I'm a vocalist...a 75 year old jazz vocalist who sometimes feels like I should hang it up since there is no large career in store for me. But tonight, after a gig, a much younger breast cancer patient brought me flowers. I cheered her up...she says I always do. And that, my friends, cheered me up in ways I can't even express.

What’s been cheering me up. Losing 20 pounds after years of feeling uncomfortable and wrong in my body. And fitting in my old clothes again. Going running. Baking bread. And we just renovated my son‘s bedroom. It might not help but I wanted to say you are my favourite person here and I admire you a lot.

I just clicked and have only watched the first minute, but I just wanted to say that moving is hard and it’s okay to struggle in the midst of such a huge transition. I remember moving from Portland to Boston when I was in my late 20s, and the move nearly wrecked me…one of my lowest lows for sure (several transitions later, I’ve now lived in the Midwest for almost a decade). I’ve also heard that it takes about 3 years to get your bearings after a huge transition. Not that there aren’t joys along the way-just wanted to offer this as a perspective that you’re still in the early part of figuring out your new normal in this time of change, and it’s okay to have lots of feelings about it all! My main desire is for you to continue to extend kindness and grace to yourself as you journey through the ups and downs of transition. ❤️

I know this won't really help you find some new things to cheer you up, but one of the "things" that has been cheering me up is... you! I discovered your channel from your videos on TFD and though I cannot relate to your reasons for doing a no-buy, I am heavily inspired by your appreciation of beautiful things. I am a frugal person who has just started earning her own money, and your videos have empowered me to spend some of it - mindfully - on some beautiful things for myself. I have also been empowered to think beyond what I "need" for my birthday/Christmas wish lists, and include some beautiful things that I know would enhance my space, mind, and wardrobe if someone decide to get them for me. Thank you!!

I think it's really great to find joy in what you do everyday. To be happy dressing for work or a palette, or even meditating. I am enjoying retirement. I really enjoy reading every day. I had gotten out of the habit but with my Jane Austen society book club and booktube group reads, I am getting into my classics. I have long covid so the days are challenging. It is very frustrating and people think I am crazy except those who have it too. When I feel good, I like to go out and drive to the city and just shop, whether I buy anything or not.

They could see the problem through testing, but I look like a healthy fit 45 year old from everybody else’s view. When I went in for my last check up, guess what?-My very young and fit doctor said she got Covid last spring and now her lungs are in bad shape too. Now she’s on the same medication inhaler I’m on. Crazy now she understands how I my lungs feel. Hopefully we all heal at some point! Good luck on your path to recovery😊

What’s cheering me up right now:
    - My bubble bath candle. I went to the store when I had tons of time and purposefully selected it to be my bubble bath candle over the course of like 30 minutes. It was methodical. And it paid off.
    - Taking my cats outside. I worry that they get bored being domestic animals and I don’t want that for them. So putting them in a harness and setting a timer to let them do what they want outdoors in that time (lay down and take a nap, hunt bugs, sniff grass, etc.) makes me so happy. Even if I only have time to do it for 5-10 minutes.
    - Watching your videos. I’m new to your channel, but I’ve watched Kackie for ages and she always recommends you. I’m slow to try new creators but I finally did. Watching your newest video is something I prep for, and it’s become “my time.” I love it 🥰

At a time in my life when I was bedridden by a chronic illness, I really got into reading & consuming content about Zen Buddhism & different forms of meditative practice to stay present. That Alan Watts LoFi sounds very interesting & I will check it out. I struggle with the whole getting dressed thing as well since I have a chronic illness that keeps me at home (the pandemic has really made me a hermit since I am high risk & cannot count on others to be vaccinated & practice social distancing) I have a closet full of clothes that I love & nowhere/no occasion to wear them & it makes me sad sometimes. To combat the blues, I made it a goal to try & achieve ONE task everyday no matter how small & to GET DRESSED & not stay in pajamas all day. It really made a difference in how I felt. I also try to put on some makeup because wearing makeup just makes me feel better & guarantees I will stick with a daily skincare routine since it requires removal at night. I also dialed back on news consumption so I wasn't absorbing all the woes & negativity in the world that I could not change or effect. Getting dressed & achieving a task/completing a chore ARE things I have control over & I made a mental choice to focus my energies on the things I could actually control/effect. With a chronic illness/disability there is only NOW, you really must live in the present because later you might be bedridden by fatigue or pain & all you can do is exist in your body NOW. You can't wait til it gets better or more perfect or whatever to start living.

What's cheering me up right now:
    - Jenette McCurdy's book "I'm Glad My Mom Died", it's such an emotionally charged and difficult read but I found it so relatable, at times funny and heartwarming, while simultaneously heartbreaking. And I'm on a forgiveness/mental health journey related to my childhood and it really helped activate that inner child and reflect on myself.
    - Watching bad romantic comedies in honor of my lovely grandmother, who loved watching those with me as a little girl.
    - Getting out a little bit one to two times a week, just to support a local business like a coffee shop or bookstore.
    - I treated myself to some dresses which I bought very thoughtfully, making a mood board of what I wanted, thinking about how often I would wear them, etc and just making the commitment.

