the HifiRose 150b.
Thanks Jay ! the most informative review of this product i've seen so far ! Lots of bells and whistles on this unit. It would be great to see a stripped down version just a streamer with a screen, nothing else, which would be even more affordable.
The problem is just as with the Bluesound Node they know they’d have to slash the profit compared to what they can make on on an combination device. But I agree someone should release a dedicated more budget streamer, but I’m personally happy with my Wiim Mini and Pro.
Thanks for a great review. I really wanted to keep this unit. My unit was freezing up so had to return it. It is a good looking unit with excellent software. HOWEVER, I use an external DAC, the Gustard R26. As a stand alone streamer, I don't hear any upgrade in sound from my Wiim Pro to the DMP-A6. The real kicker for me, as mentioned in this review, is that the DMP-A6 does not have an EQ. The Wiim Pro does. I love the ability to adjust the sound to my taste. If the DMP-A6 adds an EQ to it's software, I think I will be picking one up again!
Good to know you hear no difference in audio quality when connecting to an external DAC, when compared to the Wiim Pro. I'm using a Wiim Pro connected to a Denafrips Ares II, but have been tempted by the DMP-A6's looks and it's ability to add in an m.2 SSD. However, it's so much more expensive than the Wiim Pro. For me, the main drawback of the Wiim Pro is lack of a USB connection to an external DAC, and lack of an additional USB port to be able to plug in a USB key.
Holoaudio Red would be a good comparison Jay…..dedicated “audio streaming” idea vs. “multi-function” (pre,DAC,streaming) ….at not too far off price differential between the units. Thank you for your hard work, which is valued by me.
@@EricRhodeslives So I assume you were using the same external DAC with both streamers? I've been wondering how much (if at all) a streamer can affect audio quality. Some people say it's just passing through bits, so it shouldn't have an effect on the audio at all.
Hello Jay from Charlotte NC, I received my Eversolo DMP-A6 a week ago and have been streaming all sorts of music to my Audio Research 5se reference preamp to the Zen Decware and out to Cornwall Fours + SVS subs. It was easy to set up. The screen is a breeze to use. It’s really a lot of fun with the whole world of music right at my fingertips within a couple of seconds. I just really love THIS ability over my Vinyl. Now, if this were a comparison video between this streamer and my nice Audio-Technical with high-end cartridge, there’s simply no comparison. The moment the diamond hits the groove it far exceeds the streamer in purest sound. Does that matter to me? Sort of, but there’s so much more the streamer offers me for exploring music and the sheer convenience I will definitely keep this it! I really do like it and it’s a great addition to my system. My suggestion to the most critical of music listeners out there is to take a chill pill and just go ahead and get this and enjoy the music! I continue to enjoy your videos. Thank you for your work Best, Mark
Well done. This is my first look at this unit. Thank you. A very clear and efficient presentation of broad and detailed perspective. The unit offers alot of flexibility and performance for the money. Encouraging.
I have a Mercury Streamer…that I use Volumio on…I use an I²S connection to my Pontus II DAC. I am reasonably happy for what I paid. Would love to hear you talk about comparative sound quality differences between streamers more than features. I am more curious about sound differences using hi-rez streaming as a source.
I think the A6 ME partners well with analogue sounding gear like the Denafrips Pontus 2 and Willsenton R8i , in this combo it just sounds just right without the brightness n all the smoothness , musicality , timing and life like stage. Great product.
I'd like to see a rundown of streamers at different price points just used as transports. From the Wiim up to the lowest end Auralic. See where the diminishing return is. I've got the ifi zen, but the software frequently disconnects Tidal after listening for a while. I'm running the ifi into an ares 2 to 2400mkii. I think my setup is a little too on the warm side.
Hi. Thank you very much for the video. Regarding the remote control, I would have something else. You can't get the Eversolo DMP A6 out of standby with your mobile phone. So you always have to turn it on at the device via the volume control. With the remote control, this can be done without having to go to the device.
Currently the remote control only offers a slight advantage. You can switch on the device from the sofa. I use the remote control more often myself. It's more convenient now and then.
I'll buy it too. It's the only streamer/dac which is great quality, Roon ready, supports Apple music and has HDMI output which can be used for multichannel DSD files.
So, I bought one and thought I had scored big-time. First listen was through Klipsch active R51PMs and R-12SW subwoofer. Nice. After a week I decided to compare it to my ifi Neo, also $800ish. I couldn't believe my ears at first. The Neo, streaming through my Moto Z, sounded crisper with better attack, better separation and more presence in the soundstage. I've gone back and forth with different genres of music and am bummed the Eversolo doesn't simply smoke the Neo. My main system is a Hegel H190 through Dali Oberon 9s with room treatment (absorbers, bass traps and 3d diffusers to come) I've partially installed. Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and what streamer/DAC beat the Eversolo?
Great Review Jay!!! - I bet that Solo A6 would be great with the speakers you designed!! We are still loving the Eversolo DMP-A6 in our camp! Huge bang for buck!! Very good review. You covered it all perfectly!! Cheers -
Thank you so much for the review Jay. I really like the functionality of this unit. The screen is great but I personally don't want to touch my streamer. I have two systems and I never touch either streamer so the touch screen means nothing to me. Yes, the VU meters are cool but I don't don't need to pay for "cool" in my system. The sound is what I am after and speaking of sound, I really appreciate your description of the sound especially between the two units. Nice review!
