  • A detailed breakdown of the parts and steps needed to create and install a custom air intake on a 1983-1986 Honda Shadow VT500C. This is my first motorcycle after 2 years of work. Feel free to ask any questions I will answer as best I can

Love this!! Thank you !!! 🙏🏽 I have an 83 750 and I hate the lack of space to work with because of the big A$$ air box

With no airbox there now I actually use it as a hidden storage compartment 🤭

My 84 Shadow 500 has been good to me so far as is stock, but looking into customizing it a lot over this winter. I need to swap to a digital speedometer/tach and this vid on the air intake is the best looking I've seen so far how did you end up going about re-jetting carbs and tuning etc.?

Trial and error rejetting the carbs - just an ebay kit, i only used some shimms and clipped my vacuum springs - that achieved the junk yard mixture i was looking for.
I really need to swap to tach/speedo that is not mechanical. Let me know how that goes?

@phillt4040 Love the video! There's just not enough room to run the pods straight out the carbs, and this looks like a sleek solution.
Do you think there wouldn't be enough airflow if you ran an adapter straight out the back of the snorkel to a pod filter?

I didn't consider trying that, this is the first idea I had and it worked out really well

Why would you put it out sticking like that? What's wrong with the normal configuration? I get it if it was right on the engine, but it sticking out behind your leg...

Primarily, personal preference. I like how it looks. Secondarily, this imitates a cold air intake you would see on a car. The longer and more narrow pipe, along with the bend in the air path will increase air pressure, keep the air cool, and change the tune of the exhaust a bit. The original air intake outlet is under the seat and mostly covered. My bike is jetted so it needs more airflow. Oem is always more efficient, no question. But I like pops bangs n flames. Hope this answered your question.
