DMP-A6 owner here. Overall this is a fair review for your main audience looking for the best sound for as little buck as possible. You made some good points that are certainly well worth consideration in that sector. However, I respectfully don't think this is the target market that Eversolo is going for. Where this product utterly excels is as a streamer into a higher end dac. It scales superbly well in that regard and, as other reviews have mentioned, it sonically beats much higher priced competition in that use case. I also think the majority of owners will be two channel folk like myself, even if using DSD, so the HDMI multichannel thing is not a box we feel the need to tick. Furthermore, I suspect this is likely the first in a line of streamers from Eversolo, so more feature rich inputs and indeed outputs will probably follow. In my own situation, however, I dont think I've ever been more impressed with a value proposition in almost 40 years in this hobby.
I agree with your comment. This unit is not meant for tv use. It’s sole purpose is audio listening, as you can gather by the HDMI out out for DSD, and not for watching movies. I believe audiophiles or budding audiophiles like the 6inch screen because of the album art. That’s part of the whole experience, same with the UV meters…old school. I have a Cambridge cxv2 steamer I like the sound, the screen could have been better but it adds to the experience. In my living room I have the Bluesound node v2, sound is good but, visually it stinks. Ultimately to each their own, but this unit is for music lovers.
@@TheRusk123 all that I suggest is buying what's right for you. If the DAC in the A6 isn't sufficient for your needs, then I think it's better to look at other options rather than buying an A6 + DAC.
As an owner of the WiiM Pro, Mini, Bluesound Node 2021 version, Geshelli labs J2 AKM. ETC. Eversolo DMP-A6. Eversolo wins in so many categories. I get it, If you are strapped for cash then WiiM is definitely fine. But no mistake about it, the DMP A6 is a much better all around device with a greater feature set and better build quality that you will have to pay for. Especially considering the nearest comparable competitor the hi-Fi rose is so much more expensive. The DMP-A6 is a great value in its own right for the feature set that you are paying for in my opinion. I do like and actively use both daily though. WiiM had some Roon bugs initially as well, but seems to have been corrected. You can’t go wrong with either.
If sound best sound quality is key, would when then use the Eversolo or the wiim pro paired withe the J2 DAC? I have a Bluesound Node N130 and I dont know if I should go with the wiim+j2 or the Eversolo. Sound is more important for me than gadgets.
What? Rip CDs that's awesome, but no Amazon Music. Have the Node first gen and second gen. My first gen Vault was a lemon. Undecided about to upgrade or not. No dsd yet on bluos . Always something missing in the chain.
I’ve had the Eversolo DMP-A6 for about a month now and love it! I like having the screen than not having one, especially one that looks this good. I compared it to the bluesond node 3 I already had, the Eversolo sounded much better. Also, compared it to the WiiM pro connected to Schiit modi, once again the Eversolo easily sounded better. I use Qobuz mostly, but really like having Apple music natively on the Eversolo that plays hi-res, instead of using airplay. Eversolo should have included the $12 remote in the box is the only con for me.
I had a Wiim Pro Plus going into a Schiit Modi+ first. Once I got the DMP-A6, I moved the Wiim to my office and use the A6 on my living room system. I like the sound of the built in dac on the A6 better and use it for my CD player also. (CD player to the coax in on the A6). I ripped all of my CDs to a 2TB drive on the A6 using a $35 USB CD drive. Worked great.
I’m using Amazon music on the DMP-A6 without any problems. It came on it straight out of the box. 🤷🏻♂️… the eARC is a missing link indeed. But the over all quality is way better than lots of more expensive streamers I know. I was waiting long time for a streamer like that. Display, connectivity and sound quality are way above average. The reaction time of the touch display is without any delay. Another cool thing is that you have that cast mode which mirrors display on the Eversolo with the cell phone display. Handling that thing works intuitive. But what I like the most is that you don’t necessarily need to use you’re cell phone to use it. I bought the remote for $15 and have the display… that’s all I need. A wonderful stand alone streaming dac with only that one missing eARC connection that I can deal without.
I only got into streaming music into my main system with a Wiim Pro 9 months ago thanks to CAM. Had that running to a Topping DAC and into my main rig. It was nice and a little better sound quality than I expected. The option for plugging in a 2 or 4TB SSD directly into the EverSolo (i have a huge Hi-area music catalog), along with its build quality, looks, and early reviews got me to bite. Quickly downloaded the Amazon Music app (a little sluggish at times, but easy to use with the EverSolo app Cast feature on my phone) and WOW! Significantly better sound than the Wiim Pro. Much better bass extension, less harsh on the top. Might an EverSolo DNP-A6 using the Geshelli Labs J2 sound better? It might, but I’m trying to finish a separated system and will have to wait. The bottom line is everything I have played on Amazon Music thru the EverSolo so far has been at 192kHz and sounded phenomenal. I honestly never thought streaming could sound this good, and I am enjoying music more than ever, a lot more often. Isn’t that what it’s all about?
I’m brand new to streaming, and have the eversolo, firstly it sounds pretty dang good with Spotify, and tidal… still learning… what I do like with the screen is that I can SEE the other choices listed on the screen and I can walk away and it plays music for me…I listen to real jazz, fusion , classical, traditional rock and it’s so nice to let the service pick out music I’ve never heard before!
I think there is a software opportunity for WiiM to provide a way to dedicate an old tablet or phone as a “permanent” touch display interface for their products and then compete with built-in display products like the Eversolo at a fraction of the cost.
Hi Randy! I got the Eversolo like 2 weeks ago. Very pleased with the unit currently. It came with Amazon music native play just out of the box. An it does it flawlessly 😊 Note: Maybe you just have to update your unit...
It's in the Cast portion of the Eversolo App, sideloaded like Apple Music is. Amazon was scheduled to be natively installed soon, but rumors are that they've found it too difficult to do so.
