I'm a fan of rap music, I heard this song when I was a kid on the radio, I've looked for this song and band for 20 years. I didn't know the name of the band or words to the song. Just the melody. Found it today. Brings me back to my childhood. Emotional reunion. This band is slept on! They are epic

Since discovering Queensryche about two weeks ago all I do is listen to their music and watch their videos. I purchased two albums and watch Jet City Woman, Eyes of a Stranger, Operation Mindcrime, I Don't Believe In Love, Empire, and Speak over and over. I love their music. Geoff Tate's soaring vocals and the master musicians of the band are untouchable. No other band compares.

Most of the negative stigma surrounding drugs was artificially forced into the collective psyche by intentionally false information and "smear" campaigns such as the "war on drugs", "gore files" and other government or privately funded initiatives. Yes! You explained it so well!
I love how they were always about playing what served and enhanced the song, and not just showing off. So many decent songs are ruined by an over-the-top guitar solo that, musically, has very little connection to the song itself.
They had such a good feel for building a song's intensity and drama, and then counter--pointing with a softer, melodic section that just elevated the whole song!
I LOVE them!! And how I miss all of them being together!

    • @BodhiSoftMobileApps
      @BodhiSoftMobileApps ปีที่แล้ว +11

This solo is a master class in the fundamental purpose of music - storytelling and connection, something that is accomplished through tension and release, conflict and resolution. Chris creates tension and resolution by alternately locking in tight to the rhythm for a couple bars and then floating out of it for a couple bars, both rhythmically and melodically, with soaring bends and freestyle rhythmic phrasing, only to come back and lock right back in, and he keeps alternating between the locked-in and fluid rhythm patterns right into the final flourish. Very much worth studying for guitarists.

Yes, that's one of the first things I noticed about Geoff (along with passion, intensity, expression, range power, overall charisma, etc.) is that he annunciated every word so they could be easily understood. But at the same time, it didn't sound at all stiff, stodgy, or contrived. It sounded very natural. Plus Geoff has such incredible control over his voice, he can add textures and nuances, and STILL be understood.
ALSO, I noticed that he was not a sloppy singer. When he held notes, those notes rang with power till the very end. They didn't just dwindle and fade out.
Such a fantastic singer!! He has spoiled me for most other singers.

I'd crank the music, take off the roof and play this, over and over on cassette thinking I was all that....cuz I was....in my 60s now, and this takes me back a ways.... love driving still, road trips w/ Van Halen, QR, Sammy Hagar...there's no other way to listen to this music than having it cranked, wind in my hair and rockin' out...Nostalgia at its best.

The Empire Album is a well Written, Well Produced Record. The Top of Queensryche Career, in my opinion.
The chemistry between DeGarmos Guitar and Tates Vocals are phenomenal.

My first concert without parents and Queensryche freaking blew my head off. The year before they opened for Metallica but I was just a youngN but man. We need more bands and music like this today. Real music!!

Queensryche is one of the most underrated bands and happens to be one of my favorites. As a member of the younger generation it is my duty to make sure this band lives on. I've already opened a few dozen eyes. Operation Mindcrime has to be one of their best albums. Empire a STRONG second.

I've seen the band live a few times and they still rock after 30 plus years. The video for Jet City Woman is one of the best by the band by far. Geoff Tate was the glue that kept them together for quite a long time. One of the best performers of the 90's.

Back in 1992, followed these fellas from Buffalo NY to Rochester NY
Awesome times. Never forgot. I'm a Cali kid who worked at a mall in West Henrietta. I lived off St Joseph Ave and Norton. Where I remember Metallica and Aerosmith black crows did an awesome show. All the stores got bought out of alcohol.

      Agreed!
They wrote their strongest stuff in that era.
Even when they strayed into stripped back, minimal production mode on Hear in the Now Frontier.....DeGarmo's last effort with the band.....I like that one more all the time.
DeGarmo could get above Tate on those harmonies...that's saying something.
You never know man...I could see them putting some stuff together again...maybe...during Seattle's rainy season some time in the future.
