my hair is completely out of control, I do not blame myself for fussing with it for an hour straight in this video but if it's annoying you just think how much it was annoying me when I was filming and editing
ALSO a note on the wall color: I think our lights are running a bit yellow (especially the background lights), obviously we are still tinkering with settings in the new space which is totally fine but the point is that I think that once we get the settings right, Dead Salmon is going to look warmer and less like an olive beige or yellow beige. It does not look olive-y in real life. STAY TUNED
Oh that's good to know about the lights. I paused to comment that on screen it's still going grey - even though I know that's also in comparison to the surrounding white. I know when it's surrounding you it will be awesome and of course it's lovely with YOUR coloring. Didn't I lie before and say it was my last inane color commentary - what can I say?

I can only use a paper planner. If I close the plan on my phone or computer, it no longer exists. A paper planner I can leave open and leave out where I know I'll look at it to remember to stay on task.
If there’s a good amount of other decor the more neutral wall likely work well. And I’ll be intrigued if you put up additional wall art too. If it was only going to be light rug vs salmon paint and little else I don’t think I’d be too fond of it.
The names of paint and makeup colors are so intriguing. I’d love a video of full face of makeup, but makeup that’s driven 100% by your favorite shade name(s) in each category even if the results are ridiculous looking in practice.
That would be so fun it would 100% cheer me up on the worst day.

Your protracted and meditative process around this wall color demonstrates better than I could ever try to explain, the contrast between a worldly Pisces and an impulsive Aries. I moved into my house and found a gallon of frozen paint in the garage left behind by the previous owners and proceeded to paint only the wall behind my filming setup with said paint using a broken sponge brush from my art stash. I then painted it again a few months later. Could be a metaphor for our channels honestly 😂❤️

So I lost my job in the middle of the pandemic and for over 7 months I lived on welfare. In September I got my old job back and finally having some expendible income I felt like I couldn't stop myself from making impulsive purchases. So I went back to your no buy playlist and it really helped me rein myself back in. I am totally in agreement with you that Sulking Room Pink is my favorite shade emotionally. That being said, Dead Salmon looks absolutely gorgeous on the wall behind you. If that’s the decision you choose to go I think it will look great. A perfect balance of luxe and avant-garde.

Something that’s cheering me up right now: I recently adjusted the height of my seat-cane (a walking stick that folds down into a little tripod stool thing) by hacksawing off (aka standing about while my dad did the sawing, lol) about an inch of each leg of it, and then (in classic me fashion) I took those 3 little metal tubes and made a necklace from them. I’m planning to wear it when my family travels in June (my first time on a plane since before the pandemic), since traveling is when I will need that particular cane the most (I have others which I use day to day, and don’t need to use a cane at all most days, but traveling is always a bit of a trial). And currently the necklace is sitting with the rest of my jewelry, making me happy every time I see it.
(And for reference, I’m 25 this year.)

Sometimes nothing is more satisfying than seeing your life laid out on paper. I really enjoy a daily planner for work. I use a different color of pen every day. On Wednesdays we write in pink. Fridays are always for my favorite color-purple!
Love your top. I don’t think that sulking room pink will distort makeup colors as drastically as you’re thinking. All the rooms in my residence are brightly colored and the only one that changes is the bright green makes my skin sometimes look a bit green tinged. But I think with a less vibrant color like sulking room pink, it won’t do that. It’s essentially a neutral with how brown toned it is. Don’t fear the color! Other TH-camrs have different color backgrounds that don’t affect the makeup presentation. Especially consider the era of having fabric backgrounds in the video.
Yes! I ran a paint store for more years than I should have (because corporate sucks, dude), and personally I don’t feel like the color would affect the perception of makeup much at all. I also stan sulking room pink.

I so agree about the paper planner thing. I struggled throughout college to find a digital system of organizing my schedule, and finally in my senior year started using the paper planner system that I use now. Things just aren't real for me unless they're on paper! Now I'm facing the fact that I've already set up the page for my last week of grad school and my system will have to change again...
I love working in my paper planner, especially with markers and pens and stickers. It's so nice to get things on paper. But I always forget to bring it with me! Or if I put it in a bag for travel, I usually forget it's in there and then stop using it (ADHD struggles). So now I use a combination of Google Calendar, my iPad, multiple notebooks, and it's still a struggle to stay organized and engaged.
I buy a paper planner every year that looks like fancy books so I can keep them on my shelf. I am much more focused by writing than typing.

