Kitana's weird tatsu thing in MK9 is the ultimate definition of a filler move. I can't think of any other move that serves zero purpose on an already strong character.
It was a contender, but kitana in MK9 isn't a top tier enough character for it to make the list IMO

@@watersheep5535 yeah but this is top 5-ish upwards. Kitana is a bit of a case in which she's found closer to the lower end of top 10 i think

It’s the same problem with Jacquie’s counter throw KB in MK 11, it requires you to guess correctly from a throw and spend resources on a little bit of damage instead of a full combo or pressure. The only thing good about this is that there’s a brutality tied to it and since KB aren’t in MK 1, you’re free to randomly guess; if it also nerfs the opponent’s left or right punches based on what kind of throw you escaped correctly (1 for back throw and 2 for forward throw) on top of disabling throws for a brief period then we might see some usage.

I said I’m awful at fighting games, not that I’ve never played them. 😅 Eternal Champions was my first fighting game, followed closely by Mortal Kombat II & Virtua Fighter 3(?). I’ve just always been very bad at them & like seeing how technical they get. Thank you for the advice though!
Oh, yeah, well, I meant, games to get better at, that translate well to fighters.

I don't play MK nowadays, but I always liked the series and I love learning about competitive strats, so I always come here due to how informative the videos are
NRS's idea of "balance" has always been, "If we give this character one bad move after all their good moves, they won't be so strong! And if we give this bad character one good move, they'll be better!"

It took me forever to realize the raiden's razzle dazzle (amazing name btw) gives you meater when you use it even if it doesn't connect. I probably would have realize this sooner had i remembered that this move exists

Makes sense why no MK11 character showed up here. After customs came out (and even before that) every character in the game had a few moves that were terrible, so all of the top tier characters did by default.
Could we get a "Comp History Catchup" where its just a quick rundown (probably split into parts) of any new characters appearances that have already been covered in the comp history of series? Like an episode covering a handful of characters covered already but are now in a new title? Could probably start it a bit after Takeda drops, honestly. Thats when I would do it, but it would be a fun series to make quick episodes covering a handful of returning fighters :D

The Johnny Cage one was I found the most entertaining, because it's something that realistically comes out on accident and leaves you in a worse position whether it hits or not. If it weren't for Drahmin having entire stances that were useless (basically cutting off 2/3 of his move set), I'd say that it's definitely the worst one because it actually has game play implications outside of "Oh, just ignore it."

@PNDK&M I don't know what it is but I have to watch your videos. I haven't seriously played MK since MK Trilogy, I have the recent NRS games but just don't care about them honestly but I really enjoy your videos.
Another point against razzle dazzle is that even tho the EX version is a combo finisher, it sends the opponent full screen away in the opposite direction (usually center-stage). Why do that when you can end the same combo with Electric Fly which doesn’t use up meter and carries to the corner with ease

I’ve actually had a Raiden player use the razzle dazzle against me, let’s just say I wasn’t concerned about it 😂
I'd love a video where you look at characters with *almost* complete kits. Characters who aren't even near top-tier, but would be Top-Tier, or even broken if something was added. Something that feels like it should have been there from the beginning.
Opposite to this, characters who were good, but for reasons that don't really fit the theme of their character.
Now I understand why you would think Raidens move isn’t good but it does have its uses like the meter burn to switch sides bc the teleport costs two bars but the normal one I think people should use to be plus on hit like if your low on health and you can’t afford your opponent to wake up you see moves hit but instead of going into a combo you do the move and apply more pressure
I actually use tremor with raiden. They are a pretty fun team.

Also you can use it as a decent combo ender to add more damage to a large combo using his df2 special as it scales.
Though tbh I rarely use it outside of accidents as you sacrifice the corner for using it.
You just gave me some inkling to play tremor as I am a raiden main in this game. Though tbh I dont like MK1. Mainly just use jax.
Raiden’s Razzle Dazzle for me would be way better if it had a brutality tied to it, i mean it’s the perfect move to have a brutal, especially if you factor in the amplified version! Unfortunate there are so little brutals in comparison to 11

Haven’t watched the vid yet so not sure if it’s in here, but the glasses throw for Johnny in MK1 is literally so bad that you can just get rid of it with his no glasses appearance
If i had to pick one it would be Erron Black Gunslinger Sand Bottle Roll
A low hitting projectile that can be enhanced to launch, its too slow to use in neutral and it replaces the Pocket Sand in that variation which offered so much more. At least thats how i remembered it being

For Kabal's move in UMK3. The CPU opponent just immediately rushes to attack you every time you use that ability as it completely cancels it

That Drahmin is a crazy flex. "2/3 of his moves are useless, and he's still top tier."
I actually found some purpose for razzle dazzle in the corner with Raiden
One move I think fits here would be Joker’s Puppet Cancel move in MK11. Joker is often considered a very strong character in 11, but this move is genuinely a complete waste of a variation slot, because all it does it let you cancel your standard projectile without firing it off. The problem is, the cancel is too slow to function as any sort of mixup or pressure tool, so all you’re left with a lot of endlag on an already mediocre projectile with no damage reward. After the release of custom variations in competitive in 11, I genuinely did not see a single Joker player use that move ever.

I didn’t even know Drahmin’s hand to hand stances were so incredibly awful, I see now why I only ever see that weapon stance
His Armageddon stance is better than the DA ones, but Iron Club and the special moves were always what made Drahmin strong
I would still argue that most useless move in any recent MK is kabals df2 special when he spins with high move. Played kabal for 4 years and was able to find 0 usecases for that move.
I know he's not top tier, but Scorpion leg take down in MK2, always comes to mind as the most useless move in that game.
When you see the leaked source code for MK2 and see what moves they did take out but still had that move strangely left in. It just bizarre that they thought that would be useful to use.
They really should of kept Reptiles air spit instead.

It's purely subjective, but I wonder what people consider to be the coolest looking kombos in the series?
Tbh what confuses me is Johnny's dash in MK1, like what does it do? Last I played, dashing after a blockstring doesn't do anything because you're still unsafe. Idek if you can go through projectiles with it. You can extend the dash, but that'd take out of the range of your buttons and leave at disadvantage, and you could still get hit out of it.
When you're in hype install, nutpunch cancelled into dash is a meterless stun that restands iirc
EX dash is projectile immune.

I feel that is better game design to have a really powerful character that lacks a vital tool that an awful character that has 1 tool that makes it viable

MK9 Johnny Cage isn’t in the Top 5??? This is news to me, I always saw him ranked in the 4th or 5th spot usually.
It’s *arguable* but there’s a few characters who could be in the # 5 spot. Top 4 are pretty set in stone with Kabal, Kenshi, Cyrax, and Sonya. The fifth could be anyone from Johnny, Lao, Freddy Krueger, or Smoke.

Raiden's db2 in mk1 is comically useless is there anybody here that actually uses this move? Like what's the point? Even with the tremor tech ketchup showed here there's no reason to ever use it you can still get 40% 1 bar with jax
I just commented about it. You use it as a side switch. So say you are in the corner, get a hit confirm and go into the usual loop combo df2, gotcha etc, you end in the db2 to put them in the corner.
Very situational and I rarely use it unless by accident.
Its got a nice animation to it though.
Imo it should be plus on block, if it was just plus enough to only be able to be poked not punished, it would be useful to keep block pressure. Though then it might be a bit too useful in making unsafe moves safe.
I think that will definitely be buffed in the future
