  • In this video I show how to adjust BMX brakes and explain the various reasons as to why BMX brakes might need adjusted.
    I cover everything from straddle cable setups such as a straight cable or single to double lower gyro cable, all the way to dual lower gyro cables which require a different approach.
    The tools that appear in this video are Park Tool tools, the best bicycle tools in bicycle history!
    Thank you for choosing to spend your time watching one of my videos!

    ive been trying to adjust by brakes the brake pads are not at the same distance then when they are they dont touch the rim at the same time and it’s bothering me
    Edit: Idk which one i have to loosen up or witch one i have to tighten, do i tighten the one that is closer to the rim and loose the one that is farther or loose the closer one and tighten the farther one or do i tighen the closer one and leave the other alone and vise versa? ive been at it for an hour and i cant get it, it breaks but it takes a while to stop when you’re on the bike

    hey, what do i do when my brake arm is rubbing on my tire? i just bought new tires but the brake arms are stopping the rear tire from spinning and i don’t want to go brakeless

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brake arm rubbing the tire usually means that you need to get the arm closer to the rim in the pad area. This will pull the rest of the arm away from the tire. To do that you may need to adjust the spacers between the brake pad and the brake arm. This is why there are two different sized ones there. So you'll want the thinner one on the inside. That will let your brake arm move closer to the rim and pull it away from the tire. Then you'd need to adjust your cables because only changing the spacer will mean you have to pull the lever much further to get pad contact on the rim.
      If your brake pads already have the skinny spacer on the inside, you may have to figure out a way to have an even smaller spacer there.
      Hopefully this helps. Im going to make a video about it sometime soon. Thanks for asking the question and giving me the idea!

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If there are no springs there’s really no way to adjust them

  • @randallhorton8988
    @randallhorton8988 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    But how to remove the slack from the upper brake cable like you said to do before anything with the lower brakes?

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re using gyro cables you can adjust the barrel adjusters to remove the slack. The uppers should not be affected by the lowers since you want the gyro to sit as close to the gyro tabs as possible.
      This is partially why I made my own upper cables. Most off the shelf ones have so much slack that needs adjusted out with the barrel adjusters. Making my own and using a gyro with screws means minimal slack from the beginning

    One question why does my brake pads bot retern after i pull the brake

    • @Brant_Moore
      @Brant_Moore  5 ปีที่แล้ว
