- This week we talk what we've been upto in the hobby. Peach has played Hero Quest, Geoff Builds some scenery and Pat nothing so much! We also asked our patrons for questions for us and had a laugh answering as many as possible.
we released this video later than planned due to some weird copyright thing, the kickstarter is now finished

The Primarchs are all aspects of the Emperor's personality so I'm pretty sure the missing two represent his "common sense" and "people skills" 😁
Hahaha! I love this concept 😂
He had people skills, he just cast them out so he could beat the crap out of horus. :D
@@josephbradshaw2825compassion and love aren’t the same thing as people skills
@@MasterShake9000 true I just presumed guilleman got the people skills in his package
That is terrifyingly close to my headcanon for the 2nd Legion... :D
The wheel in the Conan the Barbarian movie is called 'the wheel of pain'. Conan wears a small medalion of it around his neck. The writers intended the Wheel Of Pain to be an allegory or a mill or a torture device. In the fiction the War Master's who created the wheel wagered when they constructed it, that would create a man who could master his body and mind perfect for the gladiator pits. He was sold to gladiators. The wheel of pain's simple lesson is "that which does not kill you, only makes you stronger
I thought it was similar to your explanation, but it was menat to be a mindless task that took incredible effort to mentally and/or physically break whoever uses the wheel of pain.
Or gives you chronic muscular/skeletal problems 😂
I came to the comments for this answer. Thanks mate!
By the Sacred Jockstrap of Robert E. Howard! I think you've got it!😅👍
There were two versions of the basic quest book, the version I have (the version released in the UK) starts with the Trial. The original quest book has a quest called 'The Maze'. The Sir. Ragnar quest is the second quest in both versions.
The version with The Maze appeared only in the 1989 UK version (which had a number of other minor differences).
The Trial appears in almost all the other versions that where released (1990 EU, 1990 US, 1993 EU).
A lot of old-school players move The Trial to be Quest 10, tying it into the (all but 1989 version) requirements for becoming a champion.
Humble video suggestion RE Peachy using his phone to photograph miniatures - maybe a quick video on how you do this? Tips, tricks, basic universal settings etc.
Great to see/hear you all just chatting for a couple of hours :)
thanks for bringing up Hero Quest Peachy! I had missed the kickstarter and then it fell off my radar but now I just added it as a late Christmas present. Can't wait to paint up everything and play it again. A blast from my childhood returns :)
Happy Christmas to the team. I've enjoyed your content through out the year and wish you all well in 2024.
Your content is some of my most anticipated content each week/month. Your chats have kept me entertained through out many a train journey and painting session.
Amazing! Thank you for your support bud, and we hope you have a grand Christmas and New year 🎄🎉👍
Sorry for the greedy amount of questions lol!
A phone photography/early days content creator one would help a lot honestly :)
PhaseFest sounds great, I also quite like "DistractionCon" as well because it's close to Distraction Carnifex lol
I love AK Rubber Black as well. I like using it on Space Marine joins, tires and the soles of boots! The finish on it looks fantastic next to the regular colour scheme, I highly recommend it to everyone . My least favourite paint is Corax White BUT if that counts as a cop-out I actually dislike doing bone colours/pale beige. It's a total PITA to blend from dark to light and it bugs me lol. Absolute favourite is Payne's Grey, It's a fantastic base for shadows and it's what I use for all of my dark angels ^^
Guys i love this podcast, it is my favourite thing to have on while im hobbying. Currently introducing you to the other guys in our "tale of 3 gamers" while we build and paint 2k points of new Age of Sigmar armies.
Great show, love all of you, long may it continue
"Favourite Christmas gift you ever received?"
Damn Peachy, too real.
🤣🤣🤣
New year new games - I bought a bunch of Moonstone minis to get into building and painting in the new year, I love that each one is a character. It would be lovely to see you interviewing the Goblin King folk. And from Dave at MS Paints's promo I bought a coffee of Gundam kits to try, so I'll look forward to seeing what Patrick's doing with them
Great stuff as always folks!
Hey lads, for a lot of us this *OUR* Barber Shop. Cheers, and Merry Christmas!
The bar fight for Necromunda is a great scenario. I played it against my brother - his Van Saar were all having a drink and then my enforcers turned up to provoke a bit of trouble. You have to leave your guns at the door, but you don't have to leave your shock batons at the door! 🤣 Even funnier was the patrons throwing chairs at the Van Saar as well! 🤣
BEST PAINTING COMPANION
Can't wait to play Mega Death Kill Squad at Phase Fest
Geoff's Northern wisdom on the Cereal/Soup argument was perfect. Amazing definition of soup.
