My personal "old" iOS device that I prefer is my 3rd gen touch. It was from before the time when Apple started actively crippling the iPod touches (the 4th gen touch has only 256MB of RAM, for example) so it's basically a full fledged 3GS where it matters and that thing screams through iOS 5.1.1. I adore the crap out of the little thing.
I have an iPad 2 that I downgraded to 6.1.3 and it does it's job pretty well. Aside from me not being able to restore any purchases in apps or they just crash, it's a really nice way to play old games tat the newer models don't support.

What’s surprising is I have a Galaxy Tab 3 10.3 from 2013 and it is UTTERLY USELESS, no App Store, no modern browser, email app doesn’t work, even the damn weather widgets don’t update anymore. It’s actually insane how much more usable this OLDER iPad is than the Tab 3, which rarely got any updates itself.
Imagine what could happen if someone tells you that you can install any old apk on it and it will work. You know, this weird tech for poor people that allows you to do what you please, and not what the company which produced it tells you to - you never know what to expect from it.
This brings me back. It feels like just yesterday installing Cydia on my iPod touch on iOS 4. iOS 7 was the first time I got embarrassingly excited about new software 🤣 I've long switched to Android right after that, but that old iOS just hits different.

Maybe that's because back in the iOS 7 days the new look was fresh, but I still think it looks nice with the gradients and such. Nothing beats iOS 4-6 though.
Thats the neat thing with age old Android Versions. If its Android 8 or newer, everything works. If its 6 or 7 most things still work. And if its even older you can still sideload most things. The problem with iOS even if you get one of these you still can't get these oldschool Apps.

I used an old tiny Smasnug phone and I was surprised to see it run smoother than my chinese phone. It was my last resort after I dropped my then new phone, but it ran better. Phones are like shoes. If you buy cheap(chinese) ones you end up spending more than if you got an expensive Smasnug which lasts for years

my main device was an ipod touch 5 on ios 84.1 thru 9.3.5 for FAR longer than it was okay to use, but jailbreaking and coolbooter letting me use ios 6 has it useful again. in FACT, its the only device that reliable talks to my dad's modern Mitsubishi Triton with its POS infotainment. carplay has worked ONCE on it with my iPhone 11 Pro and that was the only time I found out it existed. Also it needs the usb plugged in or the bluetooth doesnt work, calls kick it off bluetooth its a MESS. but ios 6 ipod touch? it knows how to do that

Nah, those are laggy as hell. Just get an iphone 5 + ipad 4 already, both on 6.1.4 legit without dualboot. Ipad Air 1 on 7.1.2 is also pretty nice and the A7 is powerful enough to run any game without a hitch. Compared to iPad 1 its roughly 24 times more powerful, about same difference as A7 vs M2 haha.

I shit you not that iOS update took a whole night i put it on charge I put it on update at night 12 pm it took atleast 10 hours to update . iPhone in early days was really made for North America only I guess at that time I think I heard the news on tv America has next gen internet that fastest 3g speed it can download at 100 Mbps I was blown away man . i still have my iphone 4, it has a chip in the screen that formed a single crack down it from a nail file i threw onto my bed and it landed on it, i am very tempted to fix it up and keep it as a memory as it was my first smart phone
The fact that iOS updates and software just stops working is so disgusting, there's some very notable games that are delisted and you literally cannot play them on any device anymore, like the Infinity Blade games, which were a key "milestone" in mobile gaming. Stuff like this is why mobile gaming is a complete joke and not worth paying attention to.

It's a shame that Safari is updated through system software updates rather than just as an app store app. A crappy slow device is way more useful if it can actually render web pages correctly. Maybe the one thing that ancient android stuff has going for it is the ability to just slap firefox on there.

There's ways to sideload old junk with a computer, but old iOS is really best jailbroken at this point.