Another interesting video. Thanks. One more feature I like is the top USB connection can be used to rip CD’s. Helpful when something isn’t available on streaming. (I had decent luck with the ASUS ZenDrive Ultra Slim USB 2.0 External 8X DVD Optical Drive.)
Grear review. You have covered the comparison between normal and master edition well. They are also greta match for warm sounding set up. I have both. Thanks for making this video.
You can add a wireless keyboard using the USB 3.0. Aides in input. I use the HDMI as my first choice. Outputs in 192kHz on most inputs. Only use Stereo no 5.1 so no additional thoughts on HDMI. Like the screen? Try connecting an iPad with the Apple camera adapter, a power block and cable and a usb cable to your usb input on receiver etc. Not pretty looking with all the wire but you get High Res audio on the cheap with a nice video screen.
To be fair the Cambridge is a bit long in the tooth at this point. With Cambridge now offering some lower cost (no screens) streamers, I wonder if they'll discontinue the CXN V2 or come out with a V3 version having a larger screen and better DAC?
The CXN V2 was never a particularly good option, and neither are their new streamers. You can get equivalent sonic performance with a Wiim Mini and an SMSL SU-1 DAC for less than £200.
I've read from Vidoo that the Master (which is modified by an outside company) differs from the standard edition only in the DAC itself, not when used as a transport. When used as a transport, the units are identical.
Yeah This doesn't likely have an analog volume control like a good pre-amp would. However there are Streamer/DAC/Pre-amps out there like the Lumins and Auralic Altair/Vega models
Hi Jay. I've had the DMP-A6 (standard edition) for about 3 months now and I really like it. It's pretty versatile with a lot of functionality. I knew when buying it, that the internal DAC wasn't going to be my endgame DAC. My premonitions were right. It sounded a bit bright in my system so I bought the SMSL VMV D1SE that you, Goldensound and A british audiophile reviewed. Your assessments across the board were spot on, so kudos on that. I could not hear any difference between the DAC filters on the DMP-A6 unlike on the D1SE. They are very distinguishable as are the sound color modes you mentioned in that review. Anyway, I think that the DMP-A6 is good value for money. It’s a streamer, DAC, NAS, CD ripper and a radio based on an Android platform which allows for third party APPs (Unfortunately, I couldn’t get Radiooooo to work. It would have been cool to have the world map on the screen to navigate with.). As nothing is perfect, it does have its downsides besides those you mentioned. Like no hardware support for using some of the digital inputs while using an external DAC. I couldn’t run toslink from my TV to the DMP-A6 with my D1SE. Inputs coincide only with certain outputs. So I ran it through the D1SE. It’s no biggy, but still. There are also minor software glitches here and there. I just hope that they keep updating the firmware and software untill most of these issues are resolved. Reading through the forums, there are varying compatiblity issues regarding external DACs and CD drives and other various quirks, but for the most part it’s a good product and I’m not disappointed. It does what I need and does it pretty well. There will always be caveats when trying to make a pretty much an all-in-one device. Thanks for the sample rate tip. I had an inkling that it sounds better and you confirmed that. If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that MQA render only sounds best.
Thank you for the video. I was curious about this because I kept seeing this. I use headphones and sit at my desk when listening to music so I have no use for a streamer so this is good information for me. I also learned a lot by reading the comments.
I don't understand why anyone would want to use the screen interface on a streamer for other than the initial configuration, etc. For example, I use Tidal and want to be able to use the Tidal app on an iPhone or iPad to remotely select my music from my listening position. I realize that can be done with this product also, but then one is paying extra for a screen interface on the unit that they don't use. I personally use a iFi Zen Stream ($400), which also has an iPhone app for system configuration or for selecting music from a local server, USB stick, etc.
@@Jayiyagi I see the cover art on my iPhone or iPad. I wouldn't be able to see that small screen from my listening positioning anyway. If they made a version without the screen, at a lower price, they might get more sales. If cost is not a factor, then there is nothing wrong with the screen on the unit.
@@Mark-rw3kw I currently use the bluesound node as my streamer and I see the album art on my phone… it works good but I would actually pay more for a screen with the album art on it , bonus is the VU display. Some might not care for it like you but others will. I think it makes the look and feel of the product more high end then without…IMO
@@Jayiyagi Are the VU meters even close to being accurate? And are they functional if you're using an external DAC? I've seen some other reviewers saying the meters are pretty much for show only. Regardless of that, they do look pretty cool,
I prefer PC desktop ( i9 11900 and MSI z590 unify) for music streaming player to connect with amplifier rather than any hifi streamer player..... Sound good and value for money.....
Great review, thank you so much! I bought the Eversolo DMP-A6 standard edition and have been really pleased with it, absolutely shines with my B&W 804 D4 speakers. I figured that the improved components of the Master Edition would be irrelevant if adding an external DAC as I intend to, don't know if you agree? Would really appreciate it if you could review the Weiss DAC 204, especially with the DMP-A6 as streamer, which has also been getting much praise, but slightly confusing as there is also the odd not so good review.
