Edit... it was Mark Gibbons grot bike artwork that I'd based my entry off not Mike McVey... one day I'll get that right 😅 thank you for having me over for the show, interactions like this really inspire me to keep creating. ❤
Another shout out to Pat for dropping the 360's and images in at the appropriate times. I imagine they're a pain to edit in, but they're much appreciated!
Fantastic show chaps - thank you! That servo skull is the epitome of grim dark - it definitely has a John Blanche vibe to it. Excellent work James, greetings from a fellow BU graduate!
I think it's so inspiring to hear James is entering for the love of it, the fact he's happy to walk away with whatever prize is such a healthy way of looking at competing in painting tournaments like Golden Demon. Thank you for sharing your amazing art with us James!
What a lovely guy, episodes like this are why you are still my favourite nerdy podcast. Would love you to get Alex from 52 miniatures on. P.S. Pat, your love off getting a story across shows in the sponsorship ads, in a good way😊 Keep up the good work boys 👍
Great episode, and James just exudes passion for the hobby. It’s definitely got me thinking I should bite the bullet and enter a piece to GD. I reckon this will have inspired a few folks to.
Not only is James a Golden Demon winner - he's actually RE-PAINTED his Golden Demons! 😂 One of the most inspriing creators in the game at the moment - his 3D printed lower hulls for the Rogal Dorn are absolute genius!
Thanks that's real kind of you. I absolutely adore that I do and am so grateful for the support from the community which enables me to pursue my passion
fantastic episode again guys! i had no idea about the other pieces james had made like the eldar webway gate, simply stunning and really inspiring! Also (and probably none of my business) quite jokes how peachy left to do his own thing but hes already third wheeling on a new podcast lol, nothing will beat the OG
Awesome … James, you do need to get rid of (sell, gift, donate) the bigger stuff you create because you’re gonna run out of space in your house. That dark Eldar display is iconic.
@@taromodelmaker Memory is a funny thing, especially when being interviewed! Also I was right there when you had that conversation with the girl at Adepticon (I was another Notable entry in Epic) but I can't remember her name either 😅
I wonder if James or anyone else can remember the guy who used to enter the crime that was the sad Eldar Phantom Titan into Golden Demon. Literally caked in dayglo yellow car primer with some silver and another colour. Pretty certain it was at 2008 and some of the previous ones... I used to call it the high rollers early entry to GD! 😂
I am no where near good enough for entering a Goldern Demon. But part of me wants to enter my best painted minis (Or at least what I think are my best minis). Just to get the feedback so I can learn more to improve me skill instead of just watching more youtube videos.
@@taromodelmaker I Do plan too as soon as a compertition opens up near me. A project I had in mind that I started working on after watching this Video, The more I look at it I feel maybe this could be the project to enter in. Plus with a couple of my already painted minis. Hopefully a compertiton opens up in London so i can enter.
I wonder if any of you see any painting competitions are coming up and challenging Golden Demon for some of that prestige because so many excellent painters are not interesting in entering Golden Demon anymore.
It's absolutely personal preference. GD will always hold a special place in may people hearts. There are plenty of independent painting comps that are great to enter offering a diversity of options
At Adepticon there was Resin Beast by Para Bellem, Creature Caster, and Bestiarum; P3 by Privateer Press; and Path of the Worthy by Atomic Mass Games. NOVA Open hosts the Capital Pallette. I am sure there are others, but this is a short list.
@@terrencemiltner1005 Those are nowhere near the same amount of prestige (and competition). The real equivalent (or even more competitive) are scale model challenge, monte savino etc

Thanks for the appreciation.
Class act Taro. Looking forward to seeing I a few weeks.
A fantastic ambassador for the hobby a pleasure to do business with - the one time I have met James, he was a thoroughly nice guy!
James is an absolute legend in the hobby community. Thoroughly nice guy, talented and honest. Hobby hero 😊
James Taro is such a great guy!!!!!

Gentlemen, this was an absolute delightful chat. Greatly appreciated!
You’re very welcome.

What a great guy. Really enjoyable episode.
What an excellent guest! Definitely a fellow one could learn a lot from!
He’s Ace!
Throughly great episode, and thank you for the patreon exclusive segment 💯
Thanks so much Liam.
Great guest. Enthusiasm is infectious and I was smiling all the way through the video.
Us too!
I gave this video a like because of the ad read. The whole video is great stuff but the ad read just slays

I really hope so! The amping of people that think they can't enter for whatever reason is bonkers. Just enter and you'll get the bug to push for more
Amazing episode. Deliciously infectious personally!
What an awesome and inspirational chat. Great stuff chaps - a great guest.
very inspirational for people who would love to enter golden daemon but always puts it off
Taro is a genius! A real inspiration to the community and puts out some fantastic models ❤
Really nice insights 👍🏼 I will participate the first time in GD this year ☺️ Let‘s see! No expectations so everything is a win for me 🤗
Excellent video gents
Glad you enjoyed it
Love that GD entry this year. Really eye catching in the case. Thanks for sharing a little of the magic.
The way James Taro’s mind works sounds exactly like mine… except LEGO. Great podcast, New subscriber in me :)
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for coming aboard. Wait till you watch the next podcast, there’s a very interesting mind at work in that one too!

You’re far too kind.
Does anybody know which manufacturer Geoff is talking about that produces the biplane?
Station Forge, is the manufacturer. I hope that helps - Geoff

Troverian painted the nurgle model he came 3th in everchosen with in 8 days, and he sculpted the base
Yep it definitely happens not every winning entry is months of work. As I mentioned sometimes inspiration happens and genius flows
@@taromodelmakerfun interview/talk you guys had. Like youre painting a lot, but youre plinths are just amazing, fantastisk products 💙
No cake, but someone at Adepticon painted a cupcake Imperial Knight! It was in the GD cabinet.
I wish I had remembered that during the show! I literally got home and remembered their entries... was so upset with myself for forgetting 😂

30:36 how did James do the smoke/explosion effect? that is utterly amazing!
Being ex-GW staff, can confirm to James….’Skull on Cocktail Stick’ was at the three Gamesday’s I worked at.

Interesting interview, could have done with more close ups/illustration of items referenced. e.g. the Chaos Sword reference.

I smashed into those as soon as the show was over
The only piece this year that will be remembered is that mirror piece.
That piece was mind blowing.
By far the best piece I’ve ever seen.
I assure you it won't be the only piece that is remembered. Everyone remembers something different from every GD.
Those ads are bad. Hauntingly bad.
That’s the first negative review so far but ‘hauntingly bad’ is a great expression.
