Well, I have watch a large amount of Motorcycles reviews. And I do mean many many. But Matt is clearly the best Motorcycles reviewer I have come across. I am in sales myself and he's obviously well trained, learned his lessons well and most of all is applying them well. Great Job Matt. Keep up the very good work!
Mike and Team, thanks always for your reviews, helped me few years ago with getting my first low rider, and now graduated to a 2016 Road Glide. The 103 is still plenty of power for me and super well cared for! This review of 2017 helped a lot! You all keep taking great care out there! P.S. my 2016 has turn signals on the baggers, so when remove touring, no problem!
Hello Matt, I live in Northeast Louisiana. I just picked up a 2017 Road Glide Ultra from someone near Houston. I absolutely love this bike! It is just like the one that you showcase in this video. Thank you for all the information and I look forward to many years of riding it.
As a guy whose not rode on a two wheeler street bike in over 10 years has me scratching my head as to why I am subscribed to this channel... I guess its Matt Laidlaw's calm assuring voice that has me coming back for more. I would say more but I hate it when I get mocked or hated on over so very little these days. Yes, I'm an old fart.
My first Harley was a 2001 RoadGlide. Traded it for a 2015 Ultra Limited. I'm only 5'9" and I'm cramped on the Ultra. I appreciate the heated grips (even in Indio, CA) and extra DayMaker lighting but for me there is much better storage, wind deflection and room on the RoadGlide. The batwing mounted on the forks is too close and awkward how it swings with the handlebars. The ride is more lux and regal with the RoadGlide. It's just my opinion and many will feel the opposite and that's good because Harley makes a model that's perfect for everyone. To each their own. Another fantastic review Matt. Thanks again.
I know I'm late to the party on this video but I traded my 2017 Road King in for a 2017 Road Glide Ultra, my second FLTRU, my first was a 2013 model. My wife took a trip with me from Seattle WA to Spokane WA on the Road King and said that I needed to get another Road Glide as she wanted to ride the throne (the passenger couch pillow)! I'm actually glad I found this review, I learned a little more about my own bike during this demonstration! I had considered holding out for the 2018 model year but I just loved the Silver and Black two tone and I got a great deal on this bike from my friends over at Northwest Harley-Davidson in Lacey WA (giving them a free plug for WA folks)! Over all, it's probably the best motorcycle I've ever owned as far as comfort and handling, all in one bike. It corners amazingly and I'm fine with the 107" motor. Thanks for the review, sorry I chimed in so late! Just wanted to thank you for going over the bike so thoroughly! As always, I enjoy your dedication and effort you put into your Vlogs and just know that they are important and valuable to probably everyone that owns a Harley!
I bought a 2018 Road Glide Ultra. I bought it for touring, as I prefer the look of a street Harley. But comfort is king, so I went with the Road Glide. It is indeed a very comfortable and surprisingly good handling bike. The bike will rocket to and cruise at 90 to 100 effortlessly. Rides like a Cadillac. The one improvement would be to trade the irritating joysticks for smooth buttons (including the cruise control). Good power, but I still wish it had even more. Overall, very happy.
I just bought a 2017 model, and I cant wait to ride it. My first long trip will from Northern Europe to the Canary islands. Wauv what a bike. My breakout is for the small trip around the country. Thanks for a great video.
Thanks Matt. I did a test drive at Harley Davidson Benelux last Sunday. He is exactly the way you describe him. I love this motorcycle! In the Netherlands, this Road Glide Ultra costs 35000 euros. That's very expensive, so unfortunately I'll have to do it with my Electra Glide Standard from 2001
I bought the 17 RG Ultra and love it, I have 12000 miles so far and no problems. I'm like you though I would like to have the bars a little further forward and I'm six ft. Not so bad that I want to spring a bunch of money to fix but I would love to lean forward sometimes.
