When I watched this, a year, or so, ago, and discovered that this was an option (installing the struts), I must say that it was one of the best things I did on my XTerra! I just wanted to drop by and say THANK YOU! 😉😃
Ive noticed from my experience everyone I beleive is installing the arms the wrong way, I installed them like that and the one arm on its own would not hold the hood up but if you install them the other way with bigger part on the frame and smaller part on hood one arm will hold the up on its own making it easier to install the other side
I just installed the struts thanks to your video (it came with no instructions, but I do see the vendor has linked your video). One word of caution, if the hood slides off the original bracket before you can get the strut bracket on there, it can flip up and torque over the prop rod putting a huge strain on the opposite hinge (I found out the hard way, fortunately I did not bend the hood). Great video!
Just installed these on my 2005 Xterra Off Road. Funny how something as simple as this makes all the difference in the world. Thanks for this tutorial and recommendation! Didn't even need to add the washers!
Aww Ryan I just did this on my X and was looking for a tutorial from you! I was accidently installing it upside down! We the people need your guidance!
Just knocked this out pretty quick, referencing this video to see which way things are supposed to face. The kit I got from Z1 had some annoying pins that my fat fingers kept dropping, but otherwise easy. Took around 10 minutes including looking for a pin I lost under the truck. Next up, rear hatch struts to replace the ones that aren't quite as strong as they should be
nicely done ! this was one of the 1st mods that I did to my Xterra when I got it well also because its so cheap and easy lol , but O just got them off ebay and they been pretty good so far its been a year..
Oh good! When I saw the thumbnail I thought you were going to make a case for why we should not put hood struts under it! Because I just put them on less than a month ago
I bought these same struts too and i will say check the fitment after driving a little while. Mine were making contact with the mounts and causing the hood to bow up a little. Tried to make adjustments but no luck. I was really disappointed, made it super easy to work on the truck and pushed the hood higher up when open. Back to factory. Great video though! Side note I have a Frontier, not a xterra. The xterra might have more room between strut and mount.
Nice video, helpful to me. 2021 Frontier. 👍😎👍 This kit was easy, so easy even an engineer can do it! I did use medium strength thread locker, aka Blue Loctite.
I loved that I did this to mine! I still had trouble on the driver side with on of the stock bolts. Had to use a self-tapper to secure it, but no worries!
😢😢😢 I’ve been wanting to try this for a while. Finally got out there today. Not sure what happened - either my prop rod broke causing the bracket to come off the bolts or the bracket came off the bolts and broke my prop rod. At the end of the day, I’ve got a dog eared hood with scratched paint on both side edges and now that the new struts are installed my hood is locked so tight I can’t even reach the release trigger. 🎉🎉🎉
Was my first mod...do this to most of my vehicles. Its 2021, so dumb today's cars dont come with these from the manufacturer. The under-hood lights is also a no-brainer i wish manufacturers did...i mean..who needs to see under the hood lol. Another quality video by Ry! ^_^ btw...i dont think you've done exhaust yet on your X yet..but i put on an AF intake and an AFE Power cat-back exhaust within the last few weeks...these are both really good mods as they make the X sound like a whole new level (with a slight power bump to boot).
Thank you! Glad you like it and I agree. Exhaust is a great idea. I plan to do it one day but I'm in the middle of this damn engine rebuild lol. Once that's over I am going to start modding the X again.
Ryan, I love your videos! Your videos of the foglight and tailgate struts were so helpful. I'm considering putting in a set of hood struts. I'm not thrilled with the idea of the hood being misaligned because of slipping. Question: on the upper bracket there are two holes to go over the two studs on the hood. Would they still work if I cut off the piece/hole of bracket that goes closest to the windshield and just mount to farthest forward stud, thus eliminating the need to remove one of the nuts entirely? Thanks for your help! And good luck with the swap!
Great install Rye, but the benefit of the hood struts is not closing the hood, it's opening the hood, which was not shown after the install in this video.
Unable to find the part on your amazon page, and the gorilla site doesn't let me add it to a cart. Can you please list a part number for amazon, or any part number for these lift rods. Thanks.
I bought a kit to put on my X. It did not fit. Someone in the forum said to " send it". Don't know what that meant so I "sent it" back. Felt defeated. What brand did you use
lol the kids say "send it" when they mean "just do it, regardless of possible consequences". It's not very helpful advise. I originally bought a kit from Amazon that was not even close to fitting so I "sent it" back too LOL. I'm the video I used the kit from off-road gorilla. They were a great brand but I still had to use a washer to make it fit. Hope this helps.
Hi Ry I ordered the hood prop rod kit got and everything went well until time for the struts the will not compress I tried to push down on them they wouldn't move then place one on the tab thing for the bracket but the bottom strut will not align because it is extended out too far .