I would agree with the dead salmon because i think it's ultimately the most sensible choice. But since you love the pink so much, and i do too, why don't you try to bring this colour into the space as an accent? Maybe a throw, a cushion, a painting or even a piece of furniture. Then you could have this lovely colour present in your space, without the imposing extent of four walls. Especially since the salmon and the pink compliment each other so nicely🥰
this WCMRN resonates with me so much! I too am so comforted and empowered by serving looks (specifically makeup) that are colorful, elaborate, and sometimes experimental! it just connects me with artistry in a way that is both achievable on the everyday and that sometimes resonates so much more because I am the canvas, which can be such a powerful statement. my planner is a lifesaver for me too! both my planner and makeup routine really ground me in strange and stressful times
The Japanese animated show description makes my chest tight from anxiety. The thought of a four year old living alone sounds absolutely terrible. But I am very visual, and I know that it would upset me and I wouldn’t be able to drop it. I am finding more and more that I don’t enjoy shows and things anymore. More and more I get stressed and upset, the polar opposite of diversion and relaxation. But I’m thrilled you like it, and I’m happy that it’s something that cheers you up. I can just fast forward when you talk about it. Too bad we can’t do that in real life! It would be so much easier to skip over the things that provoke anxiety. Also, today has been a super stressful day, which likely informs why I’m so easily distressed by a cartoon. 🥺
Um....the name "Dead Salmon" is amongst the many winning attributes of this shade for me....it's just so cheeky.
I also find it very satisfying to do something with my hands. Putting a different color of ink in my fountain pen always cheers me up and I find knitting very calming and rewarding. Touching the fabric and seeing how the piece develops is so nice.

Your joy to be reunited with your creative work really struck a cord with me. I went through a really stressful period a while back and as a result, I completely lost my creativity. I didn't feel inspired, I couldn't muster the energy to get out my sewing machine or my knitting needles. Recently I have been feeling much better and I have been spending a lot of time sewing and knitting. It has brought me so much joy. My creative work feels like home again.
I was considering buying your planner as well last year but ultimately decided to go with a bullet journal again. I took a long break from bullet journaling because midway through 2020 I just thought "what's the point?" This year I adopted a structure and format that really works well for ME instead of copying people's spreads and feeling pressure to be super artsy. It's been far more successful this way than it ever was before! I also like that I have freedom to write a daily journal or skip it, or experiment with different formats
I’m graduating with my PhD, moving across the state, celebrating my sister’s bachelorette party and my brother’s high school graduation (both of which are in different states from my own), and my partner and I are both starting new jobs (on the same day)…all within 17 days. These are all happy things, but it’s safe to say that I’m overwhelmed. I will also be living out of a suitcase. This video encourages me so much to find little moments of joy in the chaos and long/meditative road trips I will have, and I certainly hope to be serving HLP-inspired lewks soon. Thank you for this breath of fresh air, Hannah!

I love having a paper planner. Not only does it just work better for me than digital planners, but decorating each week is a lovely creative outlet (and makes it more fun to look at). I use a Passion Planner, and have for the past few years. I like the set up, and they have monthly reflection questions I sometimes use (and sometimes don't).

With changing jobs this month I’ve let a lot go& I can feel it physically. It may seem so trivial to some, but doing what I have started calling a “big shower” where you don’t skip anything& just painting your nails& removing the color once it’s chipped& styling the hair really matter. It has a major impact! Thank you for the added tips to help add the oomph back into myself.

I greatly appreciated your description of Kotaro Lives Alone. Often, people dismiss media if it’s animated and only view it as children’s entertainment. I feel that the medium of animation allows for complex and painful stories to be told in a safe way. I loved Kotaro and how sometimes subtle hints or clues were given to show how his past affected him.
I love the poppies in your blouse, they absolute cheer me up right now! So thank you! On the note of spending/overspending... I don't think I ever had an overspending problem, but I did have serious financial problems due to my partner becoming a person with a disablility after an accident and insurrance fighting tooth and nail to pay out. He is unable to work for 6 years now and that really took a toll on us as a family. Last month I punctured a tire and I had to replace two tires which costed about 250 euros at the last days of the month. The fact that I had been building a savings account and that expense was not only possible but didn't even feel like it was a difficulty was such a relief as I realised two years prior it would have completely whiped out everything I had left and would have left me scratching for months to make ends meet was so powerful. I'm so grateful for my past self being so adamant at putting money aside for those kind of things!

My thought on the color: Dead Salmon also matches your skin well- and is sort of the color of your ideal lip and cheek product - in a way I think it suits you best in your coloring and will compliment you best when you are trying on makeup- and because we see and wish to see YOU, it makes the most sense to me that this color is best- alongside what has already been mentioned.

This is one of my favorite series that you do on your channel. I always learn something new and it's so lovely hearing you reflect on how your relationship with shopping has changed stayed in this healthy balanced place. A big life event is absolutely the kind of thing that could cause a relapse so to speak, so it's nice to hear that you've maintained this relaxed view of shopping.

The show that's really been cheering me up lately is called Not Me. It's a Thai BL drama and you can watch it on TH-cam with English subtitles. The premise is a bit wild (a boy joins a group of student vigilante activists in order to find out who beat his twin brother into a coma) but it's not a dark show. It's really about love, activism, social justice, found family. The characters are so wonderful and the show has stuck with me for weeks. Everytime I think about it I smile.