The Amazon app works really well. It was pre-installed on my Eversolo DMP-A6 which I got with firmware version 1.1.75 two weeks ago. Now updated to version 1.1.80. Awesome awesome device for the price.
@@jackdelarosa6036 unfortunately I find this video extremely biased. He was probably mad at EverSolo for not sending him an unit to review. I’m done with him, removed my inscription on his channel. So sad.
Great review..yup..operating simplicity and sound .. I went with the Wiim Pro and a Topping E50 DAC ( for all my digital audio decoding) 😎 Great review 👍 Have a great weekend 👍☕️🍕🥓🔥
I don't know why we don't have a product that is ONLY a streamer with a screen. They always have to attach a DAC or something that elevates the cost. I will buy something like a DMP A6 without the DACs inside without thinking about it. I only want to see the album art on the screen, nothing else haha
Yes, even at this late date, DACs keep changing and the bang for your bucks is a moving target. Why get saddled with something (and pay extra for it) that you won't be using 5 years from now?
@@rosswarren436 Even don't use a screen LCD that is touch as the DMP, only give me the album art + codec + sample rate as the Wiim shows you in their app. I don't know why is so difficult to do that 🤣
@@D1N02 don't want to be tied to my %^&* cell phone 24/7. Would rather see it all displayed nicely on a screen in my rack. And no, I don't want to use my iPAD and be constantly plugging and unplugging it in to use as a larger display. Not very elegant. About the same level as a Frankenstein Raspberry Pi running Volumio.
On my unit that I just returned, only the internal streamer could be routed to the digital outputs (and then to an external DAC), but the digital inputs on the back could only be routed to the analog outputs (through the internal DAC).
If you were planning to use the Eversolo only as a streamer why were you connecting other devices to the Eversolo’s inputs? Why not connect them directly to your external DAC? Am I missing something ?
Hey Randy, I got my Eversolo a few weeks back. I did a firmware update and then installed the Amazon music app without issues. Im playing music at ultra hi and Atmos and it sounds great!
Agree….Likewise I just got an Eversolo DMP-A6 last week and I can confirm as well that Amazon Music app is installed and plays Hi-Res lossless superbly. I haven’t seen any replies from Cheapaudioman acknowledging the various comments and correcting the misinformation about Amazon Music which could be easily explained and understandable if his unit may had not being updated with the latest firmware . Many people here have expressed their disappointment about hearing in the review that the Eversolo did not support Amazon Music so hopefully Cheapaudioman will publish an updated review with the correction.…..
It does have an SSD slot on the bottom that you can rip cd’s directly to. I’ve had mine for a while now and am pleased with its functionality. You do pay a premium for the screen but compared to a Rose audio it’s quite a bit less expensive.
I just tested the DMP A6 against my Node N130 . The Eversolo kicked the ass out of the Node. Much fuller sound and much bigger sound stage. Lots more detail and crisp. I love my Node but the Solo sure is much better. I used the internal DAC on both.
I 100% agree, without the HDMI input EARC it's a pass for me. I had believed the Eversolo had an EARC input and bummed it doesn't. Thanks for the review!
Thanks, I have watched many videos on the Eversolo and no-one else mentioned the Amazon streaming issue? Using the Bluesound Nodi for years and very happy except small issues, In fact I have (3) Nodi units with (3) separate systems that I can play together if needed. NICE feature.
Thanks for the great review and much explanation … I have watch more than 30 videos on Eversolo a6 but never come across such an in-depth mostly using it with a receiver … Now that I know it can be connected to a receiver more like my home theater setup it’s about time to finally make a purchase .. Thank you Sir
HDMI hit or miss? You missed this Randy. So many of us with terabytes of multichannel files have been looking for an upgrade to our ageing Oppo surround playback. Finally a device that does multichannel DSD. Hallelujah.
I think it’s great for the folks that can use it. My comment was that this feature is good for some people but not most people. If it had this and a hdmi e arc input it would be the best of both worlds
@@cheapaudioman Ya your right, that would be the best of both worlds. There never seems to be the “perfect “ product that does it all but this one is a super sweet piece of gear. Love the touch display and dual sabre chips. I was looking forward to your review of this. Thanks CAM !🤟
@@cheapaudioman Which is what most people that would be buying this use case would be, you not only missed the boat. But can't see the forest for the tree's. LOL
@@cheapaudioman Would you prefer the streamer to have HDMI e ARC or I2S output? The Fiio R7 you were alluding doesn’t have I2S. There is a iFi Neo Stream and a Pi2AES that do. Both under $900.
I don't think not having inputs on the Eversolo is as big. Someone spending $900 on a streamer probably has a higher end pre-amp/phono stage. :) Also you mention how Amazon music has multi channel music but then complain that the Eversolo has an HDMI support for this. Once again, someone spending $900 on a streamer probably isn't looking to eARC this to a TV. Just my $0.02
In my case, the fact that the Solo doesn't have phono inputs is kind of a deal breaker for me. I would love to run my 50th edition P3 turntable through it and make use of its DAC. The Wiim Pro looks to be a win in this case, but man that display sure is nice, on the Solo. I suppose I could just run my turntable straight into my SX-1080 for the real "feel" of vinyl. Decisions, decisions...lol.
Randy, why did you call this video “All show and no go?” when you know full well even from your own experience that’s far from being the case? Click bait? Mate, you don’t need that…
Just upgraded my DMP-A6 master edition with this a teddy pardo outboard linear power supply. No more brightness, more bass weight. Strongly recommend it.
