Only Rich can make a 35 minutes long video on something as boring as replacing a windshield so enjoyable. The guy is definition of a professional. Bravo!
As an autoglass installer of 10 years, I have to say this video is spot on. 100% accurate information and the true "right way" to install. Good job Kiss autoglass.
Rich's attention to detail ensures the job is done right each and every time- a sign of a true professional. Thank You Rich for sharing a unique skill set.
As far as I know, the Betaprime 5504G Primer that he was using in the video is capable of bonding and sealing to bare metal. Usually when we get a rust spot on pinch welds, we grind off all the rust, clean the metal, then seal it with that Primer product to ensure the rust won’t be an issue anymore. It’s the same with any body work on metal parts of the body. If the rust isn’t dealt with, it’s going to keep creeping under the paint and corrode further through the metal and cause more problems down the road.
I’ve been in the business 25 years and watched this video in hopes he could show me an easier way to reinstall the two a-pillar moldings but we do it exactly the same way so I’m thinking there isn’t another way. The a-pillar moldings on this car or some of the worst designed in the business but that’s just the way it is. There are a few more details concerning the a-pillar moldings that had to be done before reinstalling them that were not shown in this video that make this car a real pain in the pooper. The rest of the windshield job is straightforward and simple. He did a great job and uses old school cold knife techniques like I do. Old school is still good. Well done!
Totally agree. I just got mine replaced professionally but the columns are a little loose towards the bottom, consequently The rubber gaskets are not pressed tight against the glass. Probably the plastic clips are broken or not holding properly. Anyway I am taking it back so they can fix it. Definitely it has to be a proper way to reinstall them.
@user-cg7jp7jt4v all cars have a pillars but not all have a pillar moldings. The a pillar is the left and right vertical posts that go up from the hood to the roof. The big plastic moldings on this car have a complicated clip system that attaches it to the body of the car and covers the edge of the windshield. Stupid design on this one. One of the worst.
😊 yeah its alot harder when u try it urself, theres a certain technique in doing this correctly, if ur a noob expect it to get really messy with the urethane, heehee 😏
That was one of the nicest professionals I ever saw working. Even my uncle doing "similar" work doesn't have the patience to answer a single question to his customers, not even mentioning talking to camera. Simply cool! Both of you!!
I work at a body shop and see this done almost daily. This guy knows his stuff. The only caveat I have about this install is the rust. It is very hard to stop and will eventually cause the windshield to leak and/or crack. There are a lot of hacks out there. But Eric has picked one of the good guys. Nice job!
Thank you Eric for such a great video. Please tell Rich that he is one of the most intelligent, articulate and skilful professionals I have ever seen at work, in any profession. I'm so impressed by his knowledge and the way he imparts it in front of the camera. Well done!!!
GLB Productions I also agree. Just watching Rich illustrates to me that I need to find a new "glass guy". You can tell the quality is there. My windshield leaks in the driver's corner and you can easily look through the glass from the outside and see the path of water infiltration right through the sealer. I liked the advert for Kiss Auto Glass at 15:42 (you can use that as a customer testimonial on your website)! Do you recycle the old windshield? Just remember don't bring a long knife to a caulk gun fight! That is some gun!
***** Completely true! That is one of the reasons why I service my car by myself or with a friend. There are still a few things that I am really "afraid" of. One is the AC and the other is glass.
Good job ! I have 40 years as an installer plus management. Good to see the old way of installing. I remember pushing with my head what a pain. When the eq came in the 90's it was the greatest thing to happen to save the body. I am 65 and still install well stop some day. Getting to craze with all teck in the glass now. I always loved my job and still do.
It's funny the people trying to pick this install a part. Mr. Kiss installed the glass properly. I can assure you that you don't find many that will take some of the measures he took to do a great job. I have been doing it for 16 years of my 36 years of life. I've had no training other than someone showing me how to remove and replace the glass. They didn't fix scratches or rust, check body seams, or anything. Just cut it out and shoot a bead and stick it in. I had enough common sense to figure out bare metal will rust with water standing around the pinch weld for days after rain. I had to learn a lot of what Rich just showed you by trial and error. Any newer installers should be thankful for this video to teach them the proper way to do this job. If i had installed this glass, it would look almost exactly like the procedure rich used, step by step. I do a lot of wholesale glass replacement for car dealers and body shops. I'm pretty much the "cheap guy" they refer to in a lot of these videos. I really wish some of these shops wouldn't lump us into a category hacks just because of our price. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it isn't done right. I know it happens with cheaper sbops but I see a lot of the so called "pros" $300 install that's not up to par as well. I also hear a lot of the TH-cam guys talking about oem quality glass. I'm noticing most all windshields are made poorly now. I use pilkington glass as much as possible but sometimes a car dealer is not willing to pay enough to get it so I will use a cheaper Chinese glass as long as they know up front what they're getting. For the record, a lot of the glasses used by the manufacturers now are Chinese glasses. There really isn't a glass made that is superior to all others and I've used them all. Anyway, good job Rich. It's good to see someone else in this profession that takes pride in their work as do I. Good luck in the future.
