    One of my veenas waxin is gone little bit and the first two frets metal pieces misplaced. How can I fix it in a proper way, since I'm residing in UAE

      Blow an air dryer around the frets for 3 to 4 mts. The wax will loosen and set. Do not press the frets while doing this

      Asian paints has a good range of polishes for wood .Mr.Anand Rao has used Glomax ultra polish . Use a normal broad brush and polish your veena, after wiping it clean.

    Thank you for sharing. Any idea if a veena could be made for a lefthanded person. I believe the position of the three keys as well as the strings giving the "speed" should be reversed.

    • @malaviswanathan
      @malaviswanathan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That might mean the entire layout including the resonator position gets altered. Not sure. Let me ask around.

    My veena with new melam, , it does not produce tipical veena sound, it sounds like a box guitar, what is the reason

    • @malaviswanathan
      @malaviswanathan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your post. If the melam is low and the string is touching all the frets when you press ,this problem can occur. If the wax is a few days old some minor adjustments can rectify the sound.Secondly,if an amplifier is used the quality and guage of the string needs to be checked.

    Hi ma'am, i have a thanjavur veena and i haven't been able to take care of it properly. This veena is covered with carvings and there is dust buil up on it. Any tips on how to clean the wood portion. Also the wax portion

    • @malaviswanathan
      @malaviswanathan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Niramay, First wipe the carving with a wet cloth , that has been squeezed out dry. Then wipe with a dry cloth. use a brush to remove dust from crevices . Use pure coconut oil to rub through the wax. Use less oil. This also protects the wax from drying. Use Asian paints glomax wood polish once a year to polish your carvings.

    • @malaviswanathan
      @malaviswanathan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check if there is a little bit of wax , stuck on the fret. In which case slightly warm the fret and stick it on the fret board with medium pressure. otherwise buy bees wax , warm it, to make it liquid, apply it behind the fret like gum and stick it in its place. Do not use fevicol, gum etc. Best wishes Puneeth

      Hi Vibhaa, These days people leave the wood plain because it is environment friendly. You can use natural colours to paint your instrument. Or do a tanjore painting with gold foils.

      Hi Ramya,
      Thanks for your responseto the video. To my knowledge ,I believe carving should be done when the wood is still pliable. For a completely dry veena, painting is advisable. Will ask around and let you know.

    • @malaviswanathan

      When it is outside the temperature,humidity and dust have to be taken into account
      and hence kept neatly covered. Inside a cupboard ,provided temperature is controlled it is the best way of storing.

    If I bring Veena out of the country, it will be hard to maintain as stated. We can put in box, wipe, keep in almost even temp. Etc..... but for all other detail it will be impossible. Do you have suggestion n what type of Veena will be best to purchase for abroad?

    • @malaviswanathan
      @malaviswanathan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jack fruit Tanjore Veena is the best for all season use. Keep it in a box after use. Also see that the fretboard has a cover. You should be fine

    Madam, please let me know how to pack my veena for traveling 🙏

    • @malaviswanathan
      @malaviswanathan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is a long distance travel then I suggest you get a fibre box .For a short distance first wrap your veena fret board and resonator with a cotton saree or cloth and then put the regular veena cover and take it. Ask for a fragile sticker if you travel by plane or train. If it is in a car see that the veena does not move by cushioning it well.
