    If you watched the rep where he did 470 and didnt struggle so much on the way up, that was pretty great form. Im assuming in training his form is really good but breaks down a little bit on his pr attempts.

    these are pr attempts, of course his form will breakdown to some extent. dude clearly knows how to ATG squat correctly.

    You give me hope and realistic time-frame to pursue those high squat numbers. Ofc, may take me longer than 2 years, idk. That was sick man.

      Philip thanks man but it was closer to 4 years. It was beginning of 2013 to end of 2016

    Is that twist because of muscle imbalances? It seems to have persisted throughout your training.

    Work on that right leg and hip. You keep buckling and that will be your demise one day. Otherwise excellent work. Heavy shit..

    • @jholl3357
      @jholl3357 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hani Ismail i did the same thing though squatting fast will help your stretch reflex and allow you to move a greater load if you do it enough. I use to do pause squats all the time the first time a tried to max out doing normal squats I could not do more than my pause because my body could not handle the amount of force slamming down throughout my core. Its good to train both speed and form

    I would use a cage whether I am doing 135 or 635, even though I definitely cannot do the latter. With that large amount, I would be uneasy about dropping it behind me during a failed attempt for numerous reasons.
    Also, the camera person can only run so quick in the event of an accident.
    Impressive lifts though.

    Out of curiosity, what is the point to dump the bar on the floor when you’re squatting in a bulky half rack? I thought the reason Olympic lifters generally do that is because they are usually using squat stands and they don’t want to set it back on a shaky stand.

    Do you stretch your hamstrings before maxing? I remember on max week this year, I squatted 275lbs Monday and the trainer told me to start stretching my hamstrings (my right hamstring was bothering me) and on Wednesday we got a chance to better our numbers and I hit 350lbs. Was a crazy experience haha.

    • @graywolf9923
      @graywolf9923  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sponge . Damn, nice man. I stretch a bit but not too much. I just spend a lot of time warming up wth the bar and making sure my positions are good

    Awesome progress, especially with that twist.There's a reason why I squat in front of a mirror. You should fix your form before an injury comes of it one day. So far you've been pretty damn lucky. Asymmetries cause all kinds of energy loss and inefficiency. You could be squatting even more if you had a cleaner squat. Nice numbers though. Single leg leg presses or pause squats in front of the mirror should help.

      Nick Johnson Try to sit down in an ass to grads squat position (if you fall over hold on to something). Sit there for 15-20mins (you can read/ watch meanwhile)- everyday.
      You will feel the stretch in your hips and legs+ ankles and you will be way more comfortable in the lower position.
      Try to widen your stance from day to day.
      Any other mobility exercise is not needed as any exercise that doesnt resemble the squat wont help you with squatting.
      This is the only exercise that has helped me with being more upright in the squat

    • @jpej173
      @jpej173 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks, I was actually doing it wrong. I didn't open my the legs and pull the pelvis back when at the beginning of my descent so my knee was too forward and my posture was not good overall. I saw Torokhtiy's video on the squat and fixed my form

  • @gjohnson5
    @gjohnson5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your forms looks ok except the head up during the lift. I do the same thing. I’m thinking “UP” so I look up and that’s wrong. I’m also not sure if you’re doing this intentionally AKA “Dan Green” or if your knees are caving inwards at the bottom of the squat. I know Dan Green advocates a slight turn inwards of the knees at the bottom of the squat and some follow that. So not a criticism from me on that point. However You should keep the spine in line. Heavy weights +90% 1rm do cause things that look like bad form. Reality its just the effort you’re putting in. Good work from my point of view

      @earlyearlybird 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      "...better than any safety bar." lol smh. Sure he could bail out, but you can surely see folks miscalculating things and end up dropping the bar forward with their neck still hanging out. Also, there is always a probability of knees blowing out. So you get my point.

    • @coolseeker
      @coolseeker 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I hear you. I see a lot of guys in the gym ego lifting, pushing beyond their level of control and in those instances safety bars are essential. They are there to save idiots from themselves. I agree with you. I wouldn't recommend bailing out to everybody but this guy lifts like he knows what he's doing and for him and seasoned lifters like him, bailing out is a superior option to safety bars.

    • @freakychannel123
      @freakychannel123 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      ^lol no do you see Olympic lifter using saftey rack? if you know how to bail out, you should be good. Hell i've seen some Olympic lifter who can pull of throwing bars overhead rather than re racking haha ...tht one would prolly be no no for me, but bailing out by throwing it behind is a perfectly fine and safe technique if you know how to execute.

    In reality ATG isn’t a true measure of squat strength. Especially when there’s a bounce at the bottom. Pause squat @ hip crease below the knee shows true strength in the squat.

  • @Thefunkeemonkee
    @Thefunkeemonkee 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is smth off in your technique. I think it is on your ascending when your lower back takes over as oppose to your quads. I would keep recording from the sides and make sure the bar just goes up and down. Also, I havent seen any pause squats of yours.

    Terrible form on all these guys. They are all opening up themselves for serious injuries. Knees should not be pushing out from under them like that. I saw that on just about all of them. They also appear to be using their backs to bail them out from failing because theyre legs are just not strong enough for proper squat form at that level of weight which is grounds for serious back injuries. They dont need to go ATG for good squat form. ATG means absolutely nothing. Studies prove parallel form is more effective and less taxing on the body for long term health benefits. They all need to drop the weight tremendously and do the squats the right way or they are going to face serious permanent injuries to their backs eventually.