They're not they used to be for sure. I rarely had any problems until about 5 years ago. I'm not really crazy about any of them now. It's getting harder to find quality glass now. Especially in tempered glass. ATI is about the worst imo.
He did it 99% right, he did not remove those mouldings right, you push them in towards the glass not just rip them off, that's why they were so loose after
How does FYG glass compare to Pilkington? I'm concern about the fit and thickness. An auto place mentioned PGW. How does PGW compare with the other 2 brands? Does it matter if the company is not AGSC certified? One company was Dinitrol certified. Is that equivalent to being AGSC certified?
My Tacoma had a windshield replacement before I got it, but they scraped most of the paint off as they removed the old sealer, and only put new sealer on the bare metal, about 6 years after I got it, it started all rusting out, I took out the windshield, scraped, sanded, wire brushed, then SAND BLASTED,every inch, to get the rust out of the pits, then 2 coats of epoxy primer, 2 coats of urethane primer, then 2 coats urethane top coat, waited 3 days Then installed a new windshield, To much work, so if there is nothing wrong with the old sealer, and no rust, leave it and do what Kiss did. Good VIDEO, thanks William
Great job of installing the new glass, everybody needs to be good at something and Rich appears to be an amazing installer. Years of experience and really pays attention to the details to avoids trouble later and makes customers very satisfied with his work. Thanks Eric.
I have been working for Auto Glass Now for 3 days so far and i love it. I have my moments where I get irritated but at the end of the day when im done. I leave knowing I did a great job. Take your time. Absolutely always ask questions. Especially being the new guy. If you make a mistake do not ignore it. Go back and fix it. Good luck and god bless you ❤😇
I've been a professional windshield installer for over 15yrs this video is great. Very professional, very detailed i would have loved to work with that guy. He is so right price is not the way to go.
Overall, this was a pretty good install. There are a few things I would recommend changing, but this is quality work! My ideas I offer would be: Invest in some quality suction cups. We use them, and it helps with the installation process of the job. You can grab the cups and not have to worry about the glass going anywhere, or getting your hands on the primed area. DOW has a primer that works on both glass and metal now. It's amazing stuff, and works wonders. They also have a urethane equivalent to Express called ONE. Which has the same set time, but adheres to aluminum better and doesn't interfere with radio signal if it's an issue. I would use paper towels instead of a rag to wipe pinch welds down, and a different towel to wipe the dash. And a 30 minute job is quite possible, if you have 2 people who are working on it at the same time. That's how our shop works, and we consistently get jobs done in 25-45 minutes. Some faster than others. Other than that, this was a pretty solid install, and I would love to work for this company if I was in the area.
So I would not have you do an install for me. You obviously do not treat rust issues and neither does Rich. That alone is reason enough that this is a very bad install.
as a technician I am glad he advocate's taking your time! anyone doing a windshield in 30 minutes or less is definitely cutting corners or compromising quality
Thank you so much for this video. I started my business a few months ago and everyone is asking me to replace. And Rich was correct there arent any schools or classes around here that teach how to do this. I will be stocking up on the correct tools and supplies to do this right, because the name of the game is quality and safety for the customers.
Rich Kiss, Performed an excellent installation, you can tell he's got several years of experience. Other than protecting the hood and a windshield wiper inspection it was all performed perfectly.
You have the "best" video's. Informative, humble, and funny. Keep up the great work! Some people fear the release of information regarding their trade. I think it simply gives a good appreciation for somebody's experience, time and energy. I sure as hell won't want to do this twice if I have a leak. Call the professionals. You're like the new Mr. Rodgers, taking us on tours and talking with people about something special. Thanks for doing this. I'd much rather watch good reality than listen to the garbage coming out of traditional media sources. I'd vote for you!