If I was buying a streamer of this price range today, it would be the Eversolo, because it supports Apple Music natively. I’m not an Apple fan (by any means), but they do present the best value in the Apple Music here in Portugal (cheaper than Spotify, with access to lossless, HiRes and Atmos). Amazon doesn’t have the music service here, so it isn’t an option, and Tidal will charge almost the double than Apple Music to get HiRes and Atmos. Apple Music is still lacking a “Connect” feature like Spotify and Tidal, probably because they’re pushing to sell their own hardware (I only have the iPad and Apple TV, the later mainly for Atmos music content). So as much as I don’t like Apple as a company (in the way they always try to tie all their customers hands), as a music service is (in my view) the most interesting one over here (I’m leaving Spotify premium after years due to the lack of innovation, charging more for lossy music in their premium tie than Apple for lossless and Atmos). In my view, the Eversolo looks good, and while the display is a nice touch, the main reason that I’d be tempted to buy one is the Apple Music (bitperfect) integration. I do expect other brands to take notice of the DMP 6 success and do their job at making other options. I would easily let go of the screen and other features (such as balanced outputs and even TOTL dac if they could implement Apple Music lossless in the streamer, since both Airplay and Chromecast have their own disadvantages. But I do have to admit that while this Eversolo isn’t inexpensive, it does put a lot of (much) more expensive audiophile products to shame on how it looks and performs. Until Apple launches some kind of “Connect” feature (which I don’t expect them to do until they can avoid it…), manufacturers have an opportunity to explore that market, and while Tidal is the most well known lossless streaming platform, Apple is the company that launched iTunes all that time ago…
I thought a big advantage of the HDMI output is to use a TV as a big display for album art & tracklistings controllable via the remote control. Or can you just cast the display to a TV? Agree it really needs an input though - plus a 12v output for the amp (bc barely any amps have the totally essential signal detection feature aargghhh!). Lol
Well done Randy. Needed to hear your take and I did. Very celebrated product. Yet still good be able to assemble options at better pricing points. All the best.
WIIM PRO drives me nuts there are constant updates which fixes certain problems but sometimes causes problems with other functions and then you have to report it and wait to get a fix. It's a great device for $150 but it's a bit frustrating. I bought it when it was first released mainly for the Parametric EQ which still isnt a feature since it was released but it was sold as a feature.
Really? I use mine daily without issues. But, one thing I did discover is that the WiiM Pro requires the correct power supply, especially if you are running off an ethernet network connection. I use a few LHY Linear power supplies, they really took the WiiM Pro up a few notches in SQ. BUT! As soon as I plugged in my network, the issues were ugly and frustrating... The solution. My LHY 5v units are 1.4 amps. the WiiM Pro requires 5v 2.0 amps to work properly. So, I had an old ifi 5v 2.5 amp power supply here, still $69 on Amazon, that solved the glitches I was having with the WiiM Pro, and there was no discernible loss in SQ to my ear. Check your power supply?
Superb review. I like when the negatives are explained as well as the positives. (The latter turns too easily into a commercial, intentional or not, for the product.)
WiiM plus J2 or Modi for the win. If I want to see the album art, I can look at it on my phone in my hand rather than through a small screen from across the room. The art is already pulled up when controlling the streaming apps from my phone.
I have both. I’m using WiiM Pro going into J2 Akm Dac into a Ladder Bach preamp. Eversolo is going into a Yamaha A-S2200. Both are great in their own regard. With the Eversolo you are paying for an all around integrated solution.
My first streamer ever…I bought the eversolo for the build quality n the screen as well! and thought the price was reasonable compared to the bluesound…could you add/use a hdmi converter with an input? Or would that kill the sound? Btw after 30 years of entry level gear, I just spent around $10k in an attempt to build a real system with an Oppo 205, modded rotel cdp, van alstine m225 monoblocks, and AVA fet tube pre plus $$$ NOS tubes, hi end straightwire cables to run my Vandersteen 2ce speakers. Am I happy? Yes more or less…I went the cheap audio route and had “ok” sound… But, Randy let’s be honest… what do you listen to at home? Lol Obviously you have the benefit of auditioning a ton of gear and can cherry pick the good stuff, I have 7 pairs of speakers at home , did diy speakers and tube kits and at 66 years of age want to enjoy proper detail and realism that $2-3k amps and preamps provide…Sorry after experiencing 200wpc there’s no going back to 60, and I’m sure you’ll agree that the “sound” benefits are at all volume levels… I’m like you as well and love a great deal, my old Vandy 2ce NEVER sounded this good…Oh and the right fancy speaker cables and interconnects DO make a difference . FYI I love your channel! Lol
Are you at a point now, where you hear the difference between 18awg & 14awg IEC Cords and Direct AC vs Power Conditioners? Would the next step be running our gear at 240V?
If you want album art display, set up a Raspberry Pi 4 with the 7" touch screen, run either RoPieee or Volumio, and run a USB to the DAC/Amp of your choice. The Pi will run about $200, and spend the rest of your budget on your DAC/Amp. And if you want to upgrade your DAC, just plug in a new one. With a $1000 budget, you've got $800 left for the DAC with the sound YOU like.
I love my Wiim pro, but honestly I’d take the Eversolo over it and, in fact, will be getting one when I move my current system to the bedroom and put together a new main system. Kef R3 Meta, maybe a Schiit Freya+ and two Vidar’s, likely an SVS sub or similar, and a Project turntable. I use Roon with Qobuz and can EQ through that.
I bought a new DMP A6 a little over a month ago. Pros - it's very well built and feels solid, the screen is awesome and I love the display. Cons - the wifi antenna strength seems weak compared to my old Bluesound Node 2i. The Node was always rock solid and never had drop outs. I've had multiple drop outs on the DMP. Also, the TuneIn integration with DMP is hot garbage. You have to cast from your phone and it's just a terrible interface. Whereas the Node has a flawless, easy to use interface with TuneIn. Sonically I agree with you cheapaudioman. The built-in DAC can be a bit tilted up on the DMP. I ended up running a coax out to my favorite DAC. To be fair, I never really loved the on-board DAC on the Node or other streamers I've heard either - so maybe that's not a big deal. Do I love the DMP? No. Do I like it? Yes, but I may not keep it due to the drop outs. I can forgive the HDMI, the missing Amazon music, the built in DAC, etc. But if it can't hold a wifi connection with all those big honking antenna's out back, I may ditch it. God, I love the screen and I'm a sucker for VU meters....Bluesound - WHERE ARE YOU?! Build me a streamer with VU's and I will line-up to buy it!!!!