I've appreciated all your reviews; they've been most helpful for me in making my purchase decision. I bought this bike, black quartz, yesterday. I absolutely love it! For me it's the perfect fit. I'll be spending much of today getting familiar with it. Thank you.
i've purchase items from your parts department via the phone, excellent service-! fantastic job at video production, you were speaking calmly and informatively. not yelling and very relaxed-
Here's your Minnesota boy telling you that you don't need heated handgrips. I was riding on Monday in the freezing rain and snow. 28 degrees. No heated handgrips here.
Matt Laidlaw EXCELLENT REVIEW and very informative!!! Can you comment on the difference in protection from rain on Road Glide Ultra and the Ultra Limited?
You do a nice job on your reviews. Purchasing a Harley can be quite a confusing task with all the variations in models and within a model as well. Add into that differences between a 2015,16 &17 and it can be downright insane! Anyone looking for clarity should seek your reviews.
Thanks Matt for your review! Going to retire this year and will be buying this bike this fall. Going with the detachable tourpak for riding local. Figure I will have best of both worlds. As always, your the best reviewer. Let us know if you ever come to New Hampshire, would love to take you out for lunch. Take Care
Excellent review, Matt. I was debating between the Ultra and the Road Glide for my new ride and ended up with the Ultra Limited. What did it for me are the heated grips, lower bars and more comfortable ergonomics (for me), and the bat wing with the passing lights. I gave the nod to the Ultra but it was very close and I'm sure I would be just as over the moon with the Glide too. Thanks again for your most expert and excellent review!
Great review Matt! I myself love the handlebars on this bike I am only 5' 8" and they fit me great. That's the thing about Harleys you always have to make them fit you. I had a 08 Ultra and had to change the bars, shock and, seat just for it to fit me. My present bike is a 13 Road Glide Custom that I changed the bars and seat and it fits me like a glove. My point is it's hard to make them fit everyone. I also wondered why the Ultra Road Glide and the Special Road Glide have different bars? Thanks again and Ride Safe!
A few weeks ago, I went to the local dealer to test ride the RK and the SGS. Afterwards, they asked me to test ride the RGS (even though I said that I wasn't fond of the looks of it) b/c the bike I currently ride has a fixed fairing. My friends have told me that the RG's are very comfortable but they'd never buy one. Well, I came back from the ride and was totally baffled b/c the ride was so nice and I didn't expect to like it that much more than the SGS. The handling was so nimble. If I were to buy a new Harley, I think the RGS or RGU is probably what I would get.
Great review as always. Good tip on the "i" button. Mine's a 17 RGS so really interested on how the Ultra compared (haven't seen one in NZ yet). I've done the stage 1 which I was a bit disappointed in compared to the stage 1 on my previous 15. When you look at the SE brochure and comparison hp/torque for the twin cams before and after vs MW8 before and after it looks like a better bang for buck on the HO twin cams. I definitely noticed the difference after my 15 upgrade, especially at lower revs. Not so much on the MW8. Seems to need a few more revs to make the difference.
I was just in Laidlaws a couple of days ago. I had the pleasure of speaking with Bob. Very nice man. I've spoken to Bob before on other visits. I have a Goldwing now and was on the fence in 2009 between the Goldwing and the Harley. A different sale manager would've yielded a different outcome. Salesman was great! Anyway - I ride with more than a few Harley owners. The one big/huge bitch they have, IS MAINTENANCE COST. A couple have purchased Indians in large part, because of maintenance cost. Darn Harley's have really come out with nice power and dependability. They've always had the look! But when I speak to my buddies about buying one - there's often the mention of cost. Not that the Goldwing is a VW maintenance machine. It's high labor, but rarely needs repairs. I'm still thinking. Damn good looking machines! Ever since the 103's, they have plenty of power now too! I wonder if they are any cooler at a long stop light on a hot day, LIKE ALL THIS WEEK!!
