  • The Gemini wheel aero covers are the only thing left on the car that isn't matte black or white. In this video I share my experience using Plasti-Dip to complete the cheap and easy DIY mod of painting the Tesla Model Y Gemini wheel covers black. I plan to powder coat the wheels in the future, but for now this gives a great look at low cost and effort. Thanks for watching and subscribing!

    Great job with the aero covers.. looks great. Good to know that it took 3 cans to do that.

    That silver ring looks badass; very reminiscent of old-school whitewall tires. I think it would look phenomenal on a red Model Y.

      A couple months ago I saw a red performance model y and it looked amazing

    You can put on rim rash guard to change color of the silver ring. The black and white should go well with a red ring.

    it’s not terrible, but I say pop the hub caps off and powder it black. We opted for the 20s. Keep up the great videos. I hope to make some videos soon, too

      No No ! ...don't use plasti dip.NO NO !!
      Use Hyper Dip ! It is 100 times better
      I did my wheels with plasti dip & never looked right, then used "Hyper Dip" and looked professional, been 6 months & holding up very well , specially made for wheels 👍

    Hey Murray! Finally got my delivery date (May 30). DOB is May 13 out of Fremont. Planning on plasti dipping the wheels first thing!

    I actually like the silver ring 🤷🏽‍♂️
    I have a CyberTruck preordered and it’s taking everything in me not to bite the bullet and just get a Performance Y.
    Great Content.

      Honestly, the wheels have grown on me so much since I did them. I was luke warm on them when I made the video but I am now super happy with them... they look so much better. And yes, we are waiting for our Cybertruck as well!

    Looks like you have nice tinting going on as well. Which windows got tinted and what levels?

    You can also add a clear coat at the end, and for the rim you could use a pinstripe tape which is far better than an electric tape.

      Wouldn't pinstripe tape be too skinny? its only 1/4 of an inch.

    Great work and really appreciate your efforts to make this video. I am also planning to do the same. What is your experience after washing them? can i use a brush to scrub the dirt. hope that wont remove the paint.

    • @CanAmTeslaFam
      @CanAmTeslaFam  ปีที่แล้ว

      Coming up on 2 years now and they still look great. A gentle brush shouldn't be a problem at all.

      I am impressed - they have been power washed a couple times now and they are holding up great!

    6-10 COATS? WOW, approximately how many cans is that?

    • @CanAmTeslaFam

      I as putting it on way too light... It was 3 cans total.

      I am about to do this just trying to decide to go with the plasti dip you used or “peel coat”. Thoughts? Also did you clean them with alcohol first or just wet rag?

    • @CanAmTeslaFam
      @CanAmTeslaFam  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just washed and dried them, no alcohol. Plasti-dip can also be peeled off apparently, but I can't say enough how happy I am with the quality. They have been power washed multiple times now and they look as good as the day I did them.

    Don't wanna just get different wheels? Because you want oem? Tough call going for painted oem or third party. Both devalue car similarly but oem is great.

    • @CanAmTeslaFam
      @CanAmTeslaFam  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is temporary until we move south... I thought I would let these wheels enjoy winter and once we are in a warm climate I would replace them, probably with TSportline ones.

      And you lose range with the other tires and without the caps. 3-5 % per trip.