I have had this for a few months and have an ifi stream and Node. The Node is very versatile, has a great app but the dac is not that great just adequate. The Stream has a better sound than the Node but is not as versatile. The Eversolo is as versatile as the Node, has a great app and sounds as good as a streamer as the Stream with the same DAC. For me it is the best value all in one streamer DAC preamp under $1000 and most above that price point too.
Why buy this amazing device and then limit it by using WiFi? Makes no sense. Wired all the way!!! Being in IT I can state without a doubt that most people into audio are lost with how to achieve a high performance network wirelessly especially when most are using user grade commodity hardware. Just wire it and walk away.
Both the Node and the Eversolo need EQ like the wim pro has for room correction. Proper analog inputs is a plus for HT preouts also. Maybe the next models could include these things....?
Thanks for the helpful review Randy! I like your sentiment that it's streamer with a really powerful dac or a dac with a really powerful streamer. Reminds me of "you got chocolate on my p-nut butter - you got p-nut butter on my chocolate". Good food for thought either way! The screen would come in useful for the times when you want to see what's playing and your phone is not nearby. I just may return a new Wiim Pro from Prime Day and save my pennies for the DMP A6 (or FiiO R7)? My current integrated amp has the older ESS Sabre ES9018K2M chip. Unsure if my old ears will hear the difference with the twin ES9038Q2M chips in the DMP A6 (steaming from the very old Chrome Audio hockey puck shaped streamer.)
A very flawed review and comparison vs. other streamers. I was surprised to hear you say that the Eversolo DMP-A6 does not have an app built in for Amazon Music. It does!!! I purchased and received an Eversolo DMP-A6 just last week so still getting familiar with it but I have the apps I subscribed to (Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify) up and running except for SoundCloud which I could not find an app for. So… Amazon Music just like Spotify and Apple Music were available in the Apps menu during setup so no problem getting it installed on the device and I get Hi-Res lossless music (so far up to 192 kHz) out of both Amazon Music and Apple Music streams (not all tracks ofcourse). By the way my Eversolo DMP-A6 arrived with the latest firmware version 1.75 installed so check your firmware to make sure you have the latest !!!!
Completly agree with the amazon music. After tinkering with various RPI distributions I am over the moon with the Wiim thanks to the Amazon Music capability and how well it works
I think the target customer for this product is someone who has a (what I would consider high end) mature multi-channel setup and they want to add streaming, possibly even to a receiver/processor with stereo balanced inputs. Now they can "upgrade" their 2-channel audio using the DAC for their cd playback, while adding stereo and multi-channel streaming. Now they have let's say 3-4 boxes, a receiver (or surround processor and amp), their (probably universal type) disc player and DMP-A6. I agree that if one or more of these functions are not utilized, or you're building a brand new system and rack space is not limited, the value proposition isn't there unless you really want the big shiny screen, which is cool, I guess.
Unless desktop use, why the screen I wonder. I love the Zen Stream/DAC stack I had but traded for Klipsch kg4 speakers because I now use minicomputer to DAC to stream to speaker systems. I hung a TV and control via wireless keyboard, and I can enjoy music video via HDMI now too. The BeeLink mini-PC runs Windows11 so it's a full function computer networked to my other home computers. Plus, one mini-PC and SMSL-C100 DACs setup goes for under $500 for everything, including keyboard. I have one setup in 2.1 room and one in home theater room. Love your videos. Thanks!
Why has everyone forgotten the Wiim Mini? It has the same DAC and internals as the Pro. And the same sound as the Pro, which I think is very good thanks to the TI BB DAC in both of them. I sent the Wiim Pro Plus back because the AKM DAC didn’t sound as good to me. The only reason to get a pro instead of a Mini is because you need the extra inputs and outputs, and Chrome-cast? Or Ruun? Especially if you’re going to plug it into an external DAC, the optical output of the Wiim Mini is just as solid as the Pro, and it has an auxiliary input too. Has everyone drunk the cool-aid? Core i7 > core i3. TI BB > AKM > Wolfsen > Analog Devices > Cirrus Logic > Sabre . How it’s implemented doesn’t change the tonality of the DAC enough to make, for example, a Sabre DAC sound better than, well, anything else. The preamp section doesn’t either! Anymore than an Intel Atom will ever appear to run better than an Intel core i7.
Having bought the Eversolo, it has one big advantage- the screen. In my case, I can have wifi dropouts in the man cave - with the Wiim, you can’t operate it without the app, so when wifi drops out, the Wiim is useless, but I can still operate the Eversolo when the app drops out.
I was really considering the Eversolo DMP A6 but I've allready got a Bluesound Node and I'm now adding a Minidsp Flex. This gives me HDMI arc, BluOs streaming and Dirac live. I'm hoping this gives me (close to) the best possible sound quality for the least amount of money. I tried a Wiim Pro Plus but the auto-switching on inputs took up to 10 seconds and there was a noticable delay between the tv image and the sound which was annoying.
I’m am using the Wiim pro with the SMSL do100 with balanced out and I have Nirvana power supply and ifi power supply and it works fantastic. Of course the Magnapan LRS+ has alot to do with it.
Personally, I don’t really want displays of any sort. That’s why I’m really enjoying my WiiM Pro -> Schiit Modius. The only change I might make is to the Schiit Bifrost / similar multibit balanced DAC.