+twoweeled soto Thanks for stopping by and the kind words. The Milwaukee 8 definitely reduces the heat a lot. Test ride one. September 8-9 at our shop.
Another awesome review. While it would be nice to see your 6'5 stature on a 48 I would love to see u do a comprehensive review across the whole Sportster line or at least the 1200 models. A comparison of sorts like you did with the Fat Boy. All I found was a really old walk around u did of a XL12000 CB! Thanks again man!
This is my bike exactly, even same color. But what I don't understand is, as you stated, this is a top of the line model with all the bells and whistles, why doesn't it come with the inner fairing painted like the Specials do? I know, I know, after market!
I appreciate the quality and useful information that you cover in your reviews. I have been on the fence about getting a Harley Davidson again after a bad experience with a used 2007 but I have always loved the Road Glide model line. My biggest gripe is the size of the floor boards and the small rider triangle. I suppose there is a difference seat and floorboards and maybe a longer heel toe shifter to make room for my size 12's. I have a Indian Roadmaster currently and love the bike but engine heat and a few other minor complaints have me looking again at HD. With the new 107, I am thinking it may be the better choice.
Best reviews going. I have a 15 Limited - agree on the gps being marginal. It will get you there but not without a fair amount of aggravation. And there are no map updates for it, only firmware updates. I'd rather clamp a Garmin to the handlebar. How much stiffer of a ride is it with the low profile RGS tires as opposed to the taller side walls of the touring bikes?
Matt i bought the Road Glide fltru 2016. Is the bike i bought a ultra limited. What's the difference on the newer year models other than the Milwaukee 8
Varun Govind I'm waiting on that review as well ahahahaha love the bike but there really aren't any good reviews on TH-cam like Matt would do ...seriously though
I fell in love with an ultra low classic back in 2012 or 13. After that I moved to love the Road Glide Ultra. I want to buy a brand new one but I just saw Yamaha is making a mean 2018 looking Star Venture. Im stuck in the middle, have you seen into the bike and does it catch your interest? I wanna know your thoughts since youve ridden the road glide ultra.
E. Simons they aren't considered a mini ape hanger. I guess they have a very similar shape. The angle isn't straight up though. There is a pin that keeps the angle static. Some people break the pin and rotate the bars in the raiser though.
Matt, great review! I have a 17 RGU and I love it. Had a batwing for 9 years and recently made the switch. Quick question, does Harley have a lot less of theese in inventory? It seems that for every 19 Electra glides I might see one RGU. This is the case, both on the street and at my local HD dealerships
BigPappaMurf That's just due to demand and customer purchasing patterns. The RGU is less popular at my dealership so I order a lot less of them. I'm guessing that consistent with most dealers.
Hey matt...just picked up a '17 roadglide ultra, my question is once my phone is paired with the bike, and then I add or make changes to my phone contact list, will the bike automatically make the changes in the bikes system or do I have to do something to update the changes in the bike?...thanks for the info.
How do you fit on a street glide being 6’6 I mean I’m 6’3 and sat on a street glide and it felt tight even with the tall boy seat on it what mods did you do thanks
Matt Laidlaw I really would appreciate it...the reason I'm asking you is because all other reviews on here aren't as good ...and I do appreciate how you go about your reviews... best on TH-cam brother
Wind Deflection is good but this all depends on your height. I prefer to look over the windshield and not through it as well - which is how the stock windshield is for me. I feel that the FLHTK is very comparable to the FLTRU. However I think the FLTRU is better for keeping side wind off you because it does have a wider/bigger molding to it.
Sorry, to be clear - I was asking about wind on the pillion. Wondering if the flow goes around the passenger any differently between the two fairing types. Passenger comfort is a key factor for me deciding between RGU and Ultra Limited.
Great video Matt,.. If ya can, what helmet(make style) is that in the video? Thanks again. Watched a lot of your videos and they are always spot on! Thanks
Really enjoy your videos and content. I was told by a dealer here in northern California that Harley is not releasing a 2018 Low Rider S. Have you heard anything about this?
