Thanks! That was one of the main things that made me want to make this video, hoik information is scattered and poorly explained. The wiki page is very scant with details and a lot of the guides are years and years old.
Incredible work sorbet ! Seeing all those discoveries and design I've worked on displayed in such an easy to understand manner fills me with so much joy, and it is something I definetly woudn't been able to do. Thanks again for making hoiks accessible to everyone, as they should be.
Damn, even as someone who has been playing this game since the early days, I didn't realize hoiks had this much tech behind em. Seriously impressive work, well done!
Dude is better than my high school physics teacher. He always said "this is a simplified version, better explanation will be given by your university professor", while you said "this is a simplified version, better explanation will be given in 35:51".
This is absolutely something that needed to exist, the old guides never quite clicked for me but so far these explanations make a lot of sense and I already feel like I'd have better luck trying to build anything that is slightly more complicated than a unidirectional hoik.
This is actually really cool. I knew the basics on hoiking, but I learned a lot from the sections on subtile positioning (and how it affects hoiking), hoik collision handling exceptions (hoiks can behave differently depending on player position and hoik configuration), and half-blocks (which, from what I can tell is highly related to subtile positioning). Honestly, this has to be one of the best hoik guides I have ever seen.
Rain world + Terraria is something I didn’t know I needed until now. Amazing vid, I’ve never understood this much and will definitely use some of this in my future playthroughs.
Excellent tutorial! Very comprehensive and very well presented. But there are a few extra things I should mention: 1. By placing platforms with smart cursor you can get stairs, which can let you attack and move through blocks. This is a lot faster than hammering platforms for walls 3 or more tiles high. You can also swap the stairs for solid blocks, making hammerless hoiks. I used this method to perform Ethyriel's coin door desync method in a skyblock world without wood. 2. At 29:33 The "visual headache" can be avoided by building the invincibility machine near the top or bottom of the world, since the camera won't move there.
Funnily enough, they have some diagonal hitboxes on some walls, which interact with the fireball, stalling it in the air if done right. You can then pogo off that fireball for some really niche skips, though none save time in runs
I’ve clocked about 3,200 hours since 2015 in this game. I don’t know why I clicked on this, but this is by far the *best, most comprehensive* guide I’ve _ever_ seen on any game, ever. Very well done, sir!
I don't know how else to explain this, but with no information beside the timbre of your voice and your speech pattern, I could tell you have an incomprehensible amount of Terraria knowledge
Not even an hour and you've explained more on hoiks than I have seen anywhere. This isn't just impressive, this is absolutely incredible (at least, to me, lol) Great guide dude, I am definitely gonna try some of the stuff I've seen here!
I’ve played over 300 hours of terraria and not only did I not know that “hoiks” were a thing, but I didn’t know they had so much useful tech associated with them! I gotta start using these!
I think it would be great if you made a separate video tutorial on how to make the hoik-farm for the rod of discord. It probably the best (or at least the coolest) farm I’ve seen and I think it deserves its own video
Theres just so much you can do in this game. As someone whose boss fighting areas consist of some platforms and a teleporter at best, these elaborate stages and using of the mechanics are so impressive.
absolute 10/10 video. i love the fact that you gave the viewer the option to have base-level, functional knowledge or legitimate fundamental knowledge about why these things occur. the educational methods you use are incredibly well suited for this kind of thing. great work.
it's so cool how this glitch was discovered by the community. Thank you for exposing it to so many more people in such a well thought out and easy to grasp way!!!👍
This is probably the coolest terraria video on a mechanic that I didn't know was so amazing. I'm using this for the dungeon guardian right now. Thank you for being awesome!
29:00 to not have the screen move i think it might work if you put the machine near the top or bottom of the world as you don't scroll the screen until you get in the middle of the screen so you have half a screen to make it work
In theory, you can reduce the screen movement of the invincibility machine by building it either at the top or bottom of the world. The screen lock occurs based on the screen range, so zooming out fully results in the screen locking in a larger range. Not sure if it would reduce it completely but it would reduce it mostly.
@@storm_fling1062 i'm not sure lowered gravity would interfere with hoiks though. And the bottom would be a pain since you'd have to clear out so much lava.

Sweet Jesus this is a big video! I don’t think I’ll be able to apply most of this but it’s still super interesting! I'm sure you're seen some of my comments, and how I'm generally pretty negatively receptive to your videos. that being said, this is a well put together video on a niche mechanic of the game. Hoik is a very interesting and is useful in niche situations, but is generally more of a spectacle which requires more setup than it's worth for the average player. Of course, there's still value to the simpler hoiks, wallclipping being a primary example. overall, solid video
Thanks for the video. Went into my jungle temple before the mechs just to find that on the other side of the temple there was a hole in the side because world generation on the 3ds version does things like that.
There was this one golfing map I remember playing, I think it was Puttraria by Khaios if I recall correctly, and there is an invisible hoik made out of echo blocks / echo coating on the map. Sure, a teleporter would've had the same end goal, but the *way* they got you into the next course using a hoik is thematic for the hole. Being vague so people can get the map for themselves and stumble upon it without many spoilers about it.
Gah! Rainworld spoiler flashbang! (Not really a very bad one but a warning might be nice :p. Really cool video tho, I do quite appreciate the reference!)