I've got this setup and love it. Audio Physic Classic 25 Black Glass (pair) Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum III, Black Auralic Altair G1 Digital Audio Streamer Have to add a turntable, but I'm still on the fence... Will check this one out for a gift. I know someone who would love it.
Great review thank you. I've seen a few reviews of this unit now and most of the reviewers have either skipped over the HDMI output or not tested its functionality this would be a great connection direct to your AV processor to stream 5.1 PCM files and also 5.1 DSF files from a local hard drive has anyone tested this feature out??
I'm new to the audiophile sport and the Eversolo DMP-6 is cool and makes my modern rock and hip-hop hop, jump and sound fun / my only gripe is the lack of movement of the VU meters
Great review Jay... and I've seen them all! I've had the DMP since its release and love it. One feature you skipped was the ability to rip CD directly onto the internal or external hard drive. I recently did an A/B with my AresII and I prefered the DMP DAC. I used the coax output, but since you recommend the USB output, I'm going to try it to see if results differ. But the difference was dramatic with the coax. Now I will probably sell my standard and upgrade to ME due to this review! Then the AGDs!
Great job, I have heard several videos of people testing these none were as informative as yours, thanks. First video of yours I’ve seen. I have to subscribe!
The only reason I chose the Bluesound Node X was that it had an option for a phono input by using the wireless Bluesound Hub. Yes, wireless, not the best option. I would have gone with the Nad products but my Def Tech Demand 17’s don’t work well with class d amps. I wish these streamers had better options for phono inputs.
Can this DAC accomplish the work of a separate $2K DAC? because that is precisely the issue with this product in my system, I do not want to spend $900 USD for a streamer only when my system requires a $2K DAC to bring the source to the level. Or it only provides resolution enough for a $1K DAC? Thank you for the work on the video.
It’s on par with a $500-1000 DAC. You have to be realistic. This is a $860 product with a lot of functionality. It is already a great value and impressive that it can compete with a $1000 ish DAC but I don’t think it is on par with DACs you can get for $2000 in the market
Hi Jay, It looks like the Eversolo streamer is a comet swirling in the HiFi universe. But what about the TEAC NT-505-X. It does not have a fancy looking screen but some nice specs. And the pricepoint is around the Eversolo Master in The Netherlands. Love to hear your comment on that. Like your videos.
This unit and its performance to price ratio has really encouraged me go the separates route instead of trying to squeeze maximum value out of an all in one box in my next system, cant wait to get my hands on one. Also, in that an Atalante 5 review I see incoming....?? Excited for that!
Really nice unit indeed. I could see myself grabbing one of these as a streamer for now, since I have a PRE with XLR In OR the Digital ins. Great video, man! The work will pay off since there will be a LOT of people looking for the details that you decided to include here.
Thank you for another great review. I cannot agree more when you mention the matching part. The Master Edition really bring my warmer sounding 30+ years old bipolar speakers alive. Every music genre sounds more real with this streamer/DAC. I haven't dare to try it with the leaner, already brighter sounding CW IV yet since it is pairing with SET amp.
Everyone is buying it because its a decent streamer and it shows pretty pictures, the fact a Wiim Pro into an SMSL SU9-pro will sound better and save you a bunch doesn't hold a candle to some oled screens... especially if you can get VU meters displayed!
I’ve got two wiim pros and 1 BlueSound node and love them both. I use my phone or iPad with wiim so a screen is not needed and would be a gimmick for my use case but it looks nice. I do have a few usability quibbles with wiim functionality but they are minor.
I recently purchased the Eversolo DMP A6 from BB radio in Toronto where I also attended the Eversolo presentation. I am also looking at either the AudioLab 9000a or Cambridge Audio CXA 81 integrated amp.(By the way I am from Hamilton Ontario). I am having a difficult time deciding on speakers to match with these items. I am presently looking at the SVS ultra towers, SVS prime pinnacle or paradigm founder 80. What do you think? I am new to the entry level audiophile scene. My Budget is $10,000 or $8,500 CAD after the eversolo purchase. Would appreciate any help with matching the speakers.
it will ultimately depend on your taste. The best thing I can do is try and point you in the right direction. In my opinion, the svs ultra towers or paradigm speaker can potentially sound harsh on some tracks with the eversolo in the chain. Now if you balance it out with a warm sounding amp, it may work BUT I would highly suggest you to take a look at Arendal 1723 THX (th-cam.com/video/7c22mfsEDgs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0cFcsWYtWojWLSm0) or if you can stretch your budget (and you appreciate depth and width of the soundstage as well as impeccable imaging, while being warm/forgiving), I'd recommend the Rosso Certaldo (th-cam.com/video/NXceCnIccHU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bEKqhSNBJ8tcylSk)
Forgot to mention my room size is 12 feet by 16 feet. The speakers have to go on my long wall given room layout and furniture. Thank you very much for the quick response.
Excellent. Thank you very much for your opinion. I am checking out your review of the arendal 1723 right now. I think it might be the match for me because of the opinion that my room would be classified as a medium size room. I hope the AudioLab 9000A will make them sing for me.