That GPS problem is with every type of GPS, I've ever used. I drive for a living and use a GPS everyday. All GPS systems will get confused in certain areas and they haven't been able to fix it. However this is a blessing in disguise because, it's slowing the progress of self-driving cars. I'm sure they'll try to get rid of motorcycles altogether. Once they push self-driving cars on us. Don't doubt me on this. It's coming sooner or later.
Thorson Runes I use ware on my phone. It works well since there is a lot of user input for wrecks, police, closed roads, etc. some days it takes me crazy ways to work but I always make it with in a 5 minute window of what it says.
I was wondering if someone would give me crap for that. Yes, I own a chevy volt. So embarrassing. I drive 120 + miles a day. It's a necessary vehicle for me.
Matt Laidlaw - no crap at all. I knew a bike was your main transport from your videos, and figured you would have a truck or something otherwise. The volt probably gets you HOV access anyway.
Very good info. A lot better when you're not doing satire. What is the midel number of yourr helmet? That is cool. I think I might like to get me one like it.
So tired of the Road glide reviews..every body in California..has a review of this bike...did harley stop making the other models...scheeze...give it up people..we need other reviews of other bike too....wtf .I have a Ultra Classic..it is a good bike too. Matt..am not picking on you..you are always great on your video 's..am picking on the other 999 million..lol..who are wanta. Be's...
Although my 1998 Road Glide wasn't originally configured as a "Road Glide Ultra" (wasnt until 2009) the original owner turned my bike turned into one. I personally don't like it with the 60lb added up high weight and only use it for touring purposes in this configuration and remove the King Tour pack afterwards. th-cam.com/video/ydIkTp8v5Jw/w-d-xo.html
The Rushmore project should have been doing in the late 90s Harley is ridiculous for waiting till 2014 The Goldwing has everything the rushmore project was back like 20 years ago I dont know why they wait so long to do smart redesigns A rushmore bike is what the metrics did almost 20 years ago
Those radiators made me look away from purchasing. They look like an aftermarket part. The designers need to be upgraded or Harley Davidson will disappear.
Why should they redesign for somebody as tall as you? Only those who play for the NBA are that tall. The rest of the world are of normal height 6'2 or lower. You should find a seat or bars for your abnormally tall butt. With that said ,I still like your videos ,so keep making them.
duane howard I agree with your comment man. I don't expect them to make bikes that fit me. In fact I really hope they don't start making bikes to fit me.
I have the 2017 SGS ,I wanted the RGS but am 5'8 and found it to be difficult to reach the infotainment system .I do understand where your coming from .I had a 2010 roadking classic ,and notice the street glide was a bit closer to the tank. In my case I've gotten use to it .You being so tall the limited will give you issues . Can't you change the seat to help out?
Well, I have watch a large amount of Motorcycles reviews. And I do mean many many. But Matt is clearly the best Motorcycles reviewer I have come across. Thank you sir. I appreciate the good word.
Agreed
A trick: you can watch movies at Flixzone. Been using it for watching loads of movies lately.
@Dawson Matteo yup, have been using flixzone} for years myself :)
Mike and Team, thanks always for your reviews, helped me few years ago with getting my first low rider, and now graduated to a 2016 Road Glide. The 103 is still plenty of power for me and super well cared for! This review of 2017 helped a lot! You all keep taking great care out there! Fantastic review! I am 6'4" and this bike is the only new bike that doesn't hit my knees on a full turn.
Hello Matt, I live in Northeast Louisiana. I just picked up a 2017 Road Glide Ultra from someone near Houston. I absolutely love this bike! It is just like the one that you showcase in this video. Thank you for all the information and I look forward to many years of riding it.
Awesome man. Congrats on the bike. Now go hit the road. Enjoy.
Gary Bowen Thanks man. I appreciate it. Don't worry about trolls. That's just world of the internet.