@@lazzzzze1 Yep! Of the ones I’ve tried, Tidal Connect is definitely my favorite. The only enticing thing here is there is finally an Apple Music “connect” option along with the Fiio - but I tend to prefer Tidal anyways.
Ah, but you did build a Raspberry Pi streamer with a display a while back...And it didn't look too "Frankenstein". Hopefully the Eversolo DMP-A6 will push other manufacturers to offer similar streamers with a nice display. I'm hesitant on buying anything based on a particular flavor of Android, even a modified version, that relies on the streaming apps from the streaming companies themselves. How many years use can we expect to get from it before the apps no longer work? Are we going to get to the same point with streamers that we are with our cellphones and be buying new ones every 3 to 5 years? To some a ~$1000 purchase thrown away every 5 years isn't a "biggie", but to others, it's a "hold on, wait a minute" showstopper. If I spend $1000 on a turntable that lasts 20 years and has some resale value even after that, well, that's one thing. But buying a streamer I throw away in 5 years with no resale value gives me pause. To each their own.
I find it odd that people are so indifferent about device obsolescence. I have an 18-inch Samsung tablet that's based on Android Lollipop. So with each passing month it loses the ability to run or update apps ...
I do think these newer streamer/DACs look really cool, but I asked this same question over on Darko's page a few days ago. I currently have an iFi NEO DSD DAC with a RoPieeeXL 7" Pi Roon endpoint. I do have an old Chromecast Audio attached for streaming, if needed, which is rare BTW. Anywho, I've been thinking about getting a Wiim Pro for upgraded streaming duties. I could get the Eversolo for about what I paid for the iFi NEO, but if the apps are locked down to Android12, that's an issue. If the apps stop being supported or updateable, then the Eversolo ends up in my box of ever growing devices that are "aged out". Not cool. I'll stick with my better DAC, my Frankenstein Pi display and a more cost effective streamer (i.e. Wiim Mini, Wiim Pro, something Arylic or CCA), that are cheaper to replace when they are too old to support.
@@guytracy7224 I actually use my rebuilt iPhone 4 (the battery swelled up like a tick!) as a controller for assorted Bluetooth speakers. It's kind of over kill, but it works well and is heavy duty. Better than the fate of the old Android devices. Oh well.
Thanks for mentioning that if Eversolo had added an HDMI input, they may have had a killer two channel minimalist setup. I'm looking for a system that I can connect my TV to so the wife and I can watch movies once in a while, but actually use it for two channel music the majority of the time. Even if they raised the price to $1k, and added the HDMI, I would jump on this. Thanks for the great review.
Just buy an under a $1000,- receiver, use bi-amping (4 amps from the receiver if possible) for your main front speakers unless you use power-amps to get just a little extra power and control. The receiver will have all desired connections for tv etc. The streamer will have all your musical wishes.
I think the Schiit Syn should’ve put an hdmi in/out connection. I get keeping the cost low, but the people buying this probably would pay $10 more. It’s kind of a niche item.
Hi, I've got the Master Edition and as some have said Amazon Music is natively installed on mine also Randy said it has no EQ there is quiet a few EQ's although fixed ones.
I use a Blusound Hard drive/ripper, use a Topping DAC with it to get full MQA decoding (via spdif) , only downside is a small interruption at start of MQA playback when the unfolding starts, with successive MQA files no audible effect.
Get the Master Edition and attach to a good quality dac I use Chord Qutest. I will be ripping all my CDs Gainnback some teal estate in my house. One world warning allow a decent burning in time 48 hours plus. It smooths right out and starts to sound much more organic.
The one thing that separates all of them that way you can increase get to an access app right with your finger tip or you can have a remote details for $12 and just a feature that you can see the album cover. You can see a lot more in and use it for view meters
My socketed J2 AKM is on the way. I have the sparkos op amps from an Aiyima A07 (which I did not like). Pumped to see how it sounds with my wiim. The WiiM is currently using a topping e30 v2 DAC.
Weird, I commented that I had just got one this week and my cable modem stopped working 😮 Comment was removed? Did I hurt the cable companies' feelings?? Anyway, I will be using it as a digital transport with a Gustard R26 R2R Dac now that we have a new modem 🎉😊
Very informative and helpful review, and thanks to Bob for stepping up to help us all. I think I don't yet have a need for a streamer, but I may be wrong. 😂 I'll stick to my PC/NAS and ripped CDs for my 'streaming'. Thank you for your time and effort sharing this with us all. Have a great weekend, brother.
The new Denafrips Streamer ($1349) does not also have a screen. in fact it looks like it has been put into an Ares DAC chassis and box. Saving construction costs I guess. Wonder how it sounds? Now that the DAC market has been totally flooded, I guess the Chinese will begin to flood the market with streamers. Not a bad thing.
The crazy thing about the Denafrips Streamer is that, according to those on Audiogon, it isn't ready for prime time with very few streaming services supported (as of now). Why they would rush something out the door that isn't "done" makes little sense.
@@De132an still don't understand why they rushed it out the door. I hope that eventually it will be good and pair well with your Pontus 2. We'll see how Denafrips is with keeping software upgrades coming.
@@De132an I am also a Pontus owner and so far have not had the guts to upgrade the software not that it's mandatory. I lost my mind and got an Auralic G1.1 and it's a fantastic streamer. That said, it's over priced with a smallish screen, and I am sure something cheaper will come along that is as good or better, but then, that's audio. Buy used if you don't want to take the depreciation hit.
@@rosswarren436 Alvin has been testing different streamers a long time in preparation for this. Maybe he wants to see how customer reaction is and will handle things with a software upgrade. I think he feels the pressure of competition.
Dude , no display on the Wiim ?? The Wiim app on my Ipad is awesome, and it is always readily available, and large enough to not distress my Woodstock era eyes . And yes for less than a large , the Eversolo is fantastic.
