    As a painter we have to clean baseboards and trim all the time, Krud Cutter works great. It's amazing how if you just cleaned the baseboards they look almost like you just painted them. The paint also sticks much better and many time a single coat will do the job. Skip this step and the paint often has nothing to grip to

      @@bossysimon900 If you’re just looking to clean something I would probably use Fantastic, Krud Cutter definitely cleans but it also removes that gunk layer so it could leave a dull finish on flooring. I tried washing windows one time and it leaves a film

    • @cbow5582
      @cbow5582 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A swiffer like mop is excellent for baseboards! The stick is just as long as a broom and it bends up against the baseboards. You can dry dust or wet clean with it. I found a really good one at a Dollar tree store with the washable pads. The stick, swivel head and a few pads were only $5!

  • @ceralith942
    @ceralith942 2 ปีที่แล้ว +39

    Swiffer has extender handles as well (instead of the short handheld). They market them for hard-to-reach places like ceiling fans, but it works great for low areas without bending as well.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      YES! The Swiffer 6ft is my preference over the 3 ft extender. If you are going to get one or the other, go with the 6ft - the handle is better and the head is more durable.

    I do ceiling fans, baseboards, light fixtures EVERY time in every room. Make sure you have this in mind when you clean. All together it does not take 5 min each room. Whether they look or feel clean or not just make it a rule and do it anyway. THAT will make your work noticeable!

      Boss Lady use a pillowcase....I spray the inside of a king size pillowcase lightly with cleaner (I prefer Armstrong Multi-Surface) then place the fan blade inside the pillowcase & use hands on each side of fan blade to clean....all the dust stays inside the pillowcase. Hope this makes sense, easy to do but hard for me to explain.

      Agreed. I've had my own cleaning business for over 9 yrs now, just me, by myself, so need to do things as efficiently & easily as possible. ( Also have a bad disc in my low bk, so wear a support belt). At home, I have a steam mop, so I use the front of that on my baseboards. Just did it this morning actually! I've also used Swiffer or Bona mops this way at clients homes.

    I am new to this channel and I am not a pro. I have a difficult affective disorder and I discovered to my surprise that cleaning is very therapeutic and meditative so now I really enjoy doing it. I am in no hurry so I have the luxury of spending time on the task which aids mindfulness.
    I do not have OCD, germophopia and I am not really a perfectionist but baseboards have always been my pet peeve and obviously most people ignore them even while keeping the floors spotless.
    I have four big dogs so a perfect showroom home is not really possible at all times, but I love learning from pros and this channel offers me interesting glimpses to the actual vocation.

    I wrap a microfiber cloth from the $1 store around the broom with a rubber band. I’ll sometimes spritz it with a little pledge. It’s no bending at all and gets in corners and edges perfectly just like a broom would. The microfiber grabs the dust like a dream and you don’t need a separate tool.

    “The hallmark of a good housekeeper are clean baseboards.”
    So glad you said that. I interviewed two highly recommended ones last year when our business was extra busy (yes, during COVID). They looked at me like I had two heads and had highly insulted them when I asked them to figure doing baseboards twice per month in their fee. I decided to hire no one because of it. That being said, I’m now playing catch-up in my own home, while also trying to live in it during remodeling. It’s a tad overwhelming!

      Amy, I’ve been cleaning houses for 15 years…. your baseboards should be dusted every clean, now if you want them wet washed or a magic eraser used on them, that’d be on a deep clean. I know, I’ve been extra busy since covid as well and I’m still playing catch-up as well 😩, after 60-70 hours cleaning others homes and offices, I’m too tired to clean my own 😂

I recall my grandmother saying those were definitely the most important rooms in need of daily care. The rest can be on hold till I can see dog hair taking over!

      I loved cleaning baseboards and trim when I was a kid and old enough to do it. We lived on a ranch and... the hunting dogs were allowed in the house AND there were 6 kids. We had a live-in "mother's helper" but even she couldn't keep up with the mess we could make. So OK, when it was time, Mother filled a bucket with soapy water, poured in a BIG dose of ammonia, dropped in the sponge and handed me the old towels. .... watching the dirt and grime disappear was...FUN! I felt so powerful.

    One cleaner to another, always dust High area 1st then low. Start at the cieling and work your way down. The Swiffer can come with a extention wand up to 7 feet, No need to bend over. We also use a rolling tile dolly ( when we need to use the magic eraser) saving our back. Also if the base boards are flat without many grooves or to grimy we use a damp flat mop that we can also wash the wall's with at the same time.
