    That GPU cooler would reach peak temps really quickly, a slow rise in temperature over time is the case internal temp rising. Just throw on a 120mm fan at the front bottom of the case to send some cold air at the GPU, and make sure you have good exhaust flow too. A simple test is to take off the side panel, if your temps drop a lot, you have bad case flow.

You are actually honest and there are not many like you out there. Let me also add that I really love that you do builds, reviews and the such with components that I can actually afford and actually purchase at a normal store and not have to do a craigs list drug deal for a GPU in an alley where the guy is like "bro bro, it's all good, totally legit card and it's only a thousand bucks, just come alone". I can sit and watch your videos and go "yeah I can actually use this information, I don't need to be linus to have the opportunity to even breathe on this stuff" Sometimes watching other content creators feels like going to a museum and there are people behind the ropes hitting things with hammers going "you stay behind that rope peasant, this is crazy rare, incredibly cool, it's like the best thing ever and I will tell you how cool it is while I actually try to break it, now go to the gift store and get a shirt". I definitely would've repaired the stock fan. gpu mini-fan cables can be found for cheap.. buy one, cut it half way or so, and solder on the stock fan / shrink wrap it up. stock fan is recessed into the heatsink which seems like a big advantage -- your strap-on setup (looks like) effectively halves the available air it can suck in

      Reminds me of a passively cooled card of mine. It has no fan, it has no plug for a fan, but it has the through-hole solder points for it. So all I did was transplant a pair of standad 1/10'' pins over and used a 70mm fan on it. A resistor in the fan's wires is enough to keep it throttled below full speed for less noise.

    One thing I would do is get a motherboard header to GPU header adapter for the fan. I have an ancient GeForce GTX 275 in a system that outputs S-Video to a CRT TV that was stupidly loud with it's original fan, even at idle. I chucked the original fan and shroud and strapped a pair of Noctua NF-R8 Redux fans to it. I connected them with one of those adapters plus a splitter so the video card itself controls the fans. It works brilliantly. Substantially quieter and about the same or slightly cooler temps under load though load temps are basically irrelevant on this computer. It does nothing but low res video playback.

    The duct tape solution seems fine now, the problem with duct tape is that it ages. Especially with a fan blowing on the glue side of it constantly (the heat cycling will also speed the aging up). When it ages it will dry up, become brittle and will 100% unglue from the heat sink portion, then it’ll start flapping in the breeze (literally) and eventually unglue portions from the fan housing as well, but not before allowing the air flow spillage to happen that you were worried about and trying to prevent in the first place - and not before making a bunch of noise flapping there in the breeze. I think a much better and easier solution would’ve been to either glue some very thin plastic strips along the edge of the fan casing to cover those spillage holes (could cut them from some plastic folders, or plastic covers from notebooks), or even use some cardboard and duct tape that to the fan housing (in a way that the duct tape isn’t exposed to the airflow). In both cases those solutions would last forever basically, and not create problems down the line.

    You can usually put bigger PCIe cards in smaller slots and have them run at a lower bandwidth. The slot has to have a cutout in it that lets the excess card through. I've seen them filed out by the user if they don't come that way. There was a forum post (like 10-15 years ago) where some guy hacksawed off most of a 16x GPUs contacts, so it would fit in a 1x slot, and the GPU still worked.

    Dawid should have totally dremmeled the Noctua fan's frame off and glued it directly to the GPU heatsink ;)

      That's something I would have done. Did something similar with my old Zalman CPU cooler with a broken fan. Cut the frame off leaving just a little plastic for 2 holes I had drill for screws that hold the fan between 2 huge heatsinks. Worked for years :)

    Dude, I think you need to put your AIO rad the other way around. Bubbles forming etc.... Gotta have inlet/outlet tubes from the radiator higher up than the pump. Otherwise problem will arise when air bubbles will form and your pump will run dry.

    Rubber bands are a nice way to semi-permanantly mount fans like that

  • @allenofmn
    @allenofmn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    One of the biggest reasons not to use desktop CPU's for this is the limited number of PCIe lanes.
    When you put cards in the top two x16 slots, each slot only operates at 8x and the bottom x16 slot only operates at x4. Ryzen just doesn't have very many lanes. It's really designed to run pretty barebone.
    If you want to be able to run your graphics card at a full PCIe x16 you gotta go Threadripper, Core X-series, Epyc or Xeon.

    Corsair 220t, Best looking front panel, building into this case I would give it a 7/10.

    I repurposed my somewhat older system to a similar situation, it has a total of three capture devices to capture 2 PCs, cam, two microphones, etc. I can tell you that it never runs super hard except when actually trying to do a high end live stream, then the GPU is actually doing something. Otherwise, it's just poking along being nice. Makes for great gaming too, my newer 5800x system isn't burdened with recording or streaming, so I get the full fat experience.

    Could you try how the GPU handles the temps without the duct tape I am just curious as I am having a hunch it might run a little bit cooler also why not try and strap something beefier in regards to a heatsink :D just throwing some ideas out there!

    • @HappyBeezerStudios
      @HappyBeezerStudios 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A different cooler comes down to the mounting holes. Oh, and next to trying without the duct tape mod, I'd also test if even more of an air duct might improve things. The fan is big enough to sit over pretty much the entire cooler, so forcing the air through the cooler instead of letting it run away at the sides.

  • @SOLDADITO76
    @SOLDADITO76 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 220T is actually a great case for air flow. Matter of fact I'm running that now with a Strix 670 Motherboard, 64GB 4600Mhz Ram, Strix 3080 Ti, and figured cause I can a Strix AIO cooler. Didn't need the AIO but ya I did anyways. I think your cooler to pump placement is going to be a heat/failure issue.

  • @stevencarter7999
    @stevencarter7999 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shouldn't the fan be plugged into the fan header on the GPU. So the GPU has controll over it's cooling.
    Probably get better temps that way.

  • @amunderdog

  • @makeitabud89
    @makeitabud89 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    just de-pin the new fan plug and put on the old plug so the gpu will control the fan speed. it just takes a pick and a little prying to remove the pins

    it's because you plugged the GPU fan into a case fan header.. plug the fan straight into the gpu and it should actuate based on GPU utilization.

    I gave up on upgrading my 1660ti to a 30 series and my friend just so happened to want to sell his 2080ti that he never used and still had a warranty, so i paid $600 for literally the strongest 20 series card in the box (EVGA FTW3 Ultra OC) so now i have an extra case, mobo, cpu, gpu, and psu so all i need is a hard drive, capture device and some ram and ill have a second pc

  • @XeonProductions

    If it makes you feel any better, I just fried my first motherboard like 2 months ago from a stupid mistake I made. A fan cable got pinched between the case and the IO shield on my board and shorted all 3 pins together, frying the board. In my 15+ years of building PCs I've never fried a board before.
