Undercover Boss - Cooke Aquaculture S2 E4 (Canadian TV series)

  • This episode nets an exclusive "behind-the-scenes" look at what it really takes to get fish on our dinner plates. Cooke Aquaculture is the Canadian leader in salmon farming, but they operate within an aggressive global market, and have to maintain production to safeguard jobs in Atlantic Canada. In some communities, they are responsible for one out of every two pay cheques. CEO Glenn Cooke gets a fresh head of hair and a new identity, so he can join his own workers on the frontline. As he struggles through the work week, he causes chaos at his fish processing plant and creates costly delays. All is forgiven, though, when he gets a chance to make good and reveal his true identity at the end of it all. He summons the workers he met to the company's remote retreat, The Big Hole Fishing Lodge. Mom Elvie, who lost her husband after a long illness, is in tears when family man Glenn makes her vacation dream come true, and hatchery technician Jean gets the surprise of her life when he announces plans to reunite her 15 brothers and sisters for a long-awaited get-together.[19]

The more rural the land the cheaper it is but more expensive to build on.
Also small engine plans are not jets, they are much cheaper , it's feasible for somebody who doesn't own a business to achieve this goal.

Nice, but again I didn't notice any type of relief in the working conditions accept for one pallet-lifting device (awesome) being offered. Long, hard hours everyday is s health hazard, and there was nothing mentioned about creating "normal hours!"
Sadly, I'm seeing more and more production facilities where the average shift is 10+ hours long. Due to inflation and hard times, many workers will go for it even though they'll end up losing so much off their paycheques in just the income tax alone !

They take care of pretty much everything on a cruise ship.. only paid for items would be souvenirs while it’s docked at various ports. The tickets had to be a couple thousand dollars each.. this was a gloriously great gift! The chance of him & his wife going without this gift would be slim.. or maxed out credit cards that would take years & years to pay off with interest 😩 A once in lifetime that doesn’t happen to many.. definitely he felt the appreciation!

I think he was very down to earth and sincere. He put a lot of thought in. Money in itself isn't everything it means more that someone took the time to understand the employees and the situation of the company. Remember he doesn't have to do anything he chose to. Business owners think very differently and have a responsibility to make good long term decisions. The staff appreciated what he did for them.

don't forget that this is first and foremost a TV programme.
The TV production company knows exactly what it wants to sell and happy is better than pissed off. What we don't know is how much say the company has in selecting the staff to be featured in the episode. There are other episodes where unhappy staff are shown, there are even episodes where staff get fired as a result of what they said, but I'll bet it is the TV company researchers who have planned who gets to speak and, perhaps, even what they will say...?

I was impressed by the operation. Unlike some of the filthy fish farms out there, this one is in open water that the tides wash twice a day.

I would understand if he not familiar with the accounting of his business but if you don't know how your business being run especially when he and his father started it. Now, that is called spoon feeding.

He’s well off but not super rich he constantly puts his money back into the communities and plants. We used to have free breakfast and lunch buffets at the plant where elvie ( Philipino lady) works. We had family fun days, employee appreciation days , bbqs every Friday etc
On top of the fact he puts millions into each fish plant, hatching facility and boats every year. If not for Glenn and his generosity st.George , blacks harbour and that the whole area would not be thriving at all. He pours so so much into the community
