    Great video, the one thing that I would strongly suggest, is to fit a diode between terminal 85 and 86. Eg. The positive side of the diode to pin 85 and the negative side to pin 86, this will prevent any voltage spikes from the relay damaging any of the vehicle's control units. *FYI I have been an auto electronics engineer for over 38 years 🙂

    Thank you for your awesome video. I just did this on a 2009 JK four-door, mounted in the same place and it works flawlessly even with my remote start. I did not use a micro switch or toggle switch because when the alarm is disabled from the key fob the unit will not work. So all you really need to do is disarm the vehicle upon entry and the alarm is disabled. Thank you again so much.

      I'm glad the video could help! I added the Mico switch because the sensor can still pick up movement and cause the dome light or the gate ajar light to come on. This is only an issue if you're working on the interior with the Jeep off, the dome light coming on and off can get annoying.
      Thanks for watching!

    Score! thanks a bunch! My 2017 JKURR has factory alarm, my son accidentally activated it 2 weeks after getting the jeep, (unlocked the door with window down).... a Month later while parked at night beside a fence in a buddies driveway, (with windows down, doors locked)... some thief without opening the door, riffled through the glove box & center console while we were in the garage having beers,. Your right, they take everything of no value, the jeep owners manual, a flashlight, my CD collection & some other stuff of little value that was out of eyesight, all gone!.
    This proximity alarm would have stopped this !!! Again thanks a bunch, I will order the parts & install it ASAP, 1st thing in the spring!

    I bet there is a way to bypass the need for that switch. The key is to kind a wire that goes to ground or positive when armed and tie into that with another relay.

      It's a dirty little secret that car/mobile audio shops don't want you to know. They want you to spend a few hundred bucks on a whole new "Viper" alarm system. Another little secret, "Viper" alarms used to be the cheapest Chinese off-brand alarms on the market, you could buy them at K-Mart! Now they are the best if you ask the audio shops.

    • @UndergroundTrev
      @UndergroundTrev 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I've always seen Viper alarms being pushed as high end systems. I also remember seeing them available in places like K-Mart too though! hahaha

    For those who prefer not to cut into the tailgate wire, you can install an Alarm Siren (12V DC, 110dB) by connecting the Alarm Siren RED power wire directly to a 12-volt constant power source. Attach the Proximity Sensor green wire to the black wire on the Alarm Siren. This method allows anyone whose tailgate wiring is already connected to utilize the alarm system's second-stage green wire function as well. I'd rather deal with the alarm chirping than the horn going off. I actually have another switch between the tailgate wire just in case I want to utilize the horn.

    You could splice into the hood switch, it won't activate the lights inside the vehicle. This is used to protect the battery from being disconnected.

    Hey man, great educational video.
    You should do more videos and I believe you should get paid.
    You explained everything in so much detail, I feel that I finally learned what a relay is supposed to do.
    On a different note, Best Buy didn't want to install that sensor for me with a 3305V install last weekend.
    Could I wire it in, splicing into the existing 3305V relay or do I have to get a separate relay?
    Thanks in advance!

    Have to install something like this on my Jeep now. I have a stock alarm with auto start that came with vehicle, and the factory alarm sucks... Didn't go off when someone broke my driver side window? I have a 2017 JK Sahara, and say I wanted to hook up with the warning chirps (Green wire), where and what would it hook up to? Great video by the way!!!

    Hi, great video! Just want to know if any aftermarket proximty sensor would work? Also, do you have any instructions on how to install a pin switch under the hood and connect it to the factory alarm?

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would imagine any proxy sensor would do the job, the wiring colors may be different though. I'll have to look into the hood pin switch, I have one installed for an under hood light (have a video on that as well) Wiring it to the alarm may be possible, I'll let you know if I figure something out. Thanks for watching!