If plan to use an external Dac (Chord), is the Wiim pro a better choice if just basing on sound? Or will the Eversolo still edge out the Wiim Pro with both output to an external dac?
WiiM Pro, the software alone is worth going with the WiiM. The built in and easily accessible EQ and PEQ of the WiiM is what takes it over the top and kicks other more expensive streamers in the teeth.
I have the wiim pro plus, and it sounds good enough for my needs. I also stream from my ipad into the usb port of my CD player, and then have the ipad on as a screen with the album art. So unless there is a massive difference from the Eversolo and from what I have read it is down to taste, I won’t be looking to buy one. It is however a nice cheapish solution and does look nice and compact, balanced outputs….great if you need them etc. great review and fun to watch.
I got A6 with high hopes to minimize number of devices in audio chair and for convenience. Unfortunately as the time pass I`m less happy with it. First, it still needs external DAC to get the most of it. Second, it has some issues. Some are been resolved by firmware updates, some I guess are design flaws. Third, USB out is horrible in my opinion. Going further, for some reasons if you connect external source to A6 by usb-c (like PC) and use it as a DAC only, it sounds much better. So there is a bottleneck somewhere in the design. Coax or Toslink sound much better, so my guess is that processor circuit is not perfectly design. It measures great, but we know how it goes.. Overall, it is perfect (almost)all-in-one solution for everyone. But if you want to crank the sound to the limits it may be harder then initially one might think. On Saturday I`ll get Gustard U-18 to isolate USB output of A6 to check if it would help...and compare it to USB output of Daphile-based PC. PS. I`m not in use of any streaming services. My whole collection is stored on external SSD inside A6. This by the way is one of the reasons I wanted to try A6: on the bottom, there is a slot for M2 drive.
I have the Eversolo DMP-A6…. Just got it last week and I can confirm that the device’s software has the Amazon Music app installed and supports Hi-Res music.
Conversely, I need the phono inputs for my Planar 3 turntable and the EQ that the Wiim Pro offers. Otherwise I would buy this unit in a heartbeat. That display really is beautiful.
How about the new Matrix Mini i4? It has almost all the features of the EverSolo plus the HDMI ARC, for $200 less than EverSolo. It might be a very good contender for less money. Just as an idea for a future review...
WiiM Pro has a serious problem with volume fluctuations, especially with Pandora. Phono stage doesn’t supply enough boost for basic turntables. I sent it back and still in search of a better option.
Great coverage Randy!! I totally agree with your assessment. Basically the best all in one streamer DAC on the market under $1,000, only being bettered by the Hi-Fi Rose, and even that’s debatable. 🤣🤣🥰🥰 I love the idea of the Wiim and J2, that Wiim has a magical streaming network that sounds really clean, but ya need an external DAC as it’s DAC isn’t really great, and the J2 would be a nice fit!! Only thing ya loose is all the cool and fun features and functions of the solo, but if it’s all about the sound then that’s a no brainer choice. I wish Rose or solo would come out with just a streamer. PS- hook the Wiim up to the solo with the Wiim as the streamer and check out that solo DAC!! It’s fantastic!! Makes me want to get the EverSolo Z8 DAC. 🥰🥰🥰 Well done as usual brother. Coffee is on us this morning. Cheers.
If for some reason Amazon isn’t working/connecting on the DMP a6, I would think it should be soon as it is advertised to enable it? But great review. Some important things covered here that others avoided! Interested in more of a direct comparo against Wiim mini pro + different dacs then Eversolo with different dacs 🍿👍🏼🙏🏼
I almost skipped your review...another Eversolo hater means it must be really good! Darko glossed over sound differences w the Node. Fear of distributor whiplash? I own both. Agree w your pros & cons. Another con is its CD rip feature seems to work with some DVD readers and not others. No fix so far but Eversolo, like Bluesound, releases new firmware upgrades to fix bugs and add enhancements. Maybe they can reverse the HDMI interface and add eARC w a future update.😅
Question : Have you ever used a Squeezebox Touch Streamer, DAC? I have one for 13 years now and still think it’s the Streamer / DAC to beat. Has a nice 6” screen for everything including Album art, digital VU meter, Spectrum analyzer etc. Sad that Logitech killed it, but the open source community supported it for a long time and still works well.
Squeeze Box was definitely ahead of its time. Had a couple, but found them hard to use. Amazon Echo replaced those, then latest Onkyo Receivers (which are excellent) and now a NAD M10v2, which is fantastic. After using BlueOS (on the NAD), I think I’ll stick with BlueSound devices, for streaming. If on budget, an Onkyo Receiver alone (is plenty fine).
Fantastic review as always! I feel that the DAC portion is lackluster as my Marantz receiver does a better job. I also feel that the software is not ready for primetime. The unit is dressed up very nicely, however, functionality and performance are no better than any of the other Chinese brands sold on Amazon.
@@cheapaudioman Ya there is on CA Amazon I looked like 3 weeks ago and there wasn’t any… Awesome! 1300 and change in CAD…. We always pay more here , bummer but it’s still a great value for what you get. Thanks Ran!
Surely, the ultimate conclusion of your review, is that the next WiiM should have an HDMI out to display artwork (etc.) to a display. It’s time to start pushing this approach. We’re constantly told how vinyl is ‘better’ due to its physicality. Streaming can’t respond to this with physicality. However, it can respond by noting that a boxed-set’s liner notes, artwork and lyrics can be viewed on a 65” tv screen whilst listening.