I thought while listening to that "cereal being wet is optional, soup being wet is compulsory".
Gravy is a soup, got it.
@@cabe_bedlam kind of is really, I mean if someone gave you a bowl of just gravy and some bread.. you'd treat it like a soup.
The original Heroquest Advanced Quest - which was a newer version with an extra campaign, included the Trial as the first mission (UK)
Yes Pat! AK black is soooo good.
Per Geoffs comment on Warp travel/hyperspeed, in Star Wars lore its also actually based on routes! There's a tiny amount of info in Ep. 4 when Han says "going to hyperspeed aint like dusting crops, boy" but i believe the way it works is that there is a set, preplanned route through every star system that is safe, where they wont fly straight into a star or whatever, and if you fly blind its incredibly dangerous.
Its also often asked how the Trade Federation could blockade a planet in Ep. 1 when you can just fly into space in any direction but when there is a single or very few set points in the system where it's safe to actually jump from the blockading job becomes much simpler.
😂Hope Geoff did his Blot Bang Rub....had me in stitches
Name of my sex tape!
😂
During the Arnold Strongman Classic competition, they push a replica of the Conan wheel of pain, it's incredible to see.
Peachy is the winner of this years Christmas jumper competition. I want one!!
Having just checked my Heroquest rules; the first true mission was called The Maze and was a very basic setup, almost like a demo level. But in the rulebook you had each Character listed with a few pages and called 'The Way Of The Warrior/Wizard/Scout' dealing with combat, magic and movement. At the end of each 'Way of...' Section was an subsection called 'The Arena' which was billed as a practice of the concepts outlined in the rules, using the big room at the centre of the game board. Sounds like they updated this for the new version!
The Wheel of Pain was a large grain mill that was powered by slaves. Their hands were shackled to the posts of the mill and they would continuously rotate the mill throughout the day. They were only freed from the wheel once they were bought, or once they gave up and died from the physical demand of the mill.
I think the reason why 2nd and 11th primarchs were redacted wasn't because they did something worse than the traitors, but because whatever they did was something unforgivable, but for good reasons. Like the two redacted primarchs were basically ''redeemed'' by letting their deeds be forgotten while letting their legionaires still exist. So whatever they did was horrific, but understandable so they got deleted from records and most of their legions got split between Ultramarines and Imperial Fists, meaning the legions were surely forgiven, whereas traitor primarchs shall always be known as traitors.
You guys crack me up, this was a funny one!😂 ❤ 👍
34:17 Did Pat just say he will be looking into Infinity the game? That's great news. That game deserves more attention and is such a blast to play. Even your own turn feels dangerous as the enemy gets a chance to react to your movements
For most tasks, time and money are interchangable to one degree or another. Using an item like the splatter tool instead of a paintbrush is merely how one makes the exchange.
"Set Phasers for fun" - well done Pat, very good 😂
Conan’s wheel was a wheat mill.
Great entertainment as always 🙂
A personal note RE 'getting friends into the hobby' 1:04:00 - I've managed to get 3 mates into it, where we now all travel 4 times a year to play.
1.) Lower the barrier to entry as far as possible - ideally all they need to do is bring themselves. Have multiple teams to choose etc. Choose a system like Killteam that uses hardly any models.
2.) Choose a system that is as simple as possible - I can't champion One Page Rules enough. Really simple, tight ruleset, where we were all making deep tactical choices after turn 2. Free army builder with rules validation etc.
3.) Further to #2 - you can always switch to a more complex system/add advanced rules the more involved everyone gets.
- I remember the ad for Hero Quest.
Made me the gamer i am Today
Hell yeah!
I live in Nottingham I used to work in gaming and ive even seen peachy in passing. I do a bit of gundam and have some id happily donate to see on the show. I also climb regularly it combined with the push fit nature of gundam is killer on your finger tips
I agree that cereal is not a soup. However, I would pose the argument that cereal is a salad and milk is the dressing
I remember I had a friend that had both the AT-AT and the Millenium Falcon, we used to love playing with Star Wars figures at his house.
"Shot while having a poo."
Jeff's my spirit animal 🤣
The Garage at Chillwell is amazing and Geoff are you painting a Stalwart or a Spartan?
First scenario in the old HeroQuest was The Maze which was then followed by The Rescue Of Sir Ragnar. I enjoyed classic HeroQuest but roll and move is just...blurgh. Houserule that right out of existence!
Ive got a copy of heroquest as well, and a couple of the expansions. From what ive read about it. Its the american version of the game, which had extra mission, and they couldnt reuse the old figures either.
The Wheel of Pain is a grain mill. You can see the crushing wheels/barrels as the wheel turns. Since there is no water and not even wind to power a mill, you have to rely on human power.