  • @kn520
    @kn520 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Bro, thanks for the informative video, I've understood most of it as a newbie to electronics. I just wanted to run something by you.
    1. Could I use a fuse tap pigtail to tap into a constant Power source at the fuse box then add an additional fuse for the new circuit (the sensor)?
    2. Could I do the same as above for the ignition power, except that I connect the fuse tap pigtail to the cigarette lighter fuse?
    Thanks in advance

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You sure can, I always hard wire everything and forget to think about easier ways to hook things up. I have a video coming out this morning that uses fuse taps, just to show how easy things can be. Thanks for watching Kriben!

    • @kn520
      @kn520 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay thanks for that, Also do I not need to worry about the difference in amperage between the two circuits (the one I'm tapping into and the sensor circuit) will the 30-40A relay prevent any fuses being blown?
      Thanks again bud :)

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The relay wont prevent any fuses from blowing, but as long as you have everything wired correctly you wont have to worry about blowing fuses, this setup has a very low power draw. The relay is just there to act as a middle man so to speak, it tells the new sensor setup when the vehicle is running so the sensor doesn't keep going off while you're driving. I hope that makes sense.

    • @kn520
      @kn520 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The functionality of the relay does makes sense. How many Amps is this motion sensor rated at? Amazon doesn't list it

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't say 100% what the draw is, but I would say it would be less than 2amps. More likely around 1 or less because it just sends a signal to your OEM alarm and your vehicle takes care of the rest.

  • @johnf3278

  • @MrWhipitman

    So, I am now looking into these motion sensor alarms for my '16 JKUR as I just had my second break in last night through my soft top where the thief crawled all through my Jeep searching all my molle bags, under seat, console, and glove box.
    Will the position you used still be adequate to get my rear seats as well? Im not worried about the tailgate compartment as I dont have anything back there but a 35" spare tire. I have the BarTact seat covers and use pouches to hold most of my recovery gear and other miscilaneous tools. Just something enough as a deterent or to wake me up and scare off the would be theif would be nice.

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't say 100% as you have a 4dr and I did this on a 2, but I'm pretty sure. I tested mine and it will go off if you reach into the back seat. It doesn't do much for all the way in the rear, but if you're anywhere in the Jeep long enough and moving around it will go off. I can mess around all the way in the back for a few seconds before it will go off, but it seems the closer you are to the sensor the faster it will pick up your motion. I hope that makes sense. It works even better with a soft-top because you mess with any part of the top and it moves in a bunch of spots and goes off much easier.

    • @MrWhipitman
      @MrWhipitman 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the fast response. I may play with a could locations and see which one works the best for me. Really appreciate the video, very helpful to get an idea for what it will take me to install one.

    Excellent video! I keep my recovery gear in the back of my 2dr with a soft top and will love to have the proximity sensor linked to the factory system. Now that you have had it for a while, any issues or updates?

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Still working great! Only issue I have discovered is that it does not play nice with the remote start system I installed. The remote start works off of the OEM key fob by hitting lock 3 times, then it starts the Jeep. When using this it seems to make the proximity sensor think someone is stealing the Jeep or something. If I try and remote start while the proximity sensor is on, the alarm goes off and the Jeep starts. I don't think this would be an issue though if I had a factory remote starter. Thank you for watching!

    I was looking at the motion sensors you installed on your JK on eBay, and found shock sensors as well... What are your thoughts on shock vs motion? Also, the shock sensor appeared to be from the same company and looks to use the same harness as your motion sensor... Do you think install would be the same??
    Sorry it got long winded! Thanks for sharing all the videos!

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching the videos! I'm glad they could help you out. As for the shock sensor, yep... same install and same harness. You can actually use both at the same time, but this will make the system very, very sensitive. My thoughts on one vs the other... if you are suspect that someone might get in the Jeep, either would work well, if you think someone might just reach inside, then the proximity. I think more people would be wise to the shock sensor in the way of being really gentle if they get in the rig, but if you have a motion sensor they can't really get around that. Either or both are good additions to the OE setup. Thanks again!