Very interesting unit, I'm one of the old school Squeezebox hold outs and that is primarily due that I love having the album artwork. I currently use 4 logictech Touch's in my home system ranging from my home office, Familyroom, livingroom and back patio. I also have a Pioneer N50 which sounds very very good, but has drawbacks (to small of viewing screen & Twonkey doesn't work any longer and Plex won't do playlist), so I have been on the hunt for years to find something that measures up to the Touch (album Art) and the quality of sound of the N50. This Eversolo sounds like a winner, but I need to know how does it work with a NAS system that has my music collection and how does the A6 playback that stored music (need ability to play, playlist).
Great review on these streamers, but I'd like to see someone throw in a Brennen B3 to compare as well as the usual suspects. Their 2TB version allows for nearly 5000 CD rips in flac and tunes tens of housands of internet stations quite easily. I use an older B2 but have to say my experience has been flawless over the past several years. Nice little machine!
I love your reviews, but this is an "apples v. oranges" situation. I have a DMP-AP ostensibly because self-contained streaming units are surprisingly rare. Any of the few other options cost at least 40% more. I don't want to have to use an additional device to control a single component in my home theater. Granted, I only have used this to play CD rips from my local NAS, so a lot of the "features" (screensaver, music service streaming, Airplay) are of no value to me. I'm in the "Brilliant Product for Some People" category on this one. This is the only reasonably-priced, premium device with this form factor. I don't know why that is, but I can't spend my time tilting at windmills ...
Great review! I like the product, but I see that nice J2 in my future (definitely will use the link) since I use 2 different wiim pro units. I stream one pro into a Marantz 8802a which has some great DACs. The other, I use into a small class AB amp that drives a 1940s vintage Klipsch licensed shorthorn. One of the main reasons I purchased the second pro is because it can be switched to mono mode, which I need for this application. This is the system where I will probably use the J2. The reason that I am saying this is because I totally agree with your take on IO, especially for the unit in review. I have difficulty at the moment with the eArc connection between my Sony tv and the Marantz preamp. That is probably the biggest shortcoming in my system. Because of that, I use an Nvidia Shield TV Pro to stream my video content. I really need to figure out what is wrong with that eArc connection. My system would be tremendously simplified with that one active connection.
Same deal as the recent Emotiva, its pretty close to being something special but its just a bit too expensive for what it is. If it had HDMI eARC, and could function as pre-amp with a few analog inputs it would be very compelling and at the top of my list but as cool looking as it is with its screen, and clean looking design its just not quite enough functionality.

Ultimately to each their own, but this unit is for music lovers.
does the eversolo receive and send files differently in such a way that allows it to send better data into an external dac?
@@Superman54 It doesn't. Buying the A6 specifically to feed in to a separate DAC is an odd choice.
@@goldenretrogames so would you suggest using streamer + dac from the a6 and then going in a seperate pre amp / amp combo ?
You can’t go wrong with either.
or you can buy a much more expensive streamer/dac used for half the price and get something even better.. ;)
I own both and coudn't agree more. The Eversolo is much better and matched with the Audiolab 6000A, it is fantastic,
If sound best sound quality is key, would when then use the Eversolo or the wiim pro paired withe the J2 DAC?
I have a Bluesound Node N130 and I dont know if I should go with the wiim+j2 or the Eversolo. Sound is more important for me than gadgets.

Also you can add an SSD to the underside, and store music on the device. And even rip CD's to it. Which is nice 🤘🤘
Yes! It definitely should have been mentioned.
Cd ripping would add more cost, and only a very very small amount of audiophiles still use CD's.
@@En_Joshi-Godrez nevertheless it should have been mentioned.

@@alvarocoutinho3103 oh I see, it can rip cd's. I misread your comment, sorry.
I compared the A6 to the Node 2i and the Node (2021 w HDMI Arc) and also w an external Weiss DAC. A6 sounded clearer and more dynamic in all cases.
node 3 is that the n130 or ?
Isn’t that what it’s all about?
true its not abt reaching certain points, its abt listening experience eventually, if its still unpleasing then upgrade
An it does it flawlessly 😊
Note: Maybe you just have to update your unit...
Isn't it through the Eversolo App? I have the most recent firmware and it isn't native, but it is supported through the Eversolo app.
Yes. I have seen other reviews stating that!
So sad.

The SSD slot at the bottom is a nice option to use it as a player/DAC without need of network

@@D1N02 With that way of thinking you can think that all streamer products are pointless right?
I think higher-end people will use this as a streamer transport connected to an external doc, and that is where I hear it shines.
Others reviews already said that. Randy missed… in fact, I thing he is not pleased with EverSolo for not having sent one for review…

It does
It does have an SSD slot on the bottom that you can rip cd’s directly to. I’ve had mine for a while now and am pleased with its functionality. You do pay a premium for the screen but compared to a Rose audio it’s quite a bit less expensive.

I was very happy w my Node 2i until I heard the Eversolo A6. Clearer articulation and bigger dynamics to my ears at least.
I just tested the DMP A6 against my Node N130 . The Eversolo kicked the ass out of the Node. Much fuller sound and much bigger sound stage. Lots more detail and crisp. I love my Node but the Solo sure is much better. I used the internal DAC on both.
Had to watch this one again. So much content and detail. Streamers and dac’s are still a little new to me. However learning more everyday about them.
I 100% agree, without the HDMI input EARC it's a pass for me. I had believed the Eversolo had an EARC input and bummed it doesn't. Thanks for the review!
It's like everything else. It's not perfect, but it IS the right piece of equipment for the right person...

Yes!! Exactly what I was thinking 👍
I think it’s great for the folks that can use it. My comment was that this feature is good for some people but not most people. If it had this and a hdmi e arc input it would be the best of both worlds
@@cheapaudioman
Ya your right, that would be the best of both worlds. There never seems to be the “perfect “ product that does it all but this one is a super sweet piece of gear. Love the touch display and dual sabre chips. I was looking forward to your review of this. Thanks CAM !🤟

Thanks for the rightful information to avoid disappointed after purchase. Indded , Eversolo display is great where you don't need to hook tv .