Thank you for this review Mr. Jay. I am considering to get rid of my Jungson pre-amp, I think it is not good quality although it has Jeff Rowland volume control but keep the power amp of the Jungson. So, I feel like this will be a good option to run through my Tekton Pendragons and Denafrips Pontus thingy. Believe it or not I bought all this stuff based on your reviews. I am not joking. You truly great Hi-Fi equipment reviewer. I live in Thailand so I do not get this information. You do good job
Hi Jay, Can you confirm if the sonic difference between the Master and standard edition (in that the Master is more refined), is still evident if I purely use it as a streamer (bypassing all those DAC/Amplifier section). I will connect it with my DDC > Dac. However, I would pick the Master if it is still more refined even with working purely as a streamer. Thanks
Hi I have Audio Note ANJ LX speakers, and OTO SE.. will master edition of Eversolo match my system? I ask you because you are familiar with Audio Note gear, please help me with your views
This was helpful! Not many have compared it with the master's version. Of course, the new Volumio Primo would be a nice shootout. With in board and out board dacs. Didn't know if you had a Lumin U1 mini lying around? Would be a cool comparo, too. 🙏
A British site, Elite Audio have blind tested the A6 with the Primo, seven people I believe, and all seven unanimously chose the A6 as the better sounding unit.
I do have HiFi Rose RS520. What is really interesting, that software looks very similar, from the whole concept to menus, buttons, even filters are almost exactly the same....
@@Jayiyagi Thanks for the answer and for your effort in making so interesting videos. So Rose must have gone further with development, because they added some interesting features like the EQ you miss here. But more functions does not always mean, that it is better - I'm not using it because it worsens the overall sound quality. Still class D amplification and DSP software are the future to the point you'll have a possibility to correct everything and emulate every single amp :). let's appreciate the interesting times when we can play with audio equipment. Looking forward for more content.
Hows the rosetube work on the hifirose hdmi earc to tv and it has hirez video music pre selected to play or you can search any music video to I’m hirez ?
Great review Jay. Many of us stepped into streaming with the bluesound node. Using the node as a source into a good dac is probably how most people with a good system are using it. Can you do a review where you compare the node as a streamer only to the next level of streamers like eversolo or hifi rose? I would like to understand the benefits of spendng 2x or 3x the the price of the node. Thanks!
I can give you the order of sound quality... Blue sound node... Then the ever solo DMPA6... Then the Hi-Fi Rose units at the top of the food chain😊... With the ever solo DMP A6 The leader of the bang for the buck category.
So the first reason why it sells well is the low price. The second reason is the display. Maybe I’m old fashioned: I buy an audio component if it sounds great!
The master edition looks like a good deal for the extra money ,2000 or so CAD. Be hard to get that one with all the demand. Next version will likely have e-arc. Excellent breakdown bro! Thx 👍
Me and my buddy just compared the eversolo master edition and his d2 with a booster we both thought sound wise d2 was nicer but the eversolo app was much nicer than lumins
Thanks a lot for again an honest and thorough review. A comparison with HiFi Rose RS250a (although more expensive) & Cambridge CXNv2 (around same pricepoint?) would be very welcome. Much appreciated!
Excellent review. Quick question. I'm only going to use this as a streamer and SSD storage device. I will be using USB out to my integrated Hegal h190 as the dac. Do I need to buy the more expensive unit to make it sound the best?
Would love to see this compared to the orchard audio pecanpi+...the master edition is practically the same device so it would be a great comparison of how the chips were implemented
I have the Sonos Amp and honestly I'd prefer having the Eversolo DMP-A6 because the screen looks very convenient. Opening the Sonos app every time I wanna control my Sonos Amp is kinda annoying. It was a hand-me-down tho so I'm chillin.
My unit is on its way. Like you, I was sold on this unit after having watched other reviews and could plainly see that it ticked all the boxes for me in terms of features. I'm anxious to hook it up and give it a go. The best feature I was looking for was being able to install an NVME M.2 drive with my entire music library on it and getting bit perfect playback to my Denefrips DAC. 😁
Just an update...I've had this unit for 2 months now and loving it. I use it mainly as a music server. I run an external DAC and it sounds wonderful. Best of all, it provides bit-perfect playback, straight out of the box; something I've been struggling with when trying to use any computer running music software. I didn't have to go into settings and mess around. It just works! Very happy with this unit. It's going to be staying as part of my rig!
I'm still using a sonus connect... i was going to upgrade to bluesound then herd red rose at my dealer which was my next move... but this unit seems to be the ticket!!
Jay, when describing sound characteristics and suggested pairings, were you were using the internal DAC at that time? ...I'm wondering how these units sound with Digital OUT - as a streamer only. (I use a Holo Audio DAC that I love). How good do you think the internal switch mode power supply is? Volumio has a new streamer -- the RIVO. (streamer only @ $1,000) I"m curious how good that is.
The closest thing to an Eversolo DMP-A6 is probably the HiFi Rose RS250, but that is more than double the price although it has a bigger 8.8" screen. Initially, I thought HiFi Rose was a great bargain when compared to Aurender, but once Eversolo came out it pretty much took the crown. I am really thinking about it, but I am still not sure whether the Master Edition is worth it as I hate gold accents. The fact that it leans bright should match well with my slightly warm-sounding Dynaudio Evoke 50 speakers.
Unfortunately, I demoed the unit for 30 days. And had to send it back. It is not able to get the highest resolution from my chord Qutest DAC. DSD files were down converting to PCM. Nice unit and functionality however, not having the ability to play DSD files through my separate DAC was a deal breaker.