Its nice to see someone actually do a proper job in their profession, so many mechanics/autoglass technicians etc just try to take advantage of its customers and do a cheap quick crappy repair.
Addictive_LiquoriCe Oi, put a scratch in a rim while taking off a car? Normal. Suddenly if it's a BMW or a Mercedes the world is at an end. Tire machines ALWAYS scratch rims. Keeping it minor and unobvious is all you can do. We apologized to one BMW owner and I took the time to compliment him on his car because he actually takes care of it, and after the scratch he tipped me! Cool guy. :)
This reminds me of a friend of mine who is a machinist. He got to work one day and his boss had a mold already set up in the mill. His boss told him " that's a $90,000 dollar mold, don't scratch it".
I was borrowing a friends 92 Mighty Max and a rock hit the windshield The Glassmen said the glass wasn't available so I found one in junkyard for 35 bucks and removed with piano wire trick. Asked Glassmen if they could install they said 200 clams just for labor. So I watched this video and ordered the supplies online and replaced windshield this morning, it went well and I saved a lot of dough. It took,me longer than it would have taken a pro but at least i didnt have to pay those pirates Thank you so much guys
Eric I'm so glad that you did a video on removing and installing auto glass! I've been wondering what the correct tools and procedures were to replacing a windshield for some time now. Thank you and as always I'll stay dirty! 😎
Many thanks to Eric for filming this and the company for allowing it to be filmed. Love the humor with the clear windshield. On BMWs (E30 at least) it's just a gasket and no adhesive. I replaced one on my old 86' 530i.
I liked the video, there aren't too many people who know what goes into windshield installation. There's always gonna be someone who knows everything about everything, like some of the commenters here. Sure, there's some things I may do differently, but we all have our own technique. Experience is the best teacher, and I can see that you have done many a shield. Unfortunately, in today's society, the focus is more on getting it done quick as you can, as opposed to a good quality, take your time, and do it right mentality. I've been doing shields just as long, and it was fun to watch this, because I do most of what you did the same way. And like you said, you can tell when it's been done poorly, it happens, and sometimes it makes your job a little more involved, and the people that say they know a guy who can get it done in a half hour, don't know jack about installing windshields, just sayin'
Thank you Chris, Kyle, and Eric. Great video! I believe there's enough great information here to help those DIY-ers who want to do it right while helping those who shouldn't try it to not try it. It's not as easy as it looks.
Hi Eric, like the video that you put out .Ricks attention to detail is spot on. I have been doing glass for 30 years and my procedure is the same. We are professionals at what we do, and customers safety is number 1 priority .I am going back into the trade due to the fact that the wife retired from her job. Keep up with the really good videos. Very informative.
Just a 21 year old kid in automotive schools opinion that's done a few windshield. I give that man alot of credit....i hate doing windshields.get that guy a beer.
One time at a rally i saw a civic that boke its winshield in the previous stage borrow an evo winshield from a friendly team (probably 6 - 8 inches wider than the stock civic windshield), they used something like 6 rolls of duct and gorilla tape and somehow got the safety inspectors to ok it... was a beautiful thing.
Comprehensive masterclass and professionally done from A to Z with friendly manner. I watched this one after I replaced my windshield in a repair shop that I felt they did it amateur thing for 55$ in Iraq, not satisfied as they didn’t use the whole procedure and materials as seen here, we lack professionals in Iraq, I hope American automotive professionals invest in creating their business in Iraq, profitable, I’m also an automotive geek, if you thought about Iraq, let me know, I might need you as an employee for my thought-of automotive garage!!!
Just for clarification... tempered glass is not designed to keep you from getting cut. It's designed to keep you from getting IMPALED! When you have large sheets of glass that are not tempered they can break off into very sharp, large, triangular pieces that could potentially impale an occupant. ANY glass will cut you, whether it's tempered or not.
couple of time I had my windshield replaced. The installer said to me. For a proper cure, to turn on the defrost on heat. Is that a standard practice? It wasn't mentioned on this show.
My neighbor owns his own auto glass business and I got to work with him many times. Everything that was showed in this video is how I learned it, except when installing the glass we would put suction cups on it and drop it into place.
One thing not mentioned is that the W/S is an integral part of the structure of the vehicle and actually part of the SRS. When an airbag blows, the W/S has the job of remaining intact and deflecting the passenger bag towards the occupant. A good quality urethane is absolutely necessary.
Audioquest56 Some vehicles also need the windscreen as a crutch for the roof in a roll over, bad prepping and seal can cause the screen to detach and the roof to collapse more and can cause injury to the occupants of the vehicle.
