    I've used a skateboard to help traverse the baseboards during cleaning. Sitting on it helps preserve my knees and back. Idk if this would work on carpet though.

    I live in an apartment and one day I actually noticed that my bathroom baseboards looked yellow so I sprayed them with a degreaser let it set, took my mop soaked with a drop if Dawn dish soap and hot water, sat on the toilet seat and ran my mop along the baseboards and realized they were actually a beige vinyl and hand wiped the baseboard behind the toilet. To save your back and knees. Use one of those chomp handles with the mop pad, use some Zep foaming wall cleaner. That works very well. The best way is to use a brush, but that is a bit slow. Maybe if it's a small house.

      It's true, most of the jobs we do now "the hard way" are from new clients who haven't cleaned the baseboards in a while. It's more common with vacation homes where the family is away for several months of the year. I know during Covid, lots of people put their cleaning services on hold for a while - when the cleaners came back - they had to clean the baseboards the hard way. LOL.

    I have central vac and I use the brush attachment and vacuum my baseboards once each month. I am always surprised that house cleaners do not understand that dust falls on all flat surfaces. For me, I think scrubbing baseboards with a brush and chemicals would breakdown your paint. For people who do not clean often, then I suspect a brush is necessary. Love your channel ❤

    You can use an ocedar easywring mop that has a two tank system to seperate dirty and clean water. You can launder the mop head. And then you can use the slightly damp mop to clean your baseboards as well as your crown molding. It “looks” odd but it’s effective. You can use a clean dry mop head to dry it.

    I was asked a few months ago if I would like to earn a little extra money and clean the office of a non-profit organization. It had been neglected. I am not a professional cleaner and your videos have helped so much. They only have budgeted for two hours per week so it is taking me some time. I have not quite got all the areas that are public in shape yet but I’m getting there. I’ve got some areas that I’m not exactly sure how to clean. The walls under the paper towel dispensers have water marks. I’m not sure how to safely clean so I don’t damage the paint. I usually only have 30 minutes to do the “extra” cleaning that is not included in what is required. I appreciate your videos. Thank you.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What type of surface are the paper towel dispensers hanging on? Is it drywall with a flat paint? If yes, you will have to be careful because even a magic eraser with too much pressure can take off the paint. If it is a ceramic tile wall, then a degreaser like Krud Kutter Original Degreaser/Cleaner in a spray bottle would be a good bet. (Here's the paid link amzn.to/3vinm8R it looks like this - but can be found cheaper by the gallon at Home Depot.)

    Angela, do you charge your clients a extra fee for this deep cleaning? And do you do it on the same day as the entire regular house cleaning or a separate day? Thank you.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes and no. Yes we charge more - we sell a deep cleaning service that is separate from the maintenance clean and includes a bunch of different tasks that are not done on a weekly or bi-weekly clean. The deep clean takes place 4 times per year. And no, it is not usually done on the same day as a maintenance clean - UNLESS, another person from the company comes and does the deep clean while the regular cleaner is doing the maintenance clean. Does that make sense? You can learn more about it in our paid training savvycleaner.com/maintenance-vs-deep-cleaning

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, cleaning for the most part as a professional is an economy game. Time is of the essence and so we use as few tools as possible to get the job done. Most of the time we have a vacuum with us, so vacuuming the floors, including hardwoods, vinyl, LVP, carpets - we will use a vacuum. And most modern vacuums come with hardwood and crevice tools which do the same function as a broom. If the client has a dust mop and we are cleaning 3,000 ft of hardwood we may use their dust mop. (Paid link amzn.to/3ejLSBr - so you can see what I'm talking about.)

And thank you what do you think I should charge? I live in Texas, oh and my landlord pays me $60 for cleaning for 4 hours, and her mom gives me $40, and it's a 2,000 square footage home.