@davidhardaker192 thanks tried that too. I'm new to streaming but I understand that is supposedly packaging the DSD into a PCM delivery method but the Roon singal path still showed it downconverting to PCM. I have since picked up a used Melco N 100 for a little more than the Eversolo and it sounds great and immediately shows the correct signal path as DSD!
Hi there, Marlon from the Netherlands here. What's the difference in just digital out between the standard and master edition ? And the master compared to the Ifi Zen stream ?
differences I described in the sound section applies to just digital out as well. Ifi zen stream has far less features and functions than eversolo. So clear win for eversolo there. Sound wise, eversolo is brighter/more air/spacious/detailed Zen stream being warmer and richer sounding
@@Jayiyagi very clear. Thanx. I own a Zen stream into a RME adi-2 fs and a Galion SE. (Do you know that Thomas is the master when it comes to customer service ?!?.... eventhough you know him better than i do, i just want everybody to know. ) it's a joke but i mean it. I think i'll stick to my plan and safe up for a Rose 150B. Oh, please tell me the Rose 150 sounds clearly better across the board or at least from low to highs.
great vid Jay.i already own the master addition and ive got to agree with everything youve said. very accurate description . only question i would have liked you to answer in your opinion is is...many other reviews are saying that the solo could be compared to a 5 grand streamer , especially in sound quality. what would your view be on this ?
As you mentioned, I too really wish it had a gain control. The power amp I use sounds much sweeter when she heats up a bit, but using the amp with with the DMP-A6 doesn't allow that to happen.
I have certain components The sound much better warmed up as you mentioned... I use a thick terry cloth towel on top of them... So that they reach that proper operating temperature... Of course you must periodically check the temperature of the unit so that it doesn't overheat😊... That way all my components reach proper wonderful operating temperature and sounding their very best like you mentioned.... Also I turn on my audio rig at least 1 hour ahead of time before I do any serious listening... That way my system is at its very best when I am ready.
I would like a comparison of sound alone, between this unit and a more budget friendly unit like the new wiim pro plus (with the akm4493 dac chip) Its interesting to see will there be a sound quality difference and if so, whether it will be a big one
Were I to buy this, it wouldn't be for its streaming options, because I don't stream from Web sources. Instead, I store all my music on hard disc/SSD from ripped CDs. So the only real advantage for me would be as a laptop replacement, and then only if the unit offered better sound than my laptop does going through my separate DAC. I've asked this question on several platforms, but not so far received a clear cut answer. Does anyone use it (at least in part) in the way I would, and if so, how does its quality of sound compare to that being passed over USB from a pretty standard laptop? Is it significantly better, or just about the same? I'd be most grateful if anyone could answer me this.
It wasn't included in this review but today I tried the hard drive myself. The sound remains the same as I described even if you are using the hard drive. For me, the eversolo is certainly a step up from using a laptop (which I have for the longest time until I got into streamers) But also depending on the laptop, some laptops are quite good these days with no fans built in and good shielding.
@@Jayiyagi Thank you so much! 🙂 My laptop eventually results in what seems like good sound from my system (not that it couldn't be better, of course). I use my Dell Latitude E5470 with 4m Supra USB cable to my DAC. This laptop has an extremely quiet (i.e. inaudible) fan, though I haven't been able to ascertain how well its USB ports are shielded. But you know what? Now you've got me thinking. The DMP A-6 is quite expensive and TBH, ergonomically speaking, my laptop screen + thumbwheel mouse is great for track navigation. So maybe I could first investigate other, less expensive options to ensure the cleanest signal from laptop USB port to DAC -- e.g. some kind of reclocker/galvanic isolator. Or, something I could try right now: using my Douk audio XMOS XU208 DD convertor (cost me around £50 a couple of years back) and seeing whether using optical or coaxial rather than USB makes a worthwhile difference. Can't think why I haven't tried it before in my current setup, but I haven't. So many thanks for prompting me! 🙂
I have the exact same use case and the same question. The Eversolo would be a nice laptop replacement. Even if its Android 11-derived OS goes out of support, it can still work offline. The Hans Beekhuyzen Channel recommends a network bridge between laptop and DAC. I think he's a thorough reviewer as well, but I also think that only a real test vs the current setup at home can show the real effect in your situation. In my situation it's a laptop running foobar2000 feeding a RME ADI-2 DAC and I'm curious if an Eversolo would better the sound. And if so, enough to justify the investment.
@@colanitower Yes. he's an advocate of reclockers/galvanic isolators like the Isoregen too -- but I hadn't thought about a network bridge -- to be frank, I'm not sure what one is. Will look it up now -- might be worthwhile if not too expensive.
Any thoughts on which you prefe, in terms of SQ, when it comes to this or the Innuos Zen Mini and Power supply combo I believe you own or have extensive experience with?
I still ultimately prefer my innuos for a warmer/richer presentation BUT if I have an overly warm or like I said "want to add air on top," Eversolo is the better option for that. It comes down to the system I'm setting up
This unit is definitely intriguing and I would be using it as a streamer / transport only. I currently used a wiim pro and BlueSound node 2022 version as my streamers. I imagine this would be an improvement but I do love the functionality with wiiim and BlueSound with amazon streaming. Not sure this unit is a slight improvement or a significant step up over both? There is also the hifi rose 250 or 150 that is a higher price point over this.