Maybe a Wiim versus the Eversolo through the Geshelli JNOG2 is warranted.
Exactly what I thought @mattkalis
I’ll have both of those dacs shortly.
I have both. I’m using WiiM Pro going into J2 Akm Dac into a Ladder Bach preamp. Eversolo is going into a Yamaha A-S2200. Both are great in their own regard. With the Eversolo you are paying for an all around integrated solution.
How about using the eversolo as just a streamer into the dac you used for the wiim pro did you do that comparison ?
Great videos man. Don't let the haters get you down.
Who the hell could hate this channel?? 😮
Lol. They’re out there.
Lol Obviously you have the benefit of auditioning a ton of gear and can cherry pick the good stuff, I have 7 pairs of speakers at home , did diy speakers and tube kits and at 66 years of age want to enjoy proper detail and realism that $2-3k amps and preamps provide…Sorry after experiencing 200wpc there’s no going back to 60, and I’m sure you’ll agree that the “sound” benefits are at all volume levels…
I’m like you as well and love a great deal, my old Vandy 2ce NEVER sounded this good…Oh and the right fancy speaker cables and interconnects DO make a difference .
The Eversolo DMP-A6 ist one of the best DACs in this price range. Just test the Master Edition.
Build me a streamer with VU's and I will line-up to buy it!!!!
mine has had no drops at all so far, might be a problem with your wifi or its fix in the last update since i have only had it 2weeks
It's buggy. Avoid for those who can't tolerate buggy system.
Are the EQ settings bypassed if you're using digital out to a external DAC?
Groovy review. Randy, I just bought this so I can use it in multi-channel with roon
Thanks Jack ...Good to know I'm thinking of making a purchase of a streamer and wondering which to choose...You helped
Completly agree with the amazon music. After tinkering with various RPI distributions I am over the moon with the Wiim thanks to the Amazon Music capability and how well it works
I bought one and I like it and that’s my story!
WIIM Pro works great for me. I have 2 of them and the Mini. Use the Pro's for my main stereo and office stereo, and the mini floats around the house.
Love your reviews . Useful and entertaining
I own one and I simply don't understand the HDMI out port. But I love everything else about the Eversolo. Insanely good.
Is it an hdmi output or I2S ? I2S is the best output for externals dacs
I think the HDMI is for 5.1 and Dolby Atmos? V your av receiver.
I don’t have Earc on my tv,so for me good.
That's why I appreciate Spotify and Tidal connect. Not only can you control the music remotely, but have it displayed on a smart TV or device.
Same, I’m still not happy that I have more than one obsolete iOS product.
Why not use Toslink?
@@BroncoRD and there is a full EQ now via update.
I use a Blusound Hard drive/ripper, use a Topping DAC with it to get full MQA decoding (via spdif) , only downside is a small interruption at start of MQA playback when the unfolding starts, with successive MQA files no audible effect.
Thank you for putting together an interesting and entertaining channel.
Get the Master Edition and attach to a good quality dac I use Chord Qutest. I will be ripping all my CDs Gainnback some teal estate in my house.
One world warning allow a decent burning in time 48 hours plus. It smooths right out and starts to sound much more organic.
Maybe I'm missing something here but I cast from a 10 inch tablet to my Node from my listening position... works a treat.
Once Denafrips gets its software settled, it’s going to be a killer unit when used with my Pontus2.
The market can’t beat what the Eversolo d6 give us in regards to feature’s and price bracket.
You are better off with the WiiM Pro unless you want the screen
Big Amazon user myself, thank you for saving me the money and headache of return.
I have the Eversolo DMP-A6…. Just got it last week and I can confirm that the device’s software has the Amazon Music app installed and supports Hi-Res music.
Did he mention that there is an m.2 NVME slot for up to 4tb?! Awesome
Good DAC chip (dual ESS9038) and native Apple Music are the two features I need. So the Eversolo fits with my needs.
Conversely, I need the phono inputs for my Planar 3 turntable and the EQ that the Wiim Pro offers. Otherwise I would buy this unit in a heartbeat. That display really is beautiful.
Great comparison, still leaves me wondering how much to spend…..
I love the idea of the Wiim and J2, that Wiim has a magical streaming network that sounds really clean, but ya need an external DAC as it’s DAC isn’t really great, and the J2 would be a nice fit!!
Well done as usual brother. Coffee is on us this morning. Cheers.
thank you, my friend.
sweet and to point, as always
there's also the SHANLING EA5 PLUS (and a 7 but that's 2k :o) with screens and album art
I’d looooove to get one of these but I can’t find one in stock. Great reviews all over.
There’s a few in stock on the US Amazon store
@@cheapaudioman
Ya there is on CA Amazon I looked like 3 weeks ago and there wasn’t any…
Awesome! 1300 and change in CAD….
We always pay more here , bummer but it’s still a great value for what you get. Thanks Ran!
I bought mine thru Summithifi, and yes they ran out quickly- a few times
I simply hooked an Amazon Echo Dot to my 2007 Pioneer AV receiver xD
Surely, the ultimate conclusion of your review, is that the next WiiM should have an HDMI out to display artwork (etc.) to a display.
It’s time to start pushing this approach.
We’re constantly told how vinyl is ‘better’ due to its physicality. Streaming can’t respond to this with physicality. However, it can respond by noting that a boxed-set’s liner notes, artwork and lyrics can be viewed on a 65” tv screen whilst listening.
I think the ssd nmve storage option could also be a pros...
Blue sound should have XLR as well!
nice review, would be nice with compare to Fiio R7
Someone done a comparison lately, maybe iiwi channel ...
There is a great video on that on TH-cam.
The WiiM Pro+ is out and looks great. AKM 4493SEQ DAC. This looks like the one.
Thanks!
thank you for your support, my friend
