    I’ve had this paint sprayer for about 4 years and never used it. I am the amateur that has a project going constantly to satisfy my creative urges. After your video I finally unboxed it to spray the finish on a coffee table. I followed your suggestions for practice and thinning . What a game changer! The process was so fast and so much more professional. The cleanup was certainly not worse than buckets and brushes. Thank you.

    I have this paint sprayer and did my entire kitchen cabinets with it a couple years ago. I saved a boat load of money doing it myself and the results are professional. I’m here b/c I am recommending this sprayer to my brother and he is using a thicker paint, and we were curious if it could do it without being thinned. You answered all of the questions we were wondering without worrying about testing it through my own sprayer - so thank you for taking one for the team - lol!

    Thank you, I'm like #900! I'm a retired electrician / carpenter, and I hate painting. I'm renovating my home myself and I'm at the point where 14 doors and all the trim are ready for paint. I want a better than brushed finish so I thought I'd try a budget friendly sprayer and chose this one based on reviews. I have almost zero experience but after watching your review / tutorial, I'm ready to practice a bit, start masking then nervously dive in. Great review, especially the thinning and the camera angles showing the gloss and texture, thank you!

    Well done and love the variables you applied to the operation. I have the homeright and have had issues with spatter. In the end, I think my use of the green nozzle, larger than the blue nozzle, with too high a paint flow may have been the cause. I have recently purchased a Worx battery powered sprayer and have had the same problems. I will apply your techniques to that sprayer. The Worx sprayer appears to be built by Wagner since they share many construction details.

    A well done and interesting video. Thank you for producing it. Not sure I would have used paper to do my tests. Water-product and paper don't play well together. I think cardboard might be better, 1/4" MDF even more so. Still, lots of information here and very helpful. You managed to capture the wet and dry sheens, which is not easy to do but very important to see. Nice work!

    I have this paint sprayer and the biggest problem with it is the cleaning process. I just ordered another paint bottle for it which I use to keep water in. When I’m finished painting, I just installed the extra paint bottle with water and spray it until the spray is clear. I can’t even store the paint I just used in one of the bottles. This process works for me!

    This is so informative, I have been thinking of getting this sprayer, maybe today cause I have already sand my kitchen cabinet and I have sort of decided on SW paint. I would love to paint with chalk paint cause I love chalk paint its easier to paint. But I see you use Bear and you add some powder I know what it is but its not coming to my head. So why did you do that? Just to thin it out. Would you recommend enamel with the sprayer?

  • @robertbuck7186
    @robertbuck7186 ปีที่แล้ว

    ( gun tip, paint viscosity and flow ration) thanks for the refresher on the homeright...I was sreaching for what tip size I might use for my next project...and picked up from yout clip that you used 4mm tip for the emerald.
    The chalk paint I have done before with my hometight and came up with a water mix ratio that made the viscosity look like the emerald or a little thicker... I forgot what tip but I did have to choose one.. I also ordered more tips of different sizes that dont come in the box with the homeright.. they are differnt millameter sizes... so they have or had different tips out there so you can tweak your paing mix, tip and flow ratio.. which from what I pick up from most videos is what its all about... plus a strainer... that is very important to mention...
    I am currently spraying or trying to spray dynasty paint.. I may have to thin with water...
    these sprayer guns are amazing... and cost efficient and save time as well.

    I recently bought this sprayer but haven't used it yet. I bought a beautiful solid wood bed head and footboard on marketplace for real cheap and I'm planning to use modern masters warm silver on it after I prep and add some appliques. I'm wanting to give a try spraying this paint after thinning and have heard success stories with it even though Modern Masters doesn't recommend it. So I'm sure this will be an interesting endeavor. Im prepared to mini roll and brush the paint if spraying doesn't work out but this should fun anyway. I'm just starting out with furniture upcycling and as always I go for the hardest thing first. Lol I learned to make bread from scratch by milling my own grains and yea that was the hardest thing to but I mastered it. So I'm going to work harder in the beginning then the easy painting will be just that, Easy. 😂

    I have this same sprayer but I've never been able to get it dialed in like you have here. I think thinning the material is key. I just sprayed a paint/primer combo on bare wood furniture I built and it went on OK but was definitely not at smooth and had some spitting. So now I have to sand w/ 220 and add a second coat which I was planning on doing anyway. I'll try thinning the second coat after seeing this video. Hopefully I can get it tuned.

    Nice review. A couple of things you might be able to help me with. I haven’t quite mastered the sprayer just yet after two projects:
    1. Sprayed white poly which was quite thin already but I added 10% water - I was spraying cabinets and used the blue tip (1.5mm) and got air bubbles in the finish no matter how much I adjusted the flow. The less flow the less air bubbles. I suspect the bubbles were in the paint and were getting through into the spray
    2. Sprayed white primer on a wall which I watered down 15% and used the green tip (2mm) and got splatter and left a bit of texture in the finish (regardless of flow adjustments). I switched to the red tip (4mm) with the yellow head given the primer was a bit thicker and the finish was much smoother but blew through the paint much faster with the wider spray pattern.
    I am preparing to spray a board and batten feature wall in my house and really want to get that fine finish you got on your drawer. I believe my main issue is matching the viscosity of paint to the spray tip and head. Any thoughts/suggestions on this? Note I do not have a viscosity cup but sounds like I could use one ?