      @AskAngelaBrown  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi and congratulations on your new cleaning business. Because it sounds like moving forward you are running a business, it's time to get insurance and charge business prices. If you live in Texas your rates will be between $50 and $65 per hour to start out, and you will provide all your own cleaning supplies. We have a program I recommend going through at savvycleaner.com that will help you set your business up as a business and then not be taken advantage of because you know how to run a business. "helping friends out" with cleaning is a hobby, not a business. And remember there are millions of homes in Texas, people will pay your prices.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a great question. The answer depends on the cleaner. If the cleaner is working efficiently with all their supplies at their fingertips, it's a mere process of working backwards down the wall. Every room has a finite amount of baseboards - so an entire home could be cleaned in a couple of hours if the cleaner focuses.

    How do you work around electrical outlets that are installed in a baseboard? I figure you can't use the soapy brush, but wonder about a safe and effective workaround. Maybe a wood wipe or a once-misted microfiber?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually outlets have plastic faceplates that protect the electrical circuit. The part you have to be worried about is the little open part where the plugs go. If you are careful you can clean around that area. Or hold your finger over the opening while you clean. Don't overthink it, it's a simple job.

      I don't know how you run your deep cleans but the deep clean is everything you DON'T clean on a maintenance clean. We have a paid course called Maintenance vs. Deep Cleaning savvycleaner.com/maintenance-vs-deep-cleaning that walks you room by room through 68 different types of living spaces to show you what to clean on a maintenance vs. deep cleaning. Hi Debbie, do you know about the spin mops? Here is a paid link amzn.to/3Rbi33Q to one and this one is great because it is lightweight. It has a mop bucket with a foot pedal so you dip the mop in, lift it in the top part and squeeze it out by stepping on the foot pedal.
      With the damp mop, you can scrub the baseboards while standing and you don't have to bend.
      NOTE: I don't know how tall you are - this mop handle is on the shorter side (you will hate it if you are my height 5"8') So if you are super tall, go with the Libman amzn.to/3S9D0gM - same concept, longer handle.

      In any situation you have to use your best judgment. If you can get to the baseboards behind the base heaters, awesome. If not, you may have to get creative. If you don't have the room to fit your hand and a scrub brush but you have visible gunk on the baseboards, you can take a yard stick and put a wet sock over the top of it and rubber band it in place. The yard stick will give you leverage to shimmy the sock up and down against the baseboard and clean it.

    I have a question? Why do we have to use the iron scrub brush when that dish scrubber is so much easier to use. I like the longer handle. Is the extra scrubbing power of the iron scrub brush really necessary on a baseboard?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can use any scrub brush you like. I use the handheld scrub brush because the faceplate is much wider than the dish scrubber and allows you to cover more territory in a shorter amount of time. In comparison, the handheld brush (while sturdy,) has softer bristles than the dish scrubber so it is less abrasive. For those two reasons, I prefer the handheld brush for baseboards. The dish brush I use because of the skinny brush on the back which is great for corners and the first grove in standard baseboards. To me, both brushes serve a purpose. And the big soft-bristled brush acts as a broom almost that removes any excess dust or dirt or pet fur/hair before scrubbing. (And trust me, nothing is worse than skipping that step and then having matted hair and dust in the water while you try to clean, or stuck in the bristles of your other brushes.) 😫

      It may be a good idea to hire someone to help out with this initial cleaning, then you can maintain it after that with a Swiffer 6 Ft Extender. I'm sorry to hear about your knees, I do hope you feel better soon. 🙏

    As a professional house cleaner did you mean you dry clean them at every clean or wet clean them at every clean? What about the baseboards that have furniture in front of them? One more thing sometimes with clients baseboards it's hard to tell if there really dirty or just really beaten up over the years. How can you tell the difference? I love your videos, you really know your stuff. You have helped me with working in clients home and my own house.

      Dust (dry clean) every two weeks on a maintenance clean
      Wipe down (damp clean if necessary on a deep clean) 4 x per year.
      If you try to clean a beat up baseboard and it refuses to come clean and you tried all the methods in this video, you may just have a beat up baseboard. In the thumbnail picture of this video on the right side (the After picture) there is a nick in the door frame. I tried to scrub it clean when I realized it's a nick in the wood and the wood is raw. Nothing you can do about that except for painting. Do the best you can.
