Very powerful and touching performance of U2. Iconic! I am listening and watching this video while the latest Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the long drawn out war between Russia and Ukraine are going on... this song although referring to a different situation is applicable here as well. Sadly, the peace and love that music and musicians share are not shared by the leaders and guardians of nations. Maybe one of the sides is compelled to react to save their own community/nation from those who have either provoked or aggravated them. It's an irony and yet a valid question when Bono sings, "How long must we sing this song?" Wish for ultimate peace and harmony in the world.

Hard to stay "hungry" when you literally reach the pinnacle of rock music and stardom and become generational wealthy. That they continue to produce great music is a testament to how hungry and great they are. Many other bands and singers do and would have faded in to oblivion or voluntarily bowed out after obtaining that level of success.
SBS is so relevant at the end of 2021. "I can't believe the news today" is what everyone in Europe and possibly on earth will be saying in a few months as Ukraine and the world drift toward all out war. _Influential US Senator Roger Wicker, who is on the powerful US Armed Services Committee, said recently that the US might have to start a nuclear war with Russia to defend Ukraine. Other US politicians and a German geo-political expert also voiced this view_ I'm from India btw. But don't worry! I believe, as did 85 percent of the greatest scientists in history like Sir Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday, James Clerk Maxwell etc, that Jesus Christ will return to finally bring peace to humanity. We are all children of the same mother the Bible says and so does science with mtDNA results. Please take care all,and call your parents more often and hug your loved ones tighter. The Bible did say that God is Love personified. :)
@@charleysangel2866 Once upon a time (30 years ago) there was U2. Nobody complains that they don't keep making good music cert, commercial music. Let's say that they "had" to adapt to the times, if they had "kept" their "rebellious" line perhaps today they would not even be a band anymore, as happened to other bands that have not "bent" and adapted to making music to make number instead of music to make "history". They sang the "stories" of the struggle for Irish independence, they sang the rebellion of those who did not want to give up and wanted their rights respected. Today they sing songs in favor of globalization and the loss of the culture and identity of peoples. I think they will end their careers by writing songs for cartoons. I personally stopped listening to them after "Zooropa" when I realized how they were turning to more "commercial" music.
I'm not a drummer, I still don't know how you make drums sound the way they do on this song. Amazing, they break my brain. Of course much more here but the drums on this song will always blow me away
U2's got a few songs that most people would recognize from the drums alone. Not many bands can claim that. Even if the drums aren't technically amazing, they are iconic. They have that Dave Grohl musicality.
It’s almost like what they call a blast beat in metal. It sounds like marching music and gunfire. The Edge’s guitar definitely compliments the drums. Checkout a documentary called It Might Get Loud. It has Robert Plant, The Edge and Jack White talking about their music and playing live. It’s awesome.
I was there at this concert in 1983. It was as cool as it looked. The opening bands (Divynls and the Alarm) wouldn't go on because it was so wet and cold. U2 was determined to do the video, so the show went on. Props to them. Not only that, they felt bad about the conditions and said anybody with a ticket could go to a repeat show the next night at the University of Colorado Events Center. It was great, thanks U2!
Bono came out before the show to give hot drinks and refreshments to the fans who showed up early. They really had no choice but to do the show, they were on the hook for $25 K in costs to have the thing filmed. that day.

Man, if there's one memory that sticks out for me as a kid of 12 years old, it was seeing this video on MTV. I had never heard of U2, and I had no idea what this song was about. But I knew that it was an anthem of great importance and coupled with the flames high above the stage, Bono's march to the opening beat and those melancholy guitar chords, I was mesmerized.
As a kid seeing this on mtv I was floored by the song and fascinated by the venue they were performing in. 30 plus years later this is still totally awesome.
Listnening to this masterpiece today, January 30 2022. Fifty years ago, the event that the song tells about took place in Derry, Northern Ireland. I would like to pay respect to all the family and friend of those who lost their lives on that terrible day.
When you don’t realize you’re in the moment until it’s a memory…The 80s and 90s were incredible so glad I was born in ‘68 and grew up with all this music… GenX forever
U2's song "Sunday Bloody Sunday" is about the Troubles in Northern Ireland and the 1972 Bloody Sunday massacre in Derry, where British soldiers shot and killed unarmed civil rights protesters.@@PeterGreen-t8c

This anthem was captured at the famous *Red Rocks Amphitheater* during a filming of the "Under a Blood Red Sky" concert on a cold, wet and dreary evening of *June 5th, 1983*. Shot live in Morrison, just outside Denver, CO. it captures all the heart, sweat & glory of an early U2 show back in the day supporting their newly released War album.
I remember seeing this when it first came out and thinking "This band sounds incredible at a live show". I have seen U2 maybe 5 times in all the years since. They have sounded incredible live every time. Few bands can even say that. Great shows.

