I have only adopted this recently, but sleep on your back. When you hit a certain age, and you sleep on your side, you'll start to notice chest creases and facial creases when you wake up. They make pillows to help you to learn to sleep on your back but; the thing that helps me the most is using my yoga bolster under my knees. For some reason that keeps me on my back.

Nikki, Angie of HotandFlashy's channel uses a bed wedge when she sleeps, to not only sleep on her back, but also to be more upright. She's notices a huge difference beyond just sleeping on your back. See her video "Reduce Wrinkles By Sleeping On Your Back & How To Train"

I sleep with two pillows under my knees and have successfully trained myself to sleep on my back. Although It’s not nearly as good feeling as a restful sleep on my side… but alas gone are the days.

Love this video Hannah! Yes to hydration, yes to baths/masking...And Beauty sleep is huge! Our body repairs and restores itself during sleep. One of the best tips I have for improved sleep is to bask in the morning sun. Without sunglasses. Exposing our eyes to morning sunlight for 15 or 20 minutes resets our circadian rythm and really does improve sleep. And it is a lovely way to start the day.

My biggest “beauty secret” is tying my wavy hair on top of my head at night with a soft scrunchie and sleeping on a silk pillowcase. Has to be silk too - satin makes your face feel sweaty and gross. And the pillowcases get washed weekly. I have no other secrets.

Hi Hannah - scientist and migraineur here (I use electrolytes to help migraine symptoms). Electrolyte powders/drinks with some sugar are actually better at maintaining your body’s hydration levels. Glucose aids your small intestine’s absorption abilities. Granted, this does not need to be a ton of sugar like Gatorade, just like 1g will suffice. Sugar free electrolyte powders are kind of useless, or the same as drinking plain water, but if you just want it for the taste and to help you drink a bigger quantity of water then that’s okay. If you want to maximize your hydration with the electrolyte powders, get one with a little bit of sugar!

it's so interesting when i hear people struggle to drink water. i grew up in australia so i'm a water fiend. my 'beauty secret' is putting sunscreen on every day, letting it set for 20 mins and then reapplying in case i missed any areas. it has to be water resistant, broad spectrum and 50+ - though that rating doesn't matter as much as broad spectrum does - and from a company / area where i can look up where and how they tested their products. (again, i had an australian childhood and they had a vERY successful PSA about applying sunscreen often.)

My biggest beauty “secret”: *Exfoliating washcloths*
I grew up with them and now anything else feels like a sad shadow of what a shower should be. It keeps my skin so much softer and clearer, plus makes me feel truly “clean” - especially getting pits clean from deo, prepping for smooth shaves, and exfoliating away the great amount of dead skin we shed regularly. You can work up to the more exfoliating ones gradually but it is complete necessity in my life.

I don’t use washcloths but I started using exfoliating body wash about 3 years ago (not the regular body wash that says exfoliating- that stuff is a joke) the kind I use is by Veilment (I believe it’s a Fruits & Passion sister company and sold through them or AVON. I use it on my upper arms and it cured my lifelong keratosis Pilaris , and my back and. Under boob just doesn’t feel clean until I use the exfoliator .
It’s pricier than I would like so I contemplated trying a mixture of regular body wash mixed with a hardcore scrub, but never got around to it, mostly because the Veilment lasts so long anyway.

I love that you started with the H2O beauty secret. People often ask me what I use on my skin, and my answer is always it doesn’t matter what you use because it has to be right for you, but none of it will work if you don’t drink enough water. People then get mad or think I don’t want to share 😅 but when I share, they are like, oh, x and y products didn’t work for my skin. So then, I’m like, well, as I said before, it’s different for everyone and their concerns, but the constant is all of those actives need water to work correctly. Anyway, enough ranting! my beauty secrets are:
    1. loop earplugs! leena norms recommended them a while ago and i have used them every single night since getting them, they have improved my quality of sleep so much
    2. again, like yours, drinking vessels, especially insulated ones. i have ADHD and often just completely forget to drink water, or i remember to get myself water but fail to drink it before it's room temperature and unappealing. insulated bottles (i have a hydroflask) have been life changing for this reason!
    3. putting a chair in my bathroom! i get a lot of aches and pains, and one day i resorted to bringing a chair in so i could sit as i brush my teeth. this has been such a game changer for me, now i sit and watch youtube or tv while i massage cleansing balms into my skin for far too long, do face masks, drink tea etc etc, it's practically paradise for me at the end of a long day