Thank you for the comment. Yea, this bike is an awesome touring bike. I appreciate the input from an experienced owner. Thank you for posting.

Also...if anyone wonders...On the Street Glide, one can pack 72 cans of 12 ounces of beer. So, choose your bike wisely :)))
Thanks Matt. I did a test drive at Harley Davidson Benelux last Sunday. He is exactly the way you describe him. I love this motorcycle! In the Netherlands, this Road Glide Ultra costs 35000 euros. That's very expensive, so unfortunately I'll have to do it with my Electra Glide Standard from 2001
Great review. I just traded in my FLSTC for Road Glide Ultra. What a machine. Being 6'5" with a nice set of ape hangers, it is an awesome machine.
Thank you.
i've purchase items from your parts department via the phone, excellent service-! fantastic job at video production, you were speaking calmly and informatively. not yelling and very relaxed-
duke cafe Thanks man.
Here's your Minnesota boy telling you that you don't need heated handgrips. I was riding on Monday in the freezing rain and snow. 28 degrees. No heated handgrips here.
Haha. Thank you for the comment that I knew was coming. I like it when a hard core rider speaks up.
Stop trying to be tough .Heated grips equal comfort which equals control of your bike during those long cold rides .Face it your to cheap to get them.
I have heated grips and mustang heated seat, worth every penny guys...
Excellent review. I was looking at a 2016 and 2017 and went with the 17. Absolutely LOVE IT!!!!

You can't judge a book by its cover 👍🏻
Tell me about it.
A very thorough and fair review. Great job Matt.
I don't envy you with the L.A. traffic just the good riding weather , good review
Yea traffic sucks. There are plenty of places to get out of town around here though
Great review as always. Good tip on the "i" button. Mine's a 17 RGS so really interested on how the Ultra compared (haven't seen one in NZ yet). would really like a review of the heritage, im really close to pulling the trigger and would like your take
Clear, concise review as always Matt. Thank you again for your great reviews.
Best review there is. Thanks for the great work
Thank you.

hogdriver88 with just changing tires alone and not suspension it won't make a very big difference.
do you think a 6' guy would need or want to change the seat and or handle bars to avoid too close feeling?
My hd dealer installed heated handgrips $400. Out the door on my road king, worth it!
Matt i bought the Road Glide fltru 2016. Is the bike i bought a ultra limited. What's the difference on the newer year models other than the Milwaukee 8
could u please do a 48 review soon
Varun Govind I'm waiting on that review as well ahahahaha love the bike but there really aren't any good reviews on TH-cam like Matt would do ...seriously though

hi it me again. I love your helmet. where did you get it
Good review Matt! I do have a question though...Are the handlebars a "mini" ape hanger style? I ask cause they look the part.

Mr MegaTruong Yes. It works with gloves on. Good question.
Hey matt...just picked up a '17 roadglide ultra, my question is once my phone is paired with the bike, and then I add or make changes to my phone contact list, will the bike automatically make the changes in the bikes system or do I have to do something to update the changes in the bike?...thanks for the info.
hognut58 you have to re-sync the contacts with the bike. Click on the download phone contacts or whatever again. Congrats on the bike!
How do you fit on a street glide being 6’6 I mean I’m 6’3 and sat on a street glide and it felt tight even with the tall boy seat on it what mods did you do thanks
sorry to bug brotherman but still waiting on the 48 review
THEBIGBADWOLF okay I'll try to do one on the 48
Matt Laidlaw I really would appreciate it...the reason I'm asking you is because all other reviews on here aren't as good ...and I do appreciate how you go about your reviews... best on TH-cam brother
I'd like comments from Matt and any owners regarding passenger wind exposure on the RGU vs. the Limited.
David Hunter good question. I really don't know. I've never ridden back there. Maybe someone else can comment with an answer.