Well, you guys need to have your own Painting Phase branded clippers and call them Excalibur.
Also
burger with grilled jalapenos, grilled onions, bacon, cheese, bread.
My favourite theory for the missing Primarchs is that one of them is Sigmar and he fell through the Eye Of Terror and into The Old World. I know that nowadays Games Workshop say that nothing is connected on the Fantasy/40K front but it was always my favourite of the theories that has popped up over the years. Plus, it would make sense for him to become something of a God-King in Age Of Sigmar now.
The other one, who knows! I liked the idea that the missing Primarchs are there for you to game in the gaps though. Come up with your own ideas and write your own histories for the Grimdark Future.
The shout out to Conan the Barbarian hqs immediately.made me think of Conan The Musical, ome of the finest things on TH-cam!
Love the Lego investment advice
Well well well, that is a fine looking trucker cap! Any plans to put those up for sale?
Great episode as always guys!
Yes, some of the mesbg minis are metal and some are finecast. I know, because I ordered a set of the nazguls(three different wraiths on foot and mounted) for me and a friend. One of the nazguls was finecast and two were metal. I got the metal ones and I'm still not sure which of us got the better deal there..
Imagine The Bard on The Painting Phase 🥰
Imagine the muscularity!
"Hi I'm Pachy" - the subtitles 😂
I'd love heroquest. As much as I want Necromunda PT.2 having a series where you play heroquest would be incredible. Peachy in a barbarian costume, yes please!
Can confirm the new edition is 99% faithful to the original except with some name changes because it had GW IP. Missions identical and all the expansions are getting released too. Sculpts are generally pretty cool but a couple of dudes here and there - specifically the Wizard and I don't like the replacement for the Fimirs. Other than that it's top notch.
Did not see link for the Terrain at the start.
Death guard are really quite good and fun now. Really recommend giving them a go before the codex.
I've still got my old school copy of Heroquest, so I took a look at the quest book. Mine starts with The Maze, with The Rescue of Sir Ragnar as the second quest.
Aha! Awesome thanks that’s answered that question 👍
the maze was the first quest, later changed to the trial for na. the rule book also has the way of the warrior, wizard, and scout as training/ tutorial encounters.
As already mentioned, there are two versions of the game. The UK/European Version and the US Version.
The Maze is a rather easy scenario with only a few monsters. So the US company said: Lets exchange the first scenario and put everything inside the box on the board. Which makes it rather deadly.
There are more differences between the US and the UK version
- Zargon is called Morcar
- no HP for monsters
- condensed actions (search traps and secret doors is one action)
- easier LoS: all figured in a room see each other
- potion store only in US version
The UK/Europe version plays therefore a little bit faster.
Could we have a link for the kickstarter please?
The great un-ladderness of '94 was solved with the excellent lotr uruk hai siege troops.
From that day on, many a pot of brown paint was put towards ladderization of armies.
Someone needs to put that on wiki, keep the history alive.
I think the 2 lost primarchs are Mork and Gork and i agree with Peachy. Burger and eggs are made for each other
The absolute temerity of Chris ‘five sausages’ Peach’s reaction to Geoff having eight patties in his fantasy burger 😂
I know, right?!!!
Idea for Peachy: Terran Reunification War, using the Warcry rules “engine”. Thunder warriors, techno barbarians, etc.
That's actually a really I interesting ideal. I've toyed with the idea of statting up Killteams for use with Warcry rules.
alright lads! where can i get one of those awesome hats?
Tzeentchy Peachy (working title) and his Sorcerous Motorbike Leathers would be fantastic. Like a Warhammer equivalent of The Stig, but with sand! 😂
OMG! I’m all about this 😂👍
4 Ground Warhammer Fantasy terrain was perfection!
But on the plus side, Geoffs Code-Brown Noddy Suit is now the name of my punk band.
When peachy said you know what's a good substitute, I though Jeff said crime 😂
When are the painting phase trucker caps coming to the merch store? Will buy post haste.
Love my god hands, I use them for the clean up after the bit has cut from the runner.
Rogue hobbies has a great video on mini photography!
Nice one, Peachy. I had all those Zero Hour toys as a kid and have struggled to remember or find out what they were called for actual years!
I’m glad to have helped remind you of such glorious times 😂👍
@@thepaintingphase was just up the road from you in Duffield at the time too 🤘
Would it be possible to play Hero Quest on the app without buying the boxed game?
Heated beard combs are the best. Just spray some water on your beard before using one, it's fine. Def don't want to heat it too much. Can't live without beard oil (Camden Barbershop brand) or beard balm (Beardbrand stuff is great, they did have some sort of manufacturing recipe oof recently though. I missed that boat, thankfully).
