Well, whether it's popular, or not, is debatable, because there are SO MANY MORE music subgenres, than there were 30 years ago and everyone can find something for themselves. But, nonetheless, I'm glad you like it, man. Rock on! \m/ 😉

She sent me a poster of aic from the Moore Theater, some stickers, and in solemn disbelief, the program from Laynes celebration of life (or funeral) The program had the names Chris Cornell, Mark Lanagan from Screaming Trees, and Nancy and Ann Wilson from Heart. Chris Cornell and Heart did a cover of "Ring them Bells" written by Bob Dylan, and Mark Lanagan read a poem Layne had written. Anyway, I never thought that sending $1 to Laynes foundation would merit anything! Nancy, Laynes mom said encouraging words to me in regards to my opiate dependency. After years of on again off again substance abuse, I'm finally 150 days sober. It gets better. Ok so check this out--- you say they died on the same date 8 yrs apart. Chris and Chester both died the same way and Chester died on Chris' b-day. I seriously think there is something evil linked to a lot these stars deaths. Think about how many rock stars and Hellywood stars that either died young or had someone they were very close to die in a weird way. Such as Eric Clapton's son fell out his apartments high rise window. Many of their loved ones were murdered. Idk, but personally I believe anyone that is allowed to become an Icon has to make a deal with the devil. I think they seriously make an oath of sacrifice. A blood sacrifice. If this seems way too heavy for you then just open your mind and research it all for yourself and make your own decision. Speaking of "Decision" - go watch Alice and Chains video to "It's your decision!" Notice the illuminati sacrifice, sex, and cannibalism clearly portrayed through out the video. @@scottyboy2400 Intelligent people rule NOTHING out. I was recently reconnected with a dude I went to high school with YEARSSSss ago and somehow Nirvana came up and he mentioned how he remembered I was a big fan. We got to talking and he straight up said he didn't think Kurt committed suicide...made me kind of dredge up some past memories of conversations back in the day about how he'd had enough heroin in him to kill an elephant and somehow was able to pull a shotty trigger with his toe? Honestly....I have been a drug fan, an alcohol fan (which is a drug), and if you told me I could win a million dollars if I could position a shotgun into my mouth and pull the trigger with my TOE when I was f_cked up.....there is just no way. You would have to be DETERMINED and completely sober to do this I think. I'm not a police detective, but the evidence and existence of motives by Courtney just obviously imply something else was going on. Ok so let's say Kurt was a straight up suicide...you have great points around the concept that NOT ALL of these deaths could be attributed to just the nature of the beast of rock music... SOMETHING is going on here......
look at this through my eyes born 1974. HEAVY METAL IS WHAT I grew up with ok. but this something special and made me explore. Still my roots are metal but this song made me realize how many great songs are not metal.
Love 98% of AIC's songs but this one, Man In The Box, is my absolute favorite. I'm 53 and can still bang my head to this song. My neck hurts the next day but I'm still there.
My sister used to listen to AIC all the time, she took her own life in 2015 when I was 19 back then I was all into rap and hip hop and didn’t see why she liked this music so much so I listened to them after her passing and haven’t stopped this far, I listen to them otw to and home from work they are my favorite band and I understand and feel the lyrics on a level I never could when she was here, all I wanna do is connect with her and sing like Layne and I can’t because it’s too late. Rest in peace Samantha I love you and will forever take on the rock name in our family! ✊🏼
As a 56 year old Puerto Rican man from the Bushwick housing projects in Brooklyn Alice In Chains is still One of my favorite bands of all time thanks for the great music especially the great memories that came with it
Never bothered getting into Alice in Chains, and then randomly this song comes up as TH-cam is just playing randomness while I was driving. Totally changed my life. The way that chorus hits, I feel like Layne is echoing the torment that some of us live with and making it into something inimitably beautiful. He feels like a brother on the other side, someone who could understand this feeling that we feel. Love you Layne. Hope you found your peace.
Hoping by now you've given Jar of Flies a listen too. IMO some of their best work. Laynes vocals and jerry blues infused grunge. Truly a sight to behold.
I had this exact same thing happen to me today. While I had heard this song before and I didn't even know what this song was about, but today I was in a bad mood (and have been for some time) and when that chorus hit I just felt like screaming along with it. There's just something so amazingly relatable in it.
is not well known these days but in the early 2000´s and mid 90´s this band was a pillar in the grunge movement with soundgarden, pearl jam and nirvana, its a shame that the only one survivor of the big four is eddie vedder
I work with a few 20 somethings... They know and like Pearl Jam and Nirvana. When asked about Alice they were not entirely sure who they were or what songs they had. I guess this is what I mean by underrated. They are just not held up to the same platform these days as other bands who I think are less than.
It's haunting to see Layne look right into the camera, singing about being trapped in a box in his own sh*t, imploring for someone to come and save him, considering how his own story ended: a recluse in his own condo, trapped in the hell of addiction until he passed. Hope his soul is at peace. He was a legend.
Surrendered himself to the Devil and denied his Maker - Jesus Christ. Same story over and over and over and over........ throughout history, just a different player.
I'm the man in the box Buried in my shit Won't you come and save me? Save me Feed my eyes, can you sew them shut? Jesus Christ, deny your maker He who tries, will be wasted Feed my eyes now you've sewn them shut I'm the dog who gets beat Shove my nose in shit Won't you come and save me Save me Feed my eyes, can you sew them shut? Jesus Christ, deny your maker He who tries, will be wasted Feed my eyes now you've sewn them shut Feed my eyes, can you sew them shut? Coban keeps haunting me ! He said he didn't know the shotgun was loaded ! He went to smoke his weed threw the barrel the trigger just went off ! Like the man in shadow is laughing !
We will never see a time like this again when we were fortunate and privileged to have lived at a time when so many incredibly talented bands let alone vocalist/singers were around making sweet music at one time. For that I am both grateful and sad. They left their marks, made our lives better or more tolerable by sharing their talents with us. RIP to all that came and gifted us...RIP.