Audioquest56 Yep, I have seen all the testing and real world results and a good windscreen replacement can literary be the difference between life and death.
***** Thanks for your comment. AGAIN. I had no idea. Somethings you have hear multiple times to learn them. Ya know. I've seen some movie crashes with great window installation and very poor installation. It definitely makes a difference in rollovers. Movies are not a great place to learn much, but some of the vehicles they crash are legitimate and not just props. Chuck Norris was big on that on his Texas Ranger show. Using the real items in the crashes. Sure for some spectacular crashes they'd use hidden ramps and things.
I see Safelite windshield replacement ads on TV every 5 minutes. They charge $350-450 to replace windshields. I take my cars to a place that charges $90 and it only takes them 20 minutes. Safelite is grossly overcharging people. I guess they need to pay for non-stop television ads. #crooks Interesting video. Thanks!
28:32 Now I know why Walter White's car had the tape on the windshield of his car. You learn something new everyday, lol. This guy was pretty cool, very informative and professional, also the camera didn't seem to bother him. Hope he gets a lot of work, he deserves it.
I need to get my windshield replaced. I'm mistrustful of my options... wish I could just bring it to you guys! Thanks for helping to educate me on the process - knowing a tiny bit more can hopefully help me make a more educated decision on who to take my car to...
Thanks for a great and informative video from you both I was using my friends 1992 Mitsubishi Mighty Max unfortunately I was driving on the highway and a stone from a dump truck hit the windshield completely cracking it I tried to get the windshield and glass companies we're telling me that this windshield wasn't available the two of them that did have the windshield wanted over $400 to do the job so I went to the junkyard and found a windshield for $35 I removed it using the piano wire trick and it worked like a charm I watch this video ordered all of the supplies I needed online and replace the windshield myself and it was easy thank you for helping me and others by making this video
tasty2choc Not always a 2 man job, depends on the size of the windscreen, and if it was replaced already, if so the tech could have shot a huge bead of glue and that makes the cutout process irritating. Still love the autoglass business though!
Great craftsmanship, and awesome demonstration or this matter. I have rust problem near my windshield on my 93 Chevy G30 Sports van. I was doing research to correct this, but needed to know the proper way to install the windshield with gusto!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING! AND THANK YOU "KISS AUTO GLASS" FOR GIVING THE OPPORTUNITY OF THEIR EXPERTISE.
Thanks a lot Eric for such a great video and thanks a lot to the "extremely professional and accurate" Rich from Kiss Auto Glass. I find this video particularly really helpful; because, nowadays, windshield replacement is "rarely" done right. I know a lot of friends who replaced their windshields at "cheap auto glass shops", where they got thugs from the streets replacing their windshields causing water leaks, deep grooves into vehicles' frames, rust, etc., which, in turn, forced their vehicles eventually into the junkyard.
Richard Kiss Its not easy to find someone as dedicated as you thease days, bad companys ruin the customers trust in professionals, to be able to trust someone is valuable :-)
Richard Kiss I need a new W/S...not due to cracks, but due to 23 years worth of scratches and pitting scars from blowing sand. Sorry I am in SC. A little to long a drive....Very informative great video!
Richard Kiss He always gives the best compliments and they're sincere and true. +zx8401ztv Have we seen you around before you Ericthecarguy's channel comments?
You've learned a lot of How to ask Questions, very good! Rich is a no nonsense Professional well worth his Skill master of sets, top shelf Craftsman. Best interview on TH-cam! Rich you'll never be without Money. Thanks.
I took out my first windshield recently… was an original windshield from a 2006 Texas car. Went into it planning on using the wire method, but ran into literal snags because it was a completely smashed up hail dmg one. Ended up doing it with the cold knife/razor blade on the 17” stick; the razor blade was the real champ for an affordable price. Another tool I used was an oscillating tool with a “sealant blade”. It worked well for me on the a-pillars, but don’t recommend it for a beginner on a windshield that you don’t want to dmg. (Mine was smashed, and needed recycling.) + if can easily scratch paint if not controlled. Also had issues certain areas of a smashed windshield. Depending on the type of vehicle it can be difficult to use the cold knife shaped like an ; mine was a vw beetle, and the exterior trim is just painted metal without much room for the blade. Also the harbor freight cheap cold knife blade wasn’t long enough to cut through the adhesive all the way in some spots.
being an "assistant" grabbing tools cleaning glass etc.this guy didn't get into detail just kept it simple when he was explaining it. sorry for being a comment hog but this guy reminds me of my early days learning with my dad n Shit good times good vid.
its good to see someone who knows what there doing...do it the right way....i never knew closing the car door could possibly cause a leak...gr8 video guys
dude that rust spot could Have been cleaned up in five minutes with a mini angle grinder. plus don't bash all the other guys. your not the only good guy out there.