    Purple/Orange gate wire to Blue wire from module
    Pink/White Ignition wire into relay pin #86

      Thanks for the quick reply. Found the wire. Same color as 2015. Just hidden behind other wires. Tested line and light came on for the gate. Ran into another issue. Connected wires to relay and system work BUT when I turned on the by-pass switch on from the 12volt (constant) line, it put the Jeep into on/run position. Very odd. Don't know if having an auto starter effect it or not.

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now that is a new one for me... I've never heard of this issue before. Do you have factory remote start?

    • @maap7167
      @maap7167 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Factory alarm with after remote starter. No aftermarket alarm installed. Thanks for all your help. Just very odd. Might be a stupid question. 1. Am I supposed to turn the switch on? 2. On the device, when I lock/arm the system, should the device light (green/red) be on?

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The switch should be on when you want the newly added sensor on and off when you don't. I honestly don't remember what lights or colors came on the sensor. I also have an aftermarket remote start (MPC) but no issues there.

    Based on your experimenting with the sensitivity, can you make the detection field large enough to protect the rims if someone was attempting to get them off?
    You said you would not want it to go off if someone just walks by in a normal setting. However, depending on the time/location it would be good to be able to warn people off who were skulking around at 3am in your driveway looking to steal your rims.
    I also wonder if you could manually disengage the proximity sensor (with the switch you installed if you had the sensitivity set that high for special situations), where you lock the doors and engage the factory alarm with the fob?

      - Lock the Jeep using your key fob
      - Wait about 15 seconds

    hello willy, greetings from ghana and thats an amazing video you have there. I have a few questions.1, can I install this in a car with no factory alarm system and just connect it to a siren or the car horn.2, Is there a time delay between which the device starts to work when turned on.3, From your video I am quite confused how firstly u activate the device and activate your factory car alarm as well, what turns what on between the car alarm and device. Please help, just got robbed, I need to fix one asap.

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could add this sensor to just the horn or a siren, but it would require more wiring and another relay. There is a 15 second delay between the time you "arm" the system and when it actually starts working. As for activating, I'm not sure I follow, You just press the lock button on the factory key which "arms" the system which in turn activates the factory alarm and added motion sensor. I hope this information makes sense, thanks for watching!

      Thanks for they reply. I want to get the motion sensor and a siren for my car ( toyota corolla 2013) but my main issue is how to turn the motion sensor off when it is armed and I am outside the car as my car didnt come with a factory installed alarm.

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see what you mean now. Unfortunately you would need to install some form of alarm system otherwise you would just have the motion sensor wired to a switch and you would have no delay before you get out of your car it goes off. It would also only go off once because the sensor only sends a single pulse signal. You would have much better luck looking into some of the Viper alarm systems because some of them have a spot where you can just plug in the motion sensor, no extra wiring required. It looks like using just the motion sensor and a siren alone will not work out very well in your case, but some of the Viper alarm systems are pretty affordable, and I believe some may come with the motion or a shock sensor. I wish you the best of luck and I'm sorry to hear about your break-in.

      Great Willy, I just wanted to be smart about this but was loosing a lot of sleep. I was considering having only the Viper 305 which comes pre installed with a shock sensor but no motion sensor but issue is i dont want a break in before my alarm goes off. Is there any complete alarm that comes with a shock and motion sensor pre installed, if not what will you recommend. That i get the motion sensor which plugs easily into the viper 305 and both will work fine. Appreciate your concern and time willy.

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are talking about the Viper 350 alarm system, yes you can get the Direct Install Essentials 508d motion sensor and it will plug directly into the system. This setup would give you the built in "shock sensor" of the Viper 350, this is if someone bumps you car or bangs on it (you can set the sensitivity) With the 508d added it would also detect motion in or around the car depending on how sensitive you set it as well.

