- This little Bedford van is a very basic early, two tone, Lesney model. It's charm lies in it's small size and it simplistic design. I am really pleased that I took the time to do a makeover on this one. Every time I look at it , it looks better than before. The body colour shouts out 1950's and the familiar looking grill reminds us of the time when Bedford were a leading international supplier of commercial vehicles.

The good news is that milk vans are back in vogue. The public backlash over plastic pollution is creating a surge in demand for the old glass milk bottles, rinse and return and collected back by the milkman. Loved the restoration Marty.
These vids make me notice the suberb craftmanship, not only from Marty, but especially from the original toy designers and modelers. In a pre computer and pre laser cut era they did fantastic things.

It is just so relaxing to watch you restore these lovely Matchbox cars. When I was a kid I mowed lawns and collected about 300 of these cars. My mother gave them away without asking me and I have found that to be most unfortunate. She also gave away a coin collection that today would be most valuable. It is somehow healing to watch you restore replicas of the very cars I used to treasure. Thank you for your work in presenting this channel.

I was going to say. Your pal over at Matchbox Garage uses a tall glass jar to prevent the violent eruption from the caustic soda. He doesn't have any problems when he strips his cars. Beautiful restoration by the way. Your skits with Kevin crack me up.

great work, Marty. Nice to see Kevin back in circulation (as long as he behaves himself), but it's typical he was more interested in drinking the milk than delivering it.
Excellent video. I got one of these back in the 1970s that was near mint and still have it, along with 2-3 other trucks. I had never even known these older models existed.

I love this model. I remember the electric milk floats from long ago but these vans must have been out in the sticks with rural rounds. They remind me of a time where people had time for each other and looked out for each other too. Where if you didn't take your milk in someone would knock to check everything was okay. Hmm... not so much now. Great make over it looks fantastic Marty!

Looks like you need to do that soda stripping in the sink or get a foot long hot dog jar.
Maybe if you had hit the super glue with some baking soda right away the glue wouldn't wicked up the strands.
I was working on my bus conversion and caught myself say " I am happy with that" after cutting and fitting a piece of counter top material.
Well that little milk truck came out looking sweet.

Your channel is becoming so addictive that I made a holder for my phone that sticks to the outside of my shower or bathroom mirror. Now I can watch through the glass from inside the shower or while shaving and getting ready in the morning then rewatch them fully later. PS, some plastic under your towel prevents any moisture from hazardous chemicals making contact with the benchtop.

A lovely restoration Marty. As for your conical brass brush problems, you need a spray on CA glue kicker. Just apply the glue as you had and spay on the kicker to instantly cure it. You're good to go. Give it a try.

Top job Marty, these older models might be simple but they come up like a million bucks after a good resto! Top tip for the super glue on those wire brushes, use the thin stuff and only a few drops in order to avoid the problem you had with it. The best way to apply it would be on the outside right where the wire bristles meet the central hub (in theory at least).

The history behind those older models is just fantastic. Over 50 years old and now it looks as good if not better than new.
Absolutely beautiful. I remember when a stupid school watchdog confiscated my own of these adorable Matchbox Milk vans as I was playing with it in the courtyard. He said to me: "You will get it back at the end of the school year". Of course I never saw it again.
It took me almost fourty years to find again one of them in a Toy show in Paris.
I had my revenge.

I have worked in various dairies since 1985. We use caustic soda in the cleaning process, and it is very volatile (I have a hole in my right foot where some powder got into my welly, I never noticed. It reacted with my sweaty foot, and I had an uncontrollable itch for hours. When I took the welly off at the end of the shift, the caustic had burned clean through). Anyhoo, caustic reacts badly with soft metals, like aluminium. It cleans well, but then starts to dissolve the metal. This is what is happening when the metal turns black. It's great for removing paint, just not so good on the metal car bodies. BTW, great channel. I have now started to restore some of my car collection, inspired by your good self.

There's beauty in simplicity. It's funny you gave this one a makeover. The last movie I streamed had a vehicle that looked exactly like this, but was a slate blue color. I thought it was a vehicle made specifically for the movie. I thought, that's a neat looking delivery vehicle, but it probably wouldn't do very well as a production model. Shows what I know. Ah, one of the reasons I love your channel Marty. Always finding out stuff I never knew.

Another great finish Sir....I think the milk truck I had as a kid in the 60's was a pale green color....but that was a while go....
I'm in the US and always just call it by the brand name Saran Wrap even if it's a different brand. I usually just use a wide strip of masking tape to cover my paint jars. Great vid as always.

Marty the super glue on the rotary wire brush does work but you only apply the glue to the base of the bristles and the base. You demonstrated how not to do it lol .. anyway as always .. fabulous job as always !