As a glass tech. I just want to say he did a good job but still did not do everything correctly. First was using the long knife to trim the excess urethane on the sides of the windshield before running the cold knife down it, although it does make it easier. It causes a deep gouge in the metal beneath it. Second was trimming the urethane before cleaning, you're supposed to clean the pinch welds before you trim the urethane. Which helps eliminate foreign chemicals which may cause adhesion problems. Third was the rust, the rust should have been cleaned down to bare metal, before being primed. Priming over the rust does not stop it. which will still eventually cause the windshield to leak. Speaking of the primer takes me to the fourth problem, which is the daubers he uses to apply the primer, 1 should only be used once and never dip twice into it. again causing cross-contamination what could ruin the primer. Now moving on to the "running of the urethane" you never want to seem in the middle of the glass at the top. you want to do one continuous bead when possible however you can't do it on every car. it is very easy. Less seems is less areas for possible leaks. Then using what's called a "pojo" you're supposed to smooth out your seams and make sure there are no gaps and or bubbles in the urethane before setting the glass. Other then that. Good job.
The newer the vehicle, the more crucial *PROPER* glass installation is. The glass has become a structural element of vehicle design and improperly installed glass can be dangerous. The glass plays a major structural component of rollover protection (see roof crush tests). Glass quality is also as important as the installation. Cheap glass can be both visually and structurally inferior to OEM glass. I'm in the collision repair industry and this is no place for amateurs or hacks. Don't cheap out of this job, be careful about who you let replace your glass. Shopping by price out of Craigslist is not the place to be...
ratbert86 The problem is that people are in many ways greedy. So are the glass companies. People wanting the cheapest price and companies wanting to charge the most with the cheapest output of materials ends up making some bad quality of work happen.
The best install I've seen. There is no repair I wince about having done more than the windshield other than the timing belt. The shop screwed up the last timing belt install and it wasn't any better after they replaced the tensioner pulley but charged me an additional $128 for the pulley. I should have gone to Honda. I'm not a hater but if you screw up for God's sake fix instead of blaming it on the customer.
yeah he broke the white ones off and didn't glue them back on so when he smacked them down you could see how loose they were, that car was definitely getting air nose from those loose trim pieces
For slamming the doors with a newly installed windshield, I have an idea about rolling down the windows first so air pressure won't build up in the car w/c would cause issues w/ the urethane, especially the cheaper ones. Then you could roll up the windows afterwards. I hope this helps. 👍🏼
overall I give him a 9 for good work ,priming his scratches and a uniform v bead, however a small amount of rust is an enormous problem! you can not simply prime over rust, that's like putting a bandaid on cancer! it needs to be sanded down to bare metal and then primed, otherwise the rust (cancer) is still decaying underneath the primer! and will eventually start leaking! this also effects the structural integrity of a vehicle and therefore would not meet ratings of a crash test or meet the manufacturers standards, the auto glass safety council ( the place that certifies auto glass technicians) would fail this Intallation!
Definately a bandaid and window will have to come out in the future. He should have sanded it down and at least use a rust converter so the rust does not spread. Great video install tho!
Thank you very much guys, I never spend more than 15 minutes in a video, but in this case it was a pleasure, you were not only funny but with a pretty good language. I always hear to many S's and F's and they think that's normal. Excellent presentation.
Wow! Gotta say, I was considering replacing the w/s on my wife's 2001 Expedition myself. After watching this video I am glad I took it to Safelite. Normally I do all my own work on our family vehicles. I've got a three bay shop and tons of tools. In this one case though, I think it was a good decision to farm it out! Eric, please pass my compliments on to Rich and Kyle. True pros in my opinion.
I can't afford to pay someone to replace my screen but I do have a spare one on another car that I can practice with, great video and all I need now is a glass removal kit and some good glue, in the UK there is a silicon branded RTV which says it is specifically for windscreens and is good up to 250C, looks like that's the best I can find for now. Thanks Eric and Rich for the much needed info.
i know of a windscreen that can be fitted by anyone, and can be done in 20 mins, land rover defender, why you might ask? because it uses a rubber seal and isn't bonded, downside? that rubber seal shouldn't be called a seal, it should be a called a sieve!
