      Sathya 80% of songs go on the 4 or 8 beat cycle. the folk song types are either 5 or 7 beats.If one is not rhythm savvy, we have to try one of the above mentioned talas and check

      between 70 and 90 depending on the raga, sahityam and the rhythm pace. This is only for adi talam.

    Very beautifully explained I use it too extensively these days .
    It is usefu too for advanced level of playing .
    One question
    What does the denominator in the fraction 8/4 represent for example ?
    Whe 8 represents the no of Aksharams in the Adi thalam ..does the 4 or 8 in the denominator represent the total no of swarams in one beat or click ?
    But there is no change in the playing of the metronome fir 8/4 or 8/1 or 8/8 or 8/2 or 8/32 fir example
    Does the paid version help to differentiate in this

    • @malaviswanathan
      @malaviswanathan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sujatha, I am glad you found this video useful. The denominator means - number of notes per beat. In Carnatic music most of the time we have 4 notes/ beat and rarely 8. Have you watched the chaapu talam video. ?

    Thank you so much Madam for this video. Its very useful. Madam one small question, how to set taala when the song / kriti starts immediately after half beat.

    • @malaviswanathan
      @malaviswanathan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The metronome is set as usual, you have to start the krithi after you hear the first beat and before the start of the second beat

  • @meenakshi.pshankar
    @meenakshi.pshankar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mam, is there a way to make deshadi talam like when song doesn't start on samam.. I want to know for songs like manaviyalakinchara where it starts after 1.5. It's quite confusing for songs like this
    Can u pls help

    • @malaviswanathan
      @malaviswanathan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Meenakshi, the first thing you must practice is your hearing ability. Close your eyes and listen to your metronome or Jalra for 10 to fifteen minutes, tracking the talam in your mind. Do this for a few days, until your ears are sensitive enough to understand the tala map. This will help you with the eduppu . For eg. if the kriti starts at one and half, you leave one full beat and start the song immediately after the second beat. Just before the third. So listen, and get used to the beats

    Namaste Amma. This is a great video. I am trying to find the info for my kid. In this video, you indicated 45BPM and a question from my kid is- there's another video that explains mastering tala in which the bpm started from 50 onwards all the way to 150+. What should be the ideal BPM for practicing 1st, 2nd,3rd speeds. should it be 45 or 50 or 55 etc., how do I know and is there a video that explains BPM concept with respect to practicing different talas at 1st,2nd 3rd speeds. These are the questions from my young kid. Thanks again and he was able to configure the app for adi tala using your video/instructions.

    • @malaviswanathan
      @malaviswanathan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Bharat. Glad to note that your kid is inquisitive .Speed play with metronome simply depends on the skill and practice of a child. If you are just starting , 40,80 and 120 can be your 3 speeds. Later increase it and play. Practice is what will make it perfect at any speed.Best wishes for your kid.

    For Adhi thala what's the beats per minute?

    • @malaviswanathan
      @malaviswanathan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beats per minute is to do with the tempo or speed at which you play a song. Adi talam by itself has 8 beats and you can set the speed to anything between 40 and 150 beats per minute depending on how fast you want to play. Thanks
