Dude you wouldn't know how helpful you were. I am this introverted kid with a toxic parent who is too nervous to ask others for help because almost all of my friends are experts in stuff like this and that makes me insecure. This is the best thing I've ever came across ❤️❤️
Awesome video bro, the bike shop guy asked me 60 dollars for fixing my brakes ..cost of my bike is 55 dollars.....after watching ur video was able to fix the brakes myself ...thank you 🎉
I'm a single mom to a 12 year old boy and together we fixed his rear tire. Never had done this before in my life. The brake kept getting stuck and this was so helpful ❤
For my bike, the spring had come undone, and the cable housing was out of the barrel! I would never have spotted these two issues without the help of this video. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
This guy deserves more subs guys, thank you you helped me with the springs because for some reason my friend took my brakes off and i didnt know what to do. Thanks!!
I bought a bunch of bikes at a police auction and was unfamiliar with how to fix some of these problems. Thanks so much for this video. I have looked and looked on youtube and found nothing until this popped up. This answers about 85% of my questions. I will be saving this video for sure. Thanks again!!
The first video on V-Brakes that really helped me. Had constant problems with dragging brakes. This video also explains the background and how the brakes work, while other videos do not go into it at all. If you now really understood what happens when you turn a screw, it is suddenly very simple. Everything now works perfectly again. Thank you very much, and many greetings from Germany.👍
If the cable housing keeps coming loose from the ferrule, you might have a problem with cable friction or the brake return spring. Something is keeping the brake from pulling the cable back taught after the lever is released.
Extremely helpful, thank you! This went to the next level of depth that other videos do not, and I was able to solve a spring asymmetrical tension problem
You are amazing. Thank you so much for being clear and to the point! I was able to fix my 9 year old son's bike and teach him to take care of his bike too!
Awesome Video bro. I rarely ever leave comments on videos but I had to leave one on yours ha ha. First off, thank you for getting right to the point and NOT explaining your whole life story. 2nd, thank you so much for explaining the most common problems/fixes with the braking system. This is the first video that actually helped me with the problems I have been dealing with forever. You need to do a presentation on how to properly post a video on TH-cam to these other knuckleheads who waste our time and don’t thoroughly explain what to do. IN Conclusion, Bravo to you.!! Awesome job on your video !!! Two thumbs up!!!
Thanks for this, it gave me the confidence to adjust my 4 year old twins new bikes. The brake levers were so far from the handlebars they can barely reach them, let alone actually brake with them. I've now brought the levers in, reduced the spring tension, and lengthened the brake cables to compensate. Usually you want to tighten brakes :)
Thank you for this video, I reassembled my bike after moving to another country but when I was done the brakes were stuck. Thanks to your video I was able to fix the brakes.
Thank you sir for teaching me how to adjust the brakes on my mountain bike. You are very helpful. You got to the point right away. Again thank you very much sir 🙏
my front breaks don't open back and the cable gets out of the barrel adjuster, i tried everything to fix it but nothing works ,can you give me some tips to fix it?
In my case one side of the brakes dragged the rim so I went for the spring tension screw adjustment. Later I found out it didn't do anything because the tip of the spring inside the brake was bent out so the screw just slipped away. I took apart of the brake then bent the tip of the spring inward so it can engage with the screw. Now I'm very happy to fix this annoying problem!
Excellent presentation. Not only was I able to balance both sides of the V brake with the instructions here but, by applying the general principles amply demonstrated in this succinct video, I was able to fix my kite, toilet paper roll (it got loose, sorta) and small nuclear reactor in my basement. THANKS!
I've got a new bike and one arm of the v brake really stick. it sticks next to the wheel and then once you move it sticks away from the wheel. I adjusted spring tension using the little screw and it does nothing. Any ideas what it could be
Hey the video is super helpful but all this things are working to me but the pads don't have enough power to stop the wheel is there any chance you know why?
Why would the tensioning screws not work? Mine rubs on one side and one side doesn't move much. But no matter how much I adjust the tensioning screws it really has no effect.
The best video, can be a bit slower and just a couple of better angle ( spring part and cable screw adjustment. This video could be broken in to two if it was a slower follow along . Yet this Is The Best Video I have seen! And I have watched and search a lot.👍💯
The brake studs may need cleaning and lubrication. The brake pads may be worn unevenly, and getting wedged into the rim. Otherwise, it's a cable friction issue. Diagnosing the brake function with the cable detached is a good way to isolate the variables.
Great instructional video but it didn't address my issue unfortunately. I have a similar brake setup my bucycle and I have replaced the break cable and the brake shoes or pads and no matter what and how many adjustments I make my rear brakes don't bite down and stop the wheel when I'm on it. I barely touch the front breaks and utll throw me over the handles. I haven't found any videos addressing this issue. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
So what causes a barrel adjuster not to tighten? Happens all the time on my bikes. Even changed one and same thing. Then my brake wire pops out when I'm biking.
@@gregreeves4884 Yes, brought it to professional bike service :) They told me that there were some issues that required changing the break string and something else, don't remember anymore.
Can you please explain to me how the cable stays in the break? I seat the brake cable in the lock, and tighten it and then it just pulls right out. I've replaced the brake lock and tried a different one and same problem....
This is usually due to worn pads. Improper pad alignment can cause uneven wear of the pads, causing the tops to wear before the bottoms. When this happens, the pad becomes wedge shaped and slides down below the rim when you engage the brake. Pad replacement and proper alignment is the solution. The hack fix is to realign the worn pads so that the far bottom of the pad strikes the rim more perpendicularly.