I used an adhesive that came in a coil with waxed paper between it in the coil. When you stick it on the window frame it sticks instantly and once you lay in the windshield and push it into the adhesive, it's down. Also the stuff never hardens. So stays flexible. Totally water proof. No caulk gun needed.
Only Rich can make a 35 minutes long video on something as boring as replacing a windshield so enjoyable. The guy is definition of a professional. Bravo!
ngl he is great at what he does :D

Jimmy Mac Thank you
As far as I know, the Betaprime 5504G Primer that he was using in the video is capable of bonding and sealing to bare metal.
@@richardkiss3842 why wouldn't you treat the rust with phosphorus I think?

It's not really hard.
😊 yeah its alot harder when u try it urself, theres a certain technique in doing this correctly, if ur a noob expect it to get really messy with the urethane, heehee 😏
I did it as a n00b. I rented the chaulk gun cause I'd create a mess otherwise. It was easy. Ford Focus 2002.

+bigredglass I have had more issues with Pilkington Glass than any other and I do 6 a day..Hate Pilk crap
How do I pick a good glass company?
This is the most informative 35 minutes I've spent on TH-cam. Thanks! Great video!
Good luck and god bless you ❤😇
as a fellow professional this man knows his stuff! Awesome job representing our profession.
I've been a professional windshield installer for over 15yrs this video is great. Very professional, very detailed i would have loved to work with that guy. He is so right price is not the way to go.
Overall, this was a pretty good install. There are a few things I would recommend changing, but this is quality work!
My ideas I offer would be:
Invest in some quality suction cups.
What was the spray he put on the glass at 23:20? Also, what was that highlighter thing he used after that?
That was glass cleaner, then he used a primer stick afterwards.
Never seen anyone use that sort of force on the side covers. He must ruin a lot of them. Other than that very good.
That is standard practice on Elements sorta, takes about that much force but you push in towards middle of the car.
It's funny how a subject that didn't seem very interesting when I saw the title ended up being a pretty informative video.
Thank you so much for this video. I started my business a few months ago and everyone is asking me to replace. And Rich was correct there arent any schools or classes around here that teach how to do this. I will be stocking up on the correct tools and supplies to do this right, because the name of the game is quality and safety for the customers.
He seriously look like Lieutenant Dan
lol
I just watch and said the same thing
Yes he does LOL
He sounds like him too.
Lmao I read it while thinking the same..
I helped our glass guy install a rear glass on a Bentley. This was a $2400 piece of glass(the dealership's cost) Talk about a scary day!
HumbleMechanic Aren't massively expensive cars just a heap of fun like that ;)
Addictive_LiquoriCe Oi, put a scratch in a rim while taking off a car?
Cool guy. :)
HumbleMechanic For sure. Scary day.
McLaren windshields are fun, they stress crack all the time and the cheapest one I’ve seen was 5000$
This reminds me of a friend of mine who is a machinist.
Derg Enterprises newer bmw models are adhesive, i love replacing e30 windsreens XD
Not bad! I like that he knew the answers to your questions without hesitation.
Hey! Thank you so much! This was a fun opportunity, I very much miss the experience!
I give that man alot of credit....i hate doing windshields.get that guy a beer.
nmattcar or 2
Or 3 or 4 or maybe a 6 pack
nmattcar But then he'd have as much stomach as his look alike Turbo Yoda.
Mr Eric and Mr Kiss, thank you for this very informative video. It's clear that Mr Kiss is a very knowledgeable person and an expert in his field.
That guy definitely knows what he's doing, I would definitely trust him installing my windshield
Ever wonder how to install a windshield? th-cam.com/video/Y2eG1_1Ed3M/w-d-xo.html
EricTheCarGuy Did you do the filming in this episode?
***** Tell me you saw this video and I'll give you a 10% discount
couple of time I had my windshield replaced. The installer said to me. For a proper cure, to turn on the defrost on heat. Is that a standard practice? It wasn't mentioned on this show.
Rafael A. Nieves They were probably using one of the cheaper urethane materials to glue the windshield in, so it needed higher temperatures to cure.
Rafael A. Nieves Some urethanes cure from heat and humidity, depends on the make of the glue. You don't really have to turn on the defroster
Audioquest56 Agreed!!!!!!!
