    It took 3 years for me to run 13 miles, i try to remember that when I feel down about how long it takes me to complete it. It could be another 3 years before I do it faster lol i just started being able to do it. 😊

      I always go back to the time where I just started running and ran my first mile without stopping. Or when I used to think 4 miles was an endlessly long run. I just did my 3rd half and am training for my fist marathon. It'll probably take me a couple years to get accustomed to the distance and I'm sure there will be loads of walking as well. I'll get better ever so slowly

    One of the best advice videos I've seen in quite some time. Nothing new, just great reminders. Good humor throughout as well. Props on the new world record 🤣

    Regarding injuries: My friend complained about me getting injured repeatedly in disc golf and always coming back throwing farther. Multiple things cobtributed to this: Rehab, studying technique farther, resting to be at 100 %, which disc golfers are only at season start. You decide how you come out of an injury as long as your injuries are recoverable.

    Saw your group video on today’s team marathon on Strava. Congratulations to you and Mary on your second place finish. 🎉

    Great video! Loved it :) one thing I wanted to say: Mary said in one of the videos I watched that she doesn’t like to see herself running - I absolutely love it, Mary, it looks so effortless ❤ You both are so inspiring 💪 Thank you for the great content, helps me so much in my running journey

    1. Take Mary's time. 2. It's pretty fast. I was at the track one night when a few young kids came with their girls. They looked fit (not overweight- normal kids). They sprinted a couple of times for the girls. I clocked them at 16 something. It felt good that I was probably within one second of their time despite being mit 50s, new to running and hadn't done any real anaerobic workout.

    1:30 I'd add that improvements aren't always linear.

    Jamaican and African sprinters train endurance running before they start sprinting ..unlike most American sprinters that work on different phases of the sprint...Bolt started out as a miler but quickly found out his talent was in shorter races.despite his desire to be a miler...I honestly believe that longer distance running equates to the sprints because you have more endurance to carry you through the race and knowledge of pace and you can work on the phases of the race later...some of the best 200 meter runners become the best 100 meter sprinters . endurance is an important ability.., especially when you have multiple heats and many false starts ..when this happens many sprinters fall apart but those with endurance experience persevere.and have the best times

      Don't forget the PEDs that sprinters use. It's naive to think all sprinters are pure, innocent and honest with the highest integrity.

    Interesting video Ben. Just an observation on your squats - the foam accessory is for hip thrusts. For squats you need to bed the bar itself properly across your scapulas for high bar squat. The foam makes it difficult to do that.

    Great video!! I've been running for years, but I'm still confused by the concept of peaking. I get that it's that peak of fitness you want for a race, but how do you actually know you're there, what does it look/ feel like, and how do you time it for a race?

    • @PatrickWoerner
      @PatrickWoerner 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Basically if you have a given time for a race you can just train until that. But if you want to have maximal adaptations, you have to incorporate racepace more and more into your sessions. As this is really fatiguing, but provides big improvements, you should be tapering. But it's individual to each athlete, how long he needs. Light exercise during tapering and shorter racepace stuff is advised to not let the body fall into "ah I don't need that speed anymore"-mode. But with that freshness that you will have on raceday, you ideally are able to endure the pace for the whole race.

    Ben started upright, no biggie just start the clock late and finish early: WR. 😅 Now finish 4 seconds off the Marathon WR 😂

    Do other things to strengthen. Weights suck! 😂 Stand Up Paddle Boarding works your whole body and is fun!!!

    • @rodrigoluizdesouza789
      @rodrigoluizdesouza789 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      For me it's gym rings. They are versatile, relatively cheap, and I can carry them with me wherever I go.
      I think the best way to not miss strength and conditioning is finding an activity you enjoy doing. It could be stand up paddle, rings, weights or whatever else will keep you ticking.

    • @mslice09
      @mslice09 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If your competitive ..weight training will increase muscular strength which helps with endurance and shaving time down on races , especially specialized training for runners..there are also exercises with bands and treadmill speed training.