I do not have the ability to get a hard wire to my Listening room. In your experience does the wi-fi give good listening experience and just an occasional drop off or does the sound quality suffer?? I have 5GH
Streamers are insanely priced .you can buy a roku top end streamer for less than 100 dollars and it works well These high end streamers often don't even have a screen.
669K views ... Holy shite ... =) .... I guess there is a really large audience for this kind of tech.. ( and set up guide ) Kudos man!! This is fantastic to see!

How would you compare the dac in the DMP - A6 to something like a topping D90?
I'm guessing people are buying it because it looks cool and word of mouth from people who really don't know what good audio sounds like.
@@samza9622 The fact is not everyone can afford hi end HiFi gear.
@@samza9622 have you heard it?

Jay, I am a 66yo guy who sold audio in the 70s. I have been an audiophile for over 50 years. The reason I bought this unit is because of the HDMI connector to play my large SACD, .DSF files for both stereo and multi channel. It works great and is a great feature.
exactly why i am thinking about getting this. Re-ripping all my SACDs into multi-channel would be awesome. HDMI is what sets this apart since so many streamers can do stereo today.
Same here.
@@nitronine27 There's still a massive library of music that was recorded in the 20th century though.
I’m slightly younger than you but I completely agree.
You don't have to use it. Switch it off and just use the App. Or switch on the screensaver/clock if you don't want to see it 🙂
as a audiophile, and seller of audio i completly agree too with you ! well spoken. im just 33 but on the same line as you respectable man. what speakers do you have,if i freely may ask you :D?
Once I saw Bay Bloor, I lost interest.
Standard DMP-A6 with Gustard R26 is a pretty amazing front end for the money. Very happy with this combo.
I am running the same combo and love it ❤ End game for this old audiophile 🎉
I have a ME and R26 and I am more than happy. I don't think I will want to change this for a very long time. A lot more money may only bring small changes, not even necessarily better changes. 😊
Same here. A6 Standard edition with R26 is a great combo. And please test out a good usb cable. That makes a difference. 👌
I have Gustard R26 but wondering which will be the best combo, is it DMP-A6 or Volumio Rivo. Has anyone tried both combos?
You can't not connect it with IIS-H unfortunately
this was a very good presentation and review! not many reviewers bother to explain digital in & out and how to connect it to the equipment. thanks.
How much better is the sound quality over the node please?
1.4 times better
Does this sound much better than node? Trying to weight up node v this, don't want to spend $ on a seperate dac so are using build in dacs in both?
@ratingsdad
At over 5 times the cost it should best the eversolo.
I have it and I love it. I use as an all-in-one pre-amp, streamer and DAC connected straight into my power amp.
How is it as a pre amp, I might buy it with that use in mind? Thanks!
@@damienakatubbyable My amp can do this too, use the iPad as a screen.
@@doifeellucky the Wiim is great i've got 2 of them. If they released a WIIm with a screen and no DAC , perfect ! It would be all i need.
It does have an EQ. Hard to find, though.
The DMP-A6 has an eq? Where? I couldn't find it
Good to know you hear no difference in audio quality when connecting to an external DAC, when compared to the Wiim Pro.

I had one before the Eversolo. The Red sounded veiled in comparison.
@@EricRhodeslives So I assume you were using the same external DAC with both streamers? I've been wondering how much (if at all) a streamer can affect audio quality. Some people say it's just passing through bits, so it shouldn't have an effect on the audio at all.
@@mattsev9134those people are wrong. Bits aren’t just bits.
@@mattsev9134 I have 2 streamers. Ifi Zen Stream and Magna Mono Ultra MkII They sound quite different.

Hello Jay from Charlotte NC,
I received my Eversolo DMP-A6 a week ago and have been streaming all sorts of music to my Audio Research 5se reference preamp to the Zen Decware and out to Cornwall Fours + SVS subs.
Thank you for your work
Best,
Mark
Nice system dude.
Well done. This is my first look at this unit. Thank you. A very clear and efficient presentation of broad and detailed perspective. The unit offers alot of flexibility and performance for the money. Encouraging.
Finally, somebody who is talking about how to connect it. Seems to me the best option would be to go analog to my Home Theater receiver.
Curious, why do you have iso-pucks under the A6, It's solid state? Vibration of the unit has no impact like on speakers, turntables, and tube amps.
Excellent video Jay... I have the standard edition DMP-A6 and was having a tough time hooking it up correctly. Your video made it so simple. Thanks
I bought the remote, but I don't understand why/or how that should be the case. Maybe an update in the future?
Cheers -
You can control the volume with the front dial... That is amazing🎉
Thanks for the thorough and organized review. I have been enjoying an Auralyc. G1.1. Much more money but sounds excellent.
Perfect timing, Jay! I've been curious about this streamer for quite a while. Ordered it after watching your video.
Hope you enjoy it!
I think it’s so damn good . A Cambridge audio cxn v2 killer easily
To be fair the Cambridge is a bit long in the tooth at this point. With Cambridge now offering some lower cost (no screens) streamers, I wonder if they'll discontinue the CXN V2 or come out with a V3 version having a larger screen and better DAC?