Dead salmon was my pick because I typically like neutrals with color accents and it might be easier with makeup reviews but SRP is just so pretty. I think if its really calling you you can still make it work. The background can be DS and SRP can be used for one accent wall for your own viewing pleasure lol. Or the background can be half or 1/3 SRP. Or the background can still be SRP but when you're reviewing makeup film clips in more natural light or with a neutral background to show the makeups true colors

The no buy year reminds me of a saying "You can never have enough of what you don't need." Everytime I want another lipstick, spatula, packet of seeds, I'm reminded that if I want so many more, I probably don't actually, really, need it, and I should focus on what I do need, which I usually don't have to spend money on, like going outside. :)
Your description of Kotoro lives alone reminds me of the Japanese reality tv show Old Enough which follows Japanese 2-4 year olds as they go on their first errand “alone.” The episodes are only 10ish minutes on Netflix, it’s adorable

What cheered me up today - I got an amazon delivery of a new dish drainer (that is what you have to look forward to once you get settled into your new home) and the driver was in a red Kia Soul with snoopy characters all over it. It was the cutest and silliest and funnest thing I've seen in a long time and it gave me such a giggle!

so much of this was so great to hear - the last section was amazing and i think a fantastic moment that shows *just* how much you’ve changed - see how much of your life and mental space was hinged on shopping vs now, when you look forward to using all that time and space for yourself and your work in the world instead. shopping has finally become a task of utility (even if still in part enjoyable, it is not The source of joy). So amazing to see your progress!!

I like dead salmon, and love the name incidentally.
Personally the pink reminds me of municipal buildings that have got old and grotty, so it's never gonna be my vote (just outing my bias here). But also, I do think it is genuinely more likely to bugger about with the look of many makeups, and I think it's more limiting in terms of what you can put in the background.

I have THE BEST up-cheering thing for cat owners. I recently learned that my two cats will get really excited for a chance to watch videos for cats on TH-cam! Just search “videos for cats” and you’ll get a whole bunch of options that are usually either long videos of birds doing bird things or rodents doing rodent things. My two yahoos prefer rodent videos, but it’s worth checking which is more engaging for your particular furry creatures. Be forewarned: if it works, your kitty will whack at the screen, so don’t give her access to an easily tipped over machine. I now have guests over to have dinner and watch my cats watching TH-cam. *cannot recommend enough!*

Working in a kitchen and having to wear a uniform makes me feel like I cant dress up often.
My strategy is doing my fun makeup playtime before work and I can decide to wash it off right before leaving. I usually end up wearing it all day since no one needs to see me outside at the restaurant😍
I feel this 100%. I've decided to say fk it and just wear the makeup to work. I can't keep nice nails with so much hand and dish washing, and my hair has to stay pulled back and covered, so I might as well show personality on my eyes😎

Yesss paper planner!!! I live and die by my planner. I have a ritual of spending time with my planner every morning and evening-looking it over, filling things in, etc.-and as a freelancer it makes me feel so much more calm and in control when things get really busy

And about serving looks in the house, I used to do it during the lock-down: it was really great, a real pleasure that helped me to feel connected to myself in a moment where everything was blowing out around us. The bonus was that it helped me to sort my clothes out, too !

I switched to a paper planner during the pandemic and it was so helpful for me as well. I also found it helped me stay grounded and be kinder to myself. Plus when I had to take over my kids education, paper planners were so much easier

I love this! I also switched over from OneNote/Word to a paper to-do notebook, and I am so weirdly excited about it. I usually journal a lot (all my poems used to start in journals) and I should have known that I love actual paper and pens more than digital versions.

When you said paper planner i immediately thought "oh i hope she got a hobonichi!" I'm so so glad you did. I've been using them for a few years and they are such a delight. I have the cousin as my at home planner and keep a weeks in my wallet to keep track of appointments & things if i have to change things on the go. The slow act of taking time with my paper planner every day is so peaceful & I'm glad you've taken to it so well

Since finding your channel last month through Kackie’s channel, listening to your No Buy series has become this joyful experience that has made me reconsider my spending habits. I need to check out the Netflix show you mentioned! I recently finished watching Carol & Tuesday on Netflix, and it was such a cute show! I hope you love the DC area, and there are so many lovely places to visit. Before moving to Canada, I lived in Roanoke, VA, and when my husband and I drive to visit my family for the holidays, I am always enchanted by the scenic views. I also recently experienced a rethink of interior design as as 34 year old woman after a tree fell through our bedroom during a freak ice storm in Memphis, TN. I really thought intentionally about the woman I have become via design & it has been really transformative. Previously, our bedroom had mirrored a college dorm room, and the tragedy was an impetus to rethink our space.

When I hear "dead salmon", I think of the time when my old dog (r.i.p) and I were playing next to the river, and he joyfully threw himself into, and did the full body roll in, a salmon carcass that I hadn't spotted at first. The memory is a good one at this point bc it displayed his rascally nature so well. It also happens to be my vote for a wall color bc I love the sulky pink, but I think the "salmon" is a better neutral background shade💚