    • @MikeValletti
      @MikeValletti ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is the cup is a must have from what I've read, elminating issues for others. I picked one up but haven't used it yet (or the sprayer besides water). I assume you had the black cover on for finer spray?

    Forgive me for skipping straight to the punch, unfortunately my husband started ripping apart our cabinets out of nowhere... here I find myself without much time to research sprayers. As someone who has never done cabinets, used a paint sprayer, or chaulk paint.. I find myself in a situation with all 3 of those factors in this scenario. I've decided to use Heirloom Traditions All in one paint for this entire project. What would be your top 2 picks of sprayers to choose for purchase? I'm looking to keep the price under $200, we also have a compressor (not sure if that would provide additional potentional sprayer options or not, just throwing that info out there.) I have a large kitchen and am looking at tackling around 40 cabinets along with 10 interior doors. I would LOVE you're recommendation as I find myself overwhelped with options, no experience, and short on time. Thanks in advance for any rescue tips!!!

  • @kay_ana

    Had this sprayer for a couple months, but just recently used it for the first time and I wish I had seen this review before I bought the stupid cleaning kit. I agree it made things harder, not easier. My shop sink did not have the nozzle type it could connect to (I have a spray nozzle only, not threaded) so I could only use it on the outside faucet which was amazingly inconvenient. I found it much simpler to just buy an extra paint cup/lid to use for cleaning so I don't have to dump my paint between coats when I want to clean it between coats. I also found cleaning the section where the cup screws in to be annoying, but I've mitigated that by always wiping the lip of the cup before attaching it. I did struggle with testing the spray on cardboard/paper, what seemed great on that kept looking too thick on paint, but after seeing you use the lower tip and water down the polycrylic, I may try that next time. tl;dr: even for someone who has used this sprayer, you had some awesome thoughts and tips I will definitely try out the next time!

    • @msk3905
      @msk3905 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably too late for you but cleaning the area everyone is complaining about is easy especially if outside, I use my garden nozzles set to side spray (sprays like this sprayer in a line) and blast it off. A few seconds later it’s clean 🤔, if in the sink I simply tilt sprayer on its size and run water over it followed by either a blast with compressed air (if you have) or a wipe with a rag, comes clean every time?

      @ARayofSunlight  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      BIN primer should not be used with these HVLP paint sprayers as it has a low flash point that can combust with the motor right there. Also, it is very thin on its own and would not need thinned to spray it. Hope that helps!

    How much water did you add to the emerald urethane trim paint to get the best results? Do you think thinning it to get a flow rate of 40 seconds using the viscosity cup would work well with the emerald? Have you tried thinning with floetrol instead of water? I have a homeright sprayer and plan to buy the same paint for some cabinets.

      I have the same question. Curious what you ended up doing. Did you use floetrol or water and what percentage did you dilute.

      @@dixiwimmer9839 as I recall, I used Floetrol. Just a little, to get a flow rate of around 40 sec. Turned out well on kitchen cabinets.

    As you knew you required 15% water could you have mixed the Calcium Carbonate with the required 15% water instead of a little bit of water to ensure a better mix in to the paint straight from the start ??......... Also how much Calcium Carbonate to 1ltr of paint would you recommend ??.......

    I give this sprayer a B-
    Unfortunately it leaves a TON of overspray. What happens is the pain in the tip starts to dry after just a few minutes and causes lots of overspray.. I had to touch up my ceiling in so many places Even though I had 12" paper around the edges.

    Did you try to spray zinsser primer shallec? Did it work?

    • @ARayofSunlight
      @ARayofSunlight  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did. In my Fuji sprayer. It worked well, but I hated the smell of the amonia to clean it. 😳 that stuff is STRONG!
      Shellac primer is too flammable to safely spray in these sprayers that have the motor right there.

    What % of water do you add to your sprayer when spraying paint and polyurethane? Ty

    • @ARayofSunlight
      @ARayofSunlight  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably 15% water to thin paint and I don’t measure as much, but I like to fill up my 8 ounce mini container with about 3/4 polyurethane and then put water in the last 1/4 of the container.

    Thanks for the demo with this sprayer, you make it look so easy. I just ordered one. The only question I have is , when you show the dresser top it looks like the orange peel effect in the paint, is it just the lighting and I am seeing it wrong or is it actually a fine finish?

      You can put oil based products in it. It’s not recommended to put shellac in it though - because it’s flash point is so low.