I have been a U2 fan since I first heard them. As a bass guitarist I have huge respect for Adam Clayton. Certain songs I play every Sunday are "Sunday Bloody Sunday", and "New Year's Day" come December 31st. Of course I listen to all of their songs year round, and can play a vast majority of them, but it does crack me up when I'm playing and the audience has no clue as to what the true meaning behind most of the songs are. Let them be ignorant, I suppose. Anyway, U2 has inspired my life and countless others. Love you guys! Keep on rocking!
U2 is my oldest love in music. Bono's voice, Edge's great sound and guitar playing and the solid and original spine of the band with Larry and Adam who are always forgotten... Juts one of the best bands still active that never changed a band member and that was never afraid to take chances. I would love your input on our last video. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me : th-cam.com/video/ufF4gUA_6rQ/w-d-xo.html

One of the best venues for music the world will ever see. U2 made this special.
The absolute best version of it...When U2 was still a hungry Irish Rock band....Wish they had stayed like this...
I fully agree.

Let me guess, you watch CNN and/or NBC?
This man is fantastic! He can put the Irish anger into words and music and get the point across without raising his hand.

@@justinbarnett9476 Larry wanted to use a military drumbeat - of course the snare drum was originally played by soldiers.
This live performance will always be better than the studio version to me.
@Lily Bannon This was at Red Rocks in Colorado
Bono came out before the show to give hot drinks and refreshments to the fans who showed up early. They really had no choice but to do the show, they were on the hook for $25 K in costs to have the thing filmed. that day.
Too bad Divynils and The Alarm didn't play though
Djevel Kjokken AWESOME! Weather made the Video and the Show !
Djevel Kjokken what city? Denver?
What a beautiful, powerful song. I love watching these videos from when they were so young.

I can't believe the news today
Oh, I can't close my eyes
And make it go away
How long
How long must we sing this song
How long, how long
'Cause tonight, we can be as one
Tonight
Broken bottles under children's feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I won't heed the battle call
It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
And the battle's just begun
There's many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters
Torn apart
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
How long
How long must we sing this song
How long, how long
'Cause tonight, we can be as one
Tonight, tonight
Sunday, Bloody Sunday

Man, if there's one memory that sticks out for me as a kid of 12 years old, it was seeing this video on MTV. I had never heard of U2, and I had no idea what this song was about. But I knew that it was an anthem of great importance and coupled with the flames high above the stage, Bono's march to the opening beat and those melancholy guitar chords, I was mesmerized.
As a kid seeing this on mtv I was floored by the song and fascinated by the venue they were performing in. 30 plus years later this is still totally awesome.
Figure out a way to get here to Red Rocks for a show. Best venue in the world.
Saw Wilco at Red Rocks awhile back and Jeff Tweedy was lamenting, "How come we don't get the U2 torches?"
Listnening to this masterpiece today, January 30 2022. Fifty years ago, the event that the song tells about took place in Derry, Northern Ireland. I would like to pay respect to all the family and friend of those who lost their lives on that terrible day.
So good to know that there are good people who remember and pay respect to the victims ...NO MORE WAR! .".wipe your tears away" 💫

*One of the greatest songs in recorded music history. 🤘🤙🏻🔥👏*
What a masterpiece and legendary moment,,, what a talent and performer Bono is
This anthem was captured at the famous *Red Rocks Amphitheater* during a filming of the "Under a Blood Red Sky" concert on a cold, wet and dreary evening of *June 5th, 1983*. Shot live in Morrison, just outside Denver, CO. it captures all the heart, sweat & glory of an early U2 show back in the day supporting their newly released War album.

I’ve always loved this song, it’s my favorite U2 song. It’s neat to see their clothes, they were so far ahead of us.

Na minha modesta opinião Sunday Bloody Sunday é um divisor de águas na carreira do U2...Bono Vox novinho no auge da beleza juvenil...um clássico ATEMPORAL...Brasil ama esses caras....
