  • I am sharing long haul flight essentials and travel accessories like compression leggings, a neck pillow - any item you need in the airplane that would fit in your backpack, duffel bag or carryon suitcase. A long-haul flight is any flight over 5 hours in an airplane. For us, flying to Europe, Italy or maybe Alaska are long haul flights. The number one travel item for a long haul flight is compression leggings or compression socks. Compression helps with circulation. I also show an excellent travel neck pillow for long-haul flights. thank you for visiting my Travel Tips by Laurie channel. #longhaulflight #travel #compressionleggings #compressionsocks #traveltoeurope

    Important health tip for a long haul flights I have not seen any one mention. flights these days 12 hours + are not uncommon. Please please take a couple of aspirins before departure to avoid blood clotting. This is precautionary but consider what one could be saved off. Happy landings

    • @islandboy4445
      @islandboy4445 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@rosella1919 Thank you! Agreed. Also, I'd like to add, to have potassium with you would be a less dangerous option anyway. Taking aspirin randomly if you don't have a condition that requires it for treatment is dangerous. Potassium is an electrolyte that we already require (and most people are deficient in these days, at least in the US), that also naturally lowers blood pressure (and thins the blood).
      The blood pressure meds thing would apply to potassium, too. Willy nilly trying to thin blood without doctor supervision is so dangerous.

    Instead of the little freeze packs, I freeze a water bottle to place in my cooler bag to keep my food cold. As long as it is completely frozen you can take it through security. I do tell the TSA agents I have the frozen bottles in advance so they know what they're seeing. Bonus is as it thaws on a long flight, you have water to drink.

    Hello Laurie. You're so right about buying travel sizes of toiletries. They aren't good value. But, for anyone who has bought them, it's worth washing the containers when they are empty and refilling them. The same applies to the bottles for the hotel toiletries that we all take away. As we've all been using so much hand sanitizer these past few years, it's worth bearing in mind that the small sizes are probably okay for carry on luggage. Again, wash them when they are empty and you have squeezable containers for whatever liquid you want to carry. Just remember to relabel them!

    About compression socks/hose/sleeves . . . you might check with a vascular specialist (vein doctor). After vein surgery my doctor instructed me to check the amount of compression - it varies - and to be sure the compression is at my ankles and lower calves. The point of compression hose is to help the blood return from your feet to your torso. Compression at/above your knees might not be accomplishing your goal. AND THEY CAN MAKE YOU HOT!

    You have some great tips! Thanks for sharing. I also bring a small bottle of an essential oil in my backpack and always wear a scarf on the plane. I can put a drop of the essential oil on the scarf so if there is any unpleasant smells on the plane you can sniff the scarf. Also, the scarf can be used to cover if you are a bit chilly on the plane.

    Hi Laurie, I really enjoy your videos and even though I’ve traveled quite a bit I still get a some good ideas from you that I have not tried myself. One travel hack that we use, is to put the name and address of the hotel of our destination on our luggage tag. That way if the airline looses it they will know exactly where the suitcase needs to be delivered.
    Then we change it when we return home. We simply take out the card with the address of the hotel and flip it around with our home address on it and slip that into our luggage tag. This way if our luggage gets lost on the way home they will have a home address and will know exactly where to deliver it. We also put the information in our luggage in case the luggage tag gets ripped off.

      I'm traveling in winter so I'm also thinking my scarf would do the job if I tried it in a little knot.

    • @hankandgreta
      @hankandgreta 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not sure I would want my scarf that touches my face to be that close to the airplane seat or tray table, as that tends to be a very germ ridden area. Plus, I don’t have to take my shoes off using something like a yoga strap, as I don’t use it for my yoga class, just for travel.

      Would a six-foot or 8 foot work better?

    • @hankandgreta
      @hankandgreta 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Denise Hazell I guess that would depend on the setup of the tray table on the plane you are in and how far off the ground you want your feet. I think adjustability is key.

    The Dirt makes a powder toothpaste that works pretty well and tastes good. I also found exfoliating scrub sponges impregnated with shave cream that do not count as a liquid. Solid lotion bars also don’t count. I just bought a packable lightweight puffer jacket for our winter trip to Europe, travel size eye shadow brushes in a tiny case and a small refillable perfume sprayer that only holds 5 ;mls. (both at Marshall’s) I love great travel packing videos!

