    As a pro contractor I went trough every possible sprayer including Wagner earlex titan handheld hvlp similar to Wagner , however I realized that as many stages the unit has is better , anything pass 3 stages is considered professional sprayer , I ended up with expensive 2000$ graco 9.5 hvlp unit with 5 stage turbine and boy that’s big difference and I never regretted and the unit paid itself , i agree with you it’s all about what are you using for , if you can’t justify the 2000$ mark then the cheaper options are ok to deal with you just need to thin the paint a bit more and adjust the air and paint volume accordingly, another mid priced solution is airless sprayers with fine finish low pressure tips but that’s different sprayer , thanks for the videos

    Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in as well I bought a Campbell Housefeild HVLP rig over 10 or 11 years ago and ive sprayed. Just about everything through it over the years including a Dupont 2 stage auto mobile paint and many gallons of interior latex and oil based paints plus a lot of water based Kilz primer and a catalyaed conversion varnish when looking at any of the other brands that are available today i did not really. See any good reasons to replace my old unit as it still works Like it did when i bought it i want to add that. I am a retired Woodworker by trade and most of my projects were finishing solid wood builds i built mostly for myself a family the car was a vintage car i owned for many years and i had always wanted to spray a car sine i was a teenager and the time was correct to do that car when i did most people i asked. Advised me not to use the HVLP but in only a few test patterns and adjustments I went ahead and payed down the paint on the car no drips , orange peel , or any major imperfections after i. Completed the car i spoke with my Dad by phone who lived hundreds of miles away in another state and was also a car enthusiast and collector and his question was how did it come out my response was way better than a typical home job but could be better with more practice overall. I thought it came out looking professionally. Done and i was happy with the results When i did ask around. Years ago and was advised not tp use the system on the car the weird thing was not one person saying that could give me a reason why they felt that way. Or why it wouldn’t work well and some of my wood finishes i applied came out so well i couldnt figure out why the auto paint. Would not I think the only issue i could say was negative I that. The hose on the rig could have been more flexible to move around t more freely and faster i needed another guy helping me moving the pump around the car as i changed sides BTW the car is a small 2 seater roadster

      That’s great! You’ve definitely put a lot of mileage on your unit. I didn’t know that HVLP wasn’t recommended for cars, I thought that’s what auto body shops used. Thanks for sharing your experience!

    Nice video! Great information. Quick question - when you say the HomeRight is ok for clear coat, does that include polyurethane? I’m wondering if I can do oil based without thinning. - trying to reduce the number of coats I’d have to do. Thanks!

      That's a good question. I'm not comfortable answering though because I haven't used their topside paint and it's been years since I've had the 6003. There's a fair chance it could handle it, especially if you can thin it.

    I'm trying to decide between the 5500 and the 6003. I have a very unorganized and tiny wood shop so being able to store everything wrapped up would be awesome. But the 3rd stage in the 6003 would also be great to have. I have a bunch of decking and railing my wife wants me to spray with latex paint. I'm also a woodworker so I'm kinda using this as an excuse to get a spray system lol. Which one would you recommend. I'm not going to be using this gun for latex paint very often after this house project. Any additional advice would be helpful, thanks.

    • @YouCanMakeThisToo
      @YouCanMakeThisToo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have the money and want to get into spraying and a system you won’t outgrow super fast... get the 6003. If the bug bites you, you’ll be wanting to upgrade the 5500 pretty fast. Plus there’s some fit and finish with the 6003 that’s well worth it. The longer hose, threaded and quick releases, more comfortable gun..

    • @OGStr8UpJack
      @OGStr8UpJack 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Something else to consider ( I own the 5500 ) is the 5500 is a bleeder.., that means the air is always coming through the gun and if you are not setting up a dedicated spray area, you will be blasting air all the time and this mean you better clean your shop of all dust. I am now looking to upgrade ( I am getting into spraying cabinet paints now ) and I am definitely looking at the 6003 and the FUJI sprayers as replacement.. they have more power but they also feature non bleeder guns which means air only shoots when you pull the trigger.

    A bit confusing at first. In the closeup discussion the panel is reversed to the spraying orientation.
    1, 2, and 3 became 3, 2 and 1.
    We’re only seeing from your camera viewpoint so try and keep everything the same.
    My brain was scrambling to remember which was which as you explained the details.
    Otherwise a great video. Explained each one very well.

    Would you recommend the earlex over a traditional hvlp gun and compressor?

    • @YouCanMakeThisToo
      @YouCanMakeThisToo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you already have a good compressor set up that can handle the load and water/oil traps.. then a compressor driven gun is less expensive to get in to. Turbines tend to deliver more consistent and "cleaner" air though. If you don't already have a huge compressor, just go turbine.

  • @MrJohnnyboyrebel

    Huh? Pulling the trigger back allows more fluid to come out, not more air. The airflow is pretty constant. At least that’s how my Graco HVLP works.

    • @YouCanMakeThisToo
      @YouCanMakeThisToo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From looking at how mine are made, the amount of air coming out the front is the same. Pulling the trigger changes how much air is allowed to go into the pressure pot, increased pressure in the pot means fluid is pushed out faster. So ultimately you are increasing the fluid release, but by directly controlling the air flow.

      @@YouCanMakeThisToo I have 25 years in the automotive paint industry and I can guarantee you the adjustment knob on the back of the gun is for volume control, not air. Air is controlled by a regulator. Also it's an air cap, not a cover piece.
