Just a word of advice when you pour gasoline on a bike that's sparking from the jumper cables probably want to do it outside and not next to your inventory just in case it goes poof 😂
Ah my second bike. 1986 Shadow 500 in that same red. Yep, I'm old enough to have bought it new. That was one absolutely fantastic motorcycle. Shaft drive, water cooled with auxiliary fans that would kick on when needed. Extremely comfortable on road trips with a very smoooooth ride. One caveat -- passengers had to learn NOT to attempt using that little back jabbing spine breaker as an actual backrest and more of a butt stop.
My first bike was a Chinese hawk 250 😂 I’m now onto my third bike (first bike that’s not a dirt bike and that I’m gonna ride on the road) and it’s the same exact bike and year and color as the one you described I believe I need to get a starter for it really hoping I can get it on the road asap
My first street motorcycle ever, and the one that I learned on, was a 1985 Honda Shadow 500 back in 2003. I loved that bike. It was light yet snappy. I rode the heck out of it and did all my young "hooliganing" on it. It had a well done custom paint job, navy blue with silver flames. She was a looker. Ended up selling it for double what I paid for it. Now days I ride a Vulcan 900, but I still miss that bike sometimes.

I bust out laughing when you said get the electronics (soaked in gas). BTW, my very first bike was a Honda 550 Nighthawk and this one reminds me of it even though the Nighthawk was a I4. It was such a great bike and brought me into the world of riding my own motorcycle. Previously my only experience was riding someone else's bike. Way back when my first experience was a mini bike that a friend in neighborhood let me ride. DONE!!!! I was HOOKED! I never got to own my own (2 wheel powered vehicle) until the Nighthawk. I dont have an offer to make. I just wanted to say that i would love to make a deal for a motorcycle from your shop one of these days. Maybe even give you my suzuki savage 650 as a trade in or something. I think it would be the coolest thing to see a vid with myself in it or maybe even a bike that i traded to you for something different. My next bike, i am really leaning towards a goldwing. I just love the way those bikes look and how much room and comfort they have for my wife on the back. Bro, I live your vids, I watch them everyday like it's my releigon. Keep up the amazing vids man!!!
My dad had that exact same bike, same color, same year and even the same size. He used to take me for rides on it growing up, so many memories, he has since sold it and got a newer shadow.
You can still buy replacement parts for the old gas cans on Amazon or other retailers . I retrofitted all my newer cans back to the older style filler neck. Hope this helps your frustration. We've all been there.
I had the '86 Shadow 500 in candy apple red I bought new. $2600. Top speed 86mph,air adjustable front forks that would walk you into the incoming road on undulating curves.Brings back the memories. Yours is missing the sissy bar back rest with the lockable rear compartment
Riding those cheap old beaters is actually a lot of fun. You can beat the piss out of them and do things that you would never feel comfortable trying with your nice bikes and no big deal if you dump those over. My first motorcycle was a 1978 Yamaha 750 Special with the top speed of 110 for the shape it was in. I had a blast on that bike learning to do wheelies and Donuts on the road keeping my feet on the pegs. I never did dump it over either. Kind of wish I still had a beater to progress with
Just now seeing this video. I bought my 85 shadow new. After about a year kill switch went out. Would crank over but would not start. Had to sell 2 years later after losing job. Great Bike.

must be nice to be a dealer who can go to those kinds of auctions. Those bikes are really nice looking for the money, worth putting a few hundred bucks into if they needed it.
You've bought the cheapest bike at the auction but they're also one of the best bikes ever made. Best bike Honda ever made in my opinion. Dont sell it for peanuts. Bikers who know their bikes and build custom bikes will chew your arm off for a good condition VT500 or VT700 as they make an excellent bobber. They sell for between 1500 euro and 3000 euro over here in Ireland in that condition. I just finished restoring my own 85 VT700 which was imported from the US. Personally I think you should keep this bike and do a full restoration/custom bobber build on it. It would make a great video. They're technically simple to work on and crazy reliable. The quality of parts that went into those bikes back then by Honda doesnt happen anymore. The only weak point on those bikes is the rear swingarm. The box metal part in front of the rear tyre wasnt welded properly so water gets in and they rust from the inside out so nowadays most of them need to be taken off and welded up to repair so they are road safe. Check the frame on the left side near where the swingarm mounting bolt screws in as it may have a large rust hole as well near the original th-cam.com/video/xCHhKuaytiQ/w-d-xo.html
Brilliant, i feel the same way, the vt500 is a fantastic bike, just a shame alot of people don't seem to know this, like a smaller magna nearly, everyone that rides one is surprised at how quick they can be, especially for an 80s cruiser, engine lasts forever, 6speed, shaft drive, it's a great bike overall.
The Shadow is one of the worst Hondas. Pretty but a lot of poor design decisions and they have a lot of problems. You see no shortage of non-running ones on Facebook. The Classic Rebel was the best bike's Honda ever made.
I just bought one for $400. Thankfully they go cheap here in USA because if it isn't a Harley bagger, Bubba don't want it. I'm going to build mine into a scrambler with highpipes and a skidplate. Using One-Off Moto's Kage build as inspiration.