RIP Layne you were one of the greatest singers to ever live, I wish you were still here making music and making us smile.
@@SadisticSavage7982: Yes, you're absolutely right. You could hear Layne was a tortured soul purely through his vocals, particularly on _Dirt._ Even if somebody somehow missed the point that songs like _Sickman_ were about heroin addiction, I think the underlying meaning was still conveyed in Layne's twisted vocals. RIP.
It is a bit heartbreaking seeing an interview with Layne’s mom, saying her son did a song called “man in the box”, then pulled out a box of his ashes. She said “well, here he is. He really is now a man in the box”. Been there. Lost to many to this Opiate bullshit. 4 blood relatives gone, 2 friends gone…1 friend of my sister…
@@reginakeogh3776 Layne was already suffering and fighting his demons waay before he even met his ex girlfriend. Her death basically was the final nail in the coffin. She was the only one that could've possibly saved him but her passing accelerated his addiction to an early grave.

Absolutely love AIC. They would play on the music channel on TV every morning while I was getting ready for school. Would get you in a great mindset for the day. One of the best 90s songs ever
Yes, this song had rock diversity- a beat, rawness, wawa guitar, haunting vocals, great lyrics, fantastic traditional guitar riffs, etc. and a synergy where the sum is greater than it's parts. IF someone ever wanted to know what good hard rock is all about- this is the ticket. Should have been one of the items included on the voyager space craft but this group appeared on the scene after the launch of said craft. Lastly- an American band!!!! TRUMP 2024!!!!