For a long time I thought I didn't need it because I have super oily skin, but since I started doing this years ago my skin has actually gotten less oily since it's more naturally hydrated haha. I add 1-2 herbal tea bags to a quart of cold water and it works so well to drink more water, newsman’s organic sweet cinnamon spice is so sweet and spicy without adding any sweetener, it’s so much yummier than powders. You can make “sun tea” but I just drink mine right away

I got myself to drink more water by trying to use it as a nail-biting replacement. Just always have a cup if water to sip out of when I feel like I should be doing something with hands/ mouth. Trting to replace a bad habit with a good one. It sort of worked, not perfectly, but it helped with both.
I also used to not like drinking plain water, and my solution was herbal tea. I remember hearing that sipping hot beverages increased blood flow when looking for a solution to chapped lips, which was convenient since I love a hot beverage. I like the peppermint+spearmint tea I currently have iced too.

I've had people ask me often what my secrets are because I'm 45 yet "don't look my age" (according to whom- I just don't know). My answer is one no one ever wants to hear: genetics. My mother is turning 70 this year yet looks like someone in their 50's, her father at 79yrs old looked like a man in his late 50's early 60's. My father turns 70 in a few days & looks like he's in his early 50's. My great Nana George who lived to be 100 had hair to her waist & although was quite wrinkled by the end, looked better than most people 30yrs her junior! 🤭💜

Same…the infamous story my mom tells me is that when she was student teaching in a junior high she got stopped in the hallway for a hall pass, lol! Her dad (my grandpa) who is almost 90 looks in his 70s…and I definitely don’t look my age either…I’m in my late 30s and have been mistaken for a young college student. 🤷‍♀️ I have a solid skincare routine now, but all throughout my 20s and early 30s I literally never washed my face (I also didn’t wear makeup). So yeah…genetics is real. But I think I am helping my skin out with a routine now, and agree with Hannah, slugging is EVERYTHING!!! 😂(dry skin gal here)

I've just recently gotten back into audiobooks, since my drive time has increased, and I forgot how much I loved them! Listening to books on tape, and then CD, and then on phones, is something my family does when we're driving on road trips, so it's been really nostalgic to be back listening to books! It also means I get to read a lot more books than I have the last few months, which in my post-grad school slump is a big plus.

Hannah, have you heard of this thing … I think it’s called “skin cycling?” I just learned about it on TikTok. The idea is on night one you do a chemical exfoliant, night 2 you do retinol, and the next 2 nights you let your skin “rest.” And then you repeat. I’ve been doing it for a couple weeks now and I think I can see a difference! I’m also just so grateful to finally have a routine that makes sense for my retinol and exfoliating.

When my feet start to feel dry, or near the end of summer after sandals for months, I do this revitalizing technique to make them baby smooth again.
    1. Use a fine (or more coarse depending on how gnarly your feet are) emery board and gently file off all the driest bits.
    2. Wipe off with damp cloth.
    3. Use cheap chemical exfoliator on bottom of foot, concentrated on driest parts . (The ordinary is a good choice or something you don’t love the viscosity on your face)
    4. Apply thick layer of very rich cream. The kind that comes in a tub. I use the ultra moisturizer from First Aid Beauty but Nivea in the aluminum pan may be a cheap good choice.
    5. Put on a pair of chenille or popcorn socks. Try to do this at bedtime so you won’t be walking on them for hours.
That’s it!! In the morning it will all be absorbed and feel like a million bucks. Also be sure to throw out the emery board so it’s not reused . You can get packs of like 30 at the dollar store.

