    5 day review: painted the covers matte black and used 3M’s Extreme Weather Electrical tape ($4). Putting on the electrical tape was by far the easiest and best looking part of the process. If only the Gemini covers could look so clean like the electrical tape! The real test I think will be 100+ degree temps and when washing the rims.
    I’m 100% satisfied and don’t regret doing this one bit. Seriously black Gemini’s look way, way better on all colored Y’s than the ugly light silver/dark silver.

    I like what you did with masking off the small section to give it a two tone look. I have a White model Y and was thinking of doing a similar two tone, but I wanted to plastic dip the section you masked in White with the pearlizer top coat. Then mask it off just like you did and do the rest of the wheel cover in matte black. My question is: will the masking tape cause any damage, sticking, or pealing issues when putting it on over the white plasti dip? I would do the multi coats of white and pearlizer as you did, then let it sit for 24 to 48 hours before starting the mask job, then doing the black.

      I think if you wait like you mentioned and use good tape like frogtape you should be good. Mine are still good.

    I'm guessing this is how Tesla painted the hubcaps from factory, explains why the silver part has so much black overspray.

      I live in a much hotter climate, so the electrical tape is likely to just melt away. Any alternative ideas?

    • @HypocritesExposd
      @HypocritesExposd ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually electrical tape is supposed to be able to reach up to 200 degrees F before it breaks down, so this should work for me. Painted my rims, now to apply the tape!

      I had to reapply a couple of rims after 1 yr. Then reapply again after 6m after a new tire (tire guy removed it)

    Hey how come you left a thin strip of original black as you mention at 2.40? Also if you leave a black strip when taping, what's the point in the little crevis tool? Thanks! Looks awesome.

    • @HypocritesExposd
      @HypocritesExposd ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The thin strip at 2:40 is in case you accidentally tape a little bit of the light silver color part of the wheel cover. It’ll look really bad if there’s a tiny bit of light silver showing after the spray paint job.

    Great video. I'm awaiting delivery of my white MY and I think I might give this a try.
    Wansnt sure about the electrical tape part, but since you did its still holding up, it can't be too bad. And the "you can replace it, after the girl hit he curb" kinda got me. 🙃
    not sure if I've ever seen similar rubber coatings in German hardware stores. Would you expect spray paint to work and hold up just as well?
    I'd probably not plan on removing it anyway or might get a replacement from the tesla store if results were too bad after some time.

    • @flowingcolor
      @flowingcolor  ปีที่แล้ว

      Electrical tape is great because it's very flexible. The rubber coat spray should be the same in Europe. It can be removed. It can also be touched up if road rash happens.

    • @RobFood
      @RobFood 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The wheel is silver and the black wheel covers don't cover the entire wheel so there will be a silver ring visible with the black wheel cover on, putting the tape makes it all black
