I haven't done a lot of vinyl wrapping, but my friend owns a vinyl wrap business and does many many cars. 1.For smaller items like this, if you have a garage and a heat gun, it is not necessary for it to be warm outside, simply needs to be above 40 degrees F. Anything bellow won't work. The tip here is to apply a little heat after sticking on the vinyl pieces, spread it out evenly, then reapply a little heat. You don't want the vinyl to get HOT just warm enough that you feel the material stretch. 2. The majority (if not all) vinyl wrap for cars is HEAT and PRESSURE activated, not just heat. Apply pressure in an even, UNIDIRECTIONAL pattern while its warm is what activates a lot of the properties of the glue. When using the squeegee start on one end, and move in one direction to the other, OR start in the middle and move outward, this applies to all wrap's for cars 3. Although the vinyl is precut, it still requires slight stretch/pressure. When you warm up the vinyl it will expand, this is normal, and trimming is just part of the process. I highly recommend to apply all the vinyl to cover everything first, wait for the vinyl to settle and cool, THEN cut. Don't cut while the vinyl is hot/warm unless you are using knifeless tape. 4. Try not to touch the adhesive of the vinyl. The best way to apply it without touching is to align a single point of the vinyl while the rest is still attached to the plastic anti stick paper it comes on. Simply fold back the paper and crease it to get it out of the way. Then after, take off the whole strip once the tip is secure, and apply the other tip on the far end. Then while the tips are secure, start at the middle and work outward. Going inch by inch while its flapping in the wind or just hanging isn't optimal. Tack down both ends, them go center out. 5. For trim like this, open the doors. This will let you not only apply the edge more precisely but also trim the vinyl later. Over all the video covers all the nuances quite well.
Thank you for your video. The everyday man (person) doing a DYI project. Amazing! I have watched a ton of window wrap, heck all kinds of wrap videos and yours is the only one with the up-close perfectly focused on how to tuck the edges of the wrap. Parts of my window may have a rubber seal but not a seam to tuck in the wrap... and I suppose that the tucking tool is extremely thin so you can tuck the wrap in those really tight stiffer rubber seal areas...and I can say from experience that the Hyperdip can method is NOT the way to go. Hours to cover your car paint. Spray paint and dry time, and repeat 7-8 times... and still even if you are meticulous, you will get spray splatter (not your fault), and in my case just not a very consistent look to the gloss. Yes they all make it look easy and flawless. Thanks again, you're like a good neighbor.

Nice informative video. I have a question: the trim blackout looks nice but once you’ve finished the only thing that’s wrong is that the front end chrome on the grille near the headlights will still be shown. Does the kit have black-out for the chrome on the grille?
Precut vinyl is the issue. Every precut kit I've ever purchased used what seemed to me to be very cheap vinyl. I finally just bought a roll of vinyl and cut it myself from ViVid. Turned out great that way because I was able to have some overhang on my strips. Nothing peeled on the edges when I did that, but the precuts all peeled on the edges especially when drying off the car after a wash.
Totally agree about the restrictions of going with pre-cut vinyl 👍. However, for some people the fear of accidentally marring the car when cutting the vinyl is a legitimate one 🤷♂️

I started with Vvivid and then finished with Avery. Started with cutting, and finished with knifeless tape. The result sucks, but it doesn't suck as bad as the first run, so I'll take the lesson and rip it off and keep trying.
That's good you were able to complete it.. My experience was terrible. I tried several times but it wasn't aligning up. Maybe I'm just OCD but i decided to not install it due to it was not aligning perfectly plus i notice tiny bubbles upon installing.
I'm glad you commented... I was beginning to feel like I was the only one that struggled with this stuff. There is definitely a learning curve in using it. Sorry it didn't work out for you.
If you talked about doing this while you were trying to do this the first time, the vinyl probably shriveled up from old age and UV deterioration and fell apart in your hands because it took you a year and a half to explain how to put a 2“ x 2“ piece of vinyl down. Nice video. I bought light smoke taillight overlays (Crux Moto) for my Accord and had enough trouble installing those(50 degree weather) lol I couldn't imagine doing this although I really want the chrome delete as well as a black gloss roof wrap. I have a Red Sport 2.0. Keep up the good work!
All right, I’m not posting just a troll your video or hassle you. I am, at BEST, a hobbyist. I’m also not suggesting I can do it any better, but I used to tint windows like crazy. I think I would’ve spent half of this video talking about making certain that every single surface that you’re working on or around is surgery room clean. I would wipe down everything with alcohol, make sure I was out of the wind, and you have to make sure as you did mention brieflyThat the under surface has to be meticulously clean and smooth. Even if the wind is blowing and you’ve got dust heading your wrap, deep scratches, rust bubbles, or even paint chips you have to use an extremely high grit abrasive to try and smooth that stuff down as good as you possibly can. For instance I would’ve used one of those read sponges you can buy at AutoZone that has an abrasive surface on the bottom that they say you can use in place of a clay bar just to clean it up and smooth out those scratched up vertical window panels between the front and back glass. Also, why would you ever buy a super easy to screw up $60 kit when, for not much more, you buy a roll and you don’t have to be so insanely meticulous and pull it up 40 times and overstretch it. Also, why so reluctant to use heat? (And BTW, forget about a hairdryer.)

When you get towards the end, there is that part of the seal that crosses we’re the window actually ends I am finding to be difficult to navigate around. It looks like you went over it. Is that the best method you think?
With it getting so cold, probably not anytime soon as you need it to be relatively warm for the vinyl. Although I’ve been looking into heating for my garage, so maybe 🤔
seems like a pain in the neck. Good job though. Looks like you can still see those micro scratches after the vinyl. So annoying. Do you know of a way to polish the chrome area's before applying the vinyl? My front grill and the window chrome is impossible to clean perfectly. Drives me bananas.

The process takes a very long time, much longer than vinyl wrap, and a lot can go wrong. Paint splatter (spray can) can easily happen, and because it's a spray can the application is not evenly distributed throughout the chrome trim so results are not consistent in appearance. It's a better product to spray emblems / lettering.
Good question. If you’re using a good quality brand, if it was applied correctly, and if it was given enough time to bond properly at the right temperature, then you should have no issues.
I have the window and front unibrow chrome delete waiting to be installed when the weather gets nice. I've been screaming for years about car manufacturers use of chrome. I should send my bill to Honda. Why do I have to pay to fix their mistake.

It really does take some getting used to, but once you’ve developed your technique it isn’t so bad - makes me want to try my hand at wrapping 😉

I bought a vinyl roll was about to do it in winter but I think I’ll wait till summer lol
I got my grill wrapped by someone else and now it’s starting to bubble so this time I think I’ll do it myself thanks for the how to and happy new year

I would do this if a company offered a black chrome wrap that matches the front grille on my 2021 Sport 2.0T.
There are various pre-cut wraps available for the front chrome grill 👍

I have the same problem with the chrome, including the black chrome. I wonder if a mild polishing compound would help, or only make it worse 🤷♂️
Can you use a lubricant?
The vinyl does not require water to apply.

No it would not. The vinyl is intended to be applied dry.

Yes, I decided to go with the gloss black to match the B-pilars.

I don't think so, as you'd end up with a crease where the two meet.

You can either buy small rolls of vinyl or cruxmotor sells them by the piece.