I agree sleep and hydration are very important for overall freshness, no amount of makeup can help if you don’t sleep well or drink enough liquids. I use a sleep mask but it’s one of those silk ones that slides off in the middle of the night, so I will try the one you use. Reading through the reviews I’m seeing lots of recs for earplugs which had never occurred to me but I’m going to try as well. I’d add that magnesium oil spray really helps. I use it a few times a week and it has saved me when I can’t fall asleep or I have restless leg.
I do lots of the things mentioned in the videos and comments, but something else I do every morning as soon as I wake up is tongue scrape. All the gunk/toxins that accumulate in your mouth are swallowed otherwise. I also use two drops of an essential oil mouth blend and rub it along my gum lines after I floss at night, it kills any remaining bacteria. Last but not least is stretching. Every morning I do a 10 minute stretch session and it helps me feel refreshed and ready for the day. I also feel less achy.

My best beauty secret is a weird one. It is focusing on the health of my gut microbiome! I was having stomach issues and went to a nutritionist for help and she recommended consuming foods that are high in probiotics (but do not take probiotic supplements bc they don't work as well) and then eating things to fuel and feed the good gut bacteria. She recommended eating things like yogurt, kombucca, pickled foods, and especially drinking kefir which has like 8 different live bacteria that can really help your gut. And then eating things that fuel and feed the bacteria like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. I started that diet to help with my digestive system but it also really really helped my skin! It helped reduce my dry scalp issues and my general dry skin issues, helped with inflammation and redness as well. I was not expecting my skin to get better as a result but I really really see a difference when I am consistent w having those foods into my diet!

    My beauty secrets...
I double cleanse with an occlusive balm I made and then wash with pure honey. I use tazorac at the highest concentration and then slug with my occlusive balm.
I used to be a back sleeper and my skin looked better then, but I started sleeping on my side and front and need to go back! I use terry cloth pillow cases sometimes because my face cream is so thick. I also use a hair growth oil on my scalp and a leave in treatment on the length of my hair, wetting it first, then coating it in honey, aloe and oil, pop a shower cap on, then a microwaveable flax-filled deep conditioning cap-I usually take the heated cap off before I go to bed but sleep with the shower cap on. I balance moisture with protein for my hair by using rice water solid shampoo/conditioner and a protein free solid shampoo/conditioner-if you cure bamboo holders with oil and put them in the oven they won’t get nasty in the shower. My hair is to my waist with waves and i feel like a mermaid! 🧜‍♀️ I use the divine herbal hair oil for my scalp, and my actives are from the dermatologist, but other than that and my tools I make all my skin care products including sugar wax and a humectant gel. People have assumed for years that I’m 13-15 but I’m almost 30-I am short though! I wish I could write more but I can’t remember if I’m leaving anything out....I love this collection of advice HLP has encouraged us to compile! You all left awesome beauty secrets. I guess it’s more mental health related but I designed my vanity space very carefully with a lot of natural materials and a little Hollywood regency vibe to my taste and it makes me feel so excited to play with the beautiful things I’ve collected. I don’t have a lot of money, but I’ve spent more on tools than products since I diy most of them. Tools when we’ll kept can last multiple lifetimes especially with high quality. I also decant my makeup products-these I do buy-into vintage containers and compacts and then I can thoroughly wash and recycle whatever they came in, but this usually allows me to buy them in refills and that’s cheaper anyway!

Hi - yes, I agree, eyebrows help to frame the face - and you have great eyebrows.
One other significant feature that can help to frame the face is hair. Yours does this beautifully - especially because of the style you have chosen.
But also - your hair style has a lovely fullness - and that can be flattering on everyone.....Ladies - take a look at people with some fullness in their hairstyles and notice how flattering it is - it makes the other features (especially the eyes) stand out more....so fuller hair is a kind of "mascara" for the face......compare this to the slicked-back hair look (nice for a change - especially an evening look) - or take a look at the "straight long hair, centre-parting, falling downwards on each side of the face, flat on top - it's a question of personal taste, of course, but I feel that even a little bit of fullness is much more flattering.....
    Just a thought....xx

My top beauty recommendation is red light therapy. Nothing has done more for my acne, skin aging, muscle aches, exercise recovery, exercise endurance, improving quality of sleep, and overall sense of well-being. I recommend getting a panel rather than a mask (the masks are too limited in how they can be used IMO). Go with a reputable brand that has a good return policy. I have one from Mito Red and really like it, but Platinum LED is also good. I’m making sure to recommend another brand here because I don’t want this to appear to be an ad for Mito - I just really like this technology for beauty and well-being. Love the videos! 💕

great video! I've been here a while so I've heard you talk about them. My "beauty secrets" are I always mist my face with water before & after apply my moisturizer, it has hyaluronic acid, I read it helps. Also, this one might be kind of high maintenance but I brush my teeth with just water, then floss then brush with toothpaste. I just like my teeth to feel their cleanest. One round of brushing doesn't feel like enough, lol.