I bought a Shwinn from Amazon and noticed the brake return springs on the front weren't set right since one side was dragging on the wheel. I'll adjust the brakes tomorrow. This video helped confirm the simplicity of the adjustment. Thank you!
hey i need help i have an escooter, before winter hit in canada here i washed up my scooter in my standup shower, but now the breaks are STUCK cant press the handel in.. its a disk break i dont know anything about breaks, but i think the break cable is coroted in the sleeve part. should i just take my scooter to a bike shop and let them look at it?
My pads may be worn unevenly, i tightened the cable , adjusted the screw , got them both to engage and as close as possible to the rim without rubbing it when brakes not applied but when i pull the brake handle i just don't have enough braking power, no metter how hard i press i can't lock up the wheel while riding it, i have to pull very hard both front and rear to get a somewhat decent braking
My problem isn't the spring at least I don't think so. When I use the front brake the pad rubs against the tire I have to manually pull it away from the tire what could that be?
I'm still having issues with the front brake tube popping out of the barrel adjuster. It's a disk break no matter much I tighten it still falls out . All the other bikes I had no issues with. This bike is actually for my mother. I am trying to teach her how to ride a bike.
So on my bike the rear V-brake is weird, when i turn to the right it brakes and when i turn left is doesnt but the brakes only work when i turn right and i still cannot seem to find the problem
I did all adjustments you recommended but brake lever when squeezed goes all the way to handle bar. The other side stops about an inch before reaching handle bar. How do I adjust that?

This is a fantastic video, thank you for being so clear
I can't get my noodle to sit in the retention bracket slot.
There is not enough give in the noodle to engage.
Please advise?
This dude and this video are the most helpful video I've ever seen

What do you think causes a slow or weak release? Brake spring in highest tension and cable is free
The brake studs may need cleaning and lubrication. The brake pads may be worn unevenly, and getting wedged into the rim.
Otherwise, it's a cable friction issue.
Diagnosing the brake function with the cable detached is a good way to isolate the variables.
The spring tensio. Was what i needed, i was putting on new brake pads when the spring half popped off, and then they wouldnt work, tysm

Do disk brakes need less or more maintenance than V brakes? Are adjustments on disk brakes just as "easy" as V brakes? Thanks

Hey do you have a solution for on of the rubbers stoping the wheel going under the rim?
This is usually due to worn pads. Improper pad alignment can cause uneven wear of the pads, causing the tops to wear before the bottoms. When this happens, the pad becomes wedge shaped and slides down below the rim when you engage the brake. Pad replacement and proper alignment is the solution.
The hack fix is to realign the worn pads so that the far bottom of the pad strikes the rim more perpendicularly.

Bike shop is the best place to take it. I no longer like disc brakes gone back to v brakes much easier to fix
hi, my cable of the v-brake falls of from the place. how to adjust?
Everything looks good for me from this video.. BUT my brake pad won’t return from the wheel.. Any suggestions?
Great video! Thanks

Thank you, now I'm going to go fix my bike brakes.
dude thank you my spring tension was loose so it wasnt springing back
Excellent, excellent, excellent!
Was just given a bike with problem with front brake. Now I know the noodle was not in the clip. Thank you.
Have same issue did you find a solution?
Super useful. Thanks a lot!

My problem isn't the spring at least I don't think so. When I use the front brake the pad rubs against the tire I have to manually pull it away from the tire what could that be?
Thanks for the tip your awesome 😊

how do I connect a rear brake on my 3 wheeler i have instruction book but cant follow ite
