At least now we know that in case there's an apocalypse where all knowledge of how to make screws is lost that we'll still be able to build a PC using just duct tape.
You guys failed to learn from 7 days to die that duct tape can be produced without a workbench by using only glue and cloth scraps. No glue? Simply harvest bones and murky water!
*Dawid* is the guy who takes a cockroach, removes one leg at a time and measures how well it can move until there's no more legs left, then talks to the cockroach saying "move!" and proceed to write down: "Legless cockroach: becomes deaf." And I love him for this videos. Kudos.
Need to make duct tape string by twisting the duct tape together, if you tension it enough it would probably be no worse then zipties, at least for the extent of testing. This way should dodge the adhesive heating and hold the pump on tight
I just came here after watching Jayztwocents asking his viewers for content that they want to see, then you have this absolute madman duct taping an entire rig. Fucking chad.
I've had a 120mm fan electrical taped to the empty PCIE openings of the case for months acting as an additional exhaust. The tape is colour matched to the case, and the RGB matches the rest of the build. It looks remarkably good considering.
I duct taped two USB powered fans to the backside of a Dell 3007 WFP-HC and blocked off all the vent holes around them with duct tape(forcing the air to travel to the top/bottom/top-center inside the casing to exit, cooling the entire monitor rather than just around the fans). It was malfunctioning due to excessive heat(these monitors run HOT), and now through the magic of duct tape it works perfectly.
Dawid: the cpu docket is removable Me: oh... ohhhh no. Dawid: I'm doing the thing to take it to the next level Me: Oh no! You absolute madman! Love this channel so much.
Dawid, your genius knows no bounds. After watching most of your videos, I thought , heck, I can do this too. I'll do a video of using food products for thermal paste, ( ketchup, mayonnaise, etc.) Or maybe connecting each individual wire (no plugs allowed,) with hot glue. The possibilities are endless. I will concede to the master and let you continue to impress the masses. To many "computer experts" take themselves too seriously. Keep doing what your doing and entertaining us and we'll keep watching.
Me, seeing the title of the video: “Oh nice, he’s going to build a computer case out of duct tape”. Me, actually watching the video: “Oh… oh no. That’s not… it can’t…. will that work? Oh my… Jesus take the wheel!”.
The gpu MacGyver special probably works better because you were able to tape completely around the card, therefore achieving a (much) better contact than with the cpu where you could only tape over the top.
You have the wildest ideas in canada and I freaking love it. Hopefully I get to run into you when you visit ontario so I can get an autograph from you but signed using 1 stick of ram
Hey I have a question? I got hp pavilion tg01-0023w but I want to change the case . Is it possible to change the cpu case . I hate the way HP gaming look and I will upgrade some stuff.
Dawid, is it safe to assume that the video concept was fueled by a combination of Pixie Stix, two day old Coffee, half of a Red/Green Show marathon, three old PC Accelerator magazines, and 3 sleepless nights? I feel like I'm close, here...
I once had a client being in their computer for repairs. It had no side pannels and everything was held in place by wire. Even the motherboard and harddrives. And no not electrical wire with isolation but wire you'll use on fencing and stuff.
You should have installed the CPU cooler before putting the motherboard into the case. You wrap several layers of tape around the motherboard, over the RAM and through the gaps of the IO panel.
Would simply putting the case on its side be the solution to prevent cpu throttling? Potentially reroute the coolant pipes so that air won't be trapped in the pump, using additional ductape to keep the routing in place
I am simple man. I see Dawid, I watch Dawid, I press like. But yeah seriously sometimes you make me say out loud "What the fuck?" when I look at your videos, never change sweet summer child.
But what if you build it in a flat older style case, so that gravity is pulling the cooler onto the CPU instead of away from it? Does that make for any better results?
Just noticed that at 6 mins and 10 secs when you were showing about the screws that were used when originally mounted for the radiator, is that the wrong holes were used. You had the screws in the outside edge holes when you should have used the inside holes which would have allowed for all the holes to be screwed on the radiator.
You should have used a pair of vileda gloves! Position them crossed over the pump block, stretch them a bit for elastic tension and tape the "ends" to the motherboard! Using vileda is always permitted
There were many instances where the use of double-sided duct tape would be more convenient, but it is possible to put together a pc using gravity only, lol 1) Amd cpus can be socketed without screws 2) when motherboard sits horizontally and a propper (heavy) air cooler is used then you don't even need a duct tape to create a mounting pressure 3) same is true for m2 ssd - just leave it in the socket
Hey Dawid. Probably a dumb question. But where do you get your music? Do you make it? I'm a lazy musician and thought about writing some bumpers. Just curious
That rocks Dawid! I've been building systems for almost 30 years and I've seen some real cringe in my day but yours came out really pretty decent plus it worked C+ 👍
But what about hot glue? My current build includes a large rubber band for a fan "retention mechanism" and a garden hose washer to prevent GPU sag. Oh, and look at you using fancy knives and scissors, when the teeth will be just fine.
You could try to cheat and make some kind of string out of long, twisted strips of duct tape that you thread through the holes in the motherboard to better secure the cooler in place. Or you cheat with more physics and go desktop, rotating the computer 90 degrees to have a lesser fight with gravity. But choose your rotation axis and direction well.
I have actually used a shoelace through all the cpu mounting holes and got a cooler to go on and keep temps good. You should make another video like this but use common household items instead of just Dutch tape
A few years back our clutch fan belt broke and we ended up using duct tape to make a new 1. 1. It got us all the way to a place called Goldendale Washington where we could get it replaced that was over 250 miles
Next challenge if you should choose to accept it! Pack up that marvelous machine and mail it back to yourself and make a video of how it arrives. It may arrive in better shape than some videos I have seen of other prebuilts.
I have been watching you for a few years now and I always smash that like button but dont comment. I have been really busy in work on my last 4 days night shift and when I got in this morning at 6.30 I threw your vid on. The reason Im commenting now is just to say thank you for putting a smile on my face as you always do and particularly for doing it today after a heavy hard nights work. Next, either a test bench or sexy wall mount case (or if you can manage structural rigidity with just duct tape, a tower case of some description) fully out of tape. Without the space constraints of a case, you could just stack a pallet of duct tape on the cooler to get your mounting pressure.
Well the good thing with this is you'll need to reapply the tape often. So your thermal paste will never not be freshly applied. But I think re attaching things ever couple of weeks well get tedious. Adhesive and heat don't mix. At least the adhesive on duct tape.
Dawid - "It feels sturdier mounted with duct-tape than with screws!" Also Dawid - only uses 2 screws for the motherboard
Damn, you weren't supposed to know that. 😂
I've never stared in abject horror at a build the entire way through.
Well done Dawid
It did what it was supposed to then. 😂

Until all the duct tape is used, and nobody knows how to make more.
Fun fact the machines that mass produce duct tape require screws.

That wouldn’t happen. It’s exactly what the World Fastener Archive was implemented to prevent.