I bought an 82 VT750 for 500 on Ebay. It had like 5K miles on it. I drove from Granby, CT to Deary New Hampshire and loaded it in the back of my truck. I rode that bike for like 10 years. I rode the crap out of that bike, rain, snow, sleet, and all weather. I changed the oil one a month. The most expensive thing I ever had to do was replace the stator for 300 dollars. It was shaft drive and there really wasn't much in the way of maintenance beyond tires and brake shoes. I sold it to a Harley Tech at Gengras HD in East Hartford when I bought my FLSTF in 2001 and he chopped it. That bike is still on the road and it never had valve job, or any kind of rebuild. You can't kill a honda shadow for nothing. I have had my FLSTF since 2001 and at 65K I replaced the cams, tensioner, and oiler to be upgraded to modern specs but that's it on the FLSTF.

We'll take the best offer, as long as it's cash! haha
That was the first bike I bought for myself... I loved it.
125.01 and a dozen ears of Iowa’s finest sweet corn 🌽. Hell I’ll even throw in a bushel of Busch light 🍻. Would do a sweet video riding it back to Iowa as well.
That is the same bike that I had , my first bike, after some trades and 30 years of driving I now have a ZZR1400.
But the first bike gave me most joy, ZZR 1400 is of course fun fun fun fun
My name is Miguel, I am from Tijuana. For the Honda, I offer my sister, Maria.....Maria asks you auction the bike to your audience for whatever you can get and donate to St Judes Children hospital!
Where is that from if you don't mind me asking
I forgot that this channel still owes me one sweatshirt that i ordered. They ran out of color that i wanted and ask for another item but it didn’t came. Oh well, here i am still entertained watching. 😂
😂 yes perfect! Soak everything really good with gas first always!
And make sure the jumper cables are producing nice big fat sparks...
A 85 Shadow 500 was my very first bike, same burgudy colour as well. It was given to me by an uncle for free so I could use to learn the ropes before trading in on a sportbike, that damn thing was indestructible! It was the perfect first bike
A 70s something Harley sprint in pieces, and a Bible

wow im quite late to this video, i had no clue this bike exists, i think im in love guys:
anyone that owns this beauty can tell me more about it?, i think i know what my next bike is gonna be, and i want to know more about it.
I own the 1983 version of this bike and it's a great around town and back roads bike. Great gas milage and super cheap on insurance. The only issue I have with mine is that above 75 it starts to vibrate.
@@wyohotspots oh awesome, i actually forgot about this comment, by 75 im gonna asume that you mean 75MPH, which is fine for me, IF i can find one i'm not gonna ride it that fast.
I had one of these in 1999.. got it for $350. I fixed a couple minor things and put some new tires and it ran great.. very stable bike..
8:35 you saw that spark on that passenger peg right.?
I was wondering that myself and couldn't tell if it was just me or if I really saw it
I was waitin for the gas to ignite
Without a shiload of rewiring that's the only spark he'll ever get with that bike.
Lmao yea
Three antique french novels, a Johns Hopkins t-shirt, a signed photo of me shirtless holding the American flag atop my 1970 mustang, and a firm southern handshake
Winner

Classic NES with 2 controllers (and a duck hunt gun) and two games (Paperboy2 and Friday the 13th). I'll also consider throwing in a Sega Genesis model 2 with controllers and a few games!
I can trade my failed dreams and all my hopes for tomorrow and throw in my Twinkie I’ve been saving for the end of days !!
The commercial was actually for the 700. I had a 1983 500 Shadow that I loved.

I have a 1986 Honda TRX 70 that I have rebuilt but still needs a little work to be perfect. I had a 1984 Honda Shadow 700 in "Medium metallic Scorpio Red". Great color! Wait, I have about $1,000 the TRX so I guess I do not want to trade.
I’ll teach you how to play D&D and run an epic session in exchange for this bike 👍
That Honda is a beautiful machine .
there's a man who's never had a bike fire. really. they happen that quick.
especially with that jump box sparking
Bought a bike for cheap on craigslist. Got in a rush and didn't put the air filter box back on when I was trying to adjust the carbs. One was overflowing and I didn't notice until the engine backfired. And that's how a $400 and 4 day project turned into many months of work in about a minute.
I love the old bikes like that. Hope it goes to a good home 😎👊
I’ll offer you to be on my TH-cam channel lmao jk😂 I’m not to big yet but great vid guys Ima save up money and buy one of your bikes one day
It was the best custom at that time and is still a beautiful bike today.

Need a cohort? I can use one of those cart things you put your leg up on when you have a bum stump and scoot around. We could use it as a distraction! It would really F them up!! 🤣

I don't care if the title and how much he said that the bike was bought for don't match I still love these videos
