How to fix a wet driver side floorboard

  • This is a simple cheap fix if you are getting water into the cabin that makes the floormats wet, keep in mind that this isn't always the reason, you might have a heater core leak or the weather seal on the windshield isn't tucked in well.

    If this doesn’t not fix the issue and it happens when it rains, then it might be a failing body seam.

    I’m a little confused. How does the plug leaking push water up? You’d think it would drain it. I feel like that not really the issue and the water is coming in from the door or windshield drain.

  • @MoeLarrycurly1

    I don't know if you're the original owner but it looks like somebody drilled a hole in the center of that because they have a leak maybe from the window or the door seal or someplace else it just happens to be pooling down there at the lowest point which is where the drain would be. I have a 2003 and I have the same problem now mine is more Rusty down there cuz it's been happening for many years. I just bought the car for a couple hundred bucks because of other problems which I was able to fix motor related.
    I pulled out my carpet unfortunately it's the middle of winter but I put a rubber mat in it for now and when it does start to rain I'm going to see if I can find where it's coming in. My plug does not have a little hole in the center like that one. I couldn't find anything wet under the rubber or material which is farther up the firewall so it's a wait and see
    Did the double piece of flex tape work in your instance

    Could this line been damaged during a airbag repair? There is a tape over my line where the water leaks from. The recall was required and the only time anyone has been in that area. So I’m concerned if there is tape causing it to leak on both sides mostly the passenger but it will come out the drivers when making a turn and the car is up to temperature on a freeway for example. It’s a 2013. It was cold during the repair. Seems like it started after that.

    • @randomfixes
      @randomfixes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had an airbag repair at the dealer and they never mentioned anything about it even though I took it there before fixing this leak, the airbags are away from the floorboards too, there's a possibility that your heater core or its lines are leaking as one of the airbags is close to it (right it's behind the dash) and maybe it was damaged during the repair? if your cabin smells kinda sweet and it's cold that's probably a heatercore issue.

    Its a factory drain plug when they dip the body of the car in liquids to protect it from rust. So then they instead of welding it up stick in a drain plug a rubber drain plug. But yours was apparently in wrong it's suppose to be inside the car and not outside the car. So all you have to do is plug it in from the inside and then plastic seal it.

    • @randomfixes
      @randomfixes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Water leaks can be due to a damaged weather seal, misaligned panel or just like in this video a damaged/mis-seated panel plug, sometimes a leak can happen because of a bad heatercore but that’s mostly on the passenger front side.

      I'm chasing one in my 2003 Corolla I have no small little hole just a regular plug that in case the car gets flooded that's what you pop out and let the water drain out so I'm suspecting mine is windshield seal the door seal looks good but soon as winter breaks I'm going to keep an eye on things I pull the carpet out I may have to put some water down in the cowling area and then work my way up to the windshield to see if I see it appear on the floor

    So water is supposed to go through the surface underneath the plug and drain out of the car, but since there's a hole in the plug (btw ?!?!?! how did that hole even get there?) the water comes up through the hole and floods the floor...
