  • How to Make Save space in a Carry-On:
    When you pack in a carry-on, you can either make more space, or you can save more space. Do you hear the difference?
    One way of packing travel essentials allows you to fit more in, and if you think of how you pack in a different way, you can make more space in your suitcase. I know that sounds like a lot to take in, or you think I am telling you the same thing. But I am not. Most travelers do not think of packing with the way they learn or their mindset. With my tips about space in your suitcase, I may change the way you’ve always thought about packing and open you up to more creative ideas.

    She’s right. The more videos you watch of her packing tips the smarter you become about packing…but most of all it becomes less stressful!
    Watch her videos over and over weeks before your trip and start putting some of the ideas you like together. You will amaze yourself when it’s time to pack.
    You will now be a packing pro. 🌹

    I've noticed that the long thin rectangle packing cubes will line up side by side in my backpack. It will squish a mass of stuff in it, but still allow you to select and easily repack things without disasters.

    Instead of laying your clothes down in a suitcase, fold them where they wil stand up, (you can fold all your clothing this way) and pack them that way. It's a great way to see all the clothes you have in your suitcase. This way also allow you to get one item out without taking out other clothing.
    This way of packing is also better than using packing cubes, because you can pack a lot more clothes by using this method. It's also cheaper.
    There are videos on the stand up clothes folding myself.

    I have a tip of sorts that has helped me pack more compactly. I take along a couple of valet trays ... they pack flat so don’t take up much room, but when I get to my room, I snap the corners together to make a tray ... then I can pour my tiny filled makeup bag (or bathroom sundries) into one tray for the duration of my stay. Now I don’t have to dump my makeup onto the bed or desk while applying and/or pack & repack my makeup multiple times during my stay! The other tray I use for receipts, jewelry, etc. It’s one of my “can’t live without” ... along with those (small) packing cubes!

      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sandra, such Good ideas. Thank you for sharing. So how do you pack your makeup for the bag? Love those packing cubes too.

      I go very minimalistic ... I used to use a VB pencil case, now I’ve kinda moved to some clear bags, about the same size, not as attractive/fun to look at, but a whole lot more convenient ... you can see what’s inside instead of opening all my mini bags (makeup, bathroom sundries, jewelry, first aid, etc.) I can see which one I want (Amazon, clear pencil case, 8 for $14) and these are more flat than the VB round cases so they fit lined up between all the workings of the roller bars. Makeup & lotions ... I usually put small supplies into those 5 or 10 ml (Beauticom) jars. (btw I am a container collector/hoarder) I’d rather take 2 small jars and distribute between my carryon & tote and if I buy too many souvenirs I can throw the empty one away, making more room. (ps I do travel carryon & tote only ... even if going away for a month!). Then I have a mini plastic makeup spatula so I don’t have to get makeup under my nails! Sometimes I even scrape some eye shadow into those jars, especially if I have a palette but only like one color! I have my face tattooed (permanent eye liner ... wish I had done that earlier in life ... it’s wonderful!) so I don’t have to take liner. I’m allergic to mascara, so I get (heavy!) lash extensions applied before I leave. I take an assortment of creams & oils in small containers and switch amongst them. I have the Global Entry card so I don’t have to pull out my liquids here in the US ... by the time I’m coming home from international travel, some of the containers are empty and I have no trouble fitting them into a quart sized bag if necessary. Not sure I answered your question ... unfortunately 1,000 words equals one picture, haha.

    I use zip lock bags instead of packing cubes so that I can use them for other purposes while I’m at my destination. You can squeeze the air out as you zip them closed and they form a vacuum seal compressing your clothes to save space. They also are waterproof so you don’t have to worry about spillage of liquids.

    Found your tips very interesting. I use compression bags or cubes and will probably be switching to cube compression bags when I start traveling again. I don't have problems fitting things in the suitcase using the cubes or compression bags. However I do have to watch the weight of my suitcase since it is tempting to start putting more things in the bag because one has more room due to compressing things down or organizing. That's why I have to have a hand held luggage scale to keep myself and baggage in check! I like using plastic zip lock bags to hold toiletries, makeup, prescriptions, vitamins, sewing kit, first aid items, etc. since the bags are see through and can be thrown away after usage. Plus if secuirty needs to dive into my suitcase to see something everything can be seen through the zip lock bags. I guess people pack their shoes together because the shoes are a "pair" (a couple) and one shoe might feel lost or lonely without its life-long partner! Just joking!😉

    You are so right that the 1st thing is to check the weather. 2nd, choose shoes. For me, I coordinate from feet up. In neutrals and denim. Browns, or black/gray. 2/3 shoes, day bag, and evening clutch as a pouch in suitcase, and bottoms all coordinate. Plan a wardrobe of mix-n-match, like the black top you spoke of. Accessories make an outfit. Walking sandals to flats to boots can change an outfit.

    Thank you for this video, Laurie! Oh, I hope you sit down and read all I’m writing, today the travel/packing bug is freaking annoying LOL
    I agree 100% with you about packing the shoes separately. Also I like to fill my shoes with socks and underwear.
    Compression packing cubes were a game changer for me.
    I’m a skincare enthusiast but I pair down my toiletries to the minimum and decant everything, except my sunscreen, to avoid exposing it to air and light. Skincare samples are also my friend here, I hoard those. I don’t bring my whole skincare routine, just my toner, hyaluronic acid, moisturizer and spf. If I have the space I decant my caffeine eye cream. Samples of cleansers and makeup remover and that’s “it”.
    I bring clothes that I can wash “there” and reuse almost everything.
    It’s incredible how every trip I pack less, if I run out of something, I can get it there.
    Have a great weekend!

    Laurie, John from Australia, again. Good tips as always.
    The day before going home, get your laundry done.
    It will be clean and flat folded, to save space and taking home dirty laundry.
    Most Asian locations have laundry services near hotels (don't use the hotel service, only the bag!).
    Hotels usually use these places too and mark up the prices!
    The cat and dog are just making sure your advice is sound!! Be well.....JM

    I can't believe that your quarantine is almost over! When I started watching I thought it would never end, and you two would go crazy, because I would if I didn't have access to the outside. I actually think it's criminal to not give you a room with a balcony. If you ever shop at Aldi, they have great Prosecco for $8.99. It's called Belletti.

    • @TravelTipsbyLaurie
      @TravelTipsbyLaurie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have thought about this. If you do not click wheelchair when you buy your ticket, you can request someone right when you walk into the airport. Just know that in the summer it's super crowded, and you may have to wait 30 mins for someone to be available. Just add a few extra minutes to go through security, and you should be fine. You'll be the first one on the airplane, but you may be the last one off depending on the airline.

    Ok here’s my question for you Laurie!! We are flying to NOLA in May and finally at 54 I’m flying first class!! Got a great price during COVID! If they are filling the plane from back to front, will there still be overhead space for us in first class?? Don’t they have their own overhead bins? Good question! Aullie loves being with me and Nathan haha. He wants Nathan to love him so bad. If we do not get on, we wait for the next and next and next. I've been in the denver airport for so many hours when I had a toddler, stroller, car seat, suitcase and backpack. It's awful when you don't get on. Then we will go to an hotel and spend the night or go home if at our base or find another flight to another city. Thank you for watching!