Audioquest56 Some vehicles also need the windscreen as a crutch for the roof in a roll over, bad prepping and seal can cause the screen to detach and the roof to collapse more and can cause injury to the occupants of the vehicle.
Audioquest56 Wow, I had no idea. Structural integrity is supreme. Thanks for chiming in on this one Richard!
I'm installing my windshield today, so this video came in real handy. Thanks for posting it.
"you can't feed it after midnight" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Guillermo Lovato bright light, bright light
I see Safelite windshield replacement ads on TV every 5 minutes. They charge $350-450 to replace windshields. I take my cars to a place that charges $90 and it only takes them 20 minutes. Safelite is grossly overcharging people. I guess they need to pay for non-stop television ads. #crooks
Interesting video. Thanks!
Mr. Rich Kiss is GlassYoda. TurboYoda's american cousin!
Anyone? MightyCarMods + TopGear reference.
xglserver spot on mate!! ;)
Each time that I see one of your demo videos using a Honda Element, it makes me gladder that bought another one. Thanks Eric.
Great Job!! Very detailed! Wish Kiss Auto glass was in North Carolina.

Now I know why Walter White's car had the tape on the windshield of his car.
You learn something new everyday, lol.
This guy was pretty cool, very informative and professional, also the camera didn't seem to bother him. Hope he gets a lot of work, he deserves it.
s4n714g000 I'm not camera shy but put me in a room of 20 people that I don't know and ask me to speak.
Richard Kiss I think that happens to everyone really, it takes some getting used to.
I need to get my windshield replaced. I'm mistrustful of my options... wish I could just bring it to you guys! Thanks for helping to educate me on the process - knowing a tiny bit more can hopefully help me make a more educated decision on who to take my car to...
LIEUTENANT DAN!!! Them legs are are workin real good these days!!!
Thanks for a great and informative video from you both I was using my friends 1992 Mitsubishi Mighty Max unfortunately I was driving on the highway and a stone from a dump truck hit the windshield completely cracking it I tried to get the windshield and glass companies we're telling me that this windshield wasn't available the two of them that did have the windshield wanted over $400 to do the job so I went to the junkyard and found a windshield for $35 I removed it using the piano wire trick and it worked like a charm I watch this video ordered all of the supplies I needed online and replace the windshield myself and it was easy thank you for helping me and others by making this video
his arms are tools too! :D i helped a friend in his workshop with a couple of windshields and it almost always was a two man job to cut them out.
tasty2choc yeah i noticed that as well, those blades look like it take a LOT of force to cut through
tasty2choc Not always a 2 man job, depends on the size of the windscreen, and if it was replaced already, if so the tech could have shot a huge bead of glue and that makes the cutout process irritating. Still love the autoglass business though!
Good job, very professional guy! I'm impressed how sharp the tools were. Cut through the old stuff like butter!
Remind me to never armwrestle a window fitter.
Never arm wrestle a window fitter.
Lol
Great craftsmanship, and awesome demonstration or this matter. I have rust problem near my windshield on my 93 Chevy G30 Sports van. I was doing research to correct this, but needed to know the proper way to install the windshield with gusto!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING! AND THANK YOU "KISS AUTO GLASS" FOR GIVING THE OPPORTUNITY OF THEIR EXPERTISE.
12:47
Is that how they get those dramatic sounds for movie trailers?
Thanks a lot Eric for such a great video and thanks a lot to the "extremely professional and accurate" Rich from Kiss Auto Glass. I find this video particularly really helpful; because, nowadays, windshield replacement is "rarely" done right. I know a lot of friends who replaced their windshields at "cheap auto glass shops", where they got thugs from the streets replacing their windshields causing water leaks, deep grooves into vehicles' frames, rust, etc., which, in turn, forced their vehicles eventually into the junkyard.
Excellent video, i'm so much more clued up as to how a windscreen is fitted, in this case, removed as well, thanks, appreciate !!
That guys looks like Turbo Yoda haha
I'm glad I caught your end warning about not slamming your car door until the calking is dry. Thanks much.
Glass yodaaaa... #lol
garlicson who is turbo yoda?
I was thinking that he looked like turbo yoda haha
turbo yoda is mechanic on mightycarmods youtube channel
garlicson Glad I'm not the only one who was thinking this... Windsheild Yoda!
garlicson and to be honest they are very similar to me :D
He has precise details....good work
Smashing job done, what a nice and professional man :-))
zx8401ztv Thank you!
