The debt missions are purposefully supposed to make you feel really bad about yourself, especially the Thomas Downes one. That one's the most impactful debt mission in the game, I won't say why since you'll be finding it out yourself later on in the story. (Also I'm pretty sure Arthur reveals that he himself is really uncomfortable doing the debt missions in his journal)
For the debt collecting, Arthur's rough not because he's just an outlaw, but because he also has a gang to help look after, they are family to him, and he'll do anything to keep them alive.
A lot of the side missions are really important as later on they add more depth onto Arthur’s character and more of who he is and some of his past loving your streams and playthrough 💗
That mission with the reverend was trying to teach you that you can stop witnesses without using weapons or the lasso. You can focus on said witness and tell them to stop and then threatening them
I think you'd enjoy the more honorable Arthur decisions more in missions lmao, they often initiate longer cutscenes and give rewards! Not trying to tell you what to do though, play the game like you want. (Oh, but just saying, you're gonna need to clean all your guns once they get dirty from now on, dirty guns do like no damage lol)
Fyi shooting people and knocking people out is a vast difference in this game lol, reaching for your gun is pretty much only viable and won't affect your honor when the other person reaches for the gun first.
It was hilarious watching you run from those gunmen at like walking speed while on a literal horse speedwagon. I bet the gunmen were so confused that they just gave up lmaoo "Aww, poor feller don't even know how to drive the darn wagon! Ah, just let 'em have it, he probably has brain damage anyway"
Wow you folded with two pair a pair of queens and a pair of tens you could have won that poker game. You should look up Texas hold ‘em rules that’s the version of poker you’re playing in the game.

I'd recommend checking out Arthur's journal every once in a while!
It'll give you some insight on how Arthur feels about certain people and missions
