  • These windshields come glued in from the factory and they are a nightmare to replace. I found a generic seal on eBay, unsure if it was even going to work. Fingers crossed. Oh yeah, and my windshield is already broken.
    Here's a link to the seal I bought

    I totally appreciate that it took 7 tries and three people to do this, and that you included those pertinent facts! Makes me respect the installer that shows up all alone in some parking lot all the more too.

    Great video thanks! I’ve got a 1985 Toyota SR5 4wd pickup. I’m probably gonna get the eBay from Thailand gasket similar to the one you got. Did you use any 3m weatherstrip glue/sealant around the outside at all? I talked to a local glass place near me and they said aftermarket rubber weatherstripping doesn’t work for these trucks but you show that it can be done. That’s awesome. Thanks

    You do not need to remove the dash to get that lower plate off. Unbolt it and drill out the 5 spot welds and it lifts write off. My truck is a 86 if that makes any difference.

    Love your collection. I have an 1984 toyota pickup, 2wd. Longbed. And I recently had my front window broken. I had it replaced. But after messing with the chrome paneling for about a month after the person who replaced it broke some of my clips. I've decided to do the same thing with my window. Are you still satisfied with the install? Seal works good? I think its a huge upgrade from the chrome. Just curious on how its holding.

      Thanks! Yes im still happy with the rubber. All my trucks leak no matter what i seem to do, but i dont believe its leaking from the windshield on this truck anymore. Id say go for it. Its much better than the chrome. Especially if you live under trees, where they shed and get debris under the chrome trim. Good luck!

      It's good quality, but I've only had it on for a couple months. So far so good. I'm very pleased with it. Still getting leaks through some of the seam sealer in some hard to reach areas, but the windshield is still sealing in the rain.

    Ospho is a combination of solvents and phosphoric acid. It converts iron III oxide into iron phosphate, which is a black colour. By creating a non-water permeable barrier, oxygen is no longer able to react with iron. Water catalyses the reaction between iron and oxygen by holding water in solution. Because iron slakes so bad when it rusts, water is able to penetrate the oxidized layers, further worsening the issue in a cyclical manner. I forgot to put the clips in behind the windshield under the urethane when I replaced the windshield. Jesus Christ Toyota this and the fucking bed/frame rust issues. Now I gotta cut a bunch of urethane away and stick the clips in. The chrome trim is seriously retarded. Bends super easy. I had the same rust problems between the clips and the a pillar. Just used some touch up paint. I don’t know how to get the trim to fit back in. If I could just get it to fit then I’d glue the shit. Should just leave it off.

    • @legacynorthwest1249
      @legacynorthwest1249  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I'm glad I have the seal in there instead of the urethane. The bed rust isn't Toyota's fault. Because of the chicken tax, the beds were built primarily in California, and put on in America after shipping the trucks over here. American steel was inferior to Japanese steel. Facts for facts, thanks for posting!

      LegacyNorthWest honestly I’m sad too that Toyota stopped making these mini trucks. Now their Tacoma’s are the size of my old t100. That thing was a long box truck too, full 8 feet! I’m gonna cut the urethane back and stick some clips in behind the windshield when warmer weather comes. Wish I’d of found your video before I decided to glue it in!