Such a great song, great band, and to bad Layne Staley and Mike Star had to leave this world so soon. They were amazing musicians, and I grew up listening to them. Today I still like to take a trip down memory lane. As a disabled veteran who has been through a lot these songs help me relate to things. Thank you, Alice in Chains!
I think the main reason people underrate 90s guitarists is because the 80s was filled with songs and guitarists who had and played killer solos, where the 90s didn’t have as many insane solos as the 80s did
I love how his blank stare and dead eyes is juxtaposed with the raw, pained, powerful vocal performance. I can’t even describe the vibe it gives off, all I can say is that it’s really heavy.
I've always thought they wanted to make it that way, and also that in doing it it proves that Lane was so good he didn't need to change his expression, RIP
We all connected with him and his voice. I can't imagine how his family felt. He was singing for us and to them. We will never forget his music i know i never will.
@SmokingKills WeedDoesnt Of course, absolutely, it's the 2nd Chorus and it has to be as powerful, or a little more than the 1st one, this song structure is the standard for the music industry 💿
+lauren hoffa Oh cool, another LP solider! :D His name is actually Layne, not Payne and he does sing all three songs. He has been the lead singer of Alice In Chains since the beginning until he died in 2002, sadly
+lauren hoffa yeah Laynes vocals can range to different sounds lol. He was the best vocalist ever imo. They only had one singer back then until he died
I first saw this in 1990 and was blown away... music was pretty tired at that time and this was awesome! It still is awesome 34 years later. RIP Layne you are missed.
How the fuck could anyone dislike this song. Literally a masterpiece in song writing, structure, lyrics, and chops on their respective instruments. Soundtrack of my child hood. Much love AIC.

As a 56 year old Puerto Rican man from the Bushwick housing projects in Brooklyn Alice In Chains is still One of my favorite bands of all time thanks for the great music especially the great memories that came with it
Such a heavy riff. Alice In Chains was the most metal of the 90s Seattle grunge outfits.
This song never fails to move me
Cantrell sounds like Hendricks in this song
It sounds like Tone Loc - Wild Thing which in turn borrows from Van Halen - Jamie’s Cryin’.
Great sound👌
Top metal bands of the 90s.
Moving home now not eating anything and the family I can you
Never bothered getting into Alice in Chains, and then randomly this song comes up as TH-cam is just playing randomness while I was driving. Totally changed my life. The way that chorus hits, I feel like Layne is echoing the torment that some of us live with and making it into something inimitably beautiful. He feels like a brother on the other side, someone who could understand this feeling that we feel.

One of the most underrated bands of all time. Simply one of the greatest bands ever.
Keet Madu Not sure how they are underrated. Most would consider them the greatest band ever. There is no debate.
is not well known these days but in the early 2000´s and mid 90´s this band was a pillar in the grunge movement with soundgarden, pearl jam and nirvana, its a shame that the only one survivor of the big four is eddie vedder
they weren't underrated. these guys had 9 grammy nominations
I work with a few 20 somethings... They know and like Pearl Jam and Nirvana. When asked about Alice they were not entirely sure who they were or what songs they had. I guess this is what I mean by underrated. They are just not held up to the same platform these days as other bands who I think are less than.

Your past comes about and will smack you in your face every now and then!❤ but all we can do is acknowledge it and move forward!! I’m 63 and it’s smacked me a few times ❤️🙏😎🤘
@@danielritter-to4re Glad your healing brother ✌️
I love hearing turn-around for the better stories! If you’re comfortable sharing that is. And although I do not know you, I’m really happy and excited for you and your new path of sobriety.
i can help u quit methadone.been there quitting is not easy but its not hard.
@@fishdrillingco.7094I know it will be hard been through it after just a month on methadone. So I know it will be hard, but right now all I know is as long as I’m not sticking a needle in my arm a dozen times a day for the last 10 plus years I doing better. Going on 10 months without the H man, so I’m trying
This legendary tune is 30 years old. Think about that.
Older than me that's nuts. We need another grunge era
I was 14 and never saw this when i went to my friend's house.

@@ImSpeltWrong "Only God made this happen the Grunge era changed my life for the better"
This isn't my usual style of music, but lately I've been obsessed with all the 90s grunge bands.
Grunge fits a variety of 'pandemic moods'. It's like... 'Tis the season
Alyssa P I’ve been stuck listening to grunge, nothing sounds as good.
Alyssa P There were a lot of great bands back in the early to mid 90’s!! Grunge will eventually circle back around.
It’s the best ! Check out sound garden as well
Same actually lol I’ve been feeling it.
3:33 One of the best vocal performances in rock history
What a talented band! Every member is on point in this one, especially Jerry and Layne. Great duo.