Is this the standard or Master edition?
The CXN V2 was never a particularly good option, and neither are their new streamers. You can get equivalent sonic performance with a Wiim Mini and an SMSL SU-1 DAC for less than £200.
whoever came up with this super simple product is a genius. hats off.
I've read from Vidoo that the Master (which is modified by an outside company) differs from the standard edition only in the DAC itself, not when used as a transport. When used as a transport, the units are identical.
They say the clock chip is better in the Master. But does it output to the digital outs or only to the internal DAC?
All 3 of those things are false.
All he wrote is right.
Jay. Nice review and tutorial.
I have found that bypassing the built in volume control using fixed volume improves the sonics performance.
naturally. Since you are using a seperate pre or built-in pre of an integrated amplifier
Yeah This doesn't likely have an analog volume control like a good pre-amp would. However there are Streamer/DAC/Pre-amps out there like the Lumins and Auralic Altair/Vega models
Have you tried skipping your separate pre-amp, and using the Eversolo direct to a power amp?
I personally use a iFi Zen Stream ($400), which also has an iPhone app for system configuration or for selecting music from a local server, USB stick, etc.
it is for the cover art and vu meter
@@Jayiyagi I see the cover art on my iPhone or iPad. I wouldn't be able to see that small screen from my listening positioning anyway. If they made a version without the screen, at a lower price, they might get more sales. If cost is not a factor, then there is nothing wrong with the screen on the unit.
@@Mark-rw3kw
I currently use the bluesound node as my streamer and I see the album art on my phone… it works good but I would actually pay more for a screen with the album art on it , bonus is the VU display. Some might not care for it like you but others will. I think it makes the look and feel of the product more high end then without…IMO
Why do you feel the need to understand what others want? The world doesn't revolve around your preferences for no screen. Have a smug day.

Why limit at 5.1? Does it support Dolby Atmos or Apple Spatial audio to a compatible ATMOS Receiver?
Then the AGDs!
brief 'review', had time where they instant swapping the devices and i had no disappointment whatsoever, even with 'lowest'
Great job, I have heard several videos of people testing these none were as informative as yours, thanks. First video of yours I’ve seen. I have to subscribe!
This is a good unit. What strikes me with it is that the dac out must be switched....parallel usage of internal and external dac is not possible!
If there was an analog input, you would need a phone stage between turntable and Eversolo. Especially for moving coil cartridges.
Of course, you can't get true analog sound wirelessly. Especially not when it makes the sound digital
It would be nice to compare digital outs of both A6's. And maybe compare with FiiO R7.
This is great, I would connect this to my Marantz 8805 and then out to my emotive amp to my La Scala's.
What would be the best connection? Well how would you connect it. Digital/analog? I would like to try b it.
@@Jayiyagiis it better than gustard r26 or ladder shumann
Separates? It only lacks a power amp! 😄
Why would you buy this if you want separates? This combines streamer, dac, and preamp.
I haven't dare to try it with the leaner, already brighter sounding CW IV yet since it is pairing with SET amp.
tbh for normal ears any combo would sound great, just can be optimal
I would like it as just a streamer, hope they come out with that version.
Don't use the analog output. Problem solved.
@@chebrubin Pay more money for features you don't need. Problem not solved.
@@mattsev9134note that the HiFi Rose 130 is MORE expensive than the 150B. Now we are back to problem being solved.
For a pure streamer I believe it would be more sensible to select a DAP with streaming capabilities
Agree ! I love the screen though! A streamer with screen no DAC pr any other extras would be all I need !
Everyone is buying it because its a decent streamer and it shows pretty pictures, the fact a Wiim Pro into an SMSL SU9-pro will sound better and save you a bunch doesn't hold a candle to some oled screens... especially if you can get VU meters displayed!
Imagine people enjoying listening to music the way they want on the gear they want. 🫠
Can I purchase the Arendal 1723 or Rosso Cetaldo near Toronto Ontario?
Arendal has a 60 day risk free in-home trial. And rosso, you will have to contact them to see where you can demo
Hi Jay,
Can you confirm if the sonic difference between the Master and standard edition (in that the Master is more refined), is still evident if I purely use it as a streamer (bypassing all those DAC/Amplifier section).
Anyone with opinions?
This was helpful! Not many have compared it with the master's version. Of course, the new Volumio Primo would be a nice shootout. With in board and out board dacs. Didn't know if you had a Lumin U1 mini lying around? Would be a cool comparo, too. 🙏
A British site, Elite Audio have blind tested the A6 with the Primo, seven people I believe, and all seven unanimously chose the A6 as the better sounding unit.
Great review! Can you compare to Bluesound Node X please? Keep producing the great content Jay.👍
I do have HiFi Rose RS520. What is really interesting, that software looks very similar, from the whole concept to menus, buttons, even filters are almost exactly the same....
yea... rumor has it that Zidoo (the parent company of Eversolo) was doing OEM for HiFi Rose before. But... not confirmed
@@mechdude1can hifi rose stream Apple Music natively ?
