I think the owner often failed to service the car on time causing carbon built up inside the engine and eventually block the VVT filter, look at the muddy oil in camshaft and valves
Use good oil and change the Oil and filter on a regular basics and you'll never have this problem.. If you notices under the valve cover oil is caked on .. Clear sign of not changing the oil..
That's the question I've been asking myself ever since. Did the same job on my kia and the filter was right underneath the vvt solenoid, it blows my mind that they'd hide the filter there, that's just terrible engineering
After removing filter, should have taken a thin flat blade screwdriver with a clean cotton rag and cleaned out the internal area where the filter sits and clean out as much sludge as possible.
That's not a bad idea but unless somebody tries to desludge that engine some, or even cut the oil change interval in half, it's probably pointless. The engine's got half a pound of sludge inside it already that's not going anywhere unless the owner starts taking oil changes seriously.

I wonder why engine design engineers are not so careful and concerned about the maintenance and repair of such parts. This could have been addressed earlier in the factory to avoid difficulties of mechanics during servicing and preventive maintenance.
When I did mine it was so difficult to remove the upper bolt, It wasn't necessary , just release the tension, remove the lower bolt. both bolts have a cut out in the engine, after removing the lower bolt, lever the pump away from the engine at the lower point, pump will swing outward. prop it in this position with a small socket, allowing access to the filter plug. the plug can be hard to get started. you're done

my guess is its not ment to be serveced ever. this engine was neglected badly -look at the sludge and black build up in the cam area.

Cleaning the filter is useless, unless you get rid of all the sludge in the engine that you showed at the beginning of the video
You have to open the whole engine to clean it properly
You are absolutely right that the sludge will clog it soon, this cleaning even changing it will not solve the problem. This is a neglected engine