Hi Hannah, my two main beauty "secrets" are actually health related. First one: intermittent fasting. I've been doing it for more than 4 years and since then my skin is much more balanced and better looking, and also my hair and nails grow much stronger.
Second one: sleeping with ear plugs. I've been doing it for one year, since I discovered that I am a highly sensitive person, and it's been totally life changing, not only for my overall health and energy levels but also for the appearance of my skin and the vibrancy and life in my eyes. I actually have received more compliments during this past year, with 38, than when I was younger.
My conclusion: all the creams and makeup only have a small effect, the majority of the beauty actually comes from just a healthy body.
I hope this will be helpful to someone.

I loved this video. You have really great advice to offer....but I'm such a dork...my number 1piece of advice was your number 1. Lol...I never drink enough water even tho I know I should but I have never found any mix in I liked that was good for you. I'm going to try the sweet one.
My 1 tip I have (although most know) is to sleep on your back. It does take getting used to but it truly makes a difference. I don't wake up with pillow marks on my face/creases or any puffiness on one side or the other. Plus it helps with getting less face cream smeared on your pillow.
P.S. I love that you still have your duck lampshade from the young Hannah eyebrow video!!

My beauty secrets: blackout curtains (makes a huge difference); run or walk outside every day (at least 30 minutes of running; 1500 steps walking); resistance training & yoga; put exfoliator on DRY skin, run it in and then rinse it off in the shower (I use any old cheap exfoliator on the body, Sanctuary Spa brand is fine; they all work).

The click batey title got me 🤣🤣🤣 well done Hannah or Joe 😂. I do that pillow thing also, tuck it under my neck as well to get support then “hang” my face off. I have old soft down pillows so they are easy to manipulate. I also have satin pillow cases, I tried the expensive silk but they just got destroyed too easily and I’m too cheap to spend $100 a pillow case every year. When I wash my pillow cases I fluff my pillows in the dryer on high to kill any ickies and keep them “fresh”.

Hi Hannah - I just discovered your channel a few weeks back and I am so digging your vibe AND your message! I'm glad you mentioned dying your eyebrows again, and linked the product you use. But what I really loved in this video was the slugging bit. I laughed out loud, while wondering to myself if I have any Vaseline in my medicine cabinet.
So happy to have found your channel. It's inspired me to look at the things I already own and rediscover and reimagine them. I'm planning a no-buy March, we'll see how it goes. Thank you for "your work in the world".

My world has changed a lot-- and the time I devote to beauty content has drastically lessened-- since the tender time of the OG No-Buy Year. It's been altogether too long since I sat down with one of your videos. But boy howdy, the screen grab from the eyebrow-dyeing video with the Faber Poets poster in the background took me ALL the way back. 😂 I always love seeing your subscriber count when I check back in with your videos. I'm pretty sure I was here before 5k, so I feel proud on your behalf to see how much your channel has grown. Hannah, you introduced me to the concept of a project pan, the philosophy of "fewer, nicer things," and the Bite Beauty lipstick I wore on my wedding day. I got nostalgic watching this and just wanted to thank you for how much your videos have meant to me. ♥

What a great video! I’ve been curious about dying my eyebrows because I struggle so much with color brow products. When my skin feels really compromised at night I bring everything back to basics and “slug” lol with either glossier afterbaume (sp?) or just regular auqaphor. It works great!
One beauty secret I’ve found that works wonders for skin prep before makeup is using a gentle aha before the rest of my skincare routine and makeup primer. Lastly, and this is a weird one lol, I started shaving my arms about a year ago. I have chronically dry skin and probably the hairiest arms in history 🤩. I feel like the hair prevented my skin from ever getting adequate hydration, and my skin never got a good exfoliation. Now my skin is looking and feeling great and my kp is improving greatly 🤩.