Dac is definately bright and harsh. I have to switch to dac with tube preamp. Transport part is kind of same
You are right. It will be if you have it with brighter gear/speakers
So the first reason why it sells well is the low price. The second reason is the display. Maybe I’m old fashioned: I buy an audio component if it sounds great!
Ohh boy those speakers in the background! Looking at the little brother! Beautiful speakers.
Love their Revival Audio Towers as well. Massive Sound stage ❤❤
The master edition looks like a good deal for the extra money ,2000 or so CAD. Be hard to get that one with all the demand. Next version will likely have e-arc.
Excellent breakdown bro! Thx 👍

I think in terms of sound it is interesting to compare the Master Edition to the Lumin D2 and the Auralic Altair G1.1
Me and my buddy just compared the eversolo master edition and his d2 with a booster we both thought sound wise d2 was nicer but the eversolo app was much nicer than lumins
@@timtanner8658 thank you so much for sharing your experience
@@timtanner8658 What is a booster?
I auditioned the Eversolo against the Altair g1.1 back to back and found the Altair to have a wider soundstage and fuller bass.
@@jon8888888 Great to hear. I have a Altair G2.1 and I was starting to wonder if this was a "giant killer"
Hey @Jayiyagi Is the Masters Edition worth it if you are using external DACs?
No
Thanks a lot for again an honest and thorough review.
No
Would love to see this compared to the orchard audio pecanpi+...the master edition is practically the same device so it would be a great comparison of how the chips were implemented
Jay great review thanks I have been looking to buy a streamer/Dac for a wile I like this one and it’s a great price thank you
We don't need a screen .. we don't need a built-in DAC .. I'm kinda fed-up with all these expensive streamers we find these days ..
So what do you use that is better? Keen to hear after your comment.
@@hiluxjase6665I’m using the Technics SU-G700M2. The internal DAC is fantastic. Everything in my system uses it.
(streamer only @ $1,000)
I"m curious how good that is.
How can it take the crown if you have never heard it?
Can hifirose stream Apple Music natively like the A6?
Unfortunately, I demoed the unit for 30 days. And had to send it back. It is not able to get the highest resolution from my chord Qutest DAC. DSD files were down converting to PCM. Nice unit and functionality however, not having the ability to play DSD files through my separate DAC was a deal breaker.
I think you can select DSD direct or over PCM ( Dop)
@davidhardaker192 thanks tried that too. I'm new to streaming but I understand that is supposedly packaging the DSD into a PCM delivery method but the Roon singal path still showed it downconverting to PCM. I have since picked up a used Melco N 100 for a little more than the Eversolo and it sounds great and immediately shows the correct signal path as DSD!
Hi there,
Marlon from the Netherlands here.
What's the difference in just digital out between the standard and master edition ?
And the master compared to the Ifi Zen stream ?
differences I described in the sound section applies to just digital out as well.
Ifi zen stream has far less features and functions than eversolo. So clear win for eversolo there. Sound wise, eversolo is brighter/more air/spacious/detailed
Zen stream being warmer and richer sounding
Good review- saying a wide screen is hard to use is a bit of a stretch tho
it certainly may be a "stretch"
sorry. I had to
Good one
When I asked the company whether the HDMI port can be used to stream music to an AVR, the answer was YES.
Ahh, that means you can upscale the audio to more channels, although it is always a hit or miss. Sometimes, it is just awesome, though.
Does it have CEC control?
I would like a comparison of sound alone, between this unit and a more budget friendly unit like the new wiim pro plus (with the akm4493 dac chip)
Its interesting to see will there be a sound quality difference and if so, whether it will be a big one
I second that. Maybe also running the wiim pro (plus) digital out into an external dac
What’s this best internet in Canada you got? Your video and presentation of products/reviews are top notch 😊
Would love to see a review between the DMP-A6 and the denon dnp2000ne
I have Bose Sound Touch Amplifier SA-5, a Wi-Fi based one. Instruct me how to connect Ever Solo DMP A6 ? Thank you very much. 23:50
My laptop eventually results in what seems like good sound from my system (not that it couldn't be better, of course).
There is also the hifi rose 250 or 150 that is a higher price point over this.
be cool if his mouth matched the audio
as stated depends, it can be not worth depending whether one value the upgrades or not
can opt for m17 and c9 for ex and hear no difference, w 1/3 price
This thing is beautiful! Hhhhmmm maybe later on in my Hi-Fi journey! Awesome video! 🫰🏻
I do not have the ability to get a hard wire to my Listening room. In your experience does the wi-fi give good listening experience and just an occasional drop off or does the sound quality suffer?? I have 5GH
Im not buying it because i don't need it plus i can't afford it.

Ok
Same here home audio is to expensive for me.still have my carver 1090 integrated amplifier and bsr EQ it works for me
Streamers are insanely priced .you can buy a roku top end streamer for less than 100 dollars and it works well
These high end streamers often don't even have a screen.
These things lose on value faster than phones

.... I guess there is a really large audience for this kind of tech.. ( and set up guide )
Kudos man!! This is fantastic to see!
Im surprised you preferred the internal oversampling of the unit - would you oversample before sending it to an external dac as well?
You didn't review it as a transport only with external dac... how does it compare soundwise as a transport only with zen stream?
the Zen Stream is warm and "sweet", with a nice full mid range. I really like it. (using upgraded power supply)
