Fixing the water leak in the civic - a step by step guide

  • Taking after the FD RX-7, the civic also sprung a water leak.
    This has become a common problem on the aging EK chassis where the seam sealer hardens, cracks and leaks water into the cabin. It really is a simple fix after gaining access to the seam.

    Nicely done! I've had the carpet out of my '00 EM1 Civic for 2 years dealing with this...really take away from enjoying your car and I may be selling so hoping to fix this soon. Same thing after heavy rain...really pools up only mine is Canadian so drivers side. Only difference I can stand there spraying all the same areas you did for 10mins and not a drop....after a heavy rain, totally soaked. I suppose I'll have to dig a little deeper to see that corner but I guess I wouldn't have to remove the blower assembly would I. I just threw baby powder up in that area and I'm waiting to trace the trickle to the source but not enough rain yet lol.

I will have to reasemble more stuff before I see the leak. Visually. But. Because it is winter here. It is not possible. To work outside at 0 temp. But i have to. Go from time to time. I believe that I have this issue as well with my Civic as it's been a continuous thing for years. I already changed my gasket and cleaned out the gunk yet the rather slow leak continues. I think I can do most of it but my main issue is degassing the AC as I have no clue what I'm doing there and worried about dealing with the refrigerant. How did you do it and is it difficult to do?

    • @JCYT
      @JCYT  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The best way to deal with refrigerant is to take it to a local mechanic or autoelec who does AC and get them to drain the system. I had two cars needing it done so I had a mobile technician come out to me. Then once you've got it all sorted they can regas your AC

      @JCYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi mate
      It's definitely worth doing and i know of two other people who have since fixed water leaking into the cabin on these civics.
      I believe it's quite universal across all 90s honda platforms and of course the age of the car.
      If it helps, the blower isn't as fragile as you think. Held in by screws only, no clips or adhesive used.
      I've parked it outside for about 3 months now and have not had any water in the cabin. Good luck!

    • @JCYT
      @JCYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey mate
      I'm kicking myself i didn't record that part. The reality is these clips are fragile yet i managed to save all but 1. I had 2 tiny flat head screw drivers i used like chopsticks to pry/leverage it out. Take your time prying them side by side until you can fit both screw drivers in the gaps. When you can fit both screw drivers, gently pincer the grommet and pull upwards. It should pop out with a moderate amount of force. Good luck mate if you get stuck msg me on insta and i'll send you a video of me doing it.