Oily faces NEED moisture! Slugging with the right moisturizer can be very beneficial for those faces. If you're oily and shy away from moisturizers during the day, try them at night because your face will thank you!

Silk pillow cases and silk sleeping caps have won my beauty game. I've also been slugging forever, like decades, but with Vaseline (my primary moisturizer). Silk doesn't absorb much so more of my skincare stays on my face than soaking in the pillow. Silk also reduces the friction on my hair so much, that when I wake up it is still moisturized and in place. I've been loving the Lily Silk products.

Yes yes yes on the water and sleep! I’m 100% one of those people who’s tired eyes show through their makeup so I've got to get that literal beauty sleep lol. Besides that, Bloomeffects makes this tulip moisturizing nectar that embodies the exact definition of slugging without actually needing to put a ton of product on your face. It has the texture of honey sans stickiness and you only need a very very small amount and it feels like you got slugged 2x over lol. The results of it really are baby butt soft and I have very dry eczema prone skin so that’s saying something….

My skin has become less oily, I’ve gotten compliments on my skin for the first time in my life, and I have almost no pimples anymore. I want to feel a layer of moisturizer of sorts on my face when I wake up. Yes, my skincare usage has gone up this year. However, I looked for cheaper alternatives for many products. We used to use La Mer... My husband is the fanatic about using face and eye creams. Talk about cheap, I've heard so many good things about tallow for the skin. My husband started using it on his body and he has baby soft skin, and he's now graduated to his face. I asked him what he had on last night because he smelled so good; it was organic tallow with essential oils. I put as little as possible on my face and have always looked younger than my years, so the purity of tallow appeals to me. Somehow the idea of skin soaking in tallow is good, as opposed to putting on something that I have no idea what it is. It's just a really good fat that you can eat and lubricates everything. Hum... Thanks for the video, Hannah.

The company that makes those tumblers (reduce) has great customer service in my experience! The warranty is awesome. I got one with a lid that didn’t quite seal (sp?) and they sent me a new lid no problem.

Beauty Secrets: For sure the slugging, esp. in winter (I live where it's ccccold in winter!). I use the CeraVe blue tube Healing Ointment. But in winter, my top, Top, TOP secret is the old-fashioned Vicks hot steam vaporizer. They have them at Wally World, Target, etc. Cost about $20 and they last 3-4 winters before they die. Every night I fill it up, add a pinch of salt, and start it an hour or so before sleep, and it runs until morning. No more dry skin anywhere (legs, especially used to itch horribly in winter), no more dry, frizzy hair, no more dry eyes in the morning! And I seem to get fewer colds/flus and I think it's because my nasal passages aren't dried out. I feel 100% better with that thing running all night from about mid-November to early March.

Hey Hannah, love your videos so much! I thought I'd mention that slugging in the way that most people do with Vaseline or something similar is actually not great at all because it means putting petroleum jelly (aka derived from fossil fuels) onto our skin. Although I love beauty content, I do think that the beauty industry has some detrimental impacts on the health of our world. Promoting actual petroleum jelly onto our skin does not help us longterm and it's yet another way in which fossil fuels sneak into our everyday life (and then we're also helping fund it as well.) I know it's tough to avoid in general, but I do think that in some ways such as slugging it can definitely be avoided. Jessica DeFino is a beauty writer that talks all about this and so much more and has really helped me distance myself from the problematic aspects of the beauty industry - I so recommend her if you're interested!

As someone who has struggled their entire life to go to sleep and stay asleep, the ability to keep light out of my eyes is an absolute must. However I don't use a face mask and I have found that I personally don't like the look of blackout curtains in a bedroom that has lightly colored walls I have always thought it looked like a dungeon. I have instead chosen to paint my master bedroom from bottom of baseboard up through the ceiling in a deep forest brown that absorbs any light that gets into the room , the fact that every inch is the same color gives the space a lightness even though it's a dark color. I also use reflective decor made of brass to add light and mood to the space.
