  • The war against rust continues as we were forced to pull the windshield out of our 1988 FJ62 Land Cruiser. The idea was intimidating, but we worked together as a team and got that sucker out a lot quicker than we imagined.

    Great work and effort. It's all about giving it a go. This will be good for another couple decades of road trips and travels

    I stumbled across you all as I have an FJ60 and I think I found the suspension video to start but then have enjoyed the other videos of your efforts with the FJ62. Overall enjoying but there's gaps in how to I sometimes curious about as an answer seeker. Don't recall specifics (if I tackle any of the same projects I'll rewatch and ask)but seeing you all work through challenges is great help to me as I update my own rig. For the love of god though stop call it a car though! It's a land cruiser, vehicle, rig, overlander, SUV (if you must), but not car.

      Hey! Thanks for the feedback. We absolutely know that there’s big gaps in our vids. We’re not professionals and there’s times where all hands end up on whatever we’re doing and the camera is out of reach.
      If you have any questions on anything we’ve tackled though, absolutely hit us up on here or Insta @nomadeffect I wish I had more resources every time we tackle a project so we’ll do what we can to help!!
      Lol on the car! We really need to name the old girl without making it cheesy. Maybe when paint is applied she’ll have more personality and a name will scream at us.

    Looking at doing similar repairs to my FJ60's windshield well. I was thinking the only fix would be filling the rust holes with steel and welding but this looks like a great fix. Squashed frog to ya.

      It seems to have held up pretty good. We haven’t put the windshield back in yet but we’ll be sure to document when we do!

      Hi, unfortunately we haven't even got there yet. The car has been sitting in it's tent for a few years now. I had intended to use the rope/string method to replace as we have some new seals.

    Do you have a list of products you used, more specifically the fiberglass? Curious as to whether or not it’s a viable option for those of us who can’t weld sheet metal and also if it would be strong enough to hold up given that the windshield is a structural component? Excellent video, squashed frog!

      @NomadEffect  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi!! Thank you so much for the message and the lovely feedback!!
      So we used the Bondo fiberglass products on this part of the car but I also used rivets to insert sheet metal and folded sheet metal along the places that are structural. I’ve only used the fiberglassing to smooth and fill the gaps.

      We haven’t done it yet. But we’re going to try the trick people recommend by using paracord. We bought new seals also. Have you tried yet?