A little to long a drive....Very informative great video!
zx8401ztv Great pun
Richard Kiss He always gives the best compliments and they're sincere and true. +zx8401ztv
Have we seen you around before you Ericthecarguy's channel comments?
This guy should give more presentations. He is talented in that.
Fascinating! The quarantine brought me here hahaha
You've learned a lot of How to ask Questions, very good! Rich is a no nonsense Professional well worth his Skill master of sets, top shelf Craftsman. Best interview on TH-cam! Rich you'll never be without Money. Thanks.
Seriously, too many questions. Let him do his job!

Turbo yoda!
being an "assistant" grabbing tools cleaning glass etc.this guy didn't get into detail just kept it simple when he was explaining it. sorry for being a comment hog but this guy reminds me of my early days learning with my dad n Shit good times good vid.
rips off side moldings, breaking them... 'yeah that's normal'
its good to see someone who knows what there doing...do it the right way....i never knew closing the car door could possibly cause a leak...gr8 video guys
dude that rust spot could Have been cleaned up in five minutes with a mini angle grinder. plus don't bash all the other guys. your not the only good guy out there.
Brian Walker Nothing wrong with cragslist. it is a good free place to advertise.
you wouldnt like how we just slam glass in on subarus then on the production line of them
Very informative video. I work for a major glass distributor and I learned a lot from this. Thanks
Now aren't you glad you kept the Element instead of buying that rusty Ford pick-up?
Jim Simons Yes, yes I am.

Weeman's bigger brother.
I’m a glass technician and this guy did good. All the guys saying otherwise are the guys in the shop who just talk all day and get 1 job done 😂
Annnddd it will fit on your Honda! ;) haha
Just got my job as safelite auto glass technician thank you for this it really helps me in getting started👏🏼
IT'S NOT THE SILICONE FROM MY LOCAL HARDWARE STORE? Aaahhhh shiiittt.
Rich is my hero! Thanks for sharing Eric!
you push those side moldings in towards the windshield to get them off the car properly. you dont just rip them off like He Man
hahaha. have fun with all your broken clips.
+DKStudiosful Not to mention he didnt whiz wheel the rust off before he primed it -_-
yeah he broke the white ones off and didn't glue them back on so when he smacked them down you could see how loose they were, that car was definitely getting air nose from those loose trim pieces
Yup, other than that he was pretty good
For slamming the doors with a newly installed windshield, I have an idea about rolling down the windows first so air pressure won't build up in the car w/c would cause issues w/ the urethane, especially the cheaper ones.
The International Grammar Spelling and Punctuation Institute, (IGSP), would fail your commentary!!!
A battery Powered Kalk.. Gun interesting
dvddmc my forearms still thank the battery caulk gun gods.
Richard Kiss I just went to battery and i am loving it! I had a question, do you prefer to shoot the body than the glass?
Yes. Been doing this for 20+ years. In all honesty, I have never tried on the glass. Don't even see how thats possible
Richard Kiss I see it as a personal preference, but i like shooting the body cause i am pretty lanky haha
thank-you very much for all of your videos Eric. I am a single mom and do all the work on my truc
k and i have learned a lot from you.
This height difference is throwing me off. Either Eric is a giant, or these dudes are tiny. Anybody else notice this?
MiamiZombie2012 He's tall
I feel like the angle's off, probs the cameraman's tall or something making everyone look short.
I know Eric is 5'1", so I'm not sure how tall the others are.
John Kirkland I'm a pro but I wouldn't do a windshield, nor would I ever change a tire at home. Hello? Can you say super unbalanced wheels?
DE Nicholsaybe he has a balancer at his shop
papa bear
I'm sure he does if he does any tires at all. :)
my insurance covers up to 3 windshields a year
Payed for by us
I can't afford to pay someone to replace my screen but I do have a spare one on another car that I can practice with, great video and all I need now is a glass removal kit and some good glue, in the UK there is a silicon branded RTV which says it is specifically for windscreens and is good up to 250C, looks like that's the best I can find for now.
You should use silicone sealant in the outer lip to prevent water ingress.
I used an adhesive that came in a coil with waxed paper between it in the coil. When you stick it on the window frame it sticks instantly and once you lay in the windshield and push it into the adhesive, it's down. Also the stuff never hardens. So stays flexible. Totally water proof. No caulk gun needed.
this is hard to watch in the eyes of a real professional
Agreed lol
Eric the car guy has a very authoritative sounding voice, bet you'd make a great narrator or investigative reporter.