TRIVIUM 🤘👏 as if I couldn't enjoy these podcasts more
Not sure about fan fiction but, Peachy dressed as a naughty Nazi with a cigarette holder, along with Pat and Geoff in full drag gets my vote...I think Hogan's heroes messed me up😂
Regarding metal and finecast in MESBG -It's nothing to do with remaining stock. There are regularly produced minis in both citadel resin and metal. They just make metal minis for middle earth.
Also, Peachy, if you are really into HeroQuest there are…I think 9 expansions. 4 or 5 are just continuing reprints of the original stuff from the 80s and early 90s, but next year there are several coming that are all new.
That terrain, link for it?
Sigh, my old Hero Quest was in my parent’s basement when it flooded. They threw the whole thing out, models and all.
😢
IIRC the UK and US original Heroquest had different missions and slightly different rules. I think the new version is based on the US printing.
Thanks for making me aware of the app, so I can play the original 1989 game I just got a copy of, makes it easier without needing a GM (also scored space crusade at same time, both original, both in near mint condition (a couple of broken minis in Heroquest, and space crusade is complete and almost new condition, just both boxes are a bit crap)
the first quest is "The Trial" in original heroquest (1989), 2nd quest is "The rescue of Sir Ragnar "
Godhands are king
Godhand clippers, the sewing scissors of the miniature world.
The adverts and sponsored videos have not been intrusive at all; im sure most of your viewers are happy for your success.
I was the Baritone guy! 😂
Related to the new HeroQuest - I just picked up the "Tales from the Red Dragon Inn" boardgame. It's a light-weight skirmish/adventure game in the setting of the Red Dragon Inn card game, and though we've only played the intro mission thus far, it does really remind me of Hero Quest.
Ooh I’ll check this out, thank you 😘👍
About boardgames, Nemesis the board game is soo good, it´s a Aliens themed game with great miniatures and alot of fun trying to escape an alien infested space cruiser with much drama
Oh my god a chaos ugly christmas (chaosmas?) sweater, I want one!
Sorry if i missed it where is the link to that terrain kick starter?
So at the time it was going strong, but unfortunately as this aired it failed to reach its target, which is super sad as the terrain was awesome 😔
Peachy - there is a heroquest expansion all about the barbarian in the frozen wastes. First 3 missions are barbie only, then the standard 4. It comes with the female miniature and card. Bad news is you are still only "allowed" to run 1. It was heavily reduced on amazon a week or two ago.
Cheers! I recently got that…..’The Frozen Horror!’ My lad loves it…..and the barbarian is very cool
Any machine can be a smoke machine if used badly enough
Best advice I ever received about getting friends into gaming: don't.
It's easier to turn gamers into friends than it is to turn friends into gamers.
I also have the old black and grey citadel clippers sat around, sans a blade, don’t ask me why I have kept them for 15years, I just have…
Just saw the Christmas add for gw. How do you feel about Oli being an updated model of peachy (primaris)?
Peachy's boy sounds very familiar to many MMO dungeon groups I've had the joy of healing, 'heal me' they cry as they stand up to their neck in a fire pit next to a safe bridge.
Wmhahaha! That’s certainly how it feels lol
Aaah, another great episode of the Pegging Phase
New Year New Warcry Project
I agree with Jeff, about burgers. Keep it simple. I LOVE a bacon cheeseburger just a little mayo and lettuce. I'll order it from a restaurant and make sure to have them not include anything that taints it. My wife orders extra eveything! Especially pickles. I effing loathe pickles, they overpower anything they are put on and, ruin the sandwich or burger.
Jeff - Check out the Micro Galaxy Squadron AT AT. £50 and wont take up much space!
So Heroquest.
There were at least 2 printings of the EU (inc UK and AU/NZ) version of the game - the first printing didnt include The Trial.
The US version if the game is also different again to what the EU version got - it started with The Maze. It also had some slightly different rules.
The new version is a blend of the okd EU and US games.
Stuff like enemies having more than 1 Body Point was from the US version, but things like equipment cards are from the EU.
Awesome! Thanks Mike for the info 😍👍
Peachy's burger haunts me!!!
Peachey's "i'm surrounded by (American) civil war generals now" re verdant bushy painting phase facial hair is my fave comment in a crowded field
In Conan, the wheel of pain was simply a way to break down the enslaved and make them physically stronger.
If they managed to survive.
HeroQuest is good fun. It’s light and easy and just fine. Folks go on about how it’s not proper or the pieces suck or whatever, but the game is great as just something fun to do with some friends. The pieces do absolutely suck if you are wanting to paint them, but they are fine for a boardgame.