    Hey Laurie! Thanks for the fun tips. About those squeeze pods -- I agree, weighing whether you want your own toiletries or to use the hotel ones is better. I ordered a variety set of squeeze pods and the fragrance was really strong and not something I could see us using. Just my opinion, I do like fragrance but these were "off" or too strong for our needs. Love your long-haul flight outfits, looking good! Cheers!

I actually like it better because it is thin silicone square and the ring is thin and folds down. Also since this video your towel is no longer available, but several low cost ones are available. Apps are available where you can color on the pictures. It is not exactly the same as the real thing, but I find it just as soothing.

    Love your videos. They are so helpful! We live in the Midwest U.S., also. Our daughter & her husband lived in Hawaii for 3 yrs & they just moved to Germany & will be there 4 yrs. So we have taken, & will continue to take, long flights. Question, could you do a video on the common fears of flying? I actually took an online course on how to not be afraid of flying. The pilot explained how to know when turbulence might occur (if I recall, the nice pretty fluffy clouds are indicators that turbulence might be ahead) & he also reassured the student that the plane wings will not fall off in flight & why. And there were other anti-fear of flying tips he shared. :-)

It's in a solid form in a little tin or a stick (similar application to a deodorant), and comes in SPF 50 as both regular and a tinted one. I travel once or twice a year to Asia, 16-hour travel time, including the lay overs. It can at times take 20-30 hours depending on your connecting flights. I have clothes/ underwears etc. ready in a compression bags for travelling ready to go in the check-in luggage. And also a set of change of clothes in my personal bag. For personal carry-on, I bring with me the disposable deodorants from Pacifica that you can buy from Target. Airlines, provide you with toothbrush and toothpaste, so I do not worry, about that. I make sure I bring with me for the flight, sachet samples of moisturizers, a small bottle of toner and disposable make-up remover that I use as soon as I get ready to sleep. Lipgloss is a must, as it gets dry inside the airplane. I travel on economy, but airlines will provide you with disposable sleepers, and if they don’t, you can ask one of the stewardess for one. Last time I travelled was in March of 2020. Airlines to Asia on Economy still does not have the capability of bluetooth headset. I always carry my own old one from Apple. Never forget to bring disenfectant wipes….very important. I never use the airline blankets, I spread it on the floor and put my personal bag on it. When it is cold I use my big scarf. I also bring with me a nice squizzable neck pillow that came with a bag (can be attached to my personal bag, this I bought in Korea during one of my lay overs). I wear addidas tight pants and jackets with hoodies. I found that tight bottom pants is important specially when you use the toilets of the airplanes, to keep your pants from touching the floor. I find that Compression footless tights more comfortable. Individual pack disposable hygienic wipes, hand wipes a must. I use a small pill organizer that I bought in TJMaxx for my jewelry and use two of the days for my medicine and vitamin to use for while I in transit. I carry my favorite shampoo and conditioners in sachet when I travel, If I stay for longer that 2 weeks in a place, I just buy a bottle of shampoo and conditioner when i reach my destination, and not bring back with me. For travelling to Europe, I only use a Travelon purse or backpack, or if not I attached a nice clasp hook on the zippers like I did in most of my Tumi’s. I mostly travel alone, For safety, My husband and I travel separately. So I always have a small crossbody bag enough to put in my passport, ids and money that I can bring with me if I need to get up. So much more that I do and prepare for my trips ….. Oh before I forget, I also bring a Vick’s inhaler with me, and essential oil for headache (just in case, you know). Travelling is fun and I always look forward to it…. Sad that we can’t during this time. Hoping for 2022.

    Good nformation as usual. I just bought some little tiny cases to put little pieces of jewelry in them for my trip to Europe Tuesday actually. October 2019. Laurie, I love all of your TH-cam videos. But I have a question. I just bought a quart sized (re)zip brand bag for my TSA liquids bag from the Container Store. It has a fabric zipper and the edges are reinforced with fabric. I love that the plastic is quite soft. However, the plastic is not totally transparent. It is a little translucent (SLIGHTLY cloudy). On the website, it said it was TSA compliant. The tag on the bag says the same. You can see the items inside, but not quite as clearly as the other kinds of plastic. Do you think that this will be an issue going through security?