What‘s really been cheering me up right now, is that i have read more this year than the years before. I started embracing which books i really want right now, not caring as much about the ones that are still unread in my bookcase, and i discovered a few new amazing authors. I didn‘t know how much i missed getting so into a book that i can sometimes spend my whole day reading it. Even though i have to admit i sometimes use them to escape my problems or stresses, i think you are the first person who i‘ve ever heard talking about that kind of escapist behavior, a few videos back. I always thought it‘s just me doing that 😂
The second thing i‘m really enjoying right now is the new Disney Dreamlight Valley game. It‘s a lot like Animal Crossing, so you might like it as well.😊❤

I was down for all of August with an injury. I really appreciate the reminder that it's natural to take some time getting back in the swing of things. I don't have to add to the challenge by scolding myself for not "getting with it" faster. Thanks.

I love this video and its reminder to relish whatever joy we can find these days. I, too, hope that you’ll soon feel better from the Covid and less discombobulated (more combobulated?) from the move. I’ve made 3 big cross-country moves in my life, and although all 3 were for happy reasons, it took quite a time to settle in and feel normal again.
Right now what’s cheering me up most is the slow but still perceptible oncoming of autumn. I loathe hot and/or humid weather, and this summer has been a bear. Seeing the air get clearer, watching the tree leaves gleam in the sun and hearing them rustle in the breeze-that lifts up my heart.

Re: housework. I saw a woman on Oprah years ago talk about how she used cleaning as a gratitude meditation. As she vacuumed she reflected on being grateful for her house, family having fun, pets providing affection etc I’m not doing it justice but it really flipped my mindset.

recently moved to another continent, in a country that has a bit of political volatility. recovering from a job that was very demoralizing. plus just dealing with pre-existing mental health issues. it’s been a lot! things that have been cheering me up:
    1. tea. i love matcha, black, jasmine green, peppermint, raspberry leaf, and recently got into rooibos, which is caffeine free but still delicious with milk and honey.
    2. caring for and playing with my very first cat! (adopted)
    3. learning how to submit poetry to journals and magazines.
    4. finding more sustainable / zero waste options for household goods i need
    5. nurturing my first sourdough mother. she’s bubbly and beautiful

My top three for what's cheering me up right now are: 1. Walking to and from work, and then taking walks after I get done. I work in an office, so I don't get a lot of outside time, and being able to take some time out of doors has been amazing. 2. There's a really terrible reality show on HBO max called F Boy Island that I have been loving watching when my brain needs a break to become mush, and 3. I just found an older podcast called Gilmore guys, which is basically just an episode by episode breakdown of the show and I find it really wholesome and quite funny

I saw you asked for recommendations on your Instagram for reducing screen time, and my recommendation was to get obsessed with jigsaw puzzles. That’s what is really bringing me joy right now and it has been so wonderful for my mental health. I try to puzzle in the evening for at least 15 minutes before I get ready for bed. I just vibe out to some music and it’s a wonderful way to shut off my brain and down regulate from the day. I’ve found that I need to love the puzzle itself from an aesthetic perspective, but there are so many beautiful ones out there right now. I think you would especially like the ones from Piecework. Loved this video! ❤

Coming back two weeks later to thank you soooo much for sharing your eggy pancake recipe! I’ve been making it not for breakfast, but for dinner with a few slices of smoked sausage or venison sausage, and it’s REALLY helped curb my habit of eating carb heavy dinners and/or junkfood late at night because that protein keeps me filling full all the way until bedtime. I’d love to hear more of your recipes like this one. The macros you tend to aim for in your meals are the ones I am trying to prioritize as a way to lower my carb consumption to get a better handle on insulin resistance issues I’ve developed.

I absolutely love having a clean house, turning the lights off, lighting some good scented candles, and cozying up on the couch at night and watching family oriented sitcoms. 😊 Having my daughter all cleaned and tucked in her bed, for school in the morning mmm. 😊 My other favorite thing I absolutely love is listening to music super loud in my car when I’m alone 😂 I absolutely love Pink Floyd, from their early years to their later years. I love it all! I can listen to their albums over n over n over. It’s so zen, then jamming, and then a little avant-garde feeling. Loooove it

The changing season into fall, the sun or rain, candles, and definitely food. (like your eggy pancake).
I do hope that you go from strength to strength, Hannah. Esp after been knocked so badly by the Covid.

    - bringing my autumn candles out of the cupboards in anticipation for fall

Doing my eyeshadow in general is a true joy for me. Leading up to the release of the Sigma × Alice in Wonderland collab i was duping the vibes of the palette. I fell in love with my Chocolate Martini palette during the process. The shimmers are fabulous. I had really not cared for the palette much until I tried using a primer with it. I was so disappointed in the quality of the mattes that I did not hold the palette in high esteem. I kept it around for 1 pinky look I liked making with it. Now I am so inspired by the palette and learning to love the palette that I already own has really filled me with so much joy.

I always love these videos! Lately what’s been cheering me up is taking extra time for self care like skin care, body care, mani pedis etc. I’ve been having a ball using my gel tips at home and doing massages with a very expensive body oil from a boujee hotel spa 😂 (that my best friend bought for me because she knew I’d never spend so much on a body oil) I’ve also been enjoying doing ‘angry eyes’ or ‘lived in glam’ or whatever we’re calling it 🖤 I’ve been taking a NYX black jumbo pencil and going to town with it as a super greasy liner and base for eyeshadow, sometimes with a Rituel De Fille or Gucci eye gloss on top and living my best emo life ☠️ (it’s also caused me to get back into my 13 year old emo playlist which has been a delight)
P.S. you should definitely watch Euphoria if you haven’t, if for no other reason than to see all of the gorgeous creative makeup! The actors are amazing and the whole vibe of the show is really beautiful cinematically while being very emotional 🥲💖