      I know but for the toggle switch to turn it on and off , do I have to cut the red wire and then attach one side of the red wire to the switch then the other half to the switch? Like I have it setup up with s viper alarm ?

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have it plugged into a viper system, not the OEM alarm like in the video, you would need to cut the RED wire in the little 4 pin harness (red,black,green,blue) for the sensor. That is the power wire for the sensor. Attach one end of the cut wire to your switch and the other end of the cut wire to the other side of your switch. You may have to extent these wires to put the switch in a location of your choosing. When you turn this switch off it cuts power to the sensor only and not the rest of your alarm system. I hope that makes sense.

    Hey Rocky , i just want to say thank you or the content you provide! I have some questions on this install.
    When the alarm is on and it gets set off does it eventually shut off after there is no movement? Or will it keep honking until the jeep unlock key is pressed?
    Also would there be a problem if the dome light is turned on when the alarm system is activated(jeep is off)? Would this damage anything? I believe if the Jeep is on then it wouldn't damage anything since there won't be any power to the relay, but not sure when its off
    Last but not least, you said that if im going to get into my jeep and i unlock it , once in , it wont beep, but the dome lights will go on and The dash will say gate ajar. Doesnt really bother me, but to avoid this you would have to turn the switch off correct? Bascially disabling the system
    Thank you!

    • @RockyXTV
      @RockyXTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The alarm will go off for I believe 15 minutes, or until the Jeep senses the battery is getting low. It will then shut itself off to keep from draining the battery, Smart Jeep LOL! If the alarm went off and you didn't hear it, then it shut itself off, when you return to your Jeep and press unlock the horn will honk 3 times really fast to let you know the alarm went off while you were away. I hope that part makes sense... No worries with the dome light. You are correct about the switch, it just disables the motion sensor. Thanks for watching and for reaching out!

      There are two adjustment screws under those plugs, one for each zone. You can either leave them where they are set if by chance they work out for your vehicle/application, or you may have to fine tune them so the system won't be overly sensitive. I had mine set way to sensitive at first and it would go off if someone walked withing a few feet of my Jeep. That was a little too much.

      The wire I'm using is the door pin on a sedan vehicle, the problem is that this wire also runs my DOME light, the sensor worked for a couple days until I used my DOME light manually, then it stopped working. I tested the door trigger wire and there is a voltage change when the DOME light is toggled on/off. I then tested the output of the sensor trigger wire (blue) when the sensor is triggered, the reading is 0.83 on the multimeter BUT it is not triggering the alarm at all anymore. Is there a way to add a Tazer to the driver side seat that gives the thief a tingle in their dingle?
    I am thinking of hooking up a halon or CO2 dump into the engine air intake that will deprive the I.C.E. of oxygen while the alarm is on, That way eventually if they disable the alarm, the engine will not start until the air intake has dissapated the Halon or CO2!
    Which should take 10 to 20 minutes.
    That or an alarm activated Fart In A Can to the interior cab with auto door lock on.
    This will lead to enough frustration that they will give up, throw up, Or they will call 911 and turn themselves into law enforcement voluntarily!

Alright, so I have a 2017 silverado 1500 and I'm installing the 508d module. I've got everything I need, I've got all wires run etc.. the one thing thats been kicking my ass, I finding the trigger wire for the driver door, or any door. I've probed around in the plugs of door with a multimeter over and over again. While arming the system, while opening the door or closing the latch so it thinks it's closed.. so I found one 12v source in "A" plug behind the door panel, on the frame of door. Beside it are two other wires that get a 5v signal which I found out are the lock and unlock control wires. I cannot find a the wire to trigger the alarm.. so the trigger wire from the module sends a 5ma signal, what should I be looking for as far as voltage and maybe, in what location?? One other thing to add, when the door panels are OFF and I close the door and start the truck, it is reading that the doors are ajar. So maybe I need to plug the panel in and do some testing from there. Haven't tried that idea yet, as I'm always struggling to get time to work on it without my wife getting pissed off