Thx matt excellent video
can you compare wind buffeting between the batwing and shark nose
Hct80 depends on your height but I think they are very comparable. Open all the vents and neither one has much buffeting.
HAHA! Guy from Minnesota. Great review my friend, always enjoy your videos.
Awesome review
Great video Matt,.. If ya can, what helmet(make style) is that in the video? Thanks again. Watched a lot of your videos and they are always spot on! Thanks
Simpson Outlaw Bandit
Thanks Matt. Looking forward to more great reviews.
That looks like a machine that Old Dirty Biker would love! Don't we see him anymore because he's touring with the power rangers?
Really enjoy your videos and content. I was told by a dealer here in northern California that Harley is not releasing a 2018 Low Rider S. Have you heard anything about this?
Thank you. I can't really comment on my speculation about future model availability.
Any information on the 2018 bikes or do those come out in november?
August 22nd they are announced.
Excellent review dude !
Thorson Runes Thanks for the comment. Yea, I've had issues with several GPS's but my cars and phone GPS does better than this one.
Thorson Runes I use ware on my phone. It works well since there is a lot of user input for wrecks, police, closed roads, etc. some days it takes me crazy ways to work but I always make it with in a 5 minute window of what it says.
video and voice nice..specially easy to listen your voice for viewers...!
Can u advise for me How do u do??
How about a softail deluxe review!!!
I'll try to get to it.
Good winter gauntlet gloves are much cheaper then heated handgrips, my buddy pointed that out called me a dumbass. Gd he's right...
Is the gas cap lockable?
what if I want to use my Sena?
Chevy Volt, Matt?!?!?
I was wondering if someone would give me crap for that. Yes, I own a chevy volt. So embarrassing. I drive 120 + miles a day. It's a necessary vehicle for me.
Matt Laidlaw - no crap at all. I knew a bike was your main transport from your videos, and figured you would have a truck or something otherwise. The volt probably gets you HOV access anyway.
Marty 'Mork' Neilan That's exactly right. I got it for the car pool lane. I'm actually going to buy a new bike soon. I don't have a bike right now.
That car makes sense when you live in a state where gas cost as much as $4.00 per gallon .
Very good info. A lot better when you're not doing satire. What is the midel number of yourr helmet? That is cool. I think I might like to get me one like it.
Another great review. Thanks!
Awesome video.
is this the one the police use?
No, The police use a FLHTP. Its a Electra Glide Standard Variation. Looks kinda like a Street Glide
I'm in love with this bicke i wish. You live N ca
40°? That's springtime in Illinois. Lol.
Sorry. Had to. 😁
HD should of giving this bike the 114cu motor
Road glide is best choice imo to...
So tired of the Road glide reviews..every body in California..has a review of this bike...did harley stop making the other models...scheeze...give it up people..we need other reviews of other bike too....wtf
.I have a Ultra Classic..it is a good bike too.
Matt..am not picking on you..you are always great on your video 's..am picking on the other 999 million..lol..who are wanta.
Be's...
My next hd
Although my 1998 Road Glide wasn't originally configured as a "Road Glide Ultra" (wasnt until 2009) the original owner turned my bike turned into one. I personally don't like it with the 60lb added up high weight and only use it for touring purposes in this configuration and remove the King Tour pack afterwards.

👌👍
The Rushmore project should have been doing in the late 90s
Harley is ridiculous for waiting till 2014
The Goldwing has everything the rushmore project was back like 20 years ago
I dont know why they wait so long to do smart redesigns
A rushmore bike is what the metrics did almost 20 years ago
Why are you here? I don't waste my time talking shit on a GoldWing channel.
“Hey, what’s up, guys?”-there must be some other way to start a bike video.
What do you mean?
Matt Laidlaw Have you ever considered the possibility that women ride and buy motorcycles? They feature prominently in HD advertising.
Homerun hd!
Have you seen any companies out there ,willing to go against the Milwaukee 8 ?
Great review
